With episodes like Loch Henry and Demon 79, that aren’t as technology focused, I still love how they focus on human ethics and that kind of vibe, and they were definitely my favourites of season 6, I just wish they had established less technology based episodes in seasons prior so they didn’t feel as out of place
Yes, I agree! Black Mirror is anyway heavily inspired by The Twilight Zone so they could’ve leaned into the fantasy/weird things happening elements earlier
Fun list! Black Mirror creator recently commented how the audience was misled about the series being about "technology". He said that has never been the case and it is about people, and how horrible they can be.
Totally about humanity and its flaws, using mostly technology to show these flaws. People think its about how awful technology is and not humans. It's the same with religion. Everyone likes to blame religion but really humans exploit it like they do technology
I would say Loch Henry is a black mirror episode even though it didn't use technology in it, it's relevant to our modern day technology in the true crime podcasts we listen to and tv/movies being done about serial killers. We exploit the families and friends of the victims by using the story of the killers for entertainment. That's what I got from the last 10 minutes of Loch Henry. Our consumption of these stories in technology. But I agree with where you put it because it wasn't that great of an episode.
That’s exactly right. I was not on the same page of PossessedByHorror at ALL for this season. I thought Loch Henry was terrific and Beyond the Sea was shiny garbage.
The reason why episodes like Demon 79 and Mazey day dont feel like black mirror is because they were originally made for a spin off series called "red mirror" where it was supposed to be more horror/supernatural based episodes
I agree it would fit better in another show but I can admire that Charlie Brooker took a risk he knew wouldn't pay off for everyone. He basically said this season is a soft reboot of the series
Shut Up and Dance is one of my favourite episodes of television period but it took me so long to rewatch it again because it genuinely would not leave my mind because of how disturbed I was from the ending

Black museum and shut up and dance are in a league of their own and easily deserve their own tier. I wish they made movies out of both of the concepts 😭
White Bear has stuck with me for a long time. It’s one of those episodes that left me not knowing even how to feel. Obviously I won’t spoil anything because the twist in it honestly is crucial to the whole experience of watching it, but the last few minutes are quite horrifying.
Playtest is "one of the fun ones that's not too messed up" - understatement of the year for me lol that one traumatized me because losing my memories is my biggest fear
Honestly i think playtest is the most disturbing/horrifying episode ever. I literally had nightmares over that one. It was sad and just made my head hurt
I thought for sure you would have liked Loch Henry, because of it's critique of the state of true crime. San Junipero is hands down my fave, I was bawling at the end of it and I rarely cry when watching stuff but it’s also not distressing at all so the rewatchability is high for me. I also really like twist endings where I can’t guess what happens, White Bear and Black Museum. I liked Demon 79, it’s my favourite of the new season, although I think they could’ve leaned even heavier into the 70’s exploitation film style they had going for a bit. I think Black Mirror could branch out more to fantasy type episodes like it, it still had the dystopian elements.

Demon 79 isn't supposed to be a Black Mirror episode. i'd argue playtest is up there with one of the more disturbing black mirror episodes. They mess with his trauma and fears; the main one being getting dementia like his dad so towards the end when he forgets his own name and who he is is honestly horrifying. Then when you think he got through it and made it home only to realise that was all in his head too is so fucked up. I thought this episode would be her favourite as it has more horror elements.

I don't understand how you can criticize some of the episodes for not really being Black Mirror episodes because there's no technology featured but then rank Mazey Day so high. Where's the new technology featured in Mazey Day? How is that episode Black Mirror-esque in your mind when Demon 79 isn't?
I don't mind the episodes that aren't very "Black Mirror". I loved Loch Henry because it felt like I was watching a regular horror movie, and I enjoyed Demon 79 so much! But you're definitely right about the lack of technological advances that make Black Mirror episodes what they are. I also LOVE that aspects of various episodes end up throughout the entire series (such as songs, names of businesses, etc).
Bit confused about why Demon 79 and Lock Henry were ranked low because they didn't "feel like Black Mirror", but Mazey Day was high? There wasn't any new tech in that one either?
