My house has about a 3 foot or less vent to the exterior wall and it would be easier to clean it myself rather than hire a company. But in other neighborhoods, like the one he is in, most homes are built the same and require almost the same maintenance.
It makes sense to start a business based on how homes are built and what needs to be maintained/fixed regularly.

I cleaned mine out by hand a few weeks ago. It was only a few feet long, but man now I want one of those drill attachments! It works like a dream now, I can dry a load of towels in one cycle. I'm pretty stoked about it. Shit, I must be old now.

cleaned mine out when dryer wasnt working.cant believe how much crap was in there
Edit: many people let that stuff buildup in there. It makes the dryer work harder, causing undue stress on the parts. And waaaaay to many people are overusing fabric softener, for crying out loud, please stop using so much. That's why your clothes take so long to dry. I run my clothes on medium heat level for 45 min on my cheap dryer and they come out dry, towels and all.
When I moved into my apartment, I asked them to clean it out, they bs'ed me and said I couldn't do it myself, so I climbed up on the roof and did it anyways. When they confronted me, I told them I can call the fire Marshall and get an inspection for their fire extinguishers, and to see if their smoke alarms are up to code. They left me alone after that.

Nice job from outside. Very important to wear a respirator when dealing with the amount of bird residue that would be in there- birds carry serious disease - especially psiticossis. If you use a critter proof (snakes like to get in there also), cover and use your leaf blower (take outside cover off to let lint blow out), from the inside once or twice a year depending on how much you use your dryer you will never have a problem.

Did this years ago in Vancouver. Set up 4 leaf blowers. Used the 220 from dryer and wired so that the blowers had enough amps. This was great for blowing water out of long run ducts in condos. We could blow the nests 30 ft out from the building. Used a 3/8 snake wire in a 1/2 air Line in
stead of the rods. Always replaced the flex duct with Ridgid. We found 1 in 60 did not actually make it to the exterior of the building in the condos.
This guy is doing a great job!!

This is a good thing to do! Too bad your not in Wyoming. You sure make it look easy.
One of the things I didn’t realize is that a lot of dryers aren’t designed for a long run and have to be cautious of the elevation too. owners manual specs out how many feet and elbows. If long run like that it should be hard pipe not flexible pipe. Only learned this from the home were in. The builder installed flexible foil type ducting and just left it lay over the trusses. Hired a professional and they installed hard pipe with it insulated and a slight slope.

Good video! Incredible how much crap came out of that pipe! That crap of course significantly reduced the clothes dryer's efficiency but even more importantly is cleaning the vent removed the possibility of the dryer element burning out because of overheating (& the further threat of a fire hazard). I know from experience, because that happened to me. A very expensive lesson to get the dryer repaired but at least we did not have a fire in the vent pipe.

  • @paulcallicoat7597

Dryers cause over 6k fires a year in the US and a leading cause of housefires according to Consumer Reports.
You should clean inside of your dryer.Use an appliance brush inside the pipe coming out the back or side of the dryer, vacuum it out.Take out the whole screen bracket (usually held in with 2 screws) brush and
vacuum where it mounts and remount it.I have to take out the filter to do it on most dryers. It has a sensor wire but Ieave it attached and put it out of the way inside the dryer. Its a small inconvenience but if you get a fire it just might be the end of your home and you as well.

Do you all need to go inside the house to unclog the other side of the vent?

We not if we can prove through air flow the clog has been removed - if we cannot verify this then yes

You said something about another vent cover that's better than the one you are cleaning. It was garbled a bit so please just type the name in reply. I live in the midlands of SC. I have called several cleaning services, but no one does dryer vent services. So I am doing my own. Thanks

I do a lot of these. I always recommend a reroute through the roof. Actually sold a couple last week. I would also like to note that cleaning a vent with the dryer attached is risky. I always unhook the dryer and attach an electric leaf blower to the vent. It aids in the cleaning significantly.

What rods are you using? Do they lock in place? I see many putting electrical tape on each connection but you dont. Do you have a different set up? Thanks

I use the same workflow but after the brush I use a leaf blower from the dryer wall outlet inside the house. This blows remaining material out through the vent to the outdoors. You’ll just have to pull the dryer away from the wall of course and wrap a towel around the leaf blower tip for a snug fit and less blow back. Time consuming yeah, but it’s done right.

Can I suggest that when the guys are doing this type of work, is to spray the stuff with water or some kind liquid, before removing big chunks dust and dirt with their hands. It will tone down on the
amount of dust flying in the air.
I have done this when sweeping a garage floor.
The water helps absorbs the dust from flying in the air.
At least give it a try, can't hurt, and will keep the dust from getting into your lungs.

How often are you supposed to get this service

    • @fvue7663
      @fvue7663 3 роки тому

Depends on how often your dryer gets used and how long the duct is. If you've never done it before chances are that it's long over due. I'd say at least once every year.
