- Dom Foulsham is pitching his product, Digi Media Bank but he struggles to explain what his product does, which leaves the Dragons' frustrated. He's seeking an investment of £175,000 for an unspecified amount of his company, Brand Theory.
Season 2, Episode 3
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.
#DragonsDen #BusinessPitch
Strangest episode; dead hampsters, dog collars, insomnia, bananas, guided missiles, and STILL no one knows what it does or why.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I am still confused 😂
its better with a flow signal
It collects seaweed
And he's still out of breath
Poor guy had to carry that thing up stairs, unpack it and then immediately deliver a pitch. He was breathless 😂
And didn't even turn it on 😂
And they always make the pauses look longer than they actually were by cutting between shots.
WOW those dragins are shallow little children being so rude and abusive no need to act like that!
Isn't there an elevator there? LOL. I'm assuming he was running late and that's why his presentation wasn't set up in advanced. One of the cringiest pitches I've ever seen lol.
@@nissan_skylinefirst season people had to lug their stuff up the stairs. 2nd season they just had to walk themselves. Wasn't till later seasons they started with the elevator
Ah, the blissful "stair" days. When entrepreneur didn't know who the dragons were and the show's budget for writing puns was scarce

Let me explain his pitch... He is selling something that has to do with a computer, and on the computer stuff happens.
he used the word storing something too. Also sold 5 maybe 6 units. 🤔 I can't stop laughing. I thought I was bad a presenting but wow. not a clue what he was talking about.
Am I missing something? A box that holds documents, media, photos etc is a computer.
Welcome to the club.. We have no clue either.. 🙋🏼♀️
he's invented the computer
It's a file and streaming server. It needs a bit more hardware and software, but even back then, there were a lot of companies providing anything from a tiny box like his to huge racks that can take multiple media streams, encode them and send it with whatever other files to 100+ computers with direct, encrypted connections.
Aside from maybe providing tech support to local companies, his system has 0 things going for it.
So, what is it then?
He's reinvented a wheel. How nice. 😊
Doug giving examples of what answers to his question might contain murdered me 💀
I'm sorry to hear that
Doug was actually a highlight of the earlier episodes.
2:36 - Hearing Duncan absolutely howling with laughter is amazing 🤣
I like to imagine it was the narrator in the distance
He literally just brought in a PC and monitor with a belt around it
you clearly have never worked in IT, its a media box, it can be used to call on any type of media in an instant and it really does solve the octopus syndrome.
Tell me more about this belt.
@@brendanobrien8693 It's very... belty. Well, obviously. Clearly. Bear with me a minute. Oh yep - it's a belt. One of five or six, maybe a half dozen.
Yes, but the belt is its USP.
I have been a software engineer for the last 20 years and I'm still in the dark!!!
It's a cloud storage solution. Terrible explanation...
So it’s basically a black box and they have written some software that produces a flow signal. It mirrors traffic.
You're thinking of Rory. This guy is just a humble seaweed hunter.
@@TheEsotericProgrammer You're thinking of Jude Camplin. This guy is championing women to be hired in the construction industry.
It’s Amber in color
Rory likes it
The lady in control of the signals doesn’t like the idea.
“The wheels going around, the hamsters died a long time ago. I’m out” wise words from Theo 😂😂😂
The only thing that could have gone worse for him would have been tripping down the stairs on the way out. Poor bloke!
Underrated comment 😂😂😂😂
LOL
Looooool😅
Now I'm just disappointed. This should've happened!! 😂🤣
He actually did, it was the first 5 or 6 steps
He just walked off casually when they all declared themselves out 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’m crying at this 😂😂😂
Not only that he didn't bother to tell them how much equity they would be getting for the 175k and even more interestingly, they didn't bother to ask! 🤣 Yeah, this was the ultimate flop. 🤦🏾♂️
You didn't hear the" F*** the lot of you?"
Even did not care to take his equipment with him, just left it there.
And looked back at the computer sitting on the floor for some reason..
I'd be terrified if this guy was in charge of guiding a missile.
Let's hope he worked for the Russians.
It's ok. He wasn't guiding the missiles. He was only making the things that other people used to guide the missiles.
Oh.
I'd be terrified if this guy was in charge of turning on a calculator.
"We've sold five or six systems."
"Well is it five or six?"
"It's around half a dozen."
😂😂😂
lmao
It's 5 +/- 1 standard deviation

Well, 5 or 6 is a very big number, may be he couldn't remember!
@@basilbrush7878 6 +/- 1 standard deviation. Around half a dozen.