It's so fascinating when I see people rank Black Mirror episodes because the order is so VASTLY different from person to person and every single time I'm like "REALLY???? You put THAT one there???" i was also baffled that you said you heard other people liked episodes that I had seen were not that popular! This time I was baffled at your placement of the Ashley O episode because you are the first person I have ever seen who thought it was good! I can't judge, I really like some of the ones nobody likes and will stand by them.
I knew your ranking was gonna be top tier when I seen Fifteen Million Merits at the top! Absolutely it’s so underrated I think a lot of people miss the point with this one and it’s arguably the most accurate mirror of society today. It actually inspired my university dissertation, so much to pick apart!
Personally i loved loch Henry, its comments on true crime genre and how sometime it goes too far, the impacts (even though the it didn't spend too much time on it)
it's one of the ones I find myself rewatching the most. Great structure, mystery, payoff, and horror. I love how disturbing it is without feeling like it's simply done for shock value (the latter is how I feel about Shut Up And Dance, an episode I don't like nearly as much as other people seem to)
i think i liked demon 79 so much because it really screamed pink floyd’s two suns in the sunset. really abnormal longing-for-something-more sadness that is extremely possible (nuclear war) and tying it in with a demonic entity made it a little lighthearted compared to if it was just straight up the end of the world
Romance author here. Romance has a format and structure just like any other genre, so simply having romantic elements here and there doesn’t make something “romance.” The only episodes in Black Mirror I’d categorize as romance are, ironically, Hang the DJ and San Junipero! So it’s cool and interesting that you enjoyed those. They follow the formula for the romance genre to a T and are actually about two people falling in love who will presumably end up together. Everyone’s tastes are different so what’s considered “romantic” will vary, but romance itself as a genre is just as fleshed out and structured as any other. We even have sub genres like sci fi romance, historical, supernatural, etc. 😊 When it’s done well, you don’t feel hyper aware of what genre it belongs to; you just get lost in the story.
Most of your favourites are my absolute favourites too! But I love the waldo moment and Rachel, Jack & Ashley too would be way at the bottom for me. Also I didn't LOVE metalhead but I think it was definitely effective and the ending was very good and it was very black mirror in my opinion
completely disagree with most of your takes, but that exactly why I follow you and why I'm such a big fan of your movie recommendations! in my opinion watching content by people with different taste who share their views really politely (like you) is a really fun experience. ps, I've been waiting for this video since season 6 came out! :)
Fr! I didn’t mind the supernatural twist, it made it interesting within the show as a hole! Maybe it was the idea that the only tech involved was the cameras? Maybe it wasn’t enough idk 😮
I’m obsessed with White Christmas. I watched it like a month ago for the first time and I still think about it regularly. I haven’t watched San Junipero yet though, so White Christmas can still be beaten! I’ve watched season 1 when it first came out and I didn’t like it. Then I watched CS Callister and I hated it so much that I didn’t check out any other episodes for YEARS. But after watching White Christamas I was like okay, I think I’m obsessed now 😅 I don’t usually rewatch films/series but this one I definitely will! It blew my mind. Can’t wait to watch San Junipero and Black Museum!
I’m glad you chose to do this ranking in a tier list because I love tier lists. And your tier lists are amazing and always fun to watch. This is a good tier list. I love Black Mirror it has so many good episodes

Hi Sarah! If you get the opportunity to see 'While we watched' plz do. Its about the fear, horror and journey of Indian journalists who questions the government. It tells the current state of the biggest democracy in the world, India. You will not regret the watch ❤🇮🇳❤️ Sending love from India!
One thing about Be Right Back that makes it more interesting is that she isn’t bringing him back from the dead she is bring back his online self. He is a version of himself only collected from his social media and internet life. It shows that your online self isn’t actually you. At least that’s what I took from it. It’s one of my favorite episodes.
Loch Henry is one my favorites ❤. I thought it was very thrilling and I love spooky old-vhs vibes. It's meant to be a media commentary episode. Black Mirror is tech AND media commentary (the very first episode!!...and some others too).
