I wasn't even a Goth but I loved The Mission and their tunes, proper band, saw them in Edinburgh at the Playhouse in 1987, brilliant concert, Wayne Hussey is an amazing performer, off the scale, remember that night with a vengeance ❤❤❤
Im not into wrap but neos "crazy love" and that addicted one are mint, to me, i love rem, and roxy music, go west, fucking manic st preachers, um, white ladder by david grey is good to drink with, you can be you and like whatever, no labels man, keep it proper👍
Still loving this song in 2023!!! About 33 years after I first heard it! So many people said it's just a phase back them, oh if they only knew and understood the magic of music! ⭐🎶⭐
My mum said that, i toned it down then got married and just look normal now, but it doesn't change who you are, which may be good or bad, I don't get out much so no idea
Lived in Yate outside Bristol. 1988 I was 22. Married that year and rented a cottage across from a rebar plant. Would hear The Mission playing on weekends, great bass and drum sound emanating from a warehouse somewhere close by. Met the lead singer's parents at a Mormon Church we were invited to. His Mom said he named the band after the Mormon practice of doing a two year "mission". She said it as if it was something bad probably for the benefit of those within earshot but I could tell she was proud of her son. Nothing like a mother's love. Listening to this in 2024 and still thinking it's cool! Music is timeless!
I'm a Spanish native speaker and I didn't know this song was about the magic legend of King Arthur and the Isle of Avalon until I translated the lyrics to my own language. Nice!
Ageless... 45 years of music and this is still my go to. Seeing them live in a small venue was one of the greatest privilege's of my life. Thank You...!
Just saw them two nights ago for the first time (with the Chameleons) at a small venue in San Francisco. So freaking awesome - the music was incendiary and the vocals were epic!!
Believe in magic believe in lore legend and myth And the hand that guides in the cunning of hope in the weaving of dreams And the lady of the lake takes my hand and leads me To the holy isle and the fairy rings and the circles of stone Forever and again Give me, give me, give me, deliverance Brother, sister, give me, give me Deliverance, deliver me Surrender to the wisdom of age and the spirits of time Remember our souls entwined for eternity And the healing hand of the fairy queen will come to all who have faith in her And the apple tree will bear it's fruit in the gardens of Avalon Forever and again Give me, give me, give me deliverance Brother, sister, give me, give me Deliverance, deliver me Give me, give me, give me, deliverance Brother, sister, give me, give me Deliverance, deliver me Let me sleep for awhile and dream of Avalon and the Beltane fires And a silent kiss steals away into the mist and out to the lake Where the sword will rise again from the water into the Hands of the chosen one the righteous one Forever and again
There are still a club or 2 here in Detroit that will still spin these great tunes! Sisters, Mode, Minstry, Puppy, all your alt. Favorites, etc. It's still alive...just got to find it... that dark dimly lit smoke filled place! Cheers!
This song has been cleverly crafted from start to finish. It is a true powerhouse epic. The intro is immense. The suspense is amazing. The gradual introduction of each music element is totally addictive. The gentle guitar, then the first few base notes get you hooked straight away. Then the drums. The slow build of speed and volume and then the main riff kicks in. WOW!! The melody and rhythm are now speeding into the main timing of the piece and it its stomping. Then WH starts to chant out those epic lyrics with such a controlled, but powerful voice. He tells a story of myth and fantasy that fits the music perfectly. In my view, a perfect rock song from start to an excellent finish. Deliver Me...
One of my favourite bands. They were great performers in concerts. I attended all their gigs in Paris since their debut A really power band, a magic combination of 4 great artists...! Wayne Hussey, a really talented person and an inspiring guitarist :)
Saw them play this a few years ago, on their first night in an ex-Icelandic fishing trawler called The Thekla, moored on the harbourside in Bristol, England. Sold out three nights in a row solid, saw them on the first and they were just as good as when they toured with Carved in Sand 25 years earlier. Do not miss them if you get a chance, brilliant musicians, great live band.
In the 90's, I loved The Mission and I also loved a band called Thousand Yard Stare. Imagine my joy when I discovered that they were supporting The Mission, on my birthday, in Leeds. 2 hours before queuing up for the gig, it was announced that TYS had split up and the whole gig was cancelled. I drank heavily that night and probably cried.
