Episode 1 and 3 are both like that to be honest. Though episode 1 is closer to a Black Mirror themed episode. While I did like this episode, well to be honest it was better than I expected, Episode 2 was far far better.
I didn’t really like this episode as much as previous episodes, I thought they could’ve really pushed how fucked up the music industry is by purely focusing on Ashley and her downward spiral. They could’ve really gotten into some amazing themes that hasn’t been tackled in Black Mirror yet, shame it was watered down in this episode
They literally did just that did u not fuckin see her own aunt/manager do all that fucked up shit? Like what are y'all watching this definitely gave some of the ins & outs to being a music artists/celebrity & obviously like no other episode because each ep is different
I thought they were gonna go the 15 million merits route with Rachel but that didnt happen, she just kinda gets forgotten after the first half. Then I thought Jack would've gotten more development or impact in the story, nope not much either. Then Ashley is just, well, idek. I dont know what this episode is trying to tell us in the end, theres a bunch of ideas and all of them dont work together or have a proper outcome.
Felt like I was watching a Disney channel original movie Edit: if it was satire it was INCREDIBLY badly handled, had nothing to say and completely uninteresting
Nick6356 yeah but she never played a part that went as “dark” as Ashley. She basically only played the Ashley that was forced to act happy. So I was pleasantly surprised by her acting
The thing is that Vocaloid is a program that's sold as a programme and a tool to be used to create/mimic songs. Ashley 4 ever is taking a person's identity kind of like the Tupac holograms.
Well actually, I think they've already started bringing back dead artists as holograms so this episode is if anything...out of date in comparison to what we've already advanced to.
It was literally the one I looked forward to it the most because I like Miley Cyrus and I love stories about the dark side of Hollywood but it was a mess
It's good, but quoting the popular opinion on this episode, it's "not black-mirror-worthy". Idk if it sounds egotistic as a viewer but Black Mirror supossed to leave us with eerie feeling. But this, and Striking Vipers... feels like any Hollywood movie, even this episode feels lot like Disney Original Movie. OR MAYBE, that's what exactly what they want us to think. But alas, I tried to respect the changes that the creator want to make. I'm just gonna pay for the subscription and pray for the upcoming season to be better
Yeah. Even with Smithereens being my least favorite episode of this season it did feel like an old Black Mirror episode. Striking Vipers did have somewhat of a feel of it, this episode didn't
I enjoyed the episode, but it almost felt like it should have been two episodes just from two different points of view. One episode could focus on Ashley O, the music industry, and her downward spiral with the ending holographic performance. The other episode could focus on Rachel's family with the purchase of the Ashley Too along with the mechanic mice that the father creates. There were topics that were barely mentioned (such as the effect of their mother's death on Rachel and Jack, Jack's response to Ashley Too's assertion of her only liking music that her mom liked, and what about the fact that the father completely bailed on his daughter's performance). The two episodes could have worked similar to the correlation between Studio Ghibli's The Cat Returns and Whisper of the Heart. I'm sure that Charlie Brooker and others could have found a way to make this work. But this probably where fan fiction can come into play. Who knows? I also like your critique of the scene where Ashley is poisoned. I definitely agreed that it could have been edited to be much shorter which a much more chilling effect.
Probably not even worth mentioning but some gates have sensors on the inside that make it open automatically when a car approaches, as they’re designed to keep people out, not in.
I loved this episode! I’ve heard someone once say “black mirror is like a box of chocolates, and they’re all dark chocolate.” This one is just milk chocolate haha, I dont mind the show experimenting with some “lighter” “bubblier” stories
Yeah, I think you identified the problem with this one. I found the lunch scene perfectly well done, and there are other parts of the episode I would have disagreements with you on, but the rescue bit? That stretched it too far. The rest of it, for me, made up for it... but that bit definitely stretched it too far. There's no way that guard falls for that. Should've been completely rewritten, that part. That and yeah, the dad character was way too much of a characature. So very paper thin. And both types of misstep, so unusual for the series. I watched it without knowing there was a pop star in the role. I think a lot of opinions against it were just infected with general distaste for the person herself, since a lot were focused on criticizing her acting. Her acting wasn't the problem. The script fell apart, that was the problem. Her acting was actually decent. The ending also felt overly goofy. I didn't spot the continuity botches at the time and found it a lot less egregious than you did, but it did leave me a bit empty of satisfaction. I think you explain why. I don't think the end shot of the aunt was a bad bit in itself (although I was confused by her reaction to the car), but I did like you need a bit more explanation about the actual consequences supposedly going on. The swearing honestly didn't bother me whatsoever. It seemed fairly ordinary and natural. I think that's the biggest disagreement I'd have with your assessment here. The anarchist symbol on the doll at the end honestly make me burst out laughing. I think that helped smooth over some of the problems for me, since it was kinda an indication that the episode wasn't taking itself very seriously (not that there weren't indications prior to that, but just that this was the one I couldn't help but go into a giggle fit over). But yeah all the same there were still some glaring holes in this one, and fun doesn't necessarily amount to satisfying, and in this case for me, it didn't quite.
