I was born in 79. And looking back we were really, really shielded from just how poor everyone was in the UK in the 80s... I grew up in Liverpool and I wouldn't demean the people who loved me by allowing our experiences to be judged... But I was ALWAYS surrounded by music like this. And it was blissful.

Absolutely loved this track when it came out March 1988 just over a year before they had Wasteland which was another awesome track but it's definitely a toss up between that one and this power track Tower of Strength The Mission where dark an gothic-like but still amazing they where a little like The Sister of Mercy but every time I here this I have to play it all the way though as it's and absolutely epic track!!! I definitely grew up at the right time I was just turning 12 great times! 😌💙🫶

Turned some down due to bad timing. Enjoyed being a insider but also felt should not push my luck! Would be in studio when the regular group of ticket moochers called in!

That period in time much of the indie music press, NME & Melody Maker etc, was distinctly heavily skewed in favouring bands not like them...The Smiths, Wedding Present, The Fall, Jesus & The Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine...those types. The Mission were often looked down on and accused by those in the press of being bombastic. Their image didn't fit for mainstream popularity, the whole thing with Andrew Eldritch and Sisters of Mercy...and, some very embarrassing TV appearances and interviews of Mr Hussey drunk out of his skull didn't do them any favours either.
U2 by this time turned into complete shit. Unforgettable Fire was their end. There are still so many morons who think Rattle and Hum is "great music". You play them " Stories for Boys" and they hate it.

We'll never get the 80s back for the quality musicians we were blessed with. At least we have the next best thing. Forever trapped in that magical era! Leaving the sisters didn't cause too much of an issue then.

When i watched and listened to this, this morning my eyes filled with tears, today I watched it as a father of two, I saw my daughter , who s a woman now, as my baby girl that I used to pick up, protect. It was overwhelming
I remember being dragged along by a girlfriend to one of The Missions early gigs at Newcastle Tiffanys when they were touring the Gods Own Medicine album. I really didn't get the whole goth thing this band were attached to - still don't & probably never will - but hand on heart that gig was one of the best I've ever seen. I was only a kid at the time, 15 years old I reckon, and since then I've been to hundreds of gigs but few will even come close to how good that Mission gig was. I always maintained a bit of a secret interest in them for years after & I'm a bit crushed I've missed their recent tour. To my ears anyway this band were from an era when music really mattered & often soundtracked the various directions & tailspins your life took moving forwards. I miss that era & listening to this incredible track this evening I'm instantly transported back there. A timeless classic from an absolutely incredible band.