I used to think the mission were like "yeah they sound cool as fuck but the vocals, well it aint sisters but fuck it" but as ive aged its like, I don't know how to put it nice, but he sounds where hes from, like he sounds english, not too americana, its good for me, also english, to hear singers who don't hide their voices, just makes it more "im from here, good on em" type thing
There are times when I am sitting in the quiet, meditating or other times when I am just trying to sleep when I hear in the back of my mind, and my voices echoes 2:19 "Give me, Give me, Give me ... Deliverance "Brother ... Sister ... Give me, Give me, Deliverance ... Deliver me"
My mate went to uni in leeds, he still cant sus why i want to go there. Said to him "sisters come from there, and others, its like a site of pilgrimage dude" he was like "its ok, but shit" i was like "bud that sounds cool, how far away is it?" 7 hour train, took me less time to get from exeter to the grotto of Lourdes, but one day i will go, bet its alright leeds is
I just was listening to The Mission into a friend of mine into it's car....and remembered the good 'ol times...like the band much, they're legendary, just like the Sisters.
I'm not sure that the Sisters can be seen as more successful. The Mission's success overseas (and in terms of chart placings in the UK) outstripped that of the Sisters.
i like both, but the Sisters more....and i do give a damn f*ck about "Charts" Top20, or WTF ever of this kind of things - since my teenage days, that was, when i was 12....a way long time ago....i do care about the music, sound, quality, lyrics...but neither about Chart Positions and/or sold records, because that's crap, it's the same like whats "in" or "out"....who gives a damn....sold records are only interesting for the record label, and artists, in order to get more money....anyway.
Marc, I don't care about chart positions and sales, either. However, you used the word "successful", which in this context would refer to precisely those things. Perhaps English is not your first language, hence the misunderstanding.
Just realised they mention "Avalon" and the apple trees, I live in Avalon (Glastonbury) in Somerset and in their other tune "wasteland" in the video they have a drone shot of Glastonbury Tor
They were encored by people singing this? That means this song means something to more than one of them, thats very cool, nice post man😃 i wont forget it
Omg! I liked everything from her! Very, very nice, gives me vibes of rhe old but with a freshness and uniqueness that put me on a positive instance about the future... (My english are pretty bad...😅)
i only listen to gothic rock because i was mistaken for being into gothic music when what i was actually talking about during that conversation was how i wanted to revive the gothic nation as a collection of exclaves made up of gallicia; asturias; catalan; rif; crimea; milan; ravenna; gotland and Kaliningrad
Cannot wait to get my black witch sun hat and dark shades on post covid lockdown for holiday ! - Glad I was told I looked like a female version of Wayne Hussey in younger years !
ADORE ❤️ 🎸... MUSIC IS THE ONLY HEALER I DISCOVERED IN MY LIFE.... AND NOW CORONA CRASHED OUR LIVES AND NO LIVE MUSIC IN GERMANY 2020 ANYMORE 😪.... BUT MUSIC WILL BRING US THROUGH THIS MESS.... STAY STRONG AND HEALTHY THROUGH THE COVID19. PANDEMIC ON OUR MOTHER EARTH... 🌈🙏🦄....
Dear Wayne ! thanks so much foe evening great evening in Bologna october 2019 hope to see you again to meet us again thanks thanks bring in my heart im cry thanks thanks
Interesting another DS vet posted here aswell. Seems to have caught a mood out there. Listening to it in a slightly different way now... seeing helicopters, dust and Apocalypse Now as I listen to "Belief".
@Pedro - Well, Operation Provide Comfort I and Provide Comfort II were relief missions by their nature. Rescuing the Kurds from Saddam's wrath, stopping a genocide. Spin that however you want, you sanctimonious twit.
Kid, let me explain this very slowly to you: no one ignores what "comfort" you provided, and to whom you provided it. Call it "relief" all you want. And it wasn't "the kurds" you rescued, as it become very obvious afterwards. So, calling anyone one other than yourself a "twit" is just plain embarrassing. Want to stop genocides? Stop voting for idiots in your home country willing to sell guns overseas, and stop accepting going on "missions" on countries whose population think you're the real threat to the world. Now please, with sugar on top, get your head out of your ass and pay attention to the game you're playing: you're old enough to be aware.
I am sorry for having taken so long to find this piece of crap comment. Thing is: there are so many crap comments made on UA-cam that it does take me a lot of time to deal with them all. Lucky for you yours was particularly easy to find. I am also sorry for noticing your mediocre understanding of the bravado concept. Nonetheless, it does not come as a surprise that so many us citizens have such a hard time with written english language. Maybe it's the gun oil going to your brain, or the fact that all gun-toting still-to-accomplish-maturity individuals tend to gather themselves around criticism. But hey, feel free to defend a guy stating gothic musicians are ok as soundtracks for killing innocent iraqis in their own country: it only suits you, and it's no like anyone expected anything else from you. If you do find the time, go check the gallup poll on who the rest of the world thinks is the biggest threat to world peace. One hint: it's not Iraq... Now go sit on a corner and play some more "i'll kill you! no, I'll kill you", like you're so accustumed to do. "usa #1".