Yeah like the first 20 minutes for me were really awkward to watch and the story was very cliche and generic with the aunt characters being a complete stereotype, even with the line "do you know what it was like for me" trying to give her insight but it failed
exactly. I was left with a feeling of wanting more but was confused. the episode wasn't particularly gripping so why did I want it to continue. You said it perfectly, I didn't want the content itself to be longer but rather a sensation of satisfaction, fulfillment, closure, and generally more development on behalf of almost ALL of the characters
Maybe the episode was trying to insult our intelligence? I think the episode was a commentary on the Disney-fying something. The episode is an example of what a Black Mirror episode would be through a Disney lens. Lots of Disney tropes such as dead parents, emphasis on dreams, comedic relief side characters. Ashley being recreated post mortem is like Disney or any other company recreating actors , eg Star Wars Princess Leia. I still didn’t enjoy the episode though.
I feel like this show being super stereotypical was kinda the point? Like kind of a satire as to how people see the music industry, or like a dark version of Hannah Montana. Many people grew up seeing Miley as Hannah and I think the episode moreso used Miley’s celebrity status and her talent as a singer rather than an actor. I thought this episode was good, admittedly I’d skip through Rachel and Jack’s parts, but I liked the character development of Ashley.
Those characters are kind of a downfall, Jack was the only one i kind of liked. Rachel didn't get any character arc whatsoever and about that talent show...really she slips like once and then she'd mAsSivEly eMbArSSed....like i get teens self esteem can be fragile but i found myself annoyed with that scene
@@devonmunn5728 u are right, rachel didn't even get a talk or scene at the end with ashley, granted they were busy at first but yea she needed more development especially since she was a big focus of the episode. i think we could have had more moments with ashley in general talking about her backstory and issues shes dealin with, not just a 20 second explanation to her aunt. also at the talent show im pretty sure they appluaded her, like it wasnt the cliche where the audience boo'ed or laughed. the whole going into the house and disguising themselves was done so bad and forced it was like i was watching some parts of game of thrones season 7/8.
@@cawmusic i know. Teens with self esteems issues (which i have had some issues in how i see myself) will tend to overexaggerate stuff but i think it more so annoyed me cause i have seen "character gets massively embarrased" scene done a thousand times already
This felt like a Black Mirror take on a Disney channel movie, and I enjoyed it for what it was. Definitely not one of the best episodes but it wasn't terrible
The idea of an alexa controlling every single aspect of our lives could have made a really good idea for a black mirror episode. Saddly this is what we got.
Actually, of the three episodes this season, I liked this one the most. I liked this episode more than Smithereens (which I liked the least) and Striking Vipers (which came in a close second of the three, largely for it deciding to focus more on the characters than the technology). Overall these three episodes feel like what might have been filler material in other seasons, so a lesser season compared to others. I think the reason I like this episode the most of the three we were given is because it's the first time Black Mirror has actually tried to do an unironic non-satiric comedy. Black Mirror has done a lot of Tragedy, Satire, Irony, and even some Romance. It was overdue to try its hand at Comedy. And I liked that even though Ashley did manage to escape the clutches of her Aunt, just because she switched to playing a dive bar doesn't mean her popularity continued with her former fans. In a way, her Aunt was correct about what sold, which I think really underlies the darker ideas in the story regarding how humanity undervalues real human expression over bubblegum feel-good platitudes which can do a lot of harm (you can't do everything you put your mind to) that sell well, but don't pan out all that much. It's a nice deconstruction of self-esteem-ism that's gripped American society since at least the 1980s. Smithereens was boilerplate Black Mirror, the kind of Black Mirror episode a non-fan of the show would point to and say is just anti-technology phobia wrapped in pretension. It felt uninspired and the characters were forgettable at the best of times. It also seemed underwhelming once all the stakes were fully revealed, and it crossed into the realm of unbelievable/ridiculous when the focus of the episode tried to make it about trying to convince the driver not to shoot himself. Brooker has done better, and this was really an episode I felt he phoned in. Striking Vipers was a neat exploration of the ambiguities in friendship. The characters were memorable, the actors were given a lot to chew on with how they had the opportunity to portray the same characters over a large expanse of time, and the exploration of the desire for more male intimacy (while it being taboo for one's manliness) and the confusion between intimacy and fighting for men was rather nicely thought out and explored. It was an interesting thought piece, with a good set of characters to ground the story. The only reason I put it second to Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too was because I actually had fun watching RJ&A2 (especially once the Ashlety Too robot was unleashed as the contrast between the cute bobble head robot and the foul mouth was delightfully funny), while there were times I felt SV dragged a little longer than necessary.