@@sherryxia8362 ahh yes, but what's your confidence level?
the dragons used to show their true colours on the older episodes.
They were copying Simone cowell. It was the formula at the time
They were just testing him and doing their job lmao
@@caitlinlindsay8418it’s patronising and condescending, no need for that whatever your job
I feel like this is basically what I would be like if I ever went on this show. 🤣
true
It's a content storage system and the idea was fairly popular in the early noughties. I was offered work with a couple of these companies at the time and I remember thinking the whole idea was nuts. Some mutated into video delivery systems with varied bandwidths. They all died over the next 5 years.
Where did it store data? Locally? Or did it upload to a server?
This aired in 2007, after the iphone was revealed, well into laptop era
@@mada1241 absolutely bonkers that he would think a computer in a case was better than a laptop.
Anyone at the time would think it could be huge in fairness
@@Annieareyouokayshamone how? He's just put a computer in a suitcase?

He is just an unfit slob.
"I'm suffering being here." Jesus Christ leave the man his soul
This pitch is a good example of why the people pitching usually have their stuff set up before they get in front of the dragons, cause they'll forget to even turn on the thing they're showing them.
This show has the worst production in TV history.
Worldwide.
@@DavidMartins1 Lol you haven't seen Shark Tank then
This is from season 2, where they were made to set up their gear while the Dragons sat and waited. Soon after this, they moved to setting up before the Dragons come on set.
I still don't know what his product does. Is it like PowerPoint? Meaning, is it intended to design presentations, with the unique selling point being that it can work with a wide range of media types like videos, documents, etc? This might be the first pitch I've seen where I was left confused about what the product actually does. Even the Flow Signal was more adequately explained than this guy's product.
I think it's like the cloud but early 2000s version aka a suitcase you have wheel round
I think it was basically a portable media storage device that you could put all your data, photos, videos, presentations onto and them recall any of the data when ever you needed it with any device available at the time. In other words it is the non internet version of today's cloud storage.
I think it’s a banana
@@EricsBarberStudio seems legit
It would probably help if he’d turned the computer on
Attach a flow signal and it's a different story
😂
You'll see this in your eye 👁
The best
The flow signals a genius invention
This guy was so nervous I thought he was gonna pass out, he was totally unprepared for this.
Nervous - nothing to do w unprepared
Dude was both nervous and probably close to collapsing from having to hieve that thing up all those stairs literal seconds before the pitch.
This gentleman's nervousness is palpable! I empathize with him!
A bit like the bloke that claims to have invented the 'video door bell'. Didn't invent the door, didn't invent doors or door bells, didn't invent cameras, didn't invent the internet.........just took a bunch of existing things and made something that wasn't really an invention??
I don’t
He was shite…I don’t emphasise with him at all
Guy climbs short set of stairs:
🥵🥵🥵
Typical programmer body type lol
Suprised he knew what his own name was without explaining where it originated from
Lol
@Travel Crawl I thought the same thing, if this was like WordPress he could have made millions issue is he very poorly executed his presentation. He didn't even explain what his issue is.
so he's literally just selling a Windows XP computer
'The wheels going round the hamster died long ago, I'm out'
LMFAOOOO
All he had to do was demonstrate the product working
He nearly killed himself just getting up the stairs.
The system looked very hi tech with the belt strap
I feel so bad for the nerve-wracked presenters. I’ve been doing standup for years. This guy should have practiced his pitch in front of some friends a few times. If he’d have faced the dragons, paused and took a deep breath before starting his pitch he would have at least been able to explain it. Instead he became a breathless, stuttering trainwreck. Most painful pitch I’ve seen on this show.
the stairs & lugging the bag got to him.
I have no sympathy - they're asking for a LOT of money from people! Do your homework, know your numbers and be honest. If you can't even memorise an elevator pitch, get out of business.
@@b-dogs1038 Yeah, he was woefully unprepared, but dude was on the verge of collapse when he had to start the pitch immediately after having to lift that thing up all those stairs.
Dom "Bear with me a moment" Foulsham
Dom 'Now a millionaire after founding a media company' Foulsham
“Dom sorry mate what do you actually do, what do you do what is it” LMAO Theo🤣, then man like Duncan on his insomnia 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣 and then Peter jones on his dogs collar LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL then forgets to plug it in and then causally walks away in disgust 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
To be fair, by the state of him by that point, if he hadn't walked away, he'd have fallen over.
CarDoctor : call someone with a multimedia PC from 1995 because it can do all that.