I wasn't even a Goth but I loved The Mission and their tunes, proper band, saw them in Edinburgh at the Playhouse in 1987, brilliant concert, Wayne Hussey is an amazing performer, off the scale, remember that night with a vengeance ❤❤❤

Total hidden hero of a song. One of the best to come out of the 90s. This version in particular.
Same!
The whole album is amazing ⚡ butterfly on a wheel being a personal favourite ♠️ Wayne Hussy is from the same town as me to 😜

How can this still sound so good after all these years?? Fricking awesome!
I'm a Spanish native speaker and I didn't know this song was about the magic legend of King Arthur and the Isle of Avalon until I translated the lyrics to my own language. Nice!

And fields are doing it☹️ fucking money 😡
Just saw them two nights ago for the first time (with the Chameleons) at a small venue in San Francisco. So freaking awesome - the music was incendiary and the vocals were epic!!
Believe in magic believe in lore legend and myth
And the hand that guides in the cunning of hope in the weaving of dreams
And the lady of the lake takes my hand and leads me
To the holy isle and the fairy rings and the circles of stone
Forever and again
Give me, give me, give me, deliverance
Brother, sister, give me, give me
Deliverance, deliver me
Surrender to the wisdom of age and the spirits of time
Remember our souls entwined for eternity
And the healing hand of the fairy queen will come to all who have faith in her
And the apple tree will bear it's fruit in the gardens of Avalon
Forever and again
Give me, give me, give me deliverance
Brother, sister, give me, give me
Deliverance, deliver me
Give me, give me, give me, deliverance
Brother, sister, give me, give me
Deliverance, deliver me
Let me sleep for awhile and dream of Avalon and the Beltane fires
And a silent kiss steals away into the mist and out to the lake
Where the sword will rise again from the water into the
Hands of the chosen one the righteous one
Forever and again
Tks for posting the lyrics.
There are still a club or 2 here in Detroit that will still spin these great tunes! Sisters, Mode, Minstry, Puppy, all your alt. Favorites, etc. It's still alive...just got to find it... that dark dimly lit smoke filled place! Cheers!
How awesome
How I miss the good old times of early 2020. My clubs played this, too.
It is timeless
There are a lot of goth clubs that have 80s goth and industrial nights. That is when I go cuz I am 51
We have 1 club here in St. Louis That has a goth night. I almost feel too old to go, lol, being an elder goth at almost 50. 😂🖤
They are very underrated band! A brilliant band to see live! Wayne is huge presence on stage!
And what a voice.
I saw them here in Milan
2020 and I'm still loving The Mission
Me too

Just pure quality. All the best bands stand the test of time and can still play and produce excellent music and performance. Keep it coming guys :-)
Yup, particularly this track, dramatic and perfect for both small clubs and stadiums.
❤
Magnífico tema el principio heroico y la voz de Wayne hussen potente saludos desde Colombia
Such an underrated band. This is so epic!
Not underrated by me. God's own medicine changed my life...
I still believe in God....
@Chainsaw Aunt Sally very. Good.-
weyhey...YT comments section and 'underrated' appears again.......overrated comment!!
Afterglow is this good. One of their top 2 best.
This song has been cleverly crafted from start to finish. It is a true powerhouse epic. The intro is immense. The suspense is amazing. The gradual introduction of each music element is totally addictive. The gentle guitar, then the first few base notes get you hooked straight away. Then the drums. In my view, a perfect rock song from start to an excellent finish. Deliver Me...
Yes, it is damn near perfect
great review for a great song
the remix on the 12 inch single was even better, it has samples from the movie excalibur.......that elevates the epicness of this tune
This song delivered me into a car accident 30 years ago while singing "give me, give me, give me deliverance"... But still sing it mouth wide opem🤟🤟❤️
they used a similar opening structure on the song Hdshrinkerea.
Listening to this 30 years later and the sound is just as fresh as ever !
Another classic. This and Beyond the Pale have the greatest intros ever, timeless
Discovered the Mission in the early 90s. Power deep band. Blasting this song, feels right.
One of my favourite bands.