Thank you, I 100% agree. I thought Smithereens was awful and dull. At least the Ashley O episode brought some interesting topics to the table. All Smithereens has to say is "put down your phone, you gosh darn whippersnappers" which I've heard a million times in distracted driving PSAs. Furthermore I disagree with the notion that we blame social media for our own mistakes. The driver had no one to blame but himself, and avoiding taking personal responsibility by saying "the apps shouldn't have been designed to be addictive" is shoving blame onto people that had nothing to do with it. You don't see alcohol brewers recieving blame for how addictive their products are, so why the double standard with technology?
I thought it was rather dark that the digitised version of Ashley knew herself well enough to want to pull the plug on herself in that situation . The fact that she was actually alive didn't negate that and prompted the even darker idea that they deliberately kept her sedated for months to mine her for her music. Another route they could've taken was to mine they Ashley Too doll with the limiter or a modified version of a limiter to mine the songs like a Cookie from 'White Christmas' but hey. With the excessive f-bombs, I'm sure if I had been tasked with keeping my mouth clean for my entire life I'd have a bad case of tourettes too. I really can't argue with people who felt it wasn't as dark as it could've been but after many episodes that drive you down the spiralling pit of existential despair I'm fine with a bit of fluff.
I think this episode is important in a sort of meta way, with Black Mirror we anticipate things to go horribly wrong for the characters and an episode like this makes us start to feel like anything could happen again good or bad.
The episode (for me) felt corny, and as if I was watching a Disney special. The scene where Ashley too unplugs Ashley from life support was pointless because Ashley still lives. The songs also made my eardrums leak blood. But I feel the idea of the episode was great and it wasn’t so bad. The acting wasn’t the best but Miley Cyrus was actually very good. Another great review from my favorite reviewer, Harry well done.
My main problem with this episode is that it had no real focus. What was the message in the end? Don't put pop stars in comas because social robots with their personality will rescue them with children in tow?
Message: “Living a life of fame sounds nice, but you have to sell your identity, your soul. You’re better off as your true self, that’s where true happiness lies.” People just didn’t like it because they hate Miley or have a very weird view of what Black Mirror is supposed to be.
@@levischorpioen I like Miley Cyrus, and I'm not really sure what you think Black Mirror is "supposed to be" but if it would include more episodes like this then our ideas of Black Mirror are radically different lmao.
ULOIRAR I guess so. I think to a lot of people, Black Mirror stories are tragic, bleak stories with no happy end where technology reigns supreme. To me, Black Mirror is about how we distract ourselves from living our lives by things that were originally meant to enhance life, i.e. technology. It’s about us trading in our humanity for something that supposedly transcends the human experience, but only makes us soulless creatures in the end.
This episode should have focused on the creation of digital persons of musicians. This would lead to an everlasting character that could be used to push agendas and be eternally popular. It could also look at the mass production of cookies (which I feel was massively overlooked in the episode).
I think the theme of the episode tho is that its a disney channel parody where the story is given to you on a plate, like where they explain where the pills are even tho its that obvious. The car chase scene at the end, ashley waking up randomly even tho she was in a coma, thankfully, I think black mirror is maybe criticising Disney channel films whilst also showing how controlling they are over their actors?
tsirhcsusej But the result is literally just a Disney channel movie with swearing in it. Not really a parody because it goes the exact same way as all Disney movies.
