God this is painful to watch. Not because the music is bad or the performance lacked. Quite the opposite. This takes me back to great days. Best days of my life. Shit happens and we take odd turns here and there and we end up in our fifties looking back wondering where it all went. If only we could go back and relive just one day from back then
The 12 inch has such a banging bass riff. Those were the days when I had a proper house and I could turn it up. Not like nowadays living in a crummy little flat where you can hear a spider fart next door.
Reading his Heady Daze book at the moment and Mr Hussey mentions this performance so had to seek out. It reall is as good as described. Rare to see TV studio performance this good.
The Bear in Bedford mentioned by Wayne before the start of Wasteland is still my watering hole, many of the fans and some of the original Eskimos in that audience are still my close friends to this day including the former pub landlord. Yesterday a few of us got together to see The Mission again live in Brighton and will do again during the 2022 tour. Very proud to say nothing has changed in over 35 years!
Better days for my favourite goths... the child of the sisters... 1988 was their 1969. Brixton Academy the day before a final exam. Home at 3.30 am exam at 9.00. Brilliant days...
Absolutely fucking awesome! i remember seeing this on the tube in the day and my brother and i were dancing in the front room. sister came in and laughed then saw Hussey and fell in love! Ha!
Conoci a The MISSION en la radio Rock&Pop de Argentina, decada de los 80 y siempre suspiro cuando los escucho. Que hermosa decada por Dios!! Saludos desde Argentina. I salute all the english speakers and fans of this great band💖
Three of their best songs. The full version of Shelter From The Storm has been uploaded separately. Saw them playing Leeds Elland Road as support to U2 in summer 1987, then twice at Newcastle City Hall in 1988. Brings back how good they were in the day...
The guitar work on this album inspired me and so many others. Not the virtuoso guitar style of so many rock bands from the era like Van Halen, White Snake, Bon Jovi, Scorpions, etc... Mission's guitars were meant to be played upon one another, layered and lush. A symphony of guitar coming at your ears. Other than the one vocal slip, this version of Wasteland sounds BETTER than the recording!
The Mission UK will always hold a special place in my heart. I saw them 2x back then, April 87 at The Ritz NYC on GOM and on Children too. Amazing band. I wish they'd come back to NYC (I saw the Irving Plaza show a few years ago and it was amazing).
you couldn't do that today. Thank fuck i grew up following bands when i did. Great gigs the mission always put on. Remember seeing them in Cardiff 1986? November? Don't think the sister's had been split up that long at the time. Possibly there first tour as the mission.
As a member of "Generation X," I have really come to dislike the overuse of what has become a cliche, "underrated." However, the Mission UK is an overall "underrated" band because they were virtually ignored at the times in comparison to the immense popularity of such rivals as Sisters of Mercy and the Cult. These guys had so much potential but the marketing push was given in other directions.
I went and saw the Darkness the other night and there was a lot of us older fans there. A lit of older bands touring and the old fans still making up a big percentage of the crowd.
Awesome sound. Studio-like. Saw them back in 88. It must have been the same tour, All About Eve were the forerunner at that gig. I really liked this music although I preferred SOM and other "darker" bands like Bauhaus, FOTN, etc. Mission has always been a bit too much pop for my taste.
when they were still a great band long time ago they were great in the 80's sad to say last time I saw them live was in London 1991(they were terrible) with support from Killing Joke / NMA etc
Eskimos (the Mission’s touring fans) were an absolute pain in the ass at every gig, pushing people around, falling on people, and generally behaving like complete twats.

I know that feeling perfectly... 30 years ago i had my best doses of happiness enjoying bands like this one live
@@saturnoh3142 God's own medicine..
Yeah, true. But how fucking great were those gigs?
I'm right there with you Mac!!
It was great fun but fuck me we got old too quick
I wish I could have seen the Mission live I love you Wayne
I saw them a couple of times Manchester Apollo back in the 80s best Goth band ever 🎸🎸🎸🎸👍
Walking away from Sisters was best thing to show your real talent Mr Wayne...
By a country mile THE best Tube performance. Sigh, the good old days
This still gives me shivers all these years later. Incredible band, really spoke to me when I needed it
“I’m shouting loud, but no one can hear my voice”
am 42 and just found this, is speaking to me exactly when i need it though, great song!
@@yeahtbh.161 &
its a good band but not enough to reach the sister of mercy...
Absolutely carried this through to 2023.
Sisters breaking up gave us two of the best albums ever resulting from a band splitting up: God's Own Medicine & Floodland
those were the days. the great era of music. nostalgia...

