I've been thru 3 floods living at coastal NC. You'd think rain water is clean but flood waters are nasty. What's left behind when the waters gone will cause serious infections if you scrape or cut yourself on anything that was underwater.
During the 3 floods , I never saw my neighbors house floating by , pontoon boats coming over a dams spillway or had to pull someones body from the water.
I'm really sorry to have seen what you good people have endured. I know what its like to lose a home.but the devastation there is like nothing Ive seen. God bless you all. I will keep all in my prayers.
NC loves you and wont forget you .

There's already a Vibrio outbreak in Florida.
I don't see how any of the waters could be safe for a very long time. At least 1000 are still missing, besides the hundreds of bodies they already pulled out. Wasnt just 200 either, the residents will tell you..Thousands of vehicles, oil & gas & freon, , those homes with their AC'S, cleaning products, paints, the business & factories. All that won't dissolve in a few months.

I have watched many interviews with flood victims. One elderly lady stood out. She indicated that the road beside her river was built entirely upon a foundation of mine tailings. The road and its foundation of mine tailings were completely destroyed along several stretches of the river (somewhere in the Nolichucky watershed). Mine tailings being placed next to a water way is very unusual. Frequently, strong chemical solutions are utilized in the seperation processes, and tailings are generally kept segregated for good reasons. All waterways, public water supplies, and all well water should be tested repeatedly for the next year.

    • @kowashy03
      @kowashy03 День тому +17

for the most part yes products from mines are separated with chemicals. in this case i think when she refers to mine tailings she is referring to large rock/boulder that wasnt ever subject to chemical flotation. i live in the area where there are tons of old mines from before chemical analysis. plenty of people use giant rocks, sand, gravel from the mines for all sorts of things, on their property, under the roads. youll find it everywhere. just rocks
edit: even the mines that did chemical separation there is thousands upon thousands of tons of rock left over that was never processed. just sitting there

We haven't even pulled all the dead bodies out of the water yet, and the Cadaver Dogs are dying from the toxicity of both the French Broad and the Nolichucky. They are so polluted with not only the coal tailings & septic, but the nuclear waste dump {there's a superfund site right on the river}no one seems to be talking about. The plastic plant, the mines, the asbestos from most of the older homes that washed away, and much more is never portrayed in this "PBS water report"... The State of NC is still saying under 200 people died, but we all know that's nowhere near accurate. Thankfully I'm at a very high elevation, and my well water and home are fine. We've got solar and have been preparing for years. However those at lower elevations are not. I didn't see anyone from a legacy Media News crew interview the folks who are living on their land in tents, to stop the thieves from stealing, or because they have nowhere else to go. Now, the State is removing children from what's left of their families and homes, if they don't have a 'modern house', and these kids are already traumatized. They need their family, Not a foster home. This is the worst disaster our State and Federal Government has ignored in my 67 years of life... I thought East Palestine OH & Lahaina Maui was bad, but this is much worse. Don't let PBS fool you...

Untold vehicles with gas, diesel and batteries, septic tanks, cemeteries, businesses producing chemicals, dead mammals, propane and the list goes on.
I don't hear many talking about the old Halliburton chemical place above swannanoa either. They left in the 1970s lots of open chemical pits. EPA finally cleaned it up in the late 80s I think and was declared super site because was in ground water for years.
Guess what? All those sealed chemical pits were washed away and it's hard telling what else was buried or sitting in these hollers.

In my humble opinion, it's war here too. It's not just in Ukraine, etc. I wish people could recognize what is really happening and going on here, there, and everywhere. It's war. This is war. It's just not like in the movies where bombs are dropping and missiles are flying. So, people can't see what is happening or recognize what this really is because it's a war like never before. This war is the whole world. And, this will be the last one in my opinion and according to the Bible. Jesus Christ is who is coming soon. The signs of HIS coming are everywhere. This is Biblical Prophecy Fulfillment unfolding right before our eyes. Now is the time to repent and turn away from any evil and surrender to God the Father. I'm not trying to push my beliefs onto anyone. But, it is my responsibility as a Christian to speak the truth. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. Blessings.... Praise God for His Mercy and Grace. If you're still alive, then there's still time to get right with the Creator of All of Creation..

