Finally!! A real Ford Ranger Raptor video from TFL. I was waiting for the Cyber truck to show up 😢. Looks like an incredible factory stock vehicle. With the side steps removed, it would be in a very rare class of everyday vehicles. Great on and off road. Great video TFL.
Fun fact, this is the first off-road trail I ever attempted. I was in an unmodified 2013 Land Cruiser. I also didn’t realize that it was a 9/10 difficulty because I had no experience. I hadn’t told anyone that I was going off-roading, so it was pretty scary. Obviously I turned around at the gatekeeper they mentioned 😂
Thanks Tommy! Your little adventure on that trail finally convinced me to drive 600 miles to a dealer in the middle of nowhere to get my hands on the Ranger Raptor. At the moment they're not easy to find and unfortunately the dealers also know that. The MSRP is around $60k, dealers at the moment charge around $65-70k for it. While I do own that 5th generation 4Runner you guys had in the video, and yes its A-TRAC system has no competition out there, I got sick of its abysmal engine power on the highway (especially here in Colorado at high elevation) and the lack of creature comforts. Was considering the new lineup from Toyota as well, but their brand new engines and transmissions seem to be plagued with problems at the moment. Hope they get them sorted out eventually. The one thing you omitted from your videos Tommy is how overpowered that Raptor is 🙂Driving it back home, I was easily passing cars on the highway, irrespective of the fairly aggressive BFG KO3s it comes with. Buttery smooth drive. It put a big smile on my face 🙂Fingers crossed it won't let me down.
As the owner of a 2019 Gen 2 Raptor and 2014 Gen 1 Raptor I’d say the side steps work nicely as intended (to stop rocks from flying up and hitting your fenders during high speed desert running). They were never intended as rock sliders and do reduce clearance when rock crawling.
Excellent video Tommy looks like a pro going up that trail. That Ranger Raptor is just next level for a factory truck. I'am glad Ford keep with the V6 in their mid size truck.
Back in the older years we rocked trail challenges without all of this tech stuff. I guess our tech in those days was simply different more analog I guess which did work & perform! All in all, I am simply glad that the off-road world 🌎 still is evolving 🤘🏽👍🏽. Great job guys!!
I am nothing like what people might call a "Ford Guy" what so ever being I appreciate the GMC product for the type of driving I perform and have performed and this kind of driving you guys are doing hasn't been my "type of driving" for a lot of years.... since I had my 88 1/2 Samurai! Now THIS TRUCK.... This truck makes me rethink the Ford product! Makes me want to get back into the offroading adventures again! How impressive what that thing can do! Not horrible looking either..... Love your vids, guys! I am making my way through watching all of them since becoming a subscriber only a couple months ago! Please... keep them coming!
@@JohnSmith-zi9orim curious about this too? Because the ranger raptor has amazing ride quality i dont want to ruin it with a lift. But when i get mine i do want to lift it😂
It has a 2.5 inch lift as well as other stuff but this is why people bought the previous gen 4Runners (and Tacos). Super capable and super reliable. This is what Toyota trucks are meant to be.
I just did the desoto mine trail in Arizona in my ‘08 tundra w/a 3” lift on 35’s and it is rated 6/10 and I beat up my skid plates a bit. My t-case skid got hit hard😬. Granted, there were no bypasses. Totally fun and would do it again. Don’t think I want to do anything harder though, just good to know that my truck can do something that hard.
I'm buying an RR in the next few weeks. I won't be doing any challenging off roading but it's great to see what the truck is capable of if ever needed or wanted.
Good stuff. Exactly the type of thing I enjoy most from this channel. More i see of this particular Raptor the more I like it. Hope they turn out reliable. Enjoyed you guys having a 4runner alongside, now I know my TRD ORP can handle it too, albeit with a bypass or two. Might have to check it out next time I'm in the northern part of the state
It's awesome to see the new rigs trying this out since I did it in my 88 YJ a few years back. It was fun and quite the bouncy trip. I did take a few of the easy lines, but I went up both the bypass and Heart Attack Hill. Only had a 2.5 inch lift with worn out 30inch KO2's. A bit disappointed by some of the wheel placements in this video but very good example of their abilities still.
Sweet that you guys are actually going out and properly testing vehicles. There is a major flaw in onX offroad though and that's their rating system. In reality that trail is a 6 at most and that would even be high. 9 is ridiculous considering a 10 is a buggy rated trail. The whole point of the rating system is to inform people of what to expect. For comparison Fordyce is rated a 9... and these two trails compared as the same on the app is just silly.
Awesome seeing the raptor in action. Saw your pop at Whole Foods a couple weeks back. Said hi but didn’t want to bother him so late in the day. Hope to see you guys in action some time! @tfloffroad
The RR making that trail look easy while the Toyo was having some difficulty. Wish Tommy wouldn’t have used the locker just to see how it would do on that last obstacle. But still, RR FTW

Tommy, you make it look as easy as it looks. lol. You are the right guy for OR at TFL. IMO. Not sure I agree with the rating on that trail. Maybe more like a 7.5/10. It’s hard to make obstacles look steep on camera. This looked steep!
