"WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama acknowledged Friday that "civilians were killed that shouldn't have been" in past U.S. drone strikes, but said the administration is now "very cautious" about striking where women or children are present.
Obama was asked at a news conference about an increase in the number of people targeted in drone strikes against extremists in Libya, Syria, Somalia and elsewhere.
"In the past, there was legitimate criticism that the legal architecture around the use of drone strikes wasn't as precise as it should have been," Obama said. "There's no doubt that civilians were killed that shouldn't have been."
He added that over the last several years, the administration has worked to prevent civilian deaths.
"In situations of war, you know, we have to take responsibility when we're not acting appropriately," Obama said.
Recent drone and other airstrikes against extremist targets have killed large numbers of people. A strike on an Islamic State training camp in western Libya in February killed more than 40 people; a drone strike in Somalia against al-Shabab on March 5 killed 150 people. The voice of this dude, if you want to torture me, let him read me a childs book.
Hilarious..Thanks for the laugh👍
I'm sure he does Drag Story Hour at his local library on weekends.....
I’m guessing he performs at night in a glittery red dress heals and lip syncs to Donna Summers She works hard for the money and I feel sorry for Donna Summer 😂
@@timjarvis9078 That's a pretty safe bet.
Thank you Judge Kavanagh.
Amen
I never thought Trump would be responsible for what all those diaper infant minors did at the Capital, since I had been told that all those involved in the insurrection were all under aged children, and under, "Trump's day care", it is like saying that if Trump told those insurrectionist to "crap on the streets", Everyone would expect that Trump literally go out and clean it up himself. REALLY? NOT!!! HOW Ridiculous, my point is that these Insurrectionist were all grown hairy adults, and knew very well between good and bad, and Trump had and has no control for what people do and not do, on their own free time.
"The DOJ takes criminal law very seriously..."
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Did he say ‘ 2 branches concerned with the integrity of their actions’? Seriously?!
I wasn't all that happy with Brett Kavanaugh but he's nailing it here. Absolutely right.
What is it about an independent counsel that you feel is a bad thing? While I agree that it walks a fine line, I feel that we need to have the ability to look into possible criminal activities in real time. I don’t feel the president should be treated as a suspect, but I feel that the oic should have the ability to confirm/disaffirm what the president’s counsel is telling him.
Judge Kavanaugh: Ask no questions in regards to the case before him.
Commenter: He nailed it.
@@Ma660t5andw1ch One problem is from whose power does the independent counsel get it's power? Basically if it's from Executive Branch since the President is the head he can influence it and if it's one of the other branches it seems like one branch trying to influence/impede the Executive Branch. Another problem is what we are already witnessing with people in power who turn out to be either activist types or just people who have an agenda against the other side or person, what's stopping those types from influencing a supposed independent counsel?
Overall the thought that an independent counsel should be set up for the Executive Branch is ludicrous considering the various problems it could likely have on the power of the Executive. More so if there are already measures that can take place such as impeachment in which case afterwards the former President could be tried criminally if required.
@@degraves2003 It's relevant in the fact that people could easily find what Obama did to be just as egregious and think exceeded his Executive power. So if one President is seen as exceeding Executive power but the other isn't and both cases are not clearly defined by Executive power or has some laws that could be interpreted either way what is stopping later administrations from doing this to later Presidents? It could end with each new President trying to convict the leaving President on some grey line issues.
Which laws did Obama break? This is all new here. Or is it, my guy(djt) is bad but yours is worserist?
That attorney sounds like he has a lot of pronouns.
Probably has blue hair and wears a 😷.
Probably another Biden appointed Trans.
19 at last count.
Was thinking the same lmao 😂
😂😂😂😂😂
“Statements that are made by the President to the public do not fall within the realm of criminal statutes.”
So that means Trump cannot be charged with inciting an insurrection on January 6th? Bingo!
When they asked what about a president leading a coup, did they forget about the Bay of Pigs?
Double standards
Yes, if you ignore all contexts, facts, or logic.
The essence of the DOJ attorney's statements" "you can trust the DOJ to administer the law fairly and without prejudice." If he said that with a straight face, he should receive an Academy Award.
If he said it at all and he did indeed imply that, he is an enemy to the Constitution.
absurd
Thank you justice kavanaugh
This bs case should be DISMISSED
Great questions from Justice Kavanaugh.
Not saying the target didn't deserve it; but Obama ordered a drone strike on an American citizen which also killed his 16 year old (American) son.
So, the gist is that the DoJ should be in charge of the president's actions. What a shock, not.
No...its trust that a legal case can be argued but saying someone cannot be prosecuted no matter what, would be a dictatorship in the making. It is incredible how hard this is for some of u to understand!!
@@keivngibbs2897 that's what the impeachment process is for. Since they tried that route, twice, and failed, twice, his immunity should be intact.
@@keivngibbs2897 Obviously you like repeating yourself, but only ONE person agrees with you. GO AWAY.
Waste of taxpayer's money period
I'd have more respect for Justice Kavanaugh if he just stuck with "I like beer!".
I love how he argues that things are actually better now, so nothing to worry about. Lol Yeah, right.
thats why they are marxists they only believe in year zero
Saying he didnt carry out the strikes personally is fucking laughable and Im not sure how anyone could say that and be serious when they said it.
If that's the case then Charles Manson needs to have his name cleared immediately and any descending family needs to be paid for his wrongful imprisonment.
Crazy how a lawyer arguing in the Supreme Court does not know about the doctrine of complicity, aiding or abetting or joint criminal enterprise
@@Bruh-yc9xs They most likely do, the issue that stands here is can they fundamentally rewrite or reinterpret it when it's not their own man. This is to get Trump and keep the massive ponzi's and other corruptions rolling along.
In the military, we were told we could refuse an illegal order! I don't think anyone ever refused an order!
WoW. What a time to be in !
Amen..that's how God works.. the 8+ years of targeted MSMTDS have reached heights of unimaginable consequences..😊
The judge should have asked is this not a vindictive prosecution?...
Amen.
It's not thats why he broke the law a lot
He committed a crime, 91 of them, he doesn’t have immunity after his presidency. That’s what he’s trying to say that immunity follows him, and per the constitution it ends , and then he can be prosecuted. That’s what’s happening now. It’s not political, it’s criminal. That’s why he’s running again cuz if he wins he can get rid of federal trials, but not state ones. So georgia is still there., as is arizona, with fake electors, and a few other states. I guess your ok with other people going to jail, like all his lawyers, like Sidney Powell, who turned states evidence against him…..for the same stuff just not trump??
How is it a vindictive prosecution? Please explain.
@@Aeroldoth3 why wont they change venue from a blue state... please explain.
Geez could they possibly find more annoying lawyers to argue these cases...🤦
