Mr. Jamie White is an example of what type is needed to take care of things when it goes side ways. He said, he didn't turn anyone away that came in to help. What do you have and told them what was needed they could do and sent them to take care of it. No bs, no red tape, no ego power trips, just happy to have the help and got the ish done. I cannot tell you how much it hurt to have people drive by to quawk and take pictures of my whole life's memories spread across my lawn.😢 Please be respectful and compassionate to those that have lost so much!💔
I have to somewhat disagree with you. I'm not saying people should go there to gawk or sightsee, but if it weren't for independent UA-camrs going in and filming and interviewing people in these difficult to reach areas, we wouldn't know about any of it because the MSM has moved onto election BS
@@KaileyB616 Yes, but a lot of them were also volunteering during their time there. A large swath of channels I’ve seen that are nowhere near being large influencers were documenting and interviewing … but also spending large chunks of their time there helping get donations to people, taking them to different areas for people, etc. (and getting video of things and interviewing on the side - it wasn’t their main focus). They weren’t just solely coming in to stand and record like some were doing. There’s ways to go about it, and unfortunately, some of them went about it all wrong. Yes, their videos were nice, but capitalizing on someone’s downfall shouldn’t be applauded just because they had shown what MSM didn’t when that was all they did. What a surreal time for the residents of this beautiful area. I lived through Hurricane Andrew in 1992 in Miami, FL. It was the first storm in decades to destroy a huge area of land. Most didn’t take it seriously and were not prepared, plus we were told it would be going further north. To our surprise, the eye came over our home. We had to take shelter in our hallway after loosing a window. We were lucky. Many of my friends in County Walk lost their entire homes and more than what was originally reported lost their lives. It would be months before we had any normalcy again, including sleeping with no electricity and windows and doors locked because of looting. City people aren’t country people. It became dog eat dog when supplies were scarce. My heart goes out to all going through this, especially for the ones who have lost everything including homes and loved ones. I woke up the night Helene was coming through with a feeling that I needed to pray. It’s like God was waking me to tell me to intercede for the people in that area. Don’t lose hope. You will all get through this with each other and with prayer 🙏🏼 ❤
Only until some one has experienced a home town catastrophe can they understand your nightmare. I am glad you survived and thank you for your energy. I think of Hurricanes Andrew, Katrina, Hugo as well as events like the Cornwall flooding, Tsunami Fukoshima, China 2023, Pakistan and Lebanon flooding, Himalayan landslides, the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, the Camp fires, Lahaina, Paradise and on and on. Living through this gives me a much deeper perspective I lacked despite having all the empathy for those people.

After having lived through a flood back in '96 and dealing with FEMA and the process of rebuilding, I would caution people to spend just enough to make your home livable. Here is why. We received flood insurance proceeds that weren't enough to rebuild to the same quality pre-flood, but fortunately had the means to cover the rest. About a year after rebuilding FEMA came and said that they were doing a buyout at pre-flood market value and that anyone who did NOT choose to take the buyout would no longer be eligible for flood insurance. If we had only known that that would happen we would have chosen the cheapest finishes possible to make the home livable until the buyout took place. But we were planning on staying for years and spent much more than was necessary to just make the home livable.
Wow, that's shady as hell. No one can convince me that they weren't already looking ahead, bc I've seen too many accounts of ppl that have been they disasters that day the same things about FEMA. Doing some in-depth research on FEMA and connections gives you a completely different perspective of what is happening.
@@cardiacjunkie They didn't need FEMA. They used ins. money plus their own to rebuild. Sounds like FEMA was there for those who needed it. These folks did not.

Grateful to all who chose to speak out and act in compassion and are helping.
Thank you for reporting all this. I have watched other videos of locals who have applied for FEMA help. They report that FEMA is offering pennies on the dollar for their losses.
FEMA can only offer grants and they are seldom big. They don't fund rebuilding of houses for people, that is the reason you have homeowners insurance. it sucks that the insurance companies are not covering things, that maybe they should. I hear its insane in FL right now, insurance wise A good place for government oversight: watch the insurance companies. Is there even such a thing as landslide coverage?