Notable differences in my personal Black Mirror Tier List: - "White Bear" lower. Its concept is similar to "Shut Up and Dance" in the sense that it's a story about the punishment of a terrible person but we only discover at the end of the episode the scope of it all. While "White Bear" wasn't bad, I feel like "Shut Up and Dance" was executed way better. - "The Entire History of You" higher. It was a solid episode to me, not top tier but defninitely very well written. - Season 5: Wow, just... wow :) You rated "Striking Vipers" and "Rachel, Jack & Ashley Too" high and "Smithereens" low. I feeld the exact opposite. "Smithereens" felt so real to me. Andrew Scott's performance was awesome. My top 3 are probably: "White Christmas", "Nosedive" and "USS Callister".
Demon 79 is supposed to be the intro to Red Mirror, the Black Mirror supernatural style stuff, according to the internet. I guess we will see. I would enjoy a red mirror parallel. I think it's my favourite episode so far tbh
For me, the best episodes were Black Museum, White Christmas, Hang the DJ, Playtest and Men against Fire by a landslide. Not only the ideas were great, just like in most episodes of Black Mirror, but also the execution was well done, which cannot be said about many other episodes. Often times I was like: What a great idea. But then I ended up being disappointed by the story itself, which is really important to sell the concept behind the episodes.
Demon 79 was actually supposed to be an episode of “Red Mirror” which was going to be a sibling to Black Mirror, but replacing tech with the supernatural. That explains why it’s not a “Black Mirror” feeling episode. Red Mirror can still be in the works after the wonderful reception of D79. If you rewatch the opening sequence on D79 it says it’s “A Red Mirror production”, which signifies it will not be a normal Black Mirror episode. Not everyone will know that going in, but they are probably using that to ease us into the idea. Mazey Day is speculated to be another scrapped Red Mirror episode.

I don't understand how you can criticize some of the episodes for not really being Black Mirror episodes because there's no technology featured but then rank Mazey Day so high. Where's the new technology featured in Mazey Day? How is that episode Black Mirror-esque in your mind when Demon 79 isn't?
There’s something about White Bear that’s stuck with me for years.
15 million merits is the best episode by a long way!!!!
the entire history of you is my favorite
Love black mirror so much. My fav is definitely San Junipero 😊 Nosedive is a very close second.
Personally i loved loch Henry, its comments on true crime genre and how sometime it goes too far, the impacts (even though the it didn't spend too much time on it)
Calling Playtest more lighthearted is crazy 😂 but respect your opinions as always 💕 I agreed with most of your rankings
Hated In The Nation is my all time fave 😂 love this teir list and I love seeing everyone else's thoughts on these!
it's one of the ones I find myself rewatching the most. Great structure, mystery, payoff, and horror. I love how disturbing it is without feeling like it's simply done for shock value (the latter is how I feel about Shut Up And Dance, an episode I don't like nearly as much as other people seem to)
San Junipero is probably the greatest single episode of a TV show ever!! It's sooooo good
Favorite Top 5: Joan is Awful, Black Museum, National Anthem, White Bear, White Christmas
Least Top 3: Beyond the Sea, Striking Viper, Arkangel
fun fact : the lead actor from "Play Test" is Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell's son ..
i think i liked demon 79 so much because it really screamed pink floyd’s two suns in the sunset. really abnormal longing-for-something-more sadness that is extremely possible (nuclear war) and tying it in with a demonic entity made it a little lighthearted compared to if it was just straight up the end of the world
shut up and dance is my favorite episode of the whole show so happy you ranked it high
omg i’m so excited for this. btw i miss your book videos!!
Yes!!! I always loved her book content!
The plot twist of crocodile was INSANE THOUGH. Surprised it’s low here
Romance author here. Romance has a format and structure just like any other genre, so simply having romantic elements here and there doesn’t make something “romance.”
The only episodes in Black Mirror I’d categorize as romance are, ironically, Hang the DJ and San Junipero!
When it’s done well, you don’t feel hyper aware of what genre it belongs to; you just get lost in the story.
Most of your favourites are my absolute favourites too! But I love the waldo moment and Rachel, Jack & Ashley too would be way at the bottom for me. Also I didn't LOVE metalhead but I think it was definitely effective and the ending was very good and it was very black mirror in my opinion
Shut Up and Dance is INCREDIBLE.