I liked this episode... 06:10 I'm pretty sure they moved because their old home reminded them too much of their dead mother. It didn't seem like money was an issue, more that the dad is a bad dad, who focuses too much on work and not his children probably because of his wife. Technology also has 'good' qualities and the positive vibe I do like. IDK what i'm even talking about. And *if* this episode is actually mocking the standard Disney tropes/formula than that makes it even better
I like this episode...just because I don’t feel utterly depressed after watching it. And also because I grew up watching Hannah Montana/Miley and remembered how everyone reacted to her image change it really got me thinking.
Striking Vipers felt more like a Black Mirror episode. The other two felt like they focused on the celebrities’ character more than the actual plot. I hope they don’t fall off with these guess stars. I didn’t like this one specifically because it completely ignored the technology influence halfway through and was just a lifetime drama.
Maybe this episode was supposed to mimick the way Ashley first sings the Nine Inch Nails song - the shallow pop tune distracts us from the lyrics. The plot is actually typical Black Mirror material and if you think about it, it's pretty dark too. Deliberately inducing a chemical coma to trap a person inside her body to harvest ideas from her brain... it could have been part of Black Museum, if there weren't the Disney style execution.
The main reason this episode flopped in every aspect was due to the disney movie-esc plot and characters. Never had the enemy been so clear to me in a film ever, it was like the episode was holding my hand and directing me to hate the comically evil Aunty character. There was no element of "Oh hey human abuse of technology is the reason this happened" throughout the entire episode in the same way we see in others. Hope next season isn't nearly as bad.
I was starting to watch Balck Mirror a few weeks ago. Through this, i´ve found your channel und your videos. After every episode i´ve watched, i came here to watch your Analysis. It gave me a new perspective and sometimes filled in the gaps i wasn´t able to get when watching the episodes myself. It was allways something i´ve looked foward to. Some kind of "after show " video. Keep up the good work, and greetings from Germany :)
i liked the episode, i feel alot of people are judging it on: oh miley cyrus is in it. one start and there are issues like you mention in the vid. i dont take imdb and rotten tomatoes to seriously as an "critic" platform.
I think the ridiculousness of the 'rescue' scene was literally just to fit with the theme of the whole celebrity-that-is-popular-with-kids-idfk-black-mirror-I-believed-in-you
Having just binge watched this whole show over the past few days. I actually really enjoyed this episode. The argument that it is a happy ending is ridiculous when half of the episodes have a positive ending... part of the point of this episode is that entertainers feel trapped or type cast and the natural human desire to try new things. Black Mirror has made me laugh, cry, smile, bury my head in diguist and most importantly reflect. No episode is perfect due to the nature of the show but this episode felt like a fun optimistic epilogue to a more or less bleak look at our own futures.
I honestly found this episode super enjoyable lol. It took me a second to get used to seeing Miley in Black Mirror but I think she did great. It’s definitely the most (only?) kid-friendly episode, it almost reminded me of the Josie and the Pussycats movie. I’m glad it exists and I love the NIN appreciation Appropriate that it reminds people of the Disney channel movies of my childhood because Miley Cyrus was basically Disney property when she was younger
3:54 in - just realised that the background is 'Sugar Ape', the magazine that the character Nathan Barley produced. Brooker wrote 'Nathan Barley' along with Chris Morris: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Barley
When you boil Striking Vipers down it's basically some guy enjoying having sex with a female computer character. He's not gay, that's shown later on, so the fact his friend is 'inside' is irrelevant.
@@steved8193 It's more about porn addiction and how the two guys aren't able to function sexually in real life because of their addiction. And how technology is evolving to where we have VR porn right now and how people prefer that than real sex because they can furfill their sexual fantasy.
Although I'm not a Miley fan by any stretch of the imagination, she did well here. I've given this episode some thought. After she's drugged, this is all playing out in her head. The cuts to Jack and Rachel are for the audience. Ashley is living out her fantasy in her dreams. It would explain why a security who never let two young girls into the house just does so. Why the bed has "just in case" restraints. Why Ashley Too tries to kill her instead of blasting the information out on the internet. In fact, the last scene and credit sequence points this out. The cop doesn't continue to try and arrest them. Her aunt only says fuck. Then the credits singing a new song with her new "friend". She's never left her coma.