I had contact with people in Turkey 🇹🇷 right after their earthquake and I had tell them THEY ARE THE FIRST RESPONDERS. It takes time for outside help to get to them. We knew from the outside how cut off they were, but they didn't know that. I said check yourself for injuries, get help if you need it. If you're okay, look around and help someone else if they need it.
People who want to help across the nation! Places like Lowe’s have hundreds and hundreds of generators and propane stoves and more to help people get through the winter. Been following from the UK, my heart goes out to everyone affected; but there are so many people out there seemingly getting off on 'helping' people, but also spreading even to me, blatantly obvious misinformation. But when you rock up with a generator and supplies, of course you're going to listen...
I have never understood & never will understand insurance companies. They take your money but don't want to pay for anything, it's crazy to me. I hope ppl don't forget about this. It's going to be a very long time before things even resemble a normal life for them. Glad to hear you have plenty of supplies, that's awesome. Anyway thanks for sharing the truth on what is happening or has happened. It's hard to know what is true & what isn't nowadays. It's 😢 but it's the way it is especially with social media.
Insurances should have the obligation to assure you a shelter in any case from the moment you pay them every month !! It's crazy how it works nowadays.
The insurance inspector came to our house on Monday to inform me that the basement wall that had collapsed wouldn't be covered in any way. Thanks for nothing, State Farm. Fema is scheduled to come on Saturday, so fingers crossed.
@@Vaughn0560 that doesn't surprise me. They find any loophole they can so they don't have to pay anything. I look at it this way if you are paying every month they should have to pay for whatever you need. It's not our fault something happens but they don't care. They need to do something different with insurance. I don't know what but something different needs to be done for ppl that have a natural disaster like hurricane helene. Nobody expected it to happen so you have ppl that had insurance but they might as well not bc they won't cover a flood. WTH is up with that??! It is crazy! Anyway rant over, 😂 I hope FEMA can do something, anything to help you out. Good luck!!!
@@creuvette29 yep I agree with that too they should. They find any loophole they can so they don't have to pay. It's not right. I am going to steal a line my Great Great aunt always says, "we don't get paid to think"
I had a branch come down on my roof once, no damage, but i needed a tree company to take the branch off (it was a tree in and of itself) . an insurance rep drove by and said they didn't want to pay because the wood from the branch was left on the ground....uhm. we have a woodstove. we burn wood. we asked them to leave it....the insurance company did pay, but seriously, it wasn't even that big a claim. The only one we have ever made, and our insurance just keeps going up and up.
This video seems like a down to earth honest info. Did anyone "see" dead bodies? I was really glad to honest info about FEMA. Thank you. I am an Asheville/Woodfin resident.
thank you for your comment. I'm sure first responders (I heard from others) did see bodies while doing recovery work and not only them. Our plumber said yesterday they were hiring ppl for $40/hour to clean up reservoir from debris and...there were bodies💔 in there too and it was too much for some of those people to take. I can't blame them. Yesterday the officials in Yancey county said there were 10 deaths and 2 or 3 that are still missing. And Yancey county was one of the hardest hit counties.
You won’t be over the impact because winter is coming. Once again, Mother Nature is carrying on. Those in tents may have to brave the winter there. Sleeping bags are great but cots to keep people off the cold ground would be great too. My prayers are with all of you. Keep the community spirit. Your new normal is one foot in front of the other. Peace and strength.
Cots are in necessity For long-term winter camping in a tent, IMO. I have seen insulation suspended under the cot to make it warmer in winter. When you lay on your sleeping bag in a cot, your bodyweight compresses the insulation. If the insulation is below the cot, but attached to it, it doesn’t compress. Hope that makes sense. Best of luck to you. Definitely be careful with propane heaters putting out carbon monoxide. Don’t sleep with a buddy heater going in your tent.
I am grateful that the woman who has the show, changed her tune. The first video that I saw of hers made me so sad. She lacked so much compassion, for the other areas affected. It wasn’t a good message to send out!!
Thanks so much both/all of you for the pressing and demanding selfless work you are doing. Thanks for dispelling the misinformation regarding your recovery efforts.
Thank you 🙏 I believe all of Buncombe county has power and water, BUT water is not potable. Other parts of WNC are not as “lucky”. A part of Yancey county just got power. Idk about other counties.
The government doesn’t come in and buy up land. Private corporations do tho. Only situation would be eminent domain when it comes to taking land. Hearing so much misinformation after a natural disaster vilifying those who are trying to help is disturbing.
Whats sad is the number of people who still had mortgages and no insurance coverage, and now they have to figure out a way to build, and pay for their mortgage as well. 😢
Now I know why police are blocking access to the area to outsiders.....A. you're not helping anybody, just pissing them off further when they're already having a bad day.....and B. You don't have a legitimate reason to be there.....C. you're getting in the way if you are just a useless bump on a log there.
If there's no truth to the government not wanting to rebuild, why is there a recording of NC Governor actually stating that he's trying to convince Chimney Rock not to rebuild???
I didn’t see the video . Can you send? Also, and this maybe not be the same , but a lot of people are talking about how it’s a bad idea to build the road in the same place again. It follows the river and now became the river. Who knows
Thank you ver much tk the first responders whp checked on the people in their district. Im curious i did you get aid urgently to the ones that needed it?
I'm from Europe and booked a 2-night stay in Asheville several months ago as part of a trip to the US in mid-November. The hotel is in the River Arts district and I've got tickets to Biltmore, too. I wasn't able to get through to the hotel until last week. They said they're closed through October and are unsure about November because they don't know when water will be restored. Biltmore will be opening again on November 2 and will hopefully refund the tickets if the hotel has to cancel our reservation. However, if the hotel does have water by mid-November and the trip is technically possible, I feel guilty about going. Not sure what to do. The room I booked is non-refundable so I can't cancel without losing several hundred dollars.
Come. We need you. You will not be in the way by then. Not every town in the area was affected in the same way. My little town south of Asheville didn't even lose electricty.
Yeah insurance companies are pretty sad. So unfortunate that it's also required. You put in all this money and you get nothing in return except excuses and reasoning why they can't provide you with the funds that you've been putting into their company
Unfortunately many didn’t even have flood insurance bc most that got flooded weren’t in a flood zone. And there are other “bells and whistles” that you can add onto your policy and many didn’t bc there’s never been a risk for anything like that. So bad
@@livinginashevillenc But that's the whole excuse problem. There's no excuse for that. It should be that if you're going to have insurance it should blanket anything that may happen to your house not well I need insurance for this and insurance for that and insurance for things that I can't predict is going to happen. Then with weather starting to have issues like this where we're going to have more financial problems considering so much damage. Is it even feasible that insurance can cover anything if insurance was actually honest?