The way Doug said "here are the types of answers you might contemplate" is actually really helpful for a lot of people who are having trouble explaining something, because having an idea of what the expected result might be can help to frame the question
When he said "Octopus Syndrome" I literally burst out laughing 🐙
Dragons missed out on this one, Dom sold all his units to Albania and told them it was too track missiles, tanks, etc. Instead he just played random videos on it. Guy is a genius, he made around 6.7bn Albania Lira
I cant tell if this is a joke or not
@@dadestor i really hope it’s true. Would give all entreprenuers hope
The Albanian have a “lek” and not the lira bro
@@HezyTech Ir's true, but Albanian lira are only worth 0.000000000000001 British pounds.
He was out of breath from those stairs
I always wonder if they agree that whatever they bring in there just isn't their property anymore or if they come back later and get it or if a crew gathers up their stuff and brings it out to them or how that works.
The blood bank guy that turned up for the inflateable jacket pitch must be upset he had no motorcycle afterwards 🤣
Well the director says cut and staff clean the set up and probably take the pitchers stuff downstairs for them to take
A shame I couldn’t be there, unfortunately I was out.
I can't blame you Jenny because I too don't know what this man was talking about.
I think I got it: this is a black box that does stuff but it's unique selling point is that it doesn't guide missiles
After he said he sold 5 of them and Duncan started talking I just went into an uncontrolled fit of laughter. This happens to be the last of 65 videos in a playlist, so whoever put this list together definitely saved the best for last!
Now I know the inspiration for Harry Enfield 's character in his and Paul Whitehouse's character in their spoof of the show.
Wow this is one of the first bad pitches Ive seen on this show and they can be brutal. So used to seeing everyone else.
First few seasons were lethal, least charismatic dragons too. Doug is just horrible to see and listen to
Love how music kept playing waiting for him to unpack. This guy seems to be the Harry Enfield template.
Savage burn. This episode and the ludicrous inspector cluso required pitch just cracked me up.
Back in the days they had to carry all their stuff up the stairs. Pitchers with less healthy conditions had a tough time. Good thing they have the elevator now.
I hate to be the one to have to tell you this, but the lift is fake 😔 i know, i know - it really breaks the immersion, but its just a lil room with doors on each side!
Buuuut they still dont have to walk up those friggen stairs and thats what counts 😆😆
The elevator was specifically built for Jenny so she could easily get OUT
When Duncan gave that rude 'out' speech Dom should have replied; I'm sorry Duncan, I didn't understand a word you just said!
Listening to this guy makes me feel like I'm back in a computer science class, disparate tech terms and by the end I still don't know what we're even talking about.
Poor guy really messed up... but we all mess up at some point. And our failures can later lead us to success. I hope he found success with 'the product' (whatever it is) or elsewhere in his career.
I’ve never seen a more brutal dissection than that
Boy am so glad they got rid of those stairs 😂
ya
Thank god they have the elevator now. The man was WINDED
I like dragons den but I hate it when they berate someone..he's obviously not a public speaker but give him a break
Exactly this. Someone's inability to speak in front of people doesn't give you the right to be rude and condescending.
I saw more criticism in his explanation and his product - I sympathise with the fact that he’s not a good public speaker, but if I was a Dragon I’d expect some form structure from the pitch: he was all over the place.
I dont think public speaking was his issue... also I have seen pitchers who were terrified and couldn't give a coherent pitch. This dude was out of breath from lugging that suitcase up those stairs😳
he didn't go there to garner sympathy, he went there to convince them to give money to him. looney liberals... if he wants sympathy, he should probably talk to his friends or family.
He's asking them for a lot of money; making a decent attempt at the presentation is the least he could do.
Duncan didn’t hold back 😂😂😂
Is this like an archaic version of cloud storage?
The thumbnail looks like entrepreneur just challenged Theo to the most epic of epic Pokémon duels and Theo is like “what does this have to do with a pitch?”
Watched the full 9+ minutes. So can someone tell me what he was pitching?!
This is the type of guy to create a revelutionary robot indestinquishable from a person bring into the den and forget to tell people its a robot
I remember in 2000/2001 Napster, downloading music going to school with my mini disc, I mean....Although this episode is old, it isn't a trailblazing idea, we aren't seeing the hints of an Iphone etc, also back then it was 56kpbs dialup a media box wouldn't be good.
"The wheels goes around, the hamster died s log time ago" :) hahahaha. The BEST
All of the dragons competing over who can be the nastiest? Feels forced and slightly uncomfortable?
Back then they were all trying to be the Simon Cowell of the show. Peter won.