Que gran banda tantos recuerdos y todavía la sigo escuchando tengo 60 años
@@DanielGomez-q7t Indeed they are! I still listen to them too and I am also 60 years old! 👍🏻
Not a mobile phone in sight! Just the crowd enjoying the music, how times have changed...............
❤❤
how's it feel to be a human meme

Came to minsthorpe high school and helped the roadies
The joy of a live performance before the camera phone invaded the venues.
Yeah, absolutely!!!!
I pray that one day something comes along to make them put all the smart phones away, and return to the joy and irreplaceable fullness of now
Absolutely fucking awesome! i remember seeing this on the tube in the day and my brother and i were dancing in the front room. sister came in and laughed then saw Hussey and fell in love! Ha!
Mike will be always the best The Mission' s drummer. His sound is powerful.
Meine absoluten Favoriten mit Depeche Mode zusammen. Und was für eine geile Zeit ❗🎸🎹
Wunderbar!
Oh, what a singer! I know them until 1991 and they are still inimitable.
How did i miss out on this band till i am 64
Saw them two days ago.....still the confettis and the girls on the shoulders dancing the same way 🎉😎
i remember seeing this on the Tube and i was totally totally blown away ....effing awesome
There`s a cristal view from my window,The Mission is still an uberband......

Craig and Wayne.......easily strong enough to stand on their own with out Andrew.......Awesome !
I remember watching this at the time. One of the best performances I saw on the Tube .
Yes - one of my favourite Tube episodes too!
Belgrade, 1991 ameizing concert
Nearly 30 years ago. Always on my mind !
One thing we did in the 80s was putting our girl friends on top our shoulders during some songs. It was magic
THIS IS PURE GOLD
Can’t beat live music

I was at both the Newcastle gigs and havent seen better since they were that good
I so missed the 80s crowd... love Wayne...
thank you very much
como disfruta la gente que mira el show.... si fuera hoy, estan todos con el celu en la mano... lindos años los 80's... saludos desde chile
Wasteland is from my favourite band they are my fucking favourite 9:43
Fantastic group and that drumming was fantastic ,don’t get groups like this anymore ,still remember watching them on the tube ❤
Wayne Hussey is fucking wonderful
Killer bassline!!
This is my favorite live performance of the Mission on UA-cam.
The energy in that room is probably something you can't feel nowadays. Truly wish i was born a decade earlier seeing awesome shit like this
You're right I saw the Mission a few times in the 80s, at the Astoria, Kilburn and (cough) Wembley Arena
100% now impossible with utter bullshit distancing and masks, unless we go underground lol
im at front on this great night we were guests as my band was supposed to get a slot in future show but never happened..gutted

I can remember this, cant remember it being this good though.
Fantastic live versión! !!!
always loved this clip of Wasteland

I need to add more Mission to my iTunes.

Wayne loves the mic
Exelente the mission
wow fab stuff

21.11.1986 Peterborough, UK - Wirrina - stage was too small to get the backdrop in
The Mission were not giveñ a chance
Bands like the Mission influenced Nephilim and so many goth rock industrial acts although they didn't liked to be boxed in as a goth band.
Imagine how heavy gothic this is for the guy holding two more over his shoulders at 2:27
Strong gothic persons at heavy Intense venues

They loned tim bricheno from all about eve for this tv show.

Show D+ 👏👏👏
Does anyone know whats Wayne's guitar?
ESKIMO!
Eskimos (the Mission’s touring fans) were an absolute pain in the ass at every gig, pushing people around, falling on people, and generally behaving like complete twats.
Os caras tocam muito
The best band the surf muisic
Miami Vice soundtrack brought me here.
Goths were always good at building human pyramids back in the day. Have to give them respect for that.
