4:58 As much as i hate the opinel since i feel im beyond it. My dad kept one in his tackle box and i gotta say it does have its place in the knife world i give it that.
The thing about the Pyrite is that they took a solid evergreen design and made it accessible/attractive to so many different levels of consumers. You can get the ultra budget version with plastic scales, or you can rock titanium scales with inlays and an S90V blade, or something in between with your choice of blade size and shape to boot, with full confidence that you are getting your money’s worth. I don’t think any other knife has proven so adaptable.
I think Civivi/We has something similar in the Qubit and the Elementum It’s just that, they haven’t done nearly as many versions blade shape wise, as CJRB/Artisan Cutlery WE needs to make an FRN & 9Cr18 Elementum for 30-40$ And they need to make a warncliff or reverse tanto, and a tanto version to catch up
Yeah it’s a great knife. I have a few ergonomic based complaints but man the action is wonderful, the factory edge was paper shredding sharp, the fit and finish is incredible for the price point but at the end of the day I still hate supporting Chinese manufacturing with my hobby. I won’t be buying another pyrite, but I think I will buy another bugout
Make sure to lead with the Spydercos. If you like them you'll be hooked and it'll save you a lot of money (wasted on other knives). If you don't, it's something that is good to get out of your way and learn early on. So either way you should start with a Spyderco. I've gone through Benchmade, Giantmouse, and Viper before landing on Spyderco and I feel like selling those now just to get more Spydercos lol.
I've always had sub 100 knives, but that has changed. First was a benchmade griptilian sheepsfoot, and now I went to microtech and protech. Good luck! 👍🏻
The Piratech Kraken DLC might be my "grail" knife, and is also $150+ more expensive than any other knife I own. Also the mini pyrite alt is my favorite knife to carry with shorts/sweatpants. It's slim and the clip and smooth handles slide into my pocket perfectly.
Thanks for making this MC. I recently purchased a Manix 2, and threw on some aftermarket scales, Flytanium parts, and a light spring, and it hasn’t left my pocket in over a week. I like the looks of the Shaman, and *do* want to try one, but I want to wait until they bring out a model in a different steel. I’d like for them to do a Salt Series in Magnacut, but then again I’d also enjoy, S35VN, CPM154, or something else with a really nice balance.
Okay, you've got to love it when a channel you've been following for years, that has helped to fuel your collection, ran by a guy who's an enthusiast like you (but waaaay better), with more knowledge pulls out a knife you should try...and it just so happens that you just got this knife in the mail a few days ago!! I just bought two Vosteeds: The Racoon and Nightshade! At least I know I'm on the right track! Thanks MC!!
I've got the Bugout, Para 2, Para 3, Shaman, and XM-18. Plus the Mordax which is similar to the Malibu. And have to agree they're all excellent knives. Now I need to look into an AD20 or Umnumzaan.
Another great pocket knife every one should try is the Buck 110 Hunter. Iconic design, rich history, one of, if not the first "heavy-duty" folding knives produced. Pleasing brass and ebony handles. Made in USA. Forever Warranty. Leather Sheath. Decent steel offerings (420HC, S30V) BOS Heat Treat. $65 at most stores/online. Cons are no pocket clip, heavy at ~7 oz, standard steel is good but not great, riveted handle on base model. The best knife? No. However I think it is a great knife in any collection given it's characteristics.
This list is crazy. I don’t think I could have made a better list of knives I like. People’s taste of knives is so varied. There is not a single knife on this list I would not carry on a daily basis. This is a master list. Now I need that kumu or whatever it is. That thing is awesome.
MC. I was going to say bad things about your top 20, but when I saw the Padre, Unmumzaan and Hinderer in the video I will say, great content and a great top 20. Fun video, have a great weekend.
The Skaha II is my absolute favorite knife I've bought from your recommendations. It is absolutely amazing. The detent feels different because it is a cylinder, not a ball. So it has a super crisp break. Kind of similar to the VC Edge Interface. If you remember that.
My wife loves the top liner lock Vosteed Racoon. I'm more of a 300 to 350 range knife guy. I love the Kunwu Pulsar Xl and have been carrying it daily since I bought it.