I couldn’t be more proud! My husband and I are coming that way( from California) to help! My husband has been a heavy equipment operator all his life and wants to help put the roads and water back! We love Fairview! Hope to meet you and shake your hand!
Have a safe and blessed trip there if driving. If flying I hope you get upgraded to first class. Thank you for helping the people and animals of Fairview out.
I know one lady who needs help fixing her roof and clearing some trails. She probably needs more than roof repair. She is counting her blessings rather than focusing on the grief. I hope you meet and can help Amy. She is very special to a great many of us who can't get there to help. Thank you again for what you will accomplish.
Let me know how the Kendall family is doing in Fairview. The father is from my hometown.Praying for everyone involved with all my heart.😢
Excellent interview. This guy needs a huge promotion. His expertise in operational management shines through.
It is true. We need financial help now. Our bills are still coming in and many of us haven’t been able to work with because it’s gone, closed, has no potable water etc. The roads are finally pretty clear and thankfully it’s been warm during the day but it’s not going to pay the bills 🙁. I hope folks from farther away don’t think it’s over here. It’s far from over. God bless us all in the coming months 🙏🏻

200 miles in 4 days???? That’s 50 miles a day. You must be a super hero. Thank you for your service
Alexsandr Sorokin ran 100 miles in under 11 hours so 200 miles in 4 days is doable. I'm not holding Jamie and his co worker to 200 in 4 days but they walked and found/met with ~300 people to make sure they were okay in 4 days!!!. Yes, they are superheroes and using their powers for good.

Others could learn a lot from this man and how things were handled in his community. Some are making it about issues it isn't.

You are so welcome!
About 35 years ago, I spent some time running around in western NC with an army buddy who lived in Cullowhee. We went around Sylva, Waynesville, Cherokee, Asheville and Franklin. My heart goes out to everyone suffering because of this.
🙏
As someone who lost everything in a tornado...DO NOT go there to sightsee! Go to volunteer! I cannot tell you how much it hurt to have people drive by to quawk and take pictures of my whole life's memories spread across my lawn.😢 Please be respectful and compassionate to those that have lost so much!💔
🙏😓
I have to somewhat disagree with you. I'm not saying people should go there to gawk or sightsee, but if it weren't for independent UA-camrs going in and filming and interviewing people in these difficult to reach areas, we wouldn't know about any of it because the MSM has moved onto election BS
Amen bless your heart prayers for you to
@@KaileyB616 Yes, but a lot of them were also volunteering during their time there.
People are calling out those types, and rightfully so …
there were people commenting about how the government cannot deny them the right to travel, and by travel, he meant driving. (talk about not getting the reality of the situation). It was so annoying.
This lady is so kind and i thank God for her.
Praying for each and everyone in Helena path.😢😢 it's so heart breaking

Asking for donations, sowing pictures of crew working.I just watched it tonight on a FB real.Scammers are in full force.
I just watched it tonight. I’ve been searching for truth on what’s happening, as maybe many are, so we will know what to do to truly help.
Thank you for clarifying the misinformation that is going around. We had the same situation up here in Avery County. It doesn't help the people who need help. God Bless the first responders in all of this WNC!! There has been so many people taking advantage of our situation in these mountains. Fraudsters follow disasters. Excellent interview and information. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your experience 💔 and your kind words

Why did they do a buyout? I'm confused why fema has a say about flood insurance?
@@luv2luv720 just a guess they did a buyout to help the people who had massive damage and inadequate insurance.
They have a huge Website you might want to look at

thank you for verifying that this is the real deal. you are right, too many angry people spreading fear and misinformation. I hope you and yours are all safe.
Thank you for the real information. Too many haters wanting to scream their negative politics because of this and other just jump on the bandwagon but never actually go find out what the government agencies can and cannot do. Grateful to all who chose to speak out and act in compassion and are helping.

