It always amazed me as a kid that the human drinks like water and lemonade healed more health than a dedicated healing item, and cost significantly less.
So, I want to suggest something: a comparison run with max stats on a Pidgey, with only its level-up moves. So what this run showed is that max stats on a Pokémon with a truly abysmal moveset is far superior to 0 stats on a Pokémon with a really phenomenal moveset. But I also think that this run doesn't really show just HOW busted max stats would normally be, purely because Weedle is the literal worst possible Pokémon that could potentially complete a run. It would basically be showing just how done dirty Weedle was to show just how much easier it would be with a Pokémon that has a generally bad moveset but still something that isn't outrageously handicapped like Weedle is. Why Pidgey? Because it learns no offensive moves that are not Normal or Flying, with the highest base power being 40 by level up. It would be an absolutely dreary Pokémon to ever attempt minimum battles with normally - but I bet that it would wreck EVERYTHING with max stats, far better than Weedle did. I propose Pidgey rather than something like Caterpie or Magikarp because they are literally impossible on solo runs due to being unable to hit ghosts (unless you did shenanigans with Magikarp), while Pidgey can if it reaches level 28 and learns Wing Attack (which it will do before Rival 4 if Weedle did, since Pidgey is in Medium Slow while Weedle is in Medium Fast). Essentially the idea would be, if Pidgey just utterly annihilates everything in front of it, then you can pretty much guarantee that any Pokémon with access to even one or two good moves or TMs would do as good or better. You basically wouldn't have to run any other Pokémon on it because it's more or less a guarantee that every other Pokémon is either outright impossible on minimum battles or would be even better via having better level-up moves or being able to learn any modestly useful TM.
I like the logic of this. I think there are a couple of cases to check though - Pidgey makes sense for one, but then a Pokemon like Rhyhorn would be another, just to see if the weaknesses to Ice, Water, and Grass prove to be too much in the late game.
Actually, I wonder what the best Pokemon would be with equalized stats. Crucial break points would probably mainly be a special attack (or at least something not resisted) before Brock, a good growth rate (unless those are standardized too), and general midgame options. Also, between stab body slam and psychic, being a normal or psychic type would be preferred.

20:00 Somehow that Weedle at level 29 has stats comparable to what fully evolved starters have at level 65 or 70, so yeah it's the stats that count sometimes!
The lesson I got here is: holy crud Poison sting is an awful move, especially in gen 1. If you had any other non-nornal move this may have been possible with minimum battles. Oh yeah, but also base stats matter a ton. More so than moveset.
Yeah, at extremes, I think Stats can really trump moves. And honestly just about anything is better than Poison Sting due to resistances - I'd rather have Leech Life
4:50 for those wondering, in Gen 1 if a damage calc comes back as a number less than 1 the move just misses. "But it failed!" This can also happen if they use defense curl too many times as well, plus Poison is a physical type in these games too.
I just really liked the Weedle supremacy despite its bad moves. Struggle put in some major work. Reminded me of Ditto runs that other Poke'Tubers have done in the past.
Yeah, I was more interested to see exactly how it would end up. Everyone has done Weedle runs before o. UA-cam, myself included, so it was interesting to see if even Perfect stats could overcome the massive walls like Giovanni 3 and Agatha.
Because of the way the damage formula works, you should be able to make equivalent pokemon according to their strongest move. Take 3794 and divide by the pokemon's strongest move's base power and you should get close enough. So theoretically, a weedle with Sludge but only 60 base attack should be close enough to equal with this one. Ignoring survivability and badge boosts.
This mainly seems to prove that struggle isn't that bad of a move. Try this with poison sting only, no struggles, and we'll see how far raw stats get you with a bad move.
If you ever do a tombstoner challenge: I think that should be the best possible move, that is, combining fissure with swift. So it's a one-hit-KO-move but it can't miss

to me, the worst part is him using the ethers, saving, and then just giving up on the battle. completely wasting them. and look at that, at the end of the game, when those items would be useable, he didnt have them. forcing him to use max ethers at the wrong time. its that and the "minimal battle" added with "i will just use these rare candies now, even though i know its the worst decision, just because lolz", that made this so hard to watch. its one thing to go unprepared to a challenge, its another to actively use the worst decision multiple times, KNOWING they are the worst decisions for no good reason.

I've got good news. There's no need to wonder where your god is...cause he's right here. And he's fresh out of PP.... Agatha: What is a god to a nonbeliever? ☠️☠️☠️
Nice couple of references, there :D While this weedle's wounds don't heal, I can still see Trainer Kirito finding a way to flex. "I do more damage to _myself_ than the six of you could ever _hope_ to do to me."
I wonder how Weedle would do if it had it's normal stats, but had access to butterfry's moveset. If it could use all the TMs butterfry can and the same HMs (excluding fly obviously). Weedle is so bad because it has to use the worst move in gen 1, not so much it's bad stats as has been demonstrated here.