It all took a left turn when the girls tried to save Ashley. I think the stories should've stayed separate and the girls should've ended up in a more messed up situation because of the doll. I thought the focus of the episode would be the doll negatively influencing Rachel as the dance scene began to imply but no the message was lost in an odd family friendly adventure mess. Shame because the episode could easily have been amazing even if they went with the predictable option! Edit: I did enjoy myself but yeah could've been SOOO much better!!!!!
Couldn’t help but think that when they’re extracting the music from her head, it would have been hilarious if you cut that scene from Doctor Who where Daleks say “Speech is not necessary, Daleks will extract brainwaves”
I already thought the second half of the episode was Disney-esque. And then you further confirmed in my mind that this might as well BE a Disney Channel movie, considering it has the same logic as one.
i believe that she was just trying to get her sister like her again after she hid her doll from her which caused them to have an argument , she wasn't okay with but she loves her sister and she decided to help her to show her that she is really concerned about her
Honestly I liked the episode even though it was a cookie cutter of an episode. Like this story has been told before and was mostly are made by teenagers trying to rebel and fight the system and are constantly stopped and/imprisoned till the get out. But I liked the ending, you see her #1 fan sees her idol on stage but isn’t happy. When I sees her face as she looks away I can imagine her possibly wanting everything to go back. And possibly wishing she never woke her up.
When my friend and I were discussing what this episode may be about before it came out, I had said that I hoped it would be something akin to Poppy from UA-cam
I wanted the story to focus on Rachel, a painfully shy girl who idolizes Ashley O. The story would end with Rachel becoming a celebrity at school for saving Ashley O, finally realizing she is a worthwhile person as she is.
I love this episode. Not sure I need to explain myself. I identified, as an aspiring songwriter, to Miley Cyrus’ character, and I understood the worries the episode brings to light about the way managers and agencies control artists.
Y’all saying it doesn’t feel like black mirror, but fail to realize that black mirror is going to get boring if it always shows the same moods; like, even ‘smithereens’ felt repetitive of ‘shut up and dance’. Y’all are so toxic and make the series really one dimensional
Man, who doesn't like the stereotype of the single father that doesn't understand his children and ultimately fails as a parent? I want to see that stereotype in every show. Such good content..
People missed how in actuality it’s one of the most meta episodes of black mirror yet. Do you realize how many people treated Ashley O as of she were a real person let alone a popstar? Check the views on YT if you don’t believe me. It’s a commentary on how even when being blatantly shown the lie there exists a demographic who will except and desire it. #ImOnARoll>HeadLikeAHole
The episode was metacommentary on the production of this very season, Netflix wanting black mirror to appeal to a wider audience for the toddlers and the tween girls. the evil aunt was the embodiment of profit hungry corporations at first glance you can guess it is an obvious allegory of the whole Disney channel vs. Hannah montana forever debacle which gave us the ¨can't be tamed¨ and later wild tongue sticking Wrecking ball Miley, but it's also a critique on the production of Netflix's Bandersnatch. Miley's highschool angsty screamo and how they turned NIN's head like a hole into a tweeny boop is just what they did to Black mirror this last season.
I have theories. The last season gave us black museum, which confirmed the shared universe. Maybe that’s fully appropriate this episode, we have to consider what other tech may be in the background. The fact that all of the Ashley two models being destroyed with what seems like cookie technology (cookies end up gaining human rights later on in the BM universe) that’s terrifying. The line looking directly into the camera at the end makes me thing that perhaps the social ranking system we see in Nosedive has been implemented to some extent, and she’s saying “you know what, I’m gonna show the world what I think if my niece, and I dont care anymore” there’s a scene where her Aunt is in the bathroom reciting her speech and smiling, VERY similarly to Lacie in nosedive. This may also explain why Ashley never swears or is herself on camera- why would she risk exposing her aunt, when it may damage her social score. I also think that the pills Ashley is given may be a form of compliance, which is the drink people are given in one million merits (I think that’s the episode) to keep them from acting out when they go on stage. Some of these theories might be easy to disprove, because I havent seen the entire series as a whole in a while, but they’re interesting to think about. I definitely at least think that the horror of the cookies that were all replicated and destroyed is greatly understated in the episode. Maybe if the story had been told differently, they could have made it much much scarier.
