WHO AM I?
I am Jamie, a London Taxi Driver (black Cab) with over 33 years experience plying my trade on the streets of London.
WHY DO I MAKE THESE VIDEOS?
Because I am passionate about what I do and the fantastic City that I operate in, from it's history, geography, great places to eat or grab a quick coffee. And to preserve and promote our trade that has been around since 1654.

And there's me thinking taxis just pulled up to the front door, picked up a fare and took them away! There is a serious amount of queueing and waiting involved before you earn any money. I thought you would inevitably collect a tourist and deliver him to Birmingham for £500.

I used to work the airport. The boredom killed me. So I went back to town. It's the same old shite but my brain stays active.... good short film mate.

Brilliant mate , was up early even though it’s a bank holiday and came across this video and thought this maybe interesting. Honestly it was superb and certainly an eye op et into what goes on at Heathrow as I had no idea it was like this . I’m only in Watford up the road . Cheers fella. Ps I enjoy people do videos on there own and this content is something I love especially where your going 👍

How do new cabbies learn how to access the feeder park and navigate the feeder park?
New drivers normally learn the system from more experienced drivers, when I first worked the airport I found older drivers were always willing to give advice and educate those who were new to the airport

Thanks Jamie, a very insightful video. How does Heathrow ensure unscrupulous cab drivers don't bypass the feeder park and go straight to the terminal? Looks like its based on an honour type system..
It works on an electric tag system so if you haven’t gone through the system it will be flagged up on the rank to the agents there. It is extremely difficult to circumnavigate the system.

@@JamieTheCabby I wouldn't mix cabbie life with Van life it's too different viewership, that's a separate channel which opens up a new audience. UA-cam wants repetitive content you just put your style to it
Great video. Next time please could you explain how the actual system (and timings) of queuing and moving to the terminals works in a bit more detail.

I used to do private hire from Cambridge to most of the airports. I really enjoyed the work and the pay was excellent. I'm not sure I could deal with the faff of what you do😂
I don’t work Heathrow every day, I like to vary things, I do a lot of tours and sitting at Heathrow gives me the chance to read and review places for tours 👍🏻

What happens if you get another local after coming back from one?
Good question, you get another hour to go straight back on the terminals, there is no limit to the number of local jobs you can do

As a ex merchant seafarer used to open water this gives me a feeling of crushing and anxiety.How you can do this everyday is beyond me,you must surely have to switch off because it looks so mindless and tragic.
How long did you have to wait in each feeder park?

Can be quite a long queue and on some occasions a long wait, it does vary though
Any chace you putting your seat belt on?
We are exempt from wearing a seatbelt when working 👍🏻

London Taxi drivers are exempt from wearing a seatbelt when working 👍🏻

I live in Datchet and flew back to T5 with BA, i went to get a Taxi and they wanted over £30 for a couple of miles of ride. i got a Uber in the end for less than half price.

Not a chance the meter is about £4 per mile plus the flag fall and your looking at about £12. I smell bull 💩

@@jeremyc9136 I believe Datchet would fall outside the Met area and so the price, if the cabby wanted to accept the journey, wouldn't be on the meter and would be negoatiable prior to leaving the rank.
Bond St to Canary Wharf cost 50 pounds in a black cab. Didn’t use the train because of illness. But it seems very expensive for a 7 mile ride about 45 mins
does it really cost you £10 to work hetahrow, and then if you dont return within the hour, another £10?
After the pandemic the cost was £7.20 to go through the system, that was reduced last year to £3.60 and reduced again to £3.00 this year.
Heathrow stated they needed to recoup some of their loses through the pandemic.
Not much info like how long you did in the north feeder and how long you did in the south feeder

Any charging bays for electric cabs at the holding parks?
There are some in the North Feeder Park
Good video, but the transitions between jobs needs to be shorter or quicker or add some narration as well as possibly the fair costs and times would be interesting to know and how long you spend waiting in the feeder.
No hate just constructive criticism which I think will help you improve your channel.

You are timed by the tag system that is used for Taxis working Heathrow, the rank agent adds an hour to your id and the system times you

Taxi drivers are exempt when working as we are in and out of the taxi all the time

Live Windsor black cabs won’t use meter which is against Hackney carriage rules. I report every time. Call local Windsor cab 1/2 price of rip off black cabs
