  • Hey There, Beauties!
    Today I am PUMPED because I’ve been getting a bunch of requests to see my hair stylist conduct my relaxer service. Welp, today you’re getting just that!! I’m showing you guys live footage from my last salon visit and relaxer service. Woo!
    As I always mention, I am not a hair professional so definitely defer to the judgment of a professional hair stylist. This video is merely an illustration of MY relaxer process and is only being offered to provide further explanation for how I achieve my texlaxed results!
    Everyone’s hair is different and results may vary, so you should ALWAYS consult a professional before applying any chemicals or products to your own hair.
    Replication of my relaxer service without a professional is not encouraged and is done at your own risk!
    BUT ANYWAY!!! :)
    I hope this video provides further insight into my relaxer process. Successful relaxer services are fundamental to continued healthy relaxed hair and should be taken seriously!
    Let us know in the comments if you’re relaxed or considering relaxing your hair and how you achieved your relaxed / texlax results!

    I was professionally relaxed for over 3 decades and natural for 7. Being natural taught me a lot about my hair. I have never worn a wig, weave or braids and at 59 and I doubt that ever changes. I went back to relaxers a 1 1/2 years ago and I now self relaxed. I use the same technique, products, and timer to maintain consistent results. I’m not bone straight. I typically roller set ( no other heat is applied until next wash day) or do a braid out using perm rods on the ends. This works well for me and I have had no issues.

      Very nice! I have to agree with you, I learned SO much when I was natural. I'm grateful for that period of time because it forced me to rid all my old terrible practices and adopt a healthy hair regimen. I am always in awe when people tell me they self-relax lol. My heart would skip a beat if I did that on my own, haha. But no one knows your hair better than you so I completely get it. I'm so happy to hear that you're on a healthy hair journey and things are working well for you! May I ask what kind of rollers you use for your roller sets? I'd like to start getting back into them myself. Thanks again for the support babe! Xoxo.

    I currently do my own, I've been relaxing for a yr after 13yrs natural. I relaxed my hair straight because i stretch for 5 to 6 months @ a time & it allows me to stretch long without breakage. My hair when wet or air dried is still very curly but it's because the relaxer i i use is mild. I'm currently BSL. Your hair is gorgeous. Well I'm certainly glad that people are not bashing women for getting their natural hair relaxed anyone, because for so long people used to make women feel so bad if they got their natural hair relaxed, especially those that have done the big shop on their hair and they wanted to start wearing their own natural hair, they will get offended if another woman relaxed her natural hair. they would accuse the woman of not being proud of their own natural hair, well I think every woman should do what works best for her own hair rather it's wearing it naturally or relaxing it each woman knows what works best for her own hair

    I love this and use nothing bus Design Essentials products and it has been awesome for my hair....natural hair takes too long to style...I wear a lot of protective styles as well...what do you think of that (best opinion)

    • @AlexisKimberlyy
      @AlexisKimberlyy  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks babe. Design Essentials is a GREAT product line. So happy to hear your hair is doing well! And to your question, I decided to relax my hair because washing, styling and protecting my natural hair was just too time-consuming. I found myself wearing more protective styles than having my hair out. There were other things that went into that decision as well, but I hope you don't feel ashamed by your experience because you are NOT alone. Protective styling actually grew my hair out faster than if I had worn my hair out all the time. I absolutely recommend intermittent protective styling. The key is to maintain your moisture regimen while your hair is in the protective style and refrain from tight styles that create a lot of tension. I'm not sure I answered your question lol. Does that help? xoxo

    Stumbled upon your channel today and subscribed. Great content!
    In your opinion, what is the advantage of being relaxed/tex-laxed versus being a “straight”-haired natural (keeping your natural hair in straight or stretched styles using heat)?
    I’m at the end of my natural hair rope and am trying to best decide my next hair move. Keep up the great content!

    • @AlexisKimberlyy
      @AlexisKimberlyy  4 роки тому +3

      Hey babe!! Thanks so much for joining the fam! Great question.
      I think the biggest advantage is the ease of switching between straight styles and braid outs/heatless styles. Overall manageability and easier detangling makes life WAY easier. I felt really frustrated with my natural hair because none of my styles would last and the work it took to straighten or stretch my hair just didn’t pan out to be worth it. My curls were beautiful but the maintenance was out of control.
      I’ll say there are definite upsides and downsides to texlaxing. You may wanna check out my “Is Texlaxing Right for You?” video to get an overview of the downsides to texlaxing before you take the plunge. Good luck babe!! Let us know what you decide and feel free to ask as many questions as you need! ❤️❤️

    • @tancam1231
      @tancam1231 4 роки тому +4

      I texlax my own hair. I did not initially do it on purpose. It happened after I got into the habit of moisturizing and sealing. Starting off you will have AT LEAST 2 textures (new growth, relaxed ends). Then down the road you will AT LEAST 3 textures (new growth, texlaxed, relaxed ends) until you cut off your straight ends. I say at least because with texlaxed hair it's really hard to get the exact same result each time. I don't have an issue with that because I dont plan on doing any wash and go's. Its all about manageability for me. Just be sure to document your journey so you have an idea of what process gives you the desired texture so you're able possibly reproduce it. I hope this helps. :)

      Yay! Congrats on your new texlaxed hair journey! Slight variation in texture is pretty normal. Even though my hair looks pretty uniform, my nape is still way tighter than the rest of my hair. It's just kinda the way my hair grows and I just live with it lol. So, is the difference in your texture minimal? If so, I wouldn't worry about achieving perfection. If it's a pretty big difference I would say wait until the salons open back up and head over to your stylist. NewBeginnings NewLife Hey love, I don’t purchase it myself so I don’t have a link unfortunately. Did you try the design essentials website? I can also see if my stylist has a link. 💋

    I'm sorry but umm...this seems like a "perm" type relaxer. Where as you're straightening your hair, not keeping some texture. For a TexLax method, you're not supposed to do ANY kind of smoothing. I mean it's completely up her preference, but this is not TexLax. This is just a straight-up relaxer retouch. The smoothing is what makes your hair more relaxed, in the traditional way that the black community would call it a "perm". A TexLax retouch, would be to put the relaxer on your new-growth and immediately rinse it out, NO SMOOTHING. The process would have to be done fairly quick, because you don't want straight hair with slight texture (as seen in this video), you just want to loosen your curl pattern for better manageability. No malice intended, I just think the smoothing was a bad choice.
