cw lee Blood doping (where you boost the number of red blood cells) is essentially the same thing and that's illegal. To me, the big problem with doping is that 1) It's often highly unhealthy (which surgery would often also be) and 2) it makes it impossible for athletes that don't have a huge sum of money behind them to compete. Certain bikes in cycling and full body suits in swimming are illegal because it would be an arms race of who can create the most aerodynamic gear.
I think Doping in non contact sports should be allowed in some leagues. I would love to see what a human body could do pushed to its max limits. I think it's a free market kinda thing. If one league test and another doesn't, let the viewers determine a winner.

Core-A-Gaming, I used to be salty twards your channel, but now I realise how much your content entertains and informs me about important facts I didn't know. This is my way of saying that I am sorry for letting one video cloud my judgement. I apreciate your work.
It sucks when people take adderall illegally. It makes it hard for people with ADHD because doctors, first of all, are hesitant with diagnosing adults with ADHD, and they are even more hesitant with writing a prescription for any ADHD medication. Rant aside, this is an amazing video with sweet third strike music.
TheMaloo424 I have actually talked to a lot of people who say they have a hard time getting a prescription because either the Doctor wants them to get retested for it or they want them to take several drug test. Many people can only function at their best with adderall, vyvance etc.
It definitely is easier if you were diagnosed early though. My friend and I were diagnosed at very early ages by a specialists, and both of our prescriptions carried over into adulthood. And while attention disorders tend to weaken with age, they don't completely go away and sometimes can stay relatively the same. A lot of non-specialists are wary of diagnosing these disorders because a majority of kids are hyper and unfocused anyways, and adults can lie. The public also tends to misunderstand on the grounds that they tend to think that the only symptoms of these disorder are the ones that they all seem to share (lack of focus and an excess physical and/or verbal activity) and label almost all cases of an attention disorder as the most common one, ADHD. This leads the uninformed to believe that anyone who meets these arbitrary requirements have ADHD, including their own children, who are more than likely to just be hyper because they are children with still-developing brains.
SirFrostbite Yeah. I feel bad for adults diagnosed in their 20s or 30s. I couldn't agree more. There are way more symptoms to ADHD than inattention and hyperactivity.
Doping in eSports really sounded like some sci-fi super drug to me at first. While it was what I basically expected with the drugs enhancing your reflexes and such it still seems strange. Also a fun thing, in Swedish we have 2 different words for drugs that are purely there to help you get better and such, and another word for drugs that are considered bad and illegal.
As a journalism major and a FGC fan i'm so happy that high quality content like this is being produced from within the community. Keep up the great work!
Chris Hill In FG, you can only rely on yourself, and tournaments are played on the same console. I think this cuts out a lot of the foolishness you may find in other competitive gaming communities.
The communications between the teammates was weird because the entire team was fucked up on Adderall. In FPS games like Counter-Strike or Halo, you have a team, usually four or five people, fighting together to take on another team, so communication between teammates is a HUGE part of being a good player. If you're tweaking your ass off, you might have quicker reaction time, but you might also be talking gibberish on comms.
non-prescribed drugs should be banned. as someone who has adhd, it is very unfair to me; I have to deal with the physical addiction and side-effects of the drug to function at a normal person's average level of focus, attentiveness, and memory. for someone without a disability to then use the substance without any consequence and get a boost in ability whenever they want is just further punishing me since I can never reach that same point. having caffeine with the medication is risky as well due to the potential heart problems that can result from taking 2 stimuli.
Not only that, but imagine you want to become a pro and in order to keep up with the competition you HAD to take a substance that is knownly addictive, damaging to your health and can even be lethal in some cases. That's the real problem, you would HAVE to take this risk in order to stay relevant in the scene
That's not physical addiction, thats psychological addiction, heroin is physical addiction, I had to stop taking adderall because the brain damage built to the point that I have panic attacks regardless if I take it or not, and now my attention span is less than 30 seconds because of that crap, it's not even a good ADHD medicine, well it is in the fact that it actually works until you get brain damage, but it really is there to get people hooked regardless if it helps them or not.
i wanna see the Dark League, where every single person at the tournament is drugged up. push potential to the maximum at any cost. lets see some real fgc shit.
Very professional. The clean cuts and transitions really sell the message you're trying to get across. You've earned yourself a subscriber. Keep up the good work.