The entire history of you is so good and very memorable. It was unique and original.
completely disagree with most of your takes, but that exactly why I follow you and why I'm such a big fan of your movie recommendations! in my opinion watching content by people with different taste who share their views really politely (like you) is a really fun experience. ps, I've been waiting for this video since season 6 came out! :)
Honestly I’m just glad somebody else also likes Mazey Day. I see why a lot of people might have their issues with it but I liked it quite a bit
I liked Mazey Day and was obsessed with the song from the hit and run scene. 😊
Fr! I didn’t mind the supernatural twist, it made it interesting within the show as a hole! Maybe it was the idea that the only tech involved was the cameras? Maybe it wasn’t enough idk 😮
the ending shot is amazing.. so bleak!
black museum is my absolute favourite ! also loved beyond the sea, white Christmas, white bear and shut up and dance
You described these so perfectly without giving them away!
You hands down need to experience the twists and turns blindly to fully enjoy them!
25:54 the creator said it was a “red mirror” episode. Red Mirror is their supernatural sister series
They do actually say that demon 79 is RED mirror, so that people wouldn’t be as annoyed that it doesn’t have technology.
I love the green eyeshadow ✨
You ranked all of my favorites really low, which is a bummer!
I have never seen an episode of Black Mirror so this is all new to me. Good ranking and cool video Sarah!👉😃👈
Beyond the sea is hands down my all-time favourite Black Mirror episode. The story, the acting!! absolutely amazing 😃🔥
Let's GOOOO! I was hoping you'd do a tier list like this for Black Mirror! You have my top two exactly.
The Entire History of You must be personal to you. There’s no way that should be at the bottom lol
I’m honestly obsessed with your channel!
Hated in the Nation being that low makes my heart hurt omg that episode literally had me so floored 😫
Your least rank episode about seeing your past memories is something I wish I could do so that's the only thing I like it.
I’m glad you chose to do this ranking in a tier list because I love tier lists. And your tier lists are amazing and always fun to watch. This is a good tier list. I love Black Mirror it has so many good episodes
I really like mazey day too! So glad to see others here who enjoyed it as well. I also really liked that they had that supermassive black hole twilight song in that episode as well 😂
your rankings are so freaking good with white bear, beyond the sea, shut up and dance, & nosedive on top those are my favorite 4 episodes
i really liked how the new season was more sci fi and less "technology bad" it was my favorite so far
What a great idea for a video! I love your tier lists. The saw traps was also a great watch!
my favs are hated in the nation, san junipero, but i literally love all of them so much. my favourite show.
Hi Sarah! If you get the opportunity to see 'While we watched' plz do. Its about the fear, horror and journey of Indian journalists who questions the government. It tells the current state of the biggest democracy in the world, India. You will not regret the watch ❤🇮🇳❤️
Sending love from India!
22:09 i don't think black mirror is about that 😅
One thing about Be Right Back that makes it more interesting is that she isn’t bringing him back from the dead she is bring back his online self. He is a version of himself only collected from his social media and internet life. It shows that your online self isn’t actually you. At least that’s what I took from it. It’s one of my favorite episodes.
It’s also the most critically acclaimed episode of the show! I think it’s a bit slow but very powerful, and i will definitely rewatch it sometime.
i love the green eye shadow
15 million credits is the best Black Mirror episode hands-down. It's miles ahead of the next best, whatever that might be, maybe San Junipero
Loch Henry is one my favorites ❤. I thought it was very thrilling and I love spooky old-vhs vibes. It's meant to be a media commentary episode. Black Mirror is tech AND media commentary (the very first episode!!...and some others too).
Hated in the Nation is the best episode by far idc
playtest is my favorite episode but AHHHHHHHHH i love where you ranked it
Notable differences in my personal Black Mirror Tier List:
- "White Bear" lower.
Your top 3 are spot on.
this is what we've been waiting forrrr
I agree with you… Beyond the sea was my favorite episode of season six. The ending had me sitting in silence!
you have the right opinion on 15 million merits
nosebleed is my FAV!
nosebleed 😭