Living in wnc, we got hit hard man, if I didn’t have UA-cam to brighten my day idk what I would do. Keep going man love the content always have. Just got a kansept, really like their stuff. Hope you and the family are doing well 👍
RSK is a great knife, one of the best USA value knives ever, but there’s nothing special about it. It doesn’t have a unique function, legacy, or history like a PM2, 940, or Sebenza. I love it and is one of my go to recommendations, but it’s not something someone needs to try.
Good list. I have a few of the knives here, both inexpensive and expensive. But, my current one and done is the Spyderco Endura 4 with wave opener. Simple, reliable and does most everything I need. Im thinking about getting an Endura in K390. Looking forward to part 2.
Ive tried half on the list. If i tried a new one, id choose the exo, the ad20 rather than .5, and the zaan, although i carry the large sebenza 31 and inkosi regularly
I agree with most of the knives on this list but I'm shocked you didn't mention or put Sharp By Design, Koenig, or Shirogorov on it. Especially SBD given how much you love Brian's knives and how much you've hyped them up in the past few years. Sure, they're very expensive and tough to obtain but these are my favorite knife brands making knives that "everyone should try once." I have and they are easily in my personal top 3.
Wow! Great list! Near perfect! In fact. But we all have our preferences. I’d make the following tweaks: 1. Replace the Padre with the Compadre. I love smaller size. 2. Replace the Umnunzaan with the Sebenza. It’s just too darn classic. 3. Remove the Racoon, Launch, Bugout, Demko, and Deka. WHAT? Please hear me out. 4. Replace with -A. TRM Neutron. -B. Chavez RCK9. -C. Quiet Carry Drift Large. -D. Kizer Original - any one of the many variants. -E. Enrique Peña Mula.
Opinel is basically what a modern person needs nowadays. Any other knife is more a personal statement on your level of "tacticool" you're trying to achieve.
I loved the Microtech Combat Trodon out of all, and I'd really recommend you type the names of the knives on the video by the view order this will help us better get the spelling of the new brands we didn't know about before. cuz for me I used to love the trodon along time ago but I missed a lot of names along the video cuz I didn't have a photographic memory of the name. great job over all.
Greetings from a Tiny Island in Maine, USA Great as always MC. Don’t forget the Oz Machine Roosevelt, TRM Atom & since you love Vanax, the Quiet Carry Drift in part 2
Yeah Kizer makes great, affordable knives. Better than a few brands / models on this list. (Mini) Begleiter 2, (Mini) Sheepdog C01C, Assassin, Cormorant, Towser K, Drop Bear, Feist, etc. They have an awesome lineup of knives but doesn't get the hype some other Chinese knife manufacturers seem to get, especially on this channel.
A good old fashioned, innocent and true story… *MC* “Gather around everyone, I’ve knife wisdom and a hearty chuckle to share” *MC’s Homies* “We’re here for it…only if you do the voices.”
I recently bought a Civivi Vision FG, the lexan one in this video. I also recently won a Spyderco Shaman...I agree with everything you've said. I would never pay the over $350 CDN for the Shaman, but it is a robust and fantastic knife...maybe it's just that I'm not a big Spyderco guy, but it's an absolute beast. The Vision FG is a fantastic blade and was a bargain at $120 CDN, I don't know why it took me so long to get one, but now I want another.
It took me a long time to warm up to Spyderco knives, but since I broke through to them, I’ve become an addict… I believe I have about 40 Spyderco knives.
My Demko AD20.5 has a problem. The locking tab is so sharp, it hurts my finger. That one thing has soured me on Demko knives! Everybody loves them, except me!
I’m adding a microtech to my collection, want to add a pro tech at some point and even a bench made though I’m not sure what bench made that would be for me.
The launch 16, the skaha and the umnumzan are the only 3 im missing.( I went with the sebenza 31 as the zan is impossible to get) shoulda went with the insingo inkosi
The WE Vision clip needs to be on the blade side like the Graham Razel. That way the blade opens into the material it's clipped to. Right now it's backwards.
Sure you should look at a Bugout in a store, but it's not worth buying when there are better cross bar locks for the money, not to mention better locks in general, like the button operated compression lock and the Snex/Shark lock.