Adderall isnt gonna magically teach you fundamentals. Those reaction times wont help unless you are at the top level. Which 90% of player's arent. Hope it was worth the neurotoxicity.
Ya it actually will teach you magically, but at the same time during mortal kombat deception when I was in sixth grade ditching school i'd whip the asses of older players that claim to smoke some magic drug that makes them better, shit I was rank 100, if you play as much as a speed addict plays you'll more than likely get better than them though, because drugs affect your decision making process. Also at some point that neurotoxicity causes panic attacks and pisses you the fuck off, once that happens they quit.
adderall makes you better because you react quicker, including sight, so things seem slower. It's easier to combo in slow motion than at full speed, easier to block or react to different attacks, etc. Easier to learn the game at a slower pace than it is to learn it at full speed
@@nicememe8608 my guy he really doesn't need to provide sources. A quick look over popular subreddits that talk about its safe use, talk about the neurotoxicity and ways to reduce it in the long term. Educate yourself if you care about your dopamine receptors in the long term.
Beyond the obious well presented subject matter of your videos, I gotta tell you that I love your music choice, too. I hear that Third Strike Makoto stage theme, excellence.
This video hits a nerve due to the fact I have properly diagnosed ADHD, and while I rarely use Adderall for my needs, when I do it helps me relax and calm down to the point where I can think, and it hurts thinking people would turn something so close to me as peace of mind into some bs victory, there's been moments where I considered the fact people could steal my medication when I wasn't aware. And times where I think people actually did, I'm happy it's being hunted down in the FGC, and I hope people like me who actually need adderall don't get DQ'd over a medical disorder
It only helps you relax if you have ADHD. Otherwise it hypes you up. ADHD is a problem with the control/filter part of you brain. Everything gets through. The adderall wakes it up now there’s fewer thoughts hitting your attention because your filter works. It greatly increases focus. Adderall at dosages too high give signals to your brain that things are great but testing shows it’s artificial. Adderall can counteract fatigue. But it won’t make you better at a game.
+Blitzern You could say they use the drug to overcome a personal deficit and bringing them back to normal levels, and not abusing it to take a normal person beyond their normal levels.
+ZarZDodge People could fake prescriptions or attain prescriptions legitimately for ADHD that does not exist. There are people who don't believe ADHD exists at all, and as one of them all I can say is that this debate is old and oblique with no clear answer.
+ZarZDodge I think it encompasses the question "Is the medicine ever legitimate?" The answer (assuming we don't allow performance enhancing drugs) is no, regardless of medical condition.
This shit is absolutely real. Something about the movement and flow of Smash is totally enhanced by getting cooked. It's like it reduces the decision fatigue and makes chaining stuff together feel more natural. Some friends of mine used to call it powering up
I take a similar amphetamine called Focalin to treat my ADD. I also play competitive fighting games. One didn't lead to the other, but I can definitely feel the advantages of the Focalin when it comes to playing reflex oriented games. With my cognitive disadvantage, I couldn't go a day without the drug without mental recoil. I'm not approving nor condemning the drug, but I've known many gamers who suffer from a mental disability who need drugs like these to function.
Smoking weed actually made me play worse and slowed down my reaction time. Caffeine however, increased my reaction time and makes play slightly better. Everyone is different though.
Death_Dealer well, yeah weed is a depressant It's why they're associated with chill people everyone is different, sure, but it's not worth talking about the extreme minority weed slows, caffeine increases And guy above, weed is most definitely not the worst thing ever, or even that bad for that matter
master6339 Marijuana falls into psychedelics. 3 kinds of drugs; stimulants, depressants and psychedelics. (BEFORE IDIOTS SAY ANYTHING: NO not all psychedelics make you hallucinate, that isn't what classifies a drug as psychedelic, even though many of them do cause hallucinations)
the funny thing is that the doses of caffeine athletes take is high enough that it'd actually be much healthier for them to take a low dose of some kind of amphetamine. bring back benzedrine i say.
I think this discussion is still relevant today. I use Concerta, which is much like Aderol. I use it because my brain needs it to function normally. What happens if I enter a tournament, and they discover that I am using medications? Can I use the medication with a doctor's approval? What stops a player from having a bad doctor willing to prescribe the medication to someone who doesn't need it, but wants to use it in a professional setting? What about coaches drugging their trainee without telling them? There is a lot to unravel.
Thanks for the video. I like your channel, even though I'm awful at gaming. This is a delicate topic for me. I was a drug addict for about five years. It takes a toll. Now there is a real APA definition for gaming addiction. It would be great to have a video about it. Brave video! Keep it up.
It’s funny because as someone with ADHD and prescribed Adderall, I wish I could get the magical super power people get from it, but all it does is bring me up to a neurotypical level of focus.