I liked this episode, but I loved the second half when the robot's filter got switched off. I spend the second half dreading what I expected to be a very dark typical black mirror ending but it just didn't happen and I loved it! Dark themes of course were present, but really the episode was a show of both the light and dark side of technology. Black mirror would easily be one of my favourite shows if every season was like season 5, not leaving you with a awful feeling at the end while still having deep dark but not too dark themes
I am very surprised that soo many people didnt realise that the ad that was played in the episode 'The Entire History of You' was also played in this episode. Which is odd since those two episodes have obvious tecnhological advancement differences. Would love to hear why u think they did this

Striking Vipers undermined itself with an epilogue in my opinion.
I’ve heard someone once say “black mirror is like a box of chocolates, and they’re all dark chocolate.”
This one is just milk chocolate haha, I dont mind the show experimenting with some “lighter” “bubblier” stories
@@devonmunn5728 that bit seemed a bit cut short, yeah. it left me wanting to know what her excuse was meant to be.
I feel like there usually isnt many unexplained plot holes in black mirror, but this one had so many
Ironically I thought that Miley was the best part of the episode
There was 2 stories being half told rather than one being told well
Exactly. I really enjoyed when it was about Rachel and Miley Cyrus just being the background
"I would've gotten away with it too, if it wasnt for those meddling kinda and that pop star"
Nah I think you're trying to hard to see as intentionaly bad, the characterisation on this show is pretty bad and based off of tropes normally.
@@gevoian yeah i was worried that the audience would laugh at her and i would havw cringed hard if that happened but thank lord it didn't
@@cawmusic i know. Teens with self esteems issues (which i have had some issues in how i see myself) will tend to overexaggerate stuff but i think it more so annoyed me cause i have seen "character gets massively embarrased" scene done a thousand times already
This episode probably used the word "fuck" several times as much as all the other Black Mirror episodes combined lol
Sadly black mirror season 5 overall does not match the quality of episodes previous to it, hopefully season 6 they can bounce back
Super0JET0 when will six Season be
I liked season 5
The biggest problem with the episode is the ending was unambiguously happy.
Black Mirror is about warnings of using/abusing technology. Every episode doesn't have to be an bleak emo slugfest.
@@migukmoonpark4312 True, there are happy endings in other episodes also.
Thanks for answering my one question about this episode:
What was with the fucking cat??
That's because it wasn't life-support, it was a machine to keep her sedated and in a coma-like state.
I find it funny how Netflix described the girl getting embarrassed as her life falling apart like she's max Payne or a child soldier
Sorry but On A Roll popped off!
My main problem with this episode is that it had no real focus. What was the message in the end? Don't put pop stars in comas because social robots with their personality will rescue them with children in tow?
ULOIRAR I don’t think there was a “message” but more of an insight to the music industry and Miley’s personal experience
@@faithshakira Still, not exactly Black Mirror material.
Message: “Living a life of fame sounds nice, but you have to sell your identity, your soul. You’re better off as your true self, that’s where true happiness lies.”
People just didn’t like it because they hate Miley or have a very weird view of what Black Mirror is supposed to be.
I liked how Thafnine described it as a Disney Channel Original Movie.
ashley passed out for 6 month and able to walk right away
This episode should have focused on the creation of digital persons of musicians. This would lead to an everlasting character that could be used to push agendas and be eternally popular. It could also look at the mass production of cookies (which I feel was massively overlooked in the episode).
Can you do the - inside no9: the devil of christmas??? Please.
They are using holographic singers of dead already..more about the rights of the artist
In another universe, Ashley O plays Hannah Montana instead of Miley Cyrus. One Hannah Montana episode even has a phone named "O phone."
It’s not that I hate this episode, it’s that it’s just a Disney Channel movie with cursing
harry is just too much of a charlie brooker stan to dislike a black mirror episode
I thought that a Black Mirror episode worst than Waldo Moment wasn't possible.
This episode proved me WRONG.
John Carpenter that episode was good what are you taking abiut
I think it was planned as a classic Disney show parody but...
I thought the two girls were gonna get done for murder after Ashley Too unplugged Ashley.
That would be a black mirror episode...
I think the ridiculousness of the 'rescue' scene was literally just to fit with the theme of the whole celebrity-that-is-popular-with-kids-idfk-black-mirror-I-believed-in-you
Unpopular opinion but I actually really liked this episode
It was my favorite episode because it was so different from the rest of the series and a worthwhile risk, because for me it totally worked.
Rachael, Jack, and Ashley too is the best Disney Channel Original Movie to feature a man getting shocked to death by a tiny robotic mouse
Jem and the holograms reimagined
I feel like it was supposed to be like a children's movie, almost like Disney
Hell yeah I just watched this yesterday! I've been so excited for this to comeout! Hell yeah!