They were great performers in concerts. I attended all their gigs in Paris since their debut
A really power band, a magic combination of 4 great artists...!
Wayne Hussey, a really talented person and an inspiring guitarist :)
Top top classic
And he sings👍🙏
This song has 3 intro’s or one very long intro, it makes no difference. STUNNING. Nothing more to be said.👌👌👌👌👌
The bass guitar of this song completes the power behind it from the seriously underated super group
Yeah hes solid
That's purely why Craig Adams has been a favourite of mine...
That sounds Amazing. I saw them in 80s in Detroit
Lived in bristol 20 years ago, never knew the thekla was a boat, went beerkeller once, fucking hated it🤣
In the 90's, I loved The Mission and I also loved a band called Thousand Yard Stare. Imagine my joy when I discovered that they were supporting The Mission, on my birthday, in Leeds. 2 hours before queuing up for the gig, it was announced that TYS had split up and the whole gig was cancelled. I drank heavily that night and probably cried.
Absolutely one of my favorite songs from back in the day!
One of my faves by them, if it was still on the radio, definitely would be listening to it😃👍
Una canción con mayúsculas. Evocadora, potente, elegante. Y para levantar hierros va genial 💪🔥
I just love his voice. And the music is so powerful. Thanks for sharing! Never heard of them till yesterday!
Missy Glitter Vlogs there a great band ,other great songs include wasteland , tower of strength ,and much more
So you will be on a Mission to look for more stuff by them 😜 well I thought it was funny
One of the best sorely and shamefully underrated voices on earth.
Fuckin awesome, this takes me back to my high school days. Best music and times that will never be again.
Wayne's world he should start a Disney world he's a gebezite genius no schaisser shittyshifttown working wayne
Hell yeah!!!!
Really miss those years!!!
Favourite Mission tune, and Blood Brother/Wasteland.
There are times when I am sitting in the quiet, meditating or other times when I am just trying to sleep when I hear in the back of my mind, and my voices echoes 2:19
"Give me, Give me, Give me ... Deliverance
"Brother ... Sister ... Give me, Give me, Deliverance ... Deliver me"
I was listening to bauhaus a while back and the mission came up so i gave them a listen glad i did love there great sound awsome
coming to my city next year. Cant wait, will be ace to see this band, that i use to listen too back in the 80's/90's but never got to see live.
XR400?
One of the greatest bands to ever come out the UK!
Leeds too...
Most great bands have come from the UK!
My mate went to uni in leeds, he still cant sus why i want to go there. Said to him "sisters come from there, and others, its like a site of pilgrimage dude" he was like "its ok, but shit" i was like "bud that sounds cool, how far away is it?" 7 hour train, took me less time to get from exeter to the grotto of Lourdes, but one day i will go, bet its alright leeds is
Brings back fab memories of my youth and seeing them live on numerous occasions at The Astoria in London... great band .. still love them 💜
This song has been, and always will be, cleverly written and beautiful 🖤
As a new goth I love this gem of a song
I just was listening to The Mission into a friend of mine into it's car....and remembered the good 'ol times...like the band much, they're legendary, just like the Sisters.
they were originally were the /same band at leeds university
But the Sisters have been more successful. I do like both.

One of my best favorit songs ! Thanks Wayne Husey !
Listened to this in 1995 in my first car, with my first girlfriend sitting next to me.... what a time, what a song
Love this song. Used to play it in a band about 20 years ago, still get goosebumps.
Just realised they mention "Avalon" and the apple trees, I live in Avalon (Glastonbury) in Somerset and in their other tune "wasteland" in the video they have a drone shot of Glastonbury Tor
Στην λευκη με αγαπη αλεξανδρος 1991 🥰🥰🥰
I guess this happens at every gig but tonight Stockholm nailed it with Deliverance sing-along to get the band back on stage
They were encored by people singing this? That means this song means something to more than one of them, thats very cool, nice post man😃 i wont forget it
Takes me back to an Awesome Time of my life, my Youth!!
Omg! I liked everything from her! Very, very nice, gives me vibes of rhe old but with a freshness and uniqueness that put me on a positive instance about the future... (My english are pretty bad...😅)

Greetings from a Sri Lankan Goth! 🇱🇰🦇🤘😎🦇
This was my go-to song when prepping for patrol missions in Northern Iraq in 1991 courtesy of a Sony Walkman.
+OhHaiNSA . This and "killing an Arab" by the Cure
Was it different when fighting the first aspect of the "Bush Regime"? I want your take.