Recently I've had friends asking for me to give them some of my Adderall to help them study for finals. I had to explain to them that if they took it, they would literally die, and that's not an exaggeration. the amount I take every day is enough to kill somebody if they don't build up to it. completely disregarding that I'm staunchly against sharing my prescription medication, there's so many risks to it. I wish people would work harder on their own and not ask for drugs because they're lazy. if you are genuinely having trouble focusing, please talk to a psychiatrist about it, not a friend.
Who the hell told you amphetamine kills people from OD? amphetamine overdose causes a fate worse then death, a psychotic episode that ends up with you being in the mental hospital, the highest dose of adderal is less than half a street dose of meth. Amphetamine made you scared about that. But still, don't give people amphetamine, it's a terrible addiction, when you start smoking it you realize you can smoke a hundred dollars in a day and not die lol. When amphetamine kills you, it's usually because it's damaged your heart to the point your more likely of dying from a heart attack at an age earlier than normal, not from an overdose.
The reason to ban drugs is bigger than just competitive edge. Look at normal sports. Kids grow up trying to emulate their favorite players. The serious kids use their athletes training and habits as framework for their own lives, trying to train, eat, and think like their idol. How would it look if the top athletes were openly bragging about how they do coke to be alert in every game, then drink cough syrup to come down and then smoke a few blunts while they take their ice bath? How would it look when kids try to emulate the players? Same thing applies here. Kids who play competitive games watch their favorite players, and try to play like them. The champions set the example. I guarantee if every pro scene had open drug use across all the top players, that would be used as the reason to ban esports, and would see a large amount of parents banning video games because “it’s the gateway to drug use”.
I had no idea this was a thing... I don't take Adderoll, but I still do and have taken various forms of amphetamines to combat my ADHD and clinical depression. It's incredibly disappointing because it's always been a serious dream of mine to go to EVO for BB/GG. Guess this won't be happening >.< Unfortunately for people like me, we need to take these things to feel normal. Not for a particular edge. TBQH, I wish I didn't have to take any Rx, but my life would tear itself apart from the inside out if I ever stopped. Was diagnosed when I was 2.
I'm someone who suffers from ADHD and play Competitive Smash, should I just overall drop the pills I take or "cheat" for having a disability to my level of concentration and reaction time when I attend my tournaments?
Sparrow that's a more complicated area that you see discussed in sports. For example, if a pitcher gets an arm injury and needs surgery to repair it, but the surgery causes him to end up with an arm that's stronger than most others, is he legal? If you say no, it means even if he recovers he can no longer play, if you say yes you risk everyone, healthy of not getting the same surgery just for the edge, eventually making it so that anyone who can't or won't get it can't play. We want people to be able to get over difficulties so they can play, but we also don't want people to ruin their lives and their wallets for the sport, and they WILL.
@@iandakariann This just makes me feel bad because I really don't want to quit competitive Smash but I depend on my Adderall immensly, without it I just can't focus and mind games are legit impossible.
There was a comedian many years ago joking about the steroid scandals in baseball, and his answer was basically split it up: have a steroid league and a clean league. Put everyone on the same level. ...obviously, you don't want to actually do that, because excessive drug use like that can be extremely harmful. But it would be funny to see a competition where everyone was playing at a level so far beyond what we already see.
If you need to do drugs, youre not good enough. It´s player vs player not who has more drugs pumped in. You just don´t deserve anything if you need to "enhance" yourself.
Not like it's hard for anyone to obtain Adderall, go to doctor tell them you have a hard time focusing on shit. Boom you have ADD you now have Adderall.
RotatingDisc - That woman has some serious mental problems, she also accused Mango of domestic abuse one time, and she was even in jail for trying to hurt another girl with a knife. I honestly feel bad for Mango, even if he is drunk all the time he deserves better.
Kinda mixed here. Weed doesn't necessarily make you play "better" in all cases. Many people play much worse with weed actually. Personally, for fighters I play far more creatively when high, whether my reactions improve or worsen, I can't say -- I haven't experimented enough. However, if I were to jump into Dota 2 or Heroes of the Storm, my awareness would be so terrible that I'd be getting ganked by obvious shit that I would have definitely caught sober. One thing's for sure, you'll play differently, at the very least. Perhaps sometimes more creative, but not necessarily "better", it's hard to describe. Reaction time on weed varies by person, but I can't imagine it hands-down increasing it like coffee or adderall. I would compared it to something like a cigarette, as most players will use weed to help calm nerves at tournaments. I definitely wouldn't necessarily put it into the category of "performance enhancing" though.
