I saw Luther and this group of background singers live in Miami, FL in the late 80's/early 90's timeframe.

Paulette McWilliams doesn't get the credit she deserves. She is the echoled voice behind Luther's. She has the rich contralto voice similar to his. She sits in the pit.

This is all live, no gimmicks. Luther was the real deal....no auto tune in sight. I love it. I come from the best generation. He sounds just as good live as he does on his recording.

It was absolutely amazing - plus it was just before they had to turn down the master volume at the venue from noise complaints - It was like luther was singing in your ear when you closed your eyes - I saw him four times. A time in my life I will never forget,and!!!!! they very reason I got into music so many years ago.

I saw Luther at the FRONT ROW THEATER in the round in Cleveland, Ohio. BEST CONCERT I EVER SAW!!! . Luther truly had a gift and that was never more obvious than when you saw him live. He sounded every bit as good and even better than the recordings,
Luther made it very clear when he would comment during the show that there were NO computers or voice enhancers to convey his music. Everything was real and LIVE.
I will say that I am truly blessed to have seen him in my lifetime before he passed away and fortunate that he left a catalog of incredible music to cherish now and for generations to come.
I was at the last 2 shows at the front row....both were Luther......left me speechless then ...and still....unbelievable
And, he did all this with a cold...
a master class in live performance. this entire concert is legendary.

Luther Vandross was one of my favorite crooners of all time. He had the uncanny ability to stop you in your tracks on a rainy day to listen to his mystical magical rhythmic melodies. And the irony is that you were perfectly satisfied to remain where you were though getting soak and wet for fear of missing those transmissions of well being. Speaking metaphorically yet with an audience who watches a troubadour in perfect synchronization of performance, vocalization, and showmanship, I say with all sincerity that you can never have to much of Any Love or Luther Vandross. You feel me?

I got the opportunity to see Luther Vandross perform in Barbados 🇧🇧. It was magical. It was one of the greatest joys 😊 of my lifetime.
The Velvet voice is gone but there’s so many videos of him singing well I’m glad we have them such a beautiful voice

There were a lot of them fifty years ago. It's a supply that's been diminishing ever since.
And, to think, he was suffering from a cold when he recorded this. He was supposed to hit a high note coming out of the bridge, and he didn't. He let his accompanying singers bail him out...

Welcome to my world. I was born in 1963 and apparently was much aware of my surroundings. I remember Dion Warwich's song "A house is not home". When I heard Luther's version many years later it floored me. Now I know why. These were the song lyrics blasting ears before I was 4 years old. I can tell this those little infinks LOL they hear and see everything, they may not know what to make of it yet, but it will stay with them for life.

I had to laugh when you said that. I was an 80’s kid and not being able to understand the words to songs is so bizarre to me. As a matter of fact there was a running joke from comedians back in the day about not being able to understand Anita Baker when she sang.
I’ve said it 5 million times in my 32 years and I’ll say it another 10 million before I go… This man was not only sheer PERFECTION AND GENIUS VOCALY HIMSELF, but he had the BEST BACKGROUND VOCALISTS/SANGERS EVER! His live performances need to be studied as a master class for all singers bc he was and is still UNNMATCHED! And can’t nobody tell me differently! I’m SO heartbroken to have never gotten the chance to see him in person live before he was taken too soon!
Luther surprised Teena Marie at her concert in 1985.. She was so shocked he grabbed her and lifted her up!!!! He danced while she sung I Need Your Lovin!! It was so cool! I hope they both are singing up above!!! RIP LV and TM!!!
