Overall color being black red and little white. I love the car

1.6 to leave stock. 1.8 for power mods. The big boi is the "better" motor, but I think the little guy fits the happy face better and just loves to rev all the way up.
1.6’s and non vvti 1.8’s have the same rods. With the exception of the short nose crank shortcoming a 1.6 isn’t “weaker” than a 1.8. If you want a high revving N/A build the 1.8 is absolutely better, the 99-00 head flows better than any other motor, and there’s a lot more 1.8 intake manifold/itb support. For typical boosted applications, there’s really not a very big power differential between the two. You will need a new diff and better brakes on a 1.6 chassis though. Don’t let a good deal on an NA slip by cause it has a 1.6!
@@stevenbrumjr1005 doesnt the 1.6 engine have a higher redline than the 1.8? I thought the whole argument for it is that it has a higher redline so its more fun as a daily if you arent chasing HP or racing. Flying Miata made a good Q&A video about it and Keith Tanner said from his lengthy experience the 1.6 is a more fun spirited car that retains what the car was meant to be, but the 1.8 is the one for racing / HP. Overall the Miata even with a modified 1.8 isnt going to make much power (compared to a motor swap or compared to other similar vehicles) so if youre dailying or its just a weekend car for joy rides the 1.6 is more enjoyable and retains the spirit of what makes it a great car with the high redline and the power distributed across the powerband incentivizing you to rev it out (and without the required maintinance that a modified engine needs). Meanwhile the 1.8 has more mass in the engine making it not as "happy" compared to the 1.6 reving high (noth that it ISNT happy, just compared to the 1.6 the 1.6 feels happier to be at higher rpms). Similar thing as the 1.5 vs 2.0 ND as well. 2.0 has more power but also in 2nd gear it goes to 60mph at max rpm which makes it harder to utilize the whole rpm range when daily driving vs the 1.5 where you can rev out without going excessively fast. lower liter engines are smoother to rev / more enjoyable for daily or relaxed but spirited driving / joyriding and you can utilize the whole rpm range more often without speeding excessively.

I mean they're alright... I have a 94 fully built for track duty and it does the job to get out and put some laps in. It doesn't really do anything excellent it just does everything like a B grade, I just added I/H/E on mine with some reliability mods for the engine and it's just bulletproof. It does need a shit load of complimenting mods before it even feels track worth though. Better clutch, alot of chassis bracing, coils, definitely needs to have a bbk, make sure you got the torsen version, either brace the diff or get an rx7 housing like I did or IT WILL break no doubt, some wheels and tires, a short shifter and some good seats and you'll have alot of fun.