In my experience I've found that on a little bit of cannabis I've perceived some fighting games, more specifically NRS games, to almost go in slow motion. What this had improved for me was actually make some of the hardest execution combos in the games much easier for me, feel like I have a coffee break to anti-air that jump in, and tech throws better. That's me however and my brain chemistry works different than yours or anyone else's so I could never consider it an enhancer for others because they could feel entirely different effects. This was from just a bit of cannabis. If had done more than that then I'd start to become really slow and unable to react to most scrambles and moments when an opponent was overwhelming me with offense.
Here is my idea, since the price is so much to actually check for doping, just make the consequences extremely high. For example, say that if you are caught doping, you will be banned from tournaments for 6 months. This way, although it won't be full proof, it will discourage it immensely.
With Redbull being a sponsor with a lot of money and providing a big coverage, I can already smell rules being forced to 'accept' energy drinking when they are toxic product and not something we should promote to the younger audience. Why is it that youporn has to be 'banned' when their esport team has no reference to their initial website but we accept thing like Redbull? Money. And with the Red Bull Kumite coming along, I don't think we are going to have a fair set anyway...
Fun fact one time I smoked some weed at sat down to lab some tekken and I got amazing results little did I know I was staring at the screen for 4 hours
that is an amazing, very well researched video. as a person who knows nothing about competitive gaming any more i was able to follow everything and gain insight. I'm glad I subscribed!
The only problem I have with using performance-enhancing drugs in any competition is that it more often than not turns into a necessity to succeed rather than a bonus. Everyone starts doping, and you better had to if you want to win. However, I think it would be a better solution to have 2 separate leagues, one drug free league and one that isn't necessarily pro-drug, but one that doesn't really pay attention to it. That way, you can still be a pro whether or not you want to use drugs. This would be a complicated transition and won't ever happen in esports or traditional sports (largely due to our vehemently anti-drug culture (at least in the US), but I think that would be the most fair solution even to the fans.
I remember when I was in my semi pro call of duty days. Playing gbs and tourneys all day. I use to buy 2 monsters and drink them while I played. Shit felt like it made my shot on point. Ah the days.
Everyone is still doping in cycling, it hasn't stopped. It cost a ton of money to stop gamers from doping and really isn't even that big of an issue. Everyone knows that kids in college use adderall but the colleges aren't trying to crack down on it at all. College kids aren't getting addicted at enormous rates and becoming meth heads. I haven't seen the downfall of any pro gamer because of doping. It really makes no sense to even mention that people take PED's for video games.
Drugs are bad the for the competitor's health? So is gaming for 16 hours a day, not sleeping enough, drinking half a crate of redbull, neglecting your social life etc etc. sports or esports have consequences if you want to be the best. The the winner is and should often be the one willing to sacrifice the most to win. Not fair? Allowing drugs would be a level playing field, it's banning them which turns it in to a competition to see who can get away with cheating. You admit the testing hardly works and competitors are always going to get better at cheating the system especially when their incomes are on the line.
+AlphaJNitro007 Some drugs will make them less healthy, some will make them more healthy. I'd rather competitors were allowed to make their own decisions.
Informative video Core-A. I wanted to ask where you draw the line between caffeine (and also when you mention the player who drinks hot chocolate before their games) and adderall? You touched on the issue at 3:00 although I wanted to hear a more elaborate answer. I've tried thinking of apt comparisons in my head such as protein and steroids among athletes but I couldn't come up with my own answer.
Nice video man, I think a great idea for a funny-ish episode is if you made a list of 10 things fighting game players hate such as someone telling you what you're doing wrong in the middle of a match.
I reccomend the film Bigger Stronger Faster for more research on this topic. It goes deep into how prolific these enhancers are. Personally I think that enhancers should be legal. The reason they weren't are because America lost the gold medal in track in the 1980's and to rob it from canada they accused the canadian champ of using steroids. Everyone used them until then. America ONLY accused them because they lost the medal. After that they had to play the "Righteous hero" and say no to drugs and all that.
You can't just infer motive for an entire country like it's a fact without clear and ample evidence. You think you're taking the high ground here, and yet you're rooting for cheaters and the use and production of dangerous drugs which hurt the athletes and enrich the corrupt industry which created the problem in the first place.
OMG Scarlett drank hot chocolate ? I'm so disapointed. I thought she was good at SC2 but it was all the hot chocolate. No skill at all

