I love how the lore of the tasting section is pretty much essentially "Guy shows up, has some oisters at a local restaurant, trips the hell out and literally starts eating people before facing a manifestation of horrors beyond human comprehension he can only say 'ew' to"

Really enjoyed the video! I illustrated the book, and I've only had one of the recipes. When approached for the book, I was very concerned that they weren't considering hiring a food stylist/photographer. To get around the style choice, I thought we could have had the photographs somehow attached to the page, like an investigator's scrapbook. For the next book, Lovecraft Cocktails, I did full color representations of each beverage- because toned line art wouldn't cut it. We're starting work on a third book, and that, at least at this point, will have full color illustrations of each recipe.

Eating those robed cultists is kind of fascinating from a meta standpoint. Could we be the elder thing they are invoking? To answer your question about Vegemite vs Marmite. Vegemite is from Australia and is savoury and salty with a bitter tang to it. Marmite is from England and it’s also salty but sweeter. I recommend trying them on heavily buttered toast with some melted cheese. And they are acquired tastes so go for a light spread if you haven’t tried them before. Also amazing video, I have this book and it’s great fun to read through.

I must agree with your analysis. Having cooked a few dishes from the Necronomnomnom myself, the lack of photographs makes it hard to know how successfully I made a dish. For example, when I made the Unknown Ka'Squash (Roasted Spaghetti Squash), the sketch left me unsure how much Parmesan cheese to put on the tomato. In the first attempt, I went light on the cheese and was left wanting more; the second attempt was more successful with a hearty helping of Parmesan.
Other dishes suffer similar issues, but mercifully recipes just need some tweaks to reach good-to-superb quality. Its a cookbook that prizes its themes and artwork over the usefulness as a cookbook, but given how rare Lovecraftian food recipes can be, I think the creative choices were worth it.

Absolutely loved this episode, especially the end being so thematic! As an Australian I was a bit worried about the slathering for a first attempt- I personally don’t find much of a difference in taste between marmite and vegemite, but the texture can be a bit different and definitely acquired if not tried before!

Freeze the sausages for the legs homie.
I love how you make minor subsitutes to dishes in videos. I think a lot of home cooks are scared of things like that and prevent themselves from cooking. Or especially when they have to buy something in a bulkpack. That prevented me a lot in fear of it spoiling. I recently got over it. Love the reviews. looking forward to more!!
Maybe use the B&M canned bread? It's delicious, and toast a few extra pieces in a toaster to fit the design? Im confident you coulda flipped it without any trouble. Steaming with a lid to give it extra structure is encouraging the spirit to have the courage to flip it. Dude i love this channel!

I have to say you table is very appropriate for this videos like like taking a peek at one of the monsters your mind is trying to make sense of it only to fail to see what it truly looks like your mind struggling to find a familiar body only to see a twisting and contorted mass that doesnt even connect well into itself but somehow still does...sorry I got carried away
