According to Alan Parsons, it’s about the ubiquity of surveillance cameras (even more relevant now), along referring to the surveillance cameras in casinos, commonly referred to as the “Eye in the Sky”. The lyrics “I am the Eye in the Sky”/Looking at you/I can read your mind/The maker of rules/Dealing with fools/I can cheat you blind…” is the best description of a casino I’ve ever heard.

Alan Parsons also engineered for Procol Harum and Al Stewart. He's responsible for adding the saxophone part to Stewart's "Year Of The Cat".
The very first Alan Parsons Project album was "Tales of Mystery and Imagination", inspired by the works of Edgar Allen Poe. He also wrote and recorded the music for the movie "Ladyhawke", starring Rutger Hauer, Matthew Broderick, and (a then-unknown) Michelle Pfeiffer.
Parsons is still writing, recording, and performing, although he has some mobility issues...not surprising for a man his size and age. I saw him live just a couple of months ago. Look for a track from his (I believe) most recent album, a performance called "One Note Symphony".

Been a fan of Alan Parsons Project since 1976 when Tales Of Mystery And Imagination came out and honestly there is not a bad track in any of the first 10 albums. All of them are concept albums so they are all distinct from each other.
IIRC the Album Eye In The Sky was the first straight to digital recording which I think helps create that crispness. It was overly mixed and dubbed.
On a side note, back in 1982 when this was released, it wasn't rolled out everywhere at once. I was in Dallas Texas in June of 82 when I first heard it and when I got back home a day later, it was still a week or so before it was released in Oklahoma.

Alan Parsons (Audio Engineer) the individual. Not only mixing Dark Side of the Moon & Abbey Road, but five albums by the Hollies as well.
He had many studio musicians working with him (Alan Parsons “Project”) Games People Play” should be next. 👍🏻

A few years earlier, as a younger technician, he was sound engineer on the albums Abbey Road and Let It Be by a Liverpool band called the Beatles.

The very beggining alan parson sampled the beggining of Rushs xanadu guitar part to make the song eye in the sky. You can see the similar motif

The Alan Parsons Project isn't so much a band as it is a... I guess it' in the name. Parsons brings various musicians and vocalists to the Project to create his concepts. This makes for a very diverse catalog.
Parsons rarely sings other than backup vocals, but his keyboard work and engineering are phenomenal. My favorite APP vocalst has to be Lenny Zakatek who's featured on Games People Play and Wouldn't Want to Be Like You.

The intro is called 'Sirius' then that leads into 'The Eye In The Sky'. The SQ of APP music is through the roof.....Alan's production history is well documented, having worked with the Beatles and Pink Floyd.

One of my favorite songs when i was a kid. One of those songs that instantly transports you back to 80's. The bass player and guitarist on this song were in the band Pilot that a hit with the song It's Magic. Ian Bairnson the guitarist played the guitar solo on Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights too.

I flew across the country on a business trip from Vancouver to Toronto back in 1999 and was staying at the Inn on the Park hotel (since been torn down, but used to be owned by Four Seasons). I'd had a long delay and it's a long flight anyway and I was probably looking a bit ragged. I got to the hotel at around 8pm and there was only one person working the check-in line desk and there had to be 15-20 people in front of me, so I settled in for another wait. While I was standing there, I heard the guy talking to the check-in agent say "Mr. Parsons". Didn't click, but as I looked to my left. standing against a column was Alan Parsons...I was a passive fan but recognized him immediately. He looked at me at the same time and I think saw that I was pretty wiped after a long day. He went up to who I assume was his manager talking to the front desk agent and told him to let me go ahead. He never said a word to me and it's really just a simple blip in life, but I've remembered it and it was a generous thing for him to do. (If you ever react to Elvis Costello, I have a Elvis Costello & Diana Krall travel story as well).

Alan Parsons did work with the Beatles. You can see him in the concert the Beatles had on a rooftop. He was running power cords in an Orange suit.
If you react to Don't Awnser Me. See the viedo. That is pretty interesting.

I see a bunch of songs here people suggest. I think you might find Alan Parson's "The Gold Bug" pretty amazing and possibly familiar. Again, such dynamic and dramatic quality, even spiritual. The bass line and sax of this song is epic, the various effects, synth, chimes, chorus, all unique and special. Short and sweet. ...You might think of a haunting sound track for a Sergio Leone spaghetti western or a scene build-up for an old gunfight. Very dramatic. ...Love your analysis, you are both terrific.