+Kassiopia Jackson ADHD medication itself is bullshit, not that doctors are less eager to give you pills...
Bullshit they hand it out like candy

Doping in eSports really sounded like some sci-fi super drug to me at first. While it was what I basically expected with the drugs enhancing your reflexes and such it still seems strange. Also a fun thing, in Swedish we have 2 different words for drugs that are purely there to help you get better and such, and another word for drugs that are considered bad and illegal.

+bob jones I would like to know as well. But I think it is referring to "communication" between team members during a match. I may be off though?
Chris Hill Naw, FGC is just a weird community.

Adderall isnt gonna magically teach you fundamentals. Those reaction times wont help unless you are at the top level. Which 90% of player's arent. Hope it was worth the neurotoxicity.
The bigger advantage is that it helps their training.
RAAM855 what neurotoxicity? Sources?
adderall makes you better because you react quicker, including sight, so things seem slower. It's easier to combo in slow motion than at full speed, easier to block or react to different attacks, etc. Easier to learn the game at a slower pace than it is to learn it at full speed

I don't have ADHD but if it helps relax I want some
It only helps you relax if you have ADHD.
Ok so what if there's a person with ADHD? Are they allowed to use adder-all or no?
+Blitzern If they have a prescription, then yes
+Blitzern You could say they use the drug to overcome a personal deficit and bringing them back to normal levels, and not abusing it to take a normal person beyond their normal levels.
+ZarZDodge
People could fake prescriptions or attain prescriptions legitimately for ADHD that does not exist.
There are people who don't believe ADHD exists at all, and as one of them all I can say is that this debate is old and oblique with no clear answer.
Xajora But the question put for forward by the OP assumed that ADHD existed in the first place.
+ZarZDodge
I think it encompasses the question "Is the medicine ever legitimate?"
The answer (assuming we don't allow performance enhancing drugs) is no, regardless of medical condition.
Amphetamine Salts are taken by most media and television as well as athletic personalities in the USA.
@bb b that's the reason they should be banned. Otherwise you HAVE to take them in order to keep up with the competition
I'm not approving nor condemning the drug, but I've known many gamers who suffer from a mental disability who need drugs like these to function.
i think they should let the players smoke weed on stage
I agree
+zeu s Both the smoke and the smell could be used as a distraction. Unless of course they're not side by side.
Gay
+zeu s now that's the new meta
+zeu s The players who did would be at a disadvantage. Weed inhibits your mental faculties. That's not even considering the moral ramifications.
Smoking weed actually made me play worse and slowed down my reaction time. Caffeine however, increased my reaction time and makes play slightly better. Everyone is different though.
duh smoking weed is the worst thing for fighting in game and real life XD
Death_Dealer well, yeah
weed is a depressant
It's why they're associated with chill people
everyone is different, sure, but it's not worth talking about the extreme minority
weed slows, caffeine increases
And guy above, weed is most definitely not the worst thing ever, or even that bad for that matter
master6339 he said for fighting.
Death_Dealer Weed made me better
master6339 Marijuana falls into psychedelics.

Just been binge watching some for your videos; seriously good stuff man! :D
Looking forward to more Analysis/Documentary type vids.
Great watch, quick question though. What would be the downsides to just testing the top 8 players/teams?
Guess this won't be happening >.<
Unfortunately for people like me, we need to take these things to feel normal. Not for a particular edge. TBQH, I wish I didn't have to take any Rx, but my life would tear itself apart from the inside out if I ever stopped. Was diagnosed when I was 2.
Gotta love that GTAB in the video. I love all your videos. They're so down to earth and motivational.

Disgusted Batman HEY!
You're mellow mike
Disgusted Batman Buzz me, mellow.
What about lsd in racing sport?
Very interesting video, keep up the great work. Also thanks for being considerate enough to post the BGM used in description.
Here is my idea, since the price is so much to actually check for doping, just make the consequences extremely high. For example, say that if you are caught doping, you will be banned from tournaments for 6 months. This way, although it won't be full proof, it will discourage it immensely.
That runs into the problem of dopers potentially ducking tournaments with tests, which can cause serious issues for TOs.

Saint Jimmy gggggrgg
The problem with that solution is that you'll inadvertently end up making a 2nd class league.
I remember when I was in my semi pro call of duty days. Playing gbs and tourneys all day. I use to buy 2 monsters and drink them while I played. Shit felt like it made my shot on point. Ah the days.
that's definitely more common than not. and way worse on the body than moderate adderall use
Allow all doping as high risk - high reward strategy. : 3
3:40 Adelaide!!! OMG someone finally knows we exist!!!

You want players to be more unhealthy?
+AlphaJNitro007 Some drugs will make them less healthy, some will make them more healthy. I'd rather competitors were allowed to make their own decisions.

Ban every drug, except weed.

Nah weed can be banned. Just legalize LSD
RUdigitized Thuere also very harmful, dangerous, and unfair, but okay.
You can't just infer motive for an entire country like it's a fact without clear and ample evidence. You think you're taking the high ground here, and yet you're rooting for cheaters and the use and production of dangerous drugs which hurt the athletes and enrich the corrupt industry which created the problem in the first place.