Yes it is already cold at nights
Well done!
Thank you for addressing misinformation.
This is a good interview!!
I have so many wonderful memories of bat cave from my childhood. Camp mishemokwa throughout the 80’s. My heart was breaking listening to Jamie. I’d love to come help with my tractor and grapple but I don’t want to be in the way.

They need help in that warehouse (more in the description of this video) all the time

Jamie, thx for doing this interview, for everything you have done and are still doing.
People who want to help across the nation! Places like Lowe’s have hundreds and hundreds of generators and propane stoves and more to help people get through the winter. Buy those things and get them sent to firehouses in these areas. It’s going to be so COLD soon in the mountains where they won’t have power ALL WINTER.
Thank you for the informative video. I have been praying from day one for all of you because I😢 live in another state and I'm an older senior. I grew up in the upper part of South Carolina and my heart goes out to all of you and my prayers are going to continue always. God Comfort, bless, and Supply your needs❤🎉
Thank you for this realistic report, especially the firsthand knowledge of the firefighter. Both of you are excellent communicators and your perspectives seem right on and genuine. I have been wanting to come up to help but ultimately felt it was best to stay out of the way.
Heart breaking, i was in Asheville a few years ago 😢such a beautiful community ❤
Anyway rant over, 😂
I hope FEMA can do something, anything to help you out. Good luck!!!
@@creuvette29 yep I agree with that too they should. They find any loophole they can so they don't have to pay. It's not right. There should be a clause of some sort for a natural disaster like hurricane helene in places that don't flood normally but what do I know.
Here from Hendersonville, grew up in Lake Lure. This is incredible. The people here are unmatched across the States.

This is a great account, he's a hero. Thank you for sharing. The music you put behind his testimony is distracting and takes away from his story.
If people were too temporarily open up their homes to help people get back on their feet, is anybody willing to relocate?
You won’t be over the impact because winter is coming. Once again, Mother Nature is carrying on. Those in tents may have to brave the winter there. Sleeping bags are great but cots to keep people off the cold ground would be great too. My prayers are with all of you. Keep the community spirit. Your new normal is one foot in front of the other. Peace and strength.
I know it’s already been very cold and even snowy up in higher elevations 😓
Just curious, what video you talking about?
Thanks so much both/all of you for the pressing and demanding selfless work you are doing. Thanks for dispelling the misinformation regarding your recovery efforts.
Praying for all that was impacted by the hurricane Helene 🙇🤲
Can you update the situation regarding power and water?
I love you and your channel. Straight facts.love it.
Thank you 🙏
I believe all of Buncombe county has power and water, BUT water is not potable.
The Govenor is evil as hell it seems like theirs a lot of youtubers trying to cover for fema and the government
Exactly
I didn’t see the video . Can you send?
Also, and this maybe not be the same , but a lot of people are talking about how it’s a bad idea to build the road in the same place again. It follows the river and now became the river.
Who knows

Here's something to think about, governor cooper says chimney rock should not rebuild. So there's that
why does the governor say that? Its a pretty deep statement to make, there has to be a reason.
Go and help the economy of the region with tourism. Very important
@@NolocoLawrence Same bs excuses the guberment makes to not help. Why pay taxes and insurance at all???
@@soaring1 the guberment is who will pays for and repair your infrastructure. they are the ones that will provide the funds to recover and rebuild your community. the guberment is the ones that will be giving grants and low interest loans for the recovery and rebuilding of your community. the guberment is you. you vote for the people in your government in local, state, and national, elections. you get the government that you deserve because you voted them in. if you vote for 34 time felons, fraudsters, con men, sexual assaulters, and liars then you can expect a government that is going to reflect his character. if a man had that kind of resume was running for mayor or applying for a job would you hire him? when i was a kid( born in early 60's) very few people built or invested in coastal areas or place that tended to flood often for fear of losing everything. in 1969 the the US government started providing federal flood insurance. with it came development in these areas since some private investment could be recovered after a disaster. this has led to major development in areas that have a high risk of being destroyed. this is the reason your governor is trying to convince people to not rebuild in some of these areas because this may be repeated next year or 10 years from now. He like most people in this country hate to see this happen to people once, much less repeatedly. there is no great government conspiracy it is just common sense.
