I think it was the indus river valley civilization that had a strong central government that was notable for having a policy of giving salt to its citizens. Only a central government could afford to mine salt at such a capacity during that time.
Roman soldiers were often paid in salt because it was such a useful commodity for both flavouring and for preservation. That’s where we get the word “salary”- from “sal”, the Latin word for salt.

Here’s an easy cheap garlic bread recipe. Long bakery loaf(like a country loaf or something that looks like it has a thick crust. Cut in half, spread a lot of butter, dust on garlic powder, season with garlic powder, garlic salt, salt, pepper, an Italian herb mix. I was at a lovely Japanese Italian fusion restaurant a few months ago, and they had a dish on the menu which was a thick slice of cauliflower with all sorts of lovely seasonings. The waitress described it so nicely, then said “but we’re out of cauliflower, so today it’s a carrot” and I just could not stop laughing! We actually ordered the roasted carrot and it was delicious, so the theory that carrot can sub in for any vegetable does hold up in practice.
To be fair, I think the shortened recipes fit the spirit of Breath of the Wild cooking. I mean Link always seems to make these things instantly, so he’s gotta be taking some shortcuts with the preparation, he’s probably just putting meat in milk and calling it a stew, too.
The item descriptions in the game are always from Link’s perspective (Using “you” as the pronoun in stuff like rupee acquisition), so what if the nice-looking cooked food is actually just what Link is imagining while plugging his nose and closing his eyes?

There's a reason empires were built and wars were fought over spices. (And salt.)

Their egg pudding is instant death. I have personal experience, my mom once substituted vanilla coffee creamer for milk while making scrambled eggs and it is the worst thing I've ever tasted, not because it was that atrocious, but because she didn't mention the substitution before serving it.
Why are you using milk in your scrambled eggs?
I never do, not sure why my mom always did.
@@rogainegaming6924 milk can be used to 'expand' the egg without having to use more eggs. It also makes it creamy, though don't use too much or you're basically just frying milk
@@drawnwithlove3499 truueee it also makes like, I dunno how else to describe it, wet eggs? If you use too much
@@rogainegaming6924 A splash of milk in your scrambled eggs is fine. Like, a tablespoon, for two eggs.

++
The item descriptions in the game are always from Link’s perspective (Using “you” as the pronoun in stuff like rupee acquisition), so what if the nice-looking cooked food is actually just what Link is imagining while plugging his nose and closing his eyes?
@@harb1ng3r82 He's also been asleep for a hundred years and was a soldier beforehand so I highly doubt Link even knows what good food tastes like and is just happy to have something to eat. I do fasts and my god when a long fast ends the things I've eaten out of sheer hunger are strange things like bananas with cheese ham and butter on bread or a Hamburger and cereal I don't remember the taste but I remember feeling my body want them more than ANYTHING and eating being more of an impulse, like when you hold your breath until you HAVE to breath I think after a while your body just wants nutrients sooo bad it doesn't care how you get them in.
to be additionally fair, you can actually add salt to multiple dishes and not actually change the recipe - the recipe system is usually pretty flexible in that it prioritizes the most pretty dish with the ingredients' valid picks, prioritizing body over 'spice' components, afaik. so any dish they made with
He eats everything in a single gulp so I doubt he even tastes it. Just slam it back and get back to the fight.
Love how you got so desperate you literally gave fried bread a +5
The thing is, Pat and the other guy actually liked it too. And in principle, it's not really different from potato fries, or naan, or fried batter, etc. I think humans maybe just really like pure carbohydrates soaked in pure fats.
Neolexious Neolexian fried carbs are just great! The complex carbs break down into sugars, the Maillard reaction makes the sugars break down even further to create some rad flavours; all this + the savoury from the salt and flour creates a Large Yum™. No wonder nearly every culture has some type of fried carb
@@finerz321 And it's one really good way to enjoyably carbo-load your soldiers!
@@finerz321 makes sense, and I guess it's also the reason why there are so many recipes that call for reusing leftover carbs and cooking them again. In my country, we have capirotada, which is bread leftovers fried in oil, sweetened with unprocessed sugar and served with cheese, fruits and nuts
@@finerz321 in spain we have "migas" (it literally means "crumbs") that are just fried bread leftovers or flour and water with peppers, sausage, paprika sausage and some really fatty meat, similar to bacon (don't know its name). this plate slaps. u should try it, you won't regret it (but it's hard to make, it takes a lot of time, so try it in a restaurant or smth)

Watching this is both entertaining but also very stressful bc its clear that Brian has never had to plan for making a large amount of food in a short amount of time before. When he said he left the hardest recipes for last, it hurt my soul
When he flips over the fruitcake in the pan, solidifying it's similarity to a beef patty, that's the moment you can see both of them lose their last bit of foundation. They become broken men just waiting for the journey to end.