Sadly automatics and gravity knives are off the table for me but i own 8 pyrite's, so that kinda balances it? - mini al - mini ti/cf - standard g10 - standard damascus - standard ti/cf - xl - wharncliff g10 - wharncliff ti/cf
If you did have to open up the AD 20 and you were worried about the spring you could create a makeshift still air box by taking some dishwashing gloves and taping them to some kind of a plastic box with a lid, and you’d obviously have to cut holes in it for your hands, but this way you could put your hands through and open the knife up and even if the spring flies, it will stay inside the plastic box. Actually, now that I think about it, you wouldn’t even need the gloves because it’s not like you’re trying to keep it sanitary. You would just have to make the holes and put your arms through and hopefully the spring isn’t gonna fly outthrough the 1 cm of space around your arm. But if Murphy’s Law happens, you might still lose the spring.😂
If you actually enjoy and are passionate about blades, there will never be such a thing as the ‘’only pocket knife’’ you will enjoy different products at different prices for different reasons. It is literally the same thing as with watches. If you are both a watch and knife guy you will 1000% understand what I mean.
Sooo, honestly curious, is the DLC on a stainless that’s even more stainless than magnacut purely for looks or?….. maybe scratches? I always thought DLC was to prevent rust more than anything? Also, I swear I remember a video way back where you didn’t really like the Umnumzaan? Lol. I’m pretty sure I watched your first video and actually opted out of buying one for a while but ended up getting one for a good deal. But I totally get it, the more knives I’ve handled and owned and carried the more I’ve come to appreciate or like knives that I previously didn’t care much for. My current favorite edc is my AD20 drop point. But at first I hated the look of them, bought an AD20.5 and really, it’s a good knife but didn’t like how thin it was. Got the AD20 and carry it literally every day and use the hell out of it.
lol, Opinel… Good try! I gave one of those to my son. Make it an EDC, no way! lol I agree with all the rest.. I love the Civivi Vision. It is a great knife.
I do still need to get my hands on a hinderer. I really want a blue Ti 3.5 harpoon spanto XM-18, but it's proving to be a difficult combination to come by. And yes, if you're going to make a 45 minute video, I'm going to leave 3+ comments, because I can't remember what I want to say for THAT long.
Kapara baby. Its my most carried edc even though I have many options. Imo Shaman is basically an overpriced Manix2 with an objectively inferior lock. Don't get me wrong, comp lock is great, but wish SpCo would do more with the ball lock. I suppose its a corp pride thing (complock) with the ball lock basically being little more than a smart riff on something previously done.
This is a good video. This is a great channel. However, you really dropped the ball on the CJRB Pyrite family. You didn't go over the mini at all! You dismissed it by saying, "I don't like the 'tiny one.'" You don't have to like it, but you owe it to us to at least SHOW IT and allow us to evaluate at least the eye appeal for ourselves. Folks, I love the "tiny one" and think it's one of the better small knives on the market, especially the premium versions. I have the two colors with the standard AR-RPM9 and all three versions with the ultra-premium S90V. You did not even mention the numerous S90V versions of the standard-sized model. I have them all, budget and premium. I've had to pass on a lot of fine knives to afford this range of Pyrites, and I have no regrets. Nor did you even mention the numerous S90V versions of the standard model. I have them all. I've had to pass on many fine knives to afford this range of Pyrites. I have no regrets. They are ALL good.

The “One and Done” knife is a myth. No matter how great that knife might be, something else will always catch your eye.
“There’s always a bigger fish”
It would be hard but I could do one folder, one fixed and one balisong but they’d have to be holy grail level stuff.
The knife is still a one and done . Problem is you and I just have a weakness for the damn things can't hate on the knife for that
YES! I experience that almost every time I get a new knife 😂
That’s true for knife enthusiasts. Not for everyone else.
The quest for my "one and done" has lead to me buying more knives than I can count. Lol
Had to create a list on my phone for where I’m keeping them all 🥲
I agree no matter how great there is always another one that I "Have" to Have.
It's a serious problem. I have so many that I had to put them back in the original boxes lol.
I’m always a Spyderco guy when it comes to a one and done great share mc!
I will *never* get sick of seeing the Launch 16 featured. Its what Im holding in my hand right now while I watch. Love it to death.
4:58 As much as i hate the opinel since i feel im beyond it. My dad kept one in his tackle box and i gotta say it does have its place in the knife world i give it that.

