      @@nm-qt2hb The 3.0 doesn't burn oil nor does it use a lot of DEF fluid. GM put out a TSB a while ago with a redesigned valve cover that fixes the oil usage on the LM2. The original valve cover had a defective internal weld that the supplier and GM didn't detect. Once the new valve cover is installed, the oil consumption goes away completely. New LZ0 engines that have had oil catch cans fitted by owners show basically no engine oil being carried into the intake after being in place for 1000+ miles.
      Even if those catch cans showed a bit of oil, it's far less than the 1 quart every 1200 miles that Toyota's warranty states is normal oil consumption.

    Okay, the Bison is a great looking truck but for $63,000 to more than $66,000 depending on spec what do you really get over the base ZR2?
    Unlike the Raptor which gives you an engine you can't get in any other Ranger at least right now the Bison has the same engine that comes standard in the ZR2. Although a Chevy engineer at the Johnson Valley Chevy event did say the shocks were re-tuned for the added weight of the wheels and added accessories he also said the springs were the same as on the ZR2 which is why they used the Multimatic jounce control stops as secondary dampers. The Raptor at least has a unique suspension and the TRD Pro will as well. As pointed out in the video the Bison only has 1001 pounds of payload. This will be fine for ninety eight percent of buyers for any of these trucks as they are almost all going to do little more than pick up the occasional bag of mulch at Home Depot and drive it to the back yard flower bed. But for someone actually planning to off road and camp 1000 pounds is cutting it pretty thin. Not to mention there's a spare tire taking up part of the little bed space you have in these crew cab short beds.
    AEV also makes their own version of the Bison in which they re-gear to 4.10's for the larger and heavier BF Goodrich tires they put on it and they add tie rod stiffeners so you don't twist the stock ones up while trying to turn and climb at the same time. The Chevy version does not have upgraded tie rods and comes with the same 3.42 gears every other Colorado gets. In addition to this the actual AEV version comes with all the same things as the Chevy version and all for $11,999. Chevy's Bison package comes in at $11,700. So for just $299 more you get a stronger truck with better gearing. No word on the payload but seeing as they don't list doing much of anything with the rest of the truck I guess it would be roughly the same.
    The base ZR2 for right around 50K is the bargain off road midsize truck you want. The Ranger Raptor is actually the best overall performance value considering the unique engine for the price. People have no idea what they are talking about with the ZR2 and the Raptor being desert runners and not tough off roaders. Wheel travel, low end and slow speed control, lockers, overall clearances as well as armor make any truck a tough off roader. Watch any Australian Ranger Raptor video. It never takes a back seat to any brand in any situation. The Bison is a ZR2 with after market skids and a leveling kit. Literally. So why wouldn't the ZR2 equal the Bison? The Tacoma TRD Off Road is the best value Toyota off roader and will be more than enough for most people. But, Tim, seriously, stop with the resale and reliability thing with Toyota. We don't know if the Tacoma will be reliable. The new Tundra certainly hasn't been. Resale only matters if you get back an amount more than you would have paid for something else. After all, if I pay $49,000 for a TRD OFF Road and $45,000 for a Nissan PRO4-X and the Toyota brings $34,000 on trade two years later and the Nissan $30,000 then the Toyota's greater resale doesn't matter.

  • @Fadic4

    It’s sad seeing how high Toyota priced the current Tacoma.
    I think they even downgraded the underbody protection you get on the TRD Off Road now. The last generation got more metal underneath, the current one has more plastic shielding.
    I hope sales drop or are no where near what they expect and they’ll have to start incentivizing it a lot more.

    For the mid size trucks if they needed stay the same overall length, should they sacrifice more bed length and give that to rear leg room? 3-6" sacrifice, I wonder if that would be a tradeoff people would accept.

    I’ll stick with my 1st gen TRD-OffRoad double cab Tacoma. It’s way more capable Off Road than all three of those trucks especially with the upgraded aftermarket parts I added but I will admit they have my truck beat with mpg and street driving but I didn’t buy my truck for the streets that’s what my car is for.😂

    Not a mid size truck, however, not that Toyota just released this massive recall on the Tundra I have lost faith that any manufacturer builds reliable vehicles. And now, we gotta deal with these prices?? Smh

    • @karlschauff7989
      @karlschauff7989 5 місяців тому

      It was a terrible idea to make the Tundra and Tacoma share a platform. Too many compromises to make it work. The 3rd gen Tundra's bed is tiny compared to the 2nd gen and the Tacoma grew in size but feels cramped in the back seat and the factory ground clearance/approach angles don't look great compared to the 3rd gen Taco.

  • @kx8960
    @kx8960 5 місяців тому

    I think the best bang for the buck is get a "regular" ZR2 (like my loaded w/moonroof 2024) and put 285/75/17's (34's) on it so the spare fits under the bed, and if that's not enough, get maybe a 2" lift, get aluminum skidplates for the gas tank and rear diff. That'll basically make it equal to the Bison at a fraction of the cost, AND you don't have to waste space in the bed for the spare. You'll never miss that 1/2" of extra clearance you'd get with the 35's and unless you're racing, you won't miss those jounce dampers. I found the suspension to be amazing when I was ripping around the Valley of The Gods in Moab about a month ago! Just floating along, I even caught some air over a rise and it never felt close to bottoming. It was a blast! The $12k price difference (more expensive than the Raptor!) without an engine upgrade and the spare in the bed are the showstoppers for me. Love my "regular" ZR2 though!

    Oddly - why make a new powertrain that does what a 6 Cyl does = same mileage, same toque, but add hybrid complexity. I don't get it. Plus people would possibly go for a hybrid with excellent gas mileage - Fingers crossed that the battery lasts the life of the truck... but why would I take those risks for no more power or mileage? That's what I think is odd.

Did they think that would go over well when Tacoma fans are already upset with them for moving all production to Mexico on top of it. They cut labor cost by like 95% but raised the price of the TRD Pro by over $20k vs the 3rd gen TRD Pro.

    And once again... another comparison where the trucks are NOT set up the same. Its pointless! Traction is key, Tires should ALL BE THE SAME. Same tread, same size, same lifts, same mods. OTHERWISE its a BIAS. YOU know it, WE KNOW IT. So again, what is the point?
