Vanessa, your goulash looks delicious, and I'm sure it tastes wonderful. 😋My maternal grandmother emigrated to America from Germany in 1915 when she was 17 years old. Her parents sent her here to escape the war. She made her goulash in a somewhat different way but it was a meal we had frequently. My mother learned how to make goulash from her. And now 70 years later my sister and I make it for ourselves!

I have eaten goulash, but I've never made it from scratch. It looks so appetizing! The quality of the beef is outstanding. I wish technology would make it possible to smell what is cooking. I've been to Bavaria many times but have never seen that brand of dunkel. Who is the brewer? I also cook with bier. I have made stews with Weihenstephaner dunkel, also chili with Red Stripe (Jamaican Lager), and I make salmon using stampfbeir . I don't drink stampfbier, but the rich, carbon-smoky character is excellent for cooking. I hope you decide to release more traditional Bavarian dishes. People here in the U.S. need to learn how to cook using amazing bier from Germany. Is there a dish where roggin beir is used? My favorite roggin bier is by Thurn und Taxis. A wonderful episode. Well done. Prost!

Yes, I like to eat goulash, and you actually inspired me to try it with venison when I first saw you in a camping video with Lilly. You cooked deer goulash over the campfire that night. My cousin gave me some moose stew meat and I made a very tasty goulash with it a week or two later. Still later, I cooked a pot of it for him. I am now a regular viewer of your videos (and Lilly's too.) You have a beautiful kitchen, by the way.

Reminds me of my grandmothers kitchen. I tend to use cast iron dutch ovens , pots and pans, as they cook themselves once hot.
Spent some time, in both germany and austria in the 1990s. So have had goulash in austria it was made with hirsch (deer) very dark meet. But had a good taste.
I will definately try yours in time.

Goulash is a favorite at my house. Just 2 of us now; kids grown and gone. My recioe is a bit different than yours, but still very similar. For one, my wife doesn't care for the taste of paprika, so it gets left out. Also, for simplicity, I use ground beef. Just had it 2 nights ago

As I wrote on your German channel, I will try a Goulash a la Vanessa! Thanks ! Unfortunately, it is difficult to find ready-made Spätzle, such as Knöpfle in Finland. At one time they were available at Lidl, but... 😋❤🦊

I just Love watching you Cook with that Woodstove! Allowing the meat to simmer, in a cooler spot on the stove top, is the secret .. let the extra water evaporate away, leaving behind the tastie escents of the beef. Adding the vinegar to it, separates all the fatty parts and creates a good broth. Looks absolutely delicious 😋
Please, do more cooking, Vanessa! I'll bet the entire house smells wonderful 👍😊

My Oma always made spatzle which we LOVED!! I have to try my hand at it. Nothing like a cozy home that's warm and smells of good food cooking on the stove. Do you make Rote Grutze? Have you made a video of it already? Oma would top it off with a warm vanilla sauce. Soooo good!

This is an all-time great classic. One of the ultimate winter foods. I appreciate seeing your unique preparation, Vanessa. A rich concoction.
A minimalist version contains just meat, sweet paprika, ground caraway, (marjoram?), and onions;. But I use walnut oil to brown and red wine .
Yes to the fat, but the best I ever made had beef, pork, and venison all together crispy browned in bacon fat.
Best served with crusty pumpernickel bread and red wine from a tabletop wineskin, with the legs in the air.

    Yes, I am now hungry.
Yes, I love Goulash ... bread rolls "and" wood stoves ... but sadly, I live in the UK and we are not permitted to cook on wood stoves [it is illegal and if caught we could go to prison] because our misleaders in the guise of leaders keep coming up with insane money making ideas that will help them fill their coffers, and get back to having weekly subsidized alcoholic parties in their clubs where they can seduce their drunken benefactors and pay their debts to each other.
    Thanks for sharing ... xx

I enjoyed watching you make your meal. I have eaten a variant of your recipe growing up. Your goulash looked very delicious. I also have a wood burning kitchen cookstove and I agree with you. Food taste much better being cooked over the wood heat. Thank you for sharing.

I think I'll have to try your version of Goulash. Although here in the states we have many variations of this. I thing majority of the recipes here use ground hamburger and noodles. Which would mean it wouldn't take 4 hours to cook. If your interested in a recipe I'm familiar with let me know. 😊

Seeing you cook on the wood stove takes me back to my childhood and watching my Mother cooking meals on the stove. Thank you so much for the memories. Your Goulash looks very much like our American Chili.

What is called goulash in America is clearly not what you’re eating. It’s still good but it’s more of an everything in the kitchen stew. Usually even some macaroni cooked into the sauce and the ways I have seen it cooked here is fast. I’m sure yours is very good too, just you asked so figured I would share it’s a surprising difference between the two cultures/countries. Grandma used to make it but didn’t know what to call it, I found out what most Americans call goulash is basically what Grandma used to make. Very very good though, especially when it’s cold out. I don’t make it so often because the kids and wife don’t really care for it. I could be doing it wrong or they could have some sort of genetic abnormality affecting their ability to discern flavors but they love the deer chili, especially when I use deer sausage instead of deer burger.

I've had goulash, all right, but it was a long, long time ago: school lunches when I was maybe 6 years old. I'm 48 now, so that means it's been more than 40 years, and I don't even remember what it tastes like!

Sorry wrong key!!! We sort of forget your home language is German. Another plus for your kids to speak one and know the other very well. What a meal, as all of a sudden I'm stravering. Goulash is different, but I like a good beef stew with all the herbs and a touch of whiskey in it, which lasts for days and gets better everyday for taste, when I have the time to cook it.

Hi Vanessa, another great video. I had hungarian goulash years ago, but have never been able to make it. I first had Schnitzel in a German restaurant in South Korea and never seen it anywhere since. It is great I loved it. With the Goulash how do you get the rich creamy sauce? Do you add any flour of thickening agent?

I had an old wood kitchen stove in my cottage in Canada and it was awesome for making all kinds of food as well. Too bad you were not my neighbor back then. We could have shared so much recipes. This modern age of micro waves and cardboard food is depressing when you think about how we use to prepare meals not that long ago. As always. Be well and God bless.

I eat blade steak almost exclusively. It is a little tougher, but done right it is nice and tender. Especially in a goulash or a stew.