Just starting my knife journey! So many nice knives!! This is a great overview of where to start.
Hell yeah, you gotta share where you start out - there has never been a better selection of knives to buy than now.

It's my lunchbox knife works great

If I own less than... 5 of these, I will use your links to buy a new knife today 😂
What’s the verdict? 😂
@ChazOfGod I owned 10 haha
But I did still grab an S90v Pyrite Bowie from his other video, so it all shakes out 😁
I’m up to 8.
MC is my favorite channel to listen to whilst browsing ok knives
That was fun. I am a little surprised the 940 Osborne wasn’t on the list, but that was still a great list. I only have one on it. 😂
This list is crazy. I don’t think I could have made a better list of knives I like. People’s taste of knives is so varied. There is not a single knife on this list I would not carry on a daily basis. This is a master list. Now I need that kumu or whatever it is. That thing is awesome.

The AD20 & 20.5 20cv were my most recent purchases. I'm using the 20.5 as an edc, and it is just tremendous.
My wife loves the top liner lock Vosteed Racoon. I'm more of a 300 to 350 range knife guy. I love the Kunwu Pulsar Xl and have been carrying it daily since I bought it.
6:54 cant say ive ever heard of a shark's foot but I love it mc
Great video as always! I’d put on either a trm atom or neutron on there somewhere but these were all solid pics
Living in wnc, we got hit hard man, if I didn’t have UA-cam to brighten my day idk what I would do. Keep going man love the content always have. Just got a kansept, really like their stuff. Hope you and the family are doing well 👍
omg... you"re actually giving a push to the openel... never saw that coming
About 6 months ago, largely because of your vids, i decided to try a XM-18. I now have 2 and just bought my second Eklipse. Thanks, MC.😀
I have most all of those knives, but the ones i won't part with are the two Hinderer xm-18 3.5 's .
One is an edc, the other is a safe queen.
I recently ordered a Skaha II after watching your videos, so I'm glad you still love it. I'm absolutely astounded the RSK isn't on this list.
RSK is a great knife, one of the best USA value knives ever, but there’s nothing special about it. It doesn’t have a unique function, legacy, or history like a PM2, 940, or Sebenza. I love it and is one of my go to recommendations, but it’s not something someone needs to try.
Thanks for the share..very well done! My first XM-18 arrives tomorrow! Have quite a few of your others. Reeves is next! ⚔️
Good list. I have a few of the knives here, both inexpensive and expensive. But, my current one and done is the Spyderco Endura 4 with wave opener. Simple, reliable and does most everything I need. Im thinking about getting an Endura in K390.
Looking forward to part 2.
Happy to say I think the Racoon is the only one I haven't tried. Great list, though, I think it encapsulated the industry pretty well.
Also, the green on the thumb stud of the Bugout always catches my eye
I’m looking for a new EDC for work, and it’s so funny that the Raccoon nailed it immediately
This is just part one 😉
Wow! Great list! Near perfect! In fact. But we all have our preferences. I’d make the following tweaks:
Yea no
I’m ok I don’t really want a block of wood floating around my pocket
No
Excellent video review! Thank you!
That Pyrite in aluminum and S90V that BHQ had for 120 bucks was a stupid good value in a high performance knife
Greetings from a Tiny Island in Maine, USA Great as always MC.
Don’t forget the Oz Machine Roosevelt, TRM Atom & since you love Vanax, the Quiet Carry Drift in part 2
No kizer drop bear on here!? That is a great knife in their budget or premium versions! Good quality and such a smooth crossbar lock
Opinel is the number one choice in France to cut dry sausage slices called "saucisson" 😉
And for the ones of us who only use our pocket knives to open a package once in a while, they are nore than enough. And beatiful classics.
A good old fashioned, innocent and true story…
*MC* “Gather around everyone, I’ve knife wisdom and a hearty chuckle to share”
*MC’s Homies* “We’re here for it…only if you do the voices.”
I have the lighter grey Demko AD20.5 which you showed. Did a video about it a while ago
Nice picks great video man 👍
I love and want the Kunwu X Padre !! ^^
That skaha has great acoustic 👍👌
My Demko AD20.5 has a problem. The locking tab is so sharp, it hurts my finger. That one thing has soured me on Demko knives! Everybody loves them, except me!