7ft in 20mins … I can believe it considering how much rain that region got. I’ve seen creeks and rivers rise just as quick in one hour with only 2-3” of steady rain in that amount of time (enough to get in roadways, especially here in Appalachia where rain water is coming down off of mountains causing even more to fill up).
Now, imagine 20” inches OR MORE over a period constantly pouring down heavily in these mountainous areas. They didn’t expect this storm to just linger over these areas the way it did.
Puts things more into perspective on how and why leaving just wasn’t feasible for all the people who sit and act like “they should have just left! they put themselves in danger staying! hard to feel sorry for them when they ignored the warnings!” … which Sunday-morning quarterbacking is so easy to do with hindsight on how everything turned out, isn’t it? Easy to be perched high in an ivory tower looking down on people with the information we have now …
Usually the people that say that or continuously repeat it weeks after this disaster have never dealt with quick rising waters from a flood and it shows - you can’t _just leave_ when:
1 - the warnings never came until it was way too late
2 - that water rose so quickly that you’re better off just staying and trying to get to higher ground around you, if possible, due to roads being covered and bridges being washed away
3 - it’s more dangerous to be out on these roads with high waters rising, think of culverts that go under roadways, those fill up and water starts backing up on both sides of a road, and it’s going to put pressure on spots where the roads can sink/break away
4 - these people have been through floods before, they know where water usually gets up with a lot of rain and know how to prepare, but when it’s this much rain of biblical proportions? no amount of prep a few days in advance would have helped as this was historical for that area, no one knew it would get that bad as it is unlike anything they had ever been through before with floods
If anything, the people in ETN and WNC need to have constant news coverage put on and them pressure for them to continue to get help. The amount of citizens across the country that has no idea how bad things really were is honestly just sad. This wasn’t a typical flood from a hurricane storm. This was a whole new monster that has people still living in tents relying on the good will of citizens for help as the government just isn’t there … think of all these small rural towns that haven’t even been mentioned once. They can’t even get to them still. It’s downright shameful how people have just turned their backs away from this region when they need help the most. Seems typical for Appalachia, though … we’re the butt of everyone’s jokes and are easily passed over and ignored on the regular. No surprise when a historical disaster happens, the reality of it all is brushed under the rug to minimize it as much as possible - we’re just a bunch of uneducated rednecks/hillbillies that aren’t worth focusing on.

I live in Johnson City, Tn. Not far from some of the hard hit areas in Northeastern TN. My kids were out of school for a month after and the community has come together to help using schools as showering centers, food and hygiene distribution sites, water distribution and also provided homeless shelter to families left with no homes. Now it is cold and starting to snow. I can't imagine how the families are staying warm that are now living in tents where homes once stood. I hear about parents who have lost hope... committing suicide in the yard in front of their kids. Then there are young kids committing suicide too, lost without hope.... My heart breaks for our Appalachain families and the land that is forever changed. Driving to work that morning screaming while i had my husband on the phone keeping me calm bc the wind and rain was so crazy that i thought I was going to get flipped over completely and end up in the lake as I crossed the bridges. I made it to work and around 2 pm I heard someone comment about how beautiful the sky was bc the clouds had cleared and the sun was shining .... and I knew the worst was to come bc they did not realize we were in the eye of the storm and the worst was yet to come.

Shallow wells should be monitored. Deep wells not so much unless compromised. Also depends on the under surface geology. Here in Missouri we have cave systems that can take surface water underground and then pop back out miles away back to the surface in springs. If it is underground long enough and filtered enough it is fine but I lived on a spring where rain twenty five miles away would come out near me two days later. I never used that spring water for anything but showers. The slopes that the water entered were nearly all cattle pasture so E Coli was going into the caves and coming out in my spring. We knew all of this from dye tracing the waterway underground. Not all of the caves were even on the surface but crack in the limestone and sink holes were letting the surface water into the caves and running under a ridge to my area. Strange to not even have rain, sometimes sunny days, but over there would downpour and two days later our spring run would flood out of it's banks.

@markpashia7067 This is in the mountains, most wells are less than 200 feet deep, and are drawing off of water that's over 2,000 feet above sea level.

The technology was sold from a Govt Weather Agency to an “unknown” during the Clinton’s years. It’s activated by radars (airports, weather stations, military installations, etc). There are also CHEM TRAILS (aluminum, barium & other chemicals) sprayed in the air all over the U.S. ( believe TN has stepped up & banned). Farm animals are being affected horribly by it. Also kills trees from the top down.