Peter was so unnecessary rude and obnoxious in these vintage Dragon Den series 😵
And yet his comments were some of the kinder ones compared to those of Theo's, Duncan's and Doug's, at least imo
I don’t agree. These people are wasting valuable time.
Goodness they were savage on anyone daring to be nervous back then
Daring? Ever heard of a laptop? Better yet, the iphone. This aired in 2007
@@mada1241 I meant him being nervous specifically, was using the term 'daring' ironically to convey that people shouldn't be criticised like that based on being nervous. But yeah blimey, I feel old knowing this was FIFTEEN YEARS AGO, damn

Sometimes, things are badly explained [repeatedly] because someone is trying to pull the wool over your eyes. The product was weak and he knew it
It’s not easy not being able to explain what you’ve created.
He didn’t create anything
Particularly so when you need to very cautiously not give away that its junk.
Ilija Petkovski
Especially, when he didn't know himself!
@mikeyswift2010 He did. He created confusion.
Duncan looked disgusted right from the get go , or maybe they just edit in the same look over and over.
Imagine if this was fitted with a flow signal to show if data was going in or out.
You can see this is very very old...
Because saying "Writing a software is easy, anyone could do it, there is no added value in your product" is beyond wrong. So many apps today, only based on software, made millions and millions of money.
They just didn't see it coming all these years ago. They thought that the only thing that was valuable in a computer was the hardware and didn't think the software behind would later become much more profitable.
Sure, the pitcher made a terrible job at convincing them but still, they did not even tried to listen. They thought they knew everything better than him
Or you could have just noticed he said without noticing all of that bollox that you have... he says It runs on windows XP
By the way he was bought out by Plex for 15 million, so wasn't to bad lol
"Don't speak, just listen to me"
"Sure"
Oh dear. This gave me second hand anxiety 😨
Doug seems to think that creativity begets good articulation but usually the opposite is true, creative minds quite commonly have scattered thoughts. It makes intuitive sense if you think about it; in order to be creative you need some sort of divergent thinking pattern, if your thoughts are scattered they are persistently divergent.
That being said, unless this guy failed to properly describe the advantages of his product (which seems entirely plausible), it did sound rather unspectacular.
The best thing for me was being interrupted by an advert after the second time he said bear with me!
1:50 That face has me dying. 💀
😂😂😂
Aww I feel bad for him 😔 he was soooo nervous, winded and hadn't even turned his computer on lol. Ouch
😂
He did alright in his career, I looked up his address and he is living on a road full of 2 and 3 million pound properties
Windows XP ?
This feels like an april fool's episode of Dragon's Den. We still have no idea what was presented at all.
I like when they used to make them climb a flight of stairs before they started.
Some say that Richards has a large album of wings he pulled off flies for fun and relaxation.
The only person he wasn’t nervous around was the host
Because he behaved like a human
is it a really heavy laptop?
He just reinvented the VHS player and now needs the cash for a Blockbuster chain
He could've outwitted the dragons by simply plugging the device and shown them how it works.
He looks like a magician.
This is a prime example of why having a good pitch is important
"So what is it exactly that you do?" ... "About half a dozen or could be five"
It looks a bit like the cameraphone that Bret had in that episode of Flight of the Conchords.
One of my favourite ones so far :D
Every time I heard his name, Dom, it constantly reminded me of the comedian Dom Joly and his wonderful show, Trigger Happy TV. With this Dom, it's more like Dragons Misery TV!
It made me cringe, it’s the only time I’ve heard the dragons say my name!
Doug once again proving that he is the best Dragon we ever had
So it's like a Dropbox account but instead of going to the website you use this computer with a leather belt around it?
This was like 2002, there was nothing even remotely close to Dropbox. Wifi had barely become a thing and it certainly wasn't fast enough to move significantly large data - it might take you a day to download a video! Your files needed to be brought around with you if you wanted to use them in meetings. There was no "cloud" to store data.
@@Howlox no I know I'm just trying to understand what it is. Is that close? Like a Dropbox terminal?
@@otomostubeofficial2697 Well, everyone in the comments is struggling to figure exactly what it is that he's trying to sell haha, but yes, I think it is essentially a storage device, but he's added a bit of software so that you can view all file types with ease.
Nowadays that's not an issue, because we have different apps that will open the file depending on what it is. But I'm guessing back then there was an issue of playing videos on one device, playing music on another device, Powerpoints on another, etc. etc. And I think he was trying to solve that issue? But like everyone else I'm not entirely sure.
@@Howlox I think a big part is the physical terminal too. It's a desktop with a leather belt around it and some papers in front of it. No idea what I'm looking at.