Here's a challenge I recommend if you can pull it off with a backport: Shuckle only Squidgy managed to backport Shuckle into gen 1, and Curse is a TM in gen 1, so Shuckle might be able to beat the game by itself assuming it gets any moves that hit ghost type Pokemon, but Brock will be a nightmare! 😊😊😊
What I'm learning from this is that high stats seem to matter a lot defensively. It seems like the importance of offensive stats scale with how good your moves are. Godlike stats didn't seem to make a huge difference with poison sting, but with struggle it seemed to matter a lot more, but not as much as I really expected it to matter. Seems like with a good enough move after a certain point you'd just always one shot. Not sure what point that would be, though, and we aren't going to find out from this video. Seems like the biggest problem is that struggle's recoil does a percentage of your health, so it doesn't matter how high your stats are, you have a limited number of struggles before you lose.
Basically, yes. Offense is more about move power, whereas defense it more about stats overall. It's because on the damage calcs, the offensive stat is calculated as a ratio over the opponent's defensive stat, so unless the target has a really lower defensive stat, the value of the attacking stat isn't as important. the calc is (2*level* move power/5) *(attacking stat/defensive stats) * type effectiveness * critical, so there are lots of other factors that increase attack power beyond the attacking stat.
Well Magi Carp with 255 stats is MORE doable then Weedle since Poison sting does CRAP damage even though Magi Carp would be stuck with Tackle as its ONLY ATTACK move since Splash its only OTHER move does nothing at all and both Weedle and Magi Carp can't use ANY HM/TM's at all.
@@veghesther3204 its not, its literaly impossible to beat the game in gen 1 with a magicarp, even if it had stats in the thousands. it only has access to normal attacks, making it completely useless against the forced channelers in the ghost tower. dude isnt even able to beat more than half the game, that alone make it far less useable than weedle. by a LONG shot. even if poison sting is bad, its still a diferent type than normal. allowing it to bypass that.
Regulation Red, a hack of rb that lets you do a variety of challenges, has a code that forces you to play the game with just a regular weedle. You can only get up to celadon because of hms, but it's doable. Although, the hikers in rock tunnel are some of the most horrible fights imaginable, and I only got through them through sheer dumb luck.
is it possible to modify the game so that you get the starter at level 4 and then have a rare candy in your bag to level up with before the first fight so that your stats update correctly

I feel like a more optimized run definitely could have gotten a score above 90 with this scoring system. Not being able to remove paralysis definitely lowered things by the end too.
Yeah that was a mistake at the end, but honestly Lance and the Champion weren't much of an issue in the end. It was Agatha and Giovanni that really caused us trouble.
For sure, it would be pretty easy to do. Basic badge boosts are just a +12.5% modifier, bit that can become really good late even before we get into badge boost glitch
Yeah, it's extra latency from Nvidia Broadcast..... II would love to have a recording room in the future that is actually presentable in the background, but right now you would be seeing lots of baby stuff because Japanese apartments are tiny and my son needs his space lol
Giga chad Weedle got you to 10k subs, congratulations 🎉. Weedle finally could complete the game with a lot struggling and with some poison stings, and without back porting it's modern moveset. That goes to show that base stats ,even with the worst level up moveset, can take you pretty far. But it has it's limits while facing Brock, Giovanni, and Agatha, which made the balance between struggle and poison sting really hard to find. Basically,Giga chad Weedle needs the power of friendship and stat experience to get by stab psychic, and rock slide. I wonder how different it would be with bubble Magikarp?
Yep, it's an automatic overlay that I wrote the script for. Still takes a ton of troubleshooting for errors here and there, but basically automated at this point.
5:39 WOULD that help? IIRC, Brock has ten Full Heals (& no Potions?!) for some reason, & Poison only does 1/16th each turn in Gen 1, right? Anyway, neat analysis video! Thanks for uploading!
It would because 1) he can't attack the turn he uses a Full Heal, so that's another turn you get to damage him for free and 2) he only uses 5 Full Heals per Pokemon, so with the right luck you can get 6 Poisons early in the fight, and then have him take Poison damage as you whittle him down. That was my original strategy when I tested this, and I could get to the Onix about 1 in 10 attempts.
The live data feed is accessed directly through the rom by a software called Gamehook (which is no longer publicly available, but Scott's Thoughts recently released PokeByte, which basically does the same thing. This is a serious debate in which I think the opinion changes over time. 10-year-old me: Sabrina. 13 year-old me: Erika, 20 year-old me Lorelei, 35-year-old me: Sabrina or Lorelei depending on the day.
@riluna3695 "The only one who can beat me is ME." -Weedle, generation of miracles
58:23 so we beat the old lady with a level 69, that was rough lol hahaha duuuuude, think about all the MEMES, the MEMES
Yeah, we needed the PP Up on the old woman. I have the best commentary, and Pokemon is a literal goldmine
I know it's a pain to get a large number of them, but wouldn't Lemonades have been much more cost-efficient than Super Potions or even Hyper Potions?
