Thanks for hitting up my request. Anneke and The Gathering were almost single-handedly responsible for originating the Dutch female-fronted metal sound. As someone said earlier, she inspired Floor Jansen (Nightwish) to become a metal vocalist, but she also inspired countless other female vocalist in the area. The Gathering were always more interested in pushing boundaries than fame, though. So, pretty much as soon as they established the Dutch female-fronted metal foundation, they abandoned it for more experimental sounds -- which didn't help their mainstream popularity, obviously. The other thing is that Anneke eventually left to persure her own music, but she is a sought-after guest vocalist across multiple genres.
For Dutch female fronted bands...Anneke is the grandmother of All.. She was here in 1993 aswell, and inspired Floor Jansen ( After Forever, Re-Vamp, Nightwish) Sharon den Adel ( Within Temptation) Simone Simons ( Epica) Anneke started in a jazz duo before she joined The Gathering and no one knew what a bomb did explode..

This song and Anneke are Floor's inspiration to go into metal. Anneke is considered the Godmother of Dutch Metal.
When she went solo she did also a lot of collaborations with amongst other Devin Townsend, Kevin Cavanagh, Amorphis, Ayreon, Within Temptation, Aristioir and others.
She is a regular for Ayreon and participated last september 2023 in Tilburg at Beneath the Waves 10010101.
The song that everyone from The Gathering should listen to is called Travel from the concert TG25: Live at Doornroosje. This is also the song that all React channels take. Here you can see how brilliant the singer is

Anneke van Geirsbergen has one of the best voices of the last 30 years - still performing today with solo sold out concerts and singing with both Floor and Marko on different occasions - definitely worth watching some more of her work !
The crowd is typical 90s in Europe. Pentecost is called Pinksteren in Dutch, and the band also comes from the Netherlands. This is the time the festival originally took place and hence the name.
For me, the accompanying album is the best Album the band has done. In the Netherlands the band was even more successful with the following album, but then the chart positions began to decline. When lead singer Anneke van Giersbergen left the band, the band disappeared from the charts to this day. Anneke was able to stay solo in the Dutch charts. Here she is with Floor Jansen:

The Gathering did a 20 yr. celebration concert and one of my favorites from it is "Travel", a song she wrote as a tribute to Beethoven.
Another favorite is a duet she did with Sharon of Within Temptation titled "Somewhere". It is one of the sweetest and most beautiful duets of all time, in my opinion.
Another one is "Valley of the Queens". Floor Jansen was with her.

Anneke van Giersbergen fronted this Dutch Metal band in the 90s. She is a wonderfully talented singer and guitarist and performs a wonderful version of Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill.
I remember watching this gig with my boyfriend (now husband) and thinking what would I give to have Annekes beautiful copper, curly hair. Many years later we had a daughter and she had long curly copper hair as a newborn. It never fell of, and she still has it, now 13 years old. 😊
Anneke was such an angel, back then. She grew up to a serious music so quickly.😢
‘Talented little band’. The Gathering is the trend setting band for female fronted symfonic metal. Their album mandylion is an absolute metal classic.

Got all albums from these fellow Dutch countrymen....early start until recent. Very diverse and I like all incarnations/routes they went and they expanded/changed their horizon a couple of times throughout the years.
Another great Dutch band is Epica....do the live version of 'The phantom agony' (live on 2 meter sessions).
In addition to the collaborations mentioned in other comments, Anneke van Giersbergen also sings on a project called "The Gentle Storm," put out an album with her progressive metal band "VUUR," and has solo stuff under her own name as well as Agua de Annique. She is an amazing singer and a lovely person!

Anneke is such an increadible singer!! You guys should hear ayreon "valley of the queens", and lot other songs too. Other one is "garden of emotions" by Ayreon, she sings beautifully in the live version
Another great one (and much softer song) of Anneke is Jest Oldu on ´Beste Zangers´ (Best Singers) where Dutch singers perform songs for and of each other. In this song she sings part English/part Turkish. I met her once, she’s such a great soul.

This does nothing toward giving the depth of Anneke Van Giersbergen's amazing abilities vocally, although I do love this song. You should check out her several performances on Beste Zangers 2021, a Dutch TV show for and about Dutch Singers singing each other songs and songs that are important to them. They are all available on UA-cam and they give you a better idea of her wonderful and amazing diversity of vocal skills. She's like a mentor to all of the Dutch women who front metal bands, especially Symphonic Metal Bands. Anneke has an extensive catalog with bands as well as a solo artist. Formed in the Netherlands in 1989, The Gathering were originally a doom metal band that was heavily influenced by the dark, gothic metal of Paradise Lost... the core of The Gathering are still brothers Hans Rutten (drums), Rene Rutten (guitar)... w/ Hugo Prinsen Geerligs (bass) and Frank Boeijen (keyboards) ... (Guitarist Jelmer Wiersma was an original member... left The Gathering in 1998) ...The Gathering released 2 albums w/ different vocalists - 'Always' (1992)... and 'Almost a dance' (1993)... and got some fanfare...
It was the addition of female vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen that took The Gathering to fame in Europe w/ the 1995 album 'Mandylion'... 130K copies sold in Europe... This performance was filmed at a festival in '96 on that tour, but The Gathering hated the footage and opposed releasing it on a live DVD 'In motion' in 2001.
'Nighttime birds' was released in 1997 and The Gathering toured successfully in Europe... the band experimented w/ Pink Floyd, Radiohead and psychedelic influences on their 1998 double CD 'How to measure a planet'... it became 1 of their biggest albums worldwide.
The Gathering established a psychedelic sound away from heavy metal on their next records - "if_then_else" (2000)... 'Souvenirs' (2003)... and 'Home' (2006)... A 2004 semi -acoustic live album 'Sleepy buildings' was also released followed by a 2005 semi-acoustic live DVD 'A Sound relief'... and a heavier live set in 2007 as the DVD 'A Noise Severe'...
In 2007, singer Anneke van Giersbergen announced that she was leaving The Gathering to focus on her family and solo projects.
In 2009, The Gathering announced new female singer Silje Wergeland from Norway was joining the band and on the album 'The West Pole'... their 10th album 'Disclosure' was released in 2012... After a hiatus in 2014, The Gathering recently released a new album 'Beautiful distortion' in 2022.

She did a song with Devin Townsend and on more since 2019's Empath.. he names her "The Tinkerbell of Metal"
just 21 years old here ;) and already a seasoned singer, she had been in a jazz improvision duo for a few years prior to her joining The Gathering. and everybody...everybody does say, when Anneke sings, she smiles, and she makes you smile, she can sing of death and destruction, but you still smile when she sings it.. incredible!!! She smiles when singing, she truly enjoys singing and telling the story, and the story is whatever is the song, and she smiles when doing it.