Great video, thanks MC
I’m adding a microtech to my collection, want to add a pro tech at some point and even a bench made though I’m not sure what bench made that would be for me.
For the Benchmade Bugout definitely go to Cabela's/BassPro and handle one but buy the Ontario Rat 1 or 2 or both or a few for that price. 😁😆😂🤣
It’s Kraken as in “crack-en.” In England it’s “Crah-Ken.” In America: it’s “crack-en.” Nowhere is it “cray-ken.”
Where did you get your pocket clip for your ad-10?? Thanks. Love your videos
Everyone needs a good Buck 110 and a 112. Classic knives that would cut most of these in half, especially on the price tag.
Perfectly timed video 🍻
Great présentation. Thank you 👍🏻
Can’t wait for terrible knives live tonight !!! Also with The Nick Shabazz ? Yes, please 🙏🏻
Not with but approved by 👍
Is this the REAL CRKT Ritual?!? I’m such a fan!
What OG scales are those on the deka?
Nice list. Cheers!
That’s the same configuration of Malibu I have and it’s such a fantastic knife
The launch 16, the skaha and the umnumzan are the only 3 im missing.( I went with the sebenza 31 as the zan is impossible to get) shoulda went with the insingo inkosi
Honestly the only knife that I loved from spyderco is Smock 🎉❤
I only have 3 on this list. Proceeds to hang head low and scuff heel on floor whilst avoiding eye contact.
I own none of these knives and I am perfectly fine with the ones I do own lol
The WE Vision clip needs to be on the blade side like the Graham Razel. That way the blade opens into the material it's clipped to. Right now it's backwards.
Thanks
My one and done is the Sebenza lol I know you hate it, but It just feels like it would take a beating more than others.
Sure you should look at a Bugout in a store, but it's not worth buying when there are better cross bar locks for the money, not to mention better locks in general, like the button operated compression lock and the Snex/Shark lock.
Are they ever gonna make a drop point launch 16?
I can't unsee the Demko handle/blade ratio
Thanks for this video much appreciated
I need to see a review on the best butter knife. I'm in the market place.
Everyone should try an Opinel at some point, i agree.
I love my Reate Exo M as an edc
What’s that first black knife called?
Looks like a North Arms Shaka is on the list now
Sadly automatics and gravity knives are off the table for me but i own 8 pyrite's, so that kinda balances it?
- mini al
- mini ti/cf

- standard damascus
- standard ti/cf

The exo is great but how did you not mention the exo og. The full size with the lock?
It's good. Probably too big for most people. Only reason it was left off
If you did have to open up the AD 20 and you were worried about the spring you could create a makeshift still air box by taking some dishwashing gloves and taping them to some kind of a plastic box with a lid, and you’d obviously have to cut holes in it for your hands, but this way you could put your hands through and open the knife up and even if the spring flies, it will stay inside the plastic box. You would just have to make the holes and put your arms through and hopefully the spring isn’t gonna fly outthrough the 1 cm of space around your arm. But if Murphy’s Law happens, you might still lose the spring.😂
Does the your vision fg get hit by the stop pin at all?
If you actually enjoy and are passionate about blades, there will never be such a thing as the ‘’only pocket knife’’ you will enjoy different products at different prices for different reasons. It is literally the same thing as with watches. If you are both a watch and knife guy you will 1000% understand what I mean.
11/20 I own and 5 that I do not I plan to purchase at some point. Awesome list.
A knife i really would love to own is the smock. I just haven't been able to afford one . Some day.
MORE vids like this Please!
Wish they would make a few Launch models manual 😢
Do you recommend the guardian tactical recon 35 over the kershaw livewire?
Stellar list
Demkos are in short supply. DLT has some Sebenzas and Inkosi but no Umnumzaan models.
Glad I bought my Spyderco Para Two when it was under $120
lol, Opinel… Good try!
I want a Kunwu Padre. 😮💨🤤
North Arm makes a living off ONE knife. Life is crazy. CRK, The Umnumzaan is still SOLD OUT everywhere.
Have you ever heard of mcneese?
Pass on the tiny one.
I said exactly what I meant to say.
Have a nice day
Alright Fred, you love the pyrites, damn. Chill. 😂