Yeah, it was certainly a mistake on my part.
congrats on 10k subs
Thank you so much 😀
I think the problem is magnemite only, since magnemite is steel types.
Gen 1 my guy
@RBYPokemonChallenges sorry, idk type chart in gen 1 is different than now.
@@fajriboyzz5215 Just so you know, Steel type (along with Dark) was only introduced in Gen 2, so Gen 1 Magnemite is pure electric type.
I think it would benefit more from Beedrill's set - Swords Dance, Bug STAB, give it Kakuna's Harden and I think we're cooking.
It’s crazy how movepool is more important than stats you should do a comparison with an average weedle but he can use earthquake lol
Sounds like a fun challenge.
my boi made it to 10k subs :)
🎉
Here's a challenge I recommend if you can pull it off with a backport:
Shuckle only
Squidgy managed to backport Shuckle into gen 1, and Curse is a TM in gen 1, so Shuckle might be able to beat the game by itself assuming it gets any moves that hit ghost type Pokemon, but Brock will be a nightmare! 😊😊😊
Badge boost is gonna be crazy
IT would still SUCK and still possibly BE Impossible due to it ONLY having Poison sting as its ONLY attack which even with 255 stats is still CRAP.
There are worse ones out there. Quite a few, really
So because of all the math involved in the calculations, you named it after Gödel, impressive 😮
Clearly, I think of everything ahead of time lol
Doing some back-of-the-napkin maths, I don't think perfect DVs would have changed much for Godle42069 anyway... A difference of about 20 at level 70?
Yeah, it's exactly 21 points at level 70.
That sounds truly terrible 😂
is it possible to modify the game so that you get the starter at level 4 and then have a rare candy in your bag to level up with before the first fight so that your stats update correctly
Probably, yes
So Bill is confirmed as a wannabe Dragon Ball character, since he wanted to fuse with Sir Godle42069 so badly? The lore just keeps stacking.
He's always looking for a better Pokemon to combine with.
Bongzilla!!! Yes yes! God I miss the genius behind Bongzilla
Yeah, Jake McCauley is a legend in these parts
Now that was surprising to be honest. I like it
Glad to deliver a fun one for you!
Ive been wanting this challenge for a minute
Glad to provide
References to the GOAT, Bongzilla?
Automatic Like!
Gotta give flowers to the greats
I joined as a member right now as a gift to myself. 😊😊😊
Thank you and welcome!
@RBYPokemonChallenges welcome.
why do you play with animations on?
My visual impairment makes it easier for me to follow the action with animations, since reading text is difficult for me at a normal distance
Release the Shaggy Weedle
Lord bongzilla, when he tries
Yeah, I think Jake McCauley gave up and just evolved into a Beedrill on Giovanni iirc
This is a fun and silly idea - I love it! :)
Yay, thank you!
I'm here buddy! Also today is my 31st birthday! I will watch some of this, then go to sleep, because after my birthday, I travel 8 1/2 hours to my buddy in Ohio! 😊😊😊
Woah, happy birthday! Road tripping?
@@RBYPokemonChallenges yes buddy.
Super Saiyan Weedle
I feel like a more optimized run definitely could have gotten a score above 90 with this scoring system. Not being able to remove paralysis definitely lowered things by the end too.
Yeah that was a mistake at the end, but honestly Lance and the Champion weren't much of an issue in the end. It was Agatha and Giovanni that really caused us trouble.
I'd like to see a run showing the power of badge boots were a pokemon has no bage boosts and one that starts the game with them
For sure, it would be pretty easy to do. Basic badge boosts are just a +12.5% modifier, bit that can become really good late even before we get into badge boost glitch
i like how your camera is just slightly off sync with your voice XD
Bubblekarp would be a good follow-up for this
Bugcatcher's Weedle used harden after watching this video!
Legendary comment 😂
I feel so bad for whichever editor had to constantly keep up with all those stats and exp levels on those graphics on the side..
It automatically updates via software.
Yep, it's an automatic overlay that I wrote the script for. Still takes a ton of troubleshooting for errors here and there, but basically automated at this point.
23:15-23:20 yeah but you also have high defense too. 😊😊😊
@@RBYPokemonChallenges Nice! Thanks for the info!
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO!
Weegodle this in the bag.
Perfect!
Finally, my lore accurate self
You are the legend the anime always made you out to be!
Weedle if game freak knew what they were doing
What is that software called that keeps track of your pokemons and your opponents pokemons stats and updates them real time?
The live data feed is accessed directly through the rom by a software called Gamehook (which is no longer publicly available, but Scott's Thoughts recently released PokeByte, which basically does the same thing. As far as the actual data display, that is a custom application that I wrote to translate the raw data of the game and data from the PokeAPI. I haven't released my overlay application publicly at this point.
It's Great Value Scott's Thoughts
I'll tell Scotty about this comment, I'm sure he will laugh dryly for a minute