Bethany Pirie I love that you said Hell Yeah twice
IMO This episode was better than the other 2
Having just binge watched this whole show over the past few days.
I’m glad it exists and I love the NIN appreciation
Appropriate that it reminds people of the Disney channel movies of my childhood because Miley Cyrus was basically Disney property when she was younger
3:54 in - just realised that the background is 'Sugar Ape', the magazine that the character Nathan Barley produced. Brooker wrote 'Nathan Barley' along with Chris Morris: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Barley
All because the mouse was named Harry.
I loved it. It's weird, funny, awkward, strange, positive, good villain, happy ending. I don't understand what's not to like about it.
babe, wake up. There's new Black Mirror episodes to review.
There was also a connection between both episodes, “Be right Back, and Ashley too, in reference of the attic scenes!
This was an ok episode, better than Striking Vipers that's for sure.
What didn't you like about striking vipers?
When you boil Striking Vipers down it's basically some guy enjoying having sex with a female computer character. He's not gay, that's shown later on, so the fact his friend is 'inside' is irrelevant.
@@DTaze the writing.
SV was much more intriguing this was fluffy, straight forward bullshit.
Now that a Black-mirror-worthy episode!
I actually loved this episode!
Can we get a black mirror tier list
I already thought the second half of the episode was Disney-esque.
And then you further confirmed in my mind that this might as well BE a Disney Channel movie, considering it has the same logic as one.
I fucking loved almost everything about this episode and I don't know why.
Same dude
Ender Shard yeah it was my favorite of this season with a bullet
i believe that she was just trying to get her sister like her again after she hid her doll from her which caused them to have an argument , she wasn't okay with but she loves her sister and she decided to help her to show her that she is really concerned about her
Honestly I liked the episode even though it was a cookie cutter of an episode. And possibly wishing she never woke her up.
on a roll is an absolute TUNE
What's exactly here to analyse lol
When my friend and I were discussing what this episode may be about before it came out, I had said that I hoped it would be something akin to Poppy from UA-cam
I wanted the story to focus on Rachel, a painfully shy girl who idolizes Ashley O. The story would end with Rachel becoming a celebrity at school for saving Ashley O, finally realizing she is a worthwhile person as she is.
Yeah, this episode wasn't the best, but fuck me if it wasn't leagues better than Striking Vipers... (Also loved the King's Speech reference.)
this whole episode felt like a disney channel movie
I too hate the whole "single fathers are useless bumbling idiots" cliche.
The sarcasm is real
People missed how in actuality it’s one of the most meta episodes of black mirror yet. Do you realize how many people treated Ashley O as of she were a real person let alone a popstar? Check the views on YT if you don’t believe me. It’s a commentary on how even when being blatantly shown the lie there exists a demographic who will except and desire it. #ImOnARoll>HeadLikeAHole
Season 5 did it''s job perfectly, which was to make season 4 look amazing!
So, only 3 episodes? The crew became complacent.
This is the exact plot of the Britney Spears South Park episode
Felt like i was watching one of those goosebumps episodes it was just to child friendly for black mirror
It should have ended when Ashely was trapped in Ashley 2 hearing about her coma and freaking out
I have theories.
The soundbyte at 14:26 is great. I also couldn't havw been more pissed at that decision like the hell am I 👀 watching??
I think the coma was a refrence to Brain dead music
no
The Black Mirror is what Superman looked into and in the reflection was Clark Kent that's when his identity was exposed.
this wasn’t a great episode but I’m On a Roll absolutely SLAPS
I liked this episode, but I loved the second half when the robot's filter got switched off.
I spend the second half dreading what I expected to be a very dark typical black mirror ending but it just didn't happen and I loved it!
Dark themes of course were present, but really the episode was a show of both the light and dark side of technology.
Black mirror would easily be one of my favourite shows if every season was like season 5, not leaving you with a awful feeling at the end while still having deep dark but not too dark themes
"Also, why did the little mousy had to be called HARRY!" lmao
If it was a short-film adaption of The Downward Spiral (in a sense) it would've been fucking majestic.
I am very surprised that soo many people didnt realise that the ad that was played in the episode 'The Entire History of You' was also played in this episode. Which is odd since those two episodes have obvious tecnhological advancement differences. Would love to hear why u think they did this
