    We’ve just been handed our brand new HH44 Catamaran (a 2 year dream in the making). And we only have 3 days before we must sail the boat out of the country.
    Most sailors would take it slow for the shakedown period and coastal cruise for the first month or so while they get to know the vessel. But, we don’t have that luxury.
    Because this boat was built for export and once completed, it must be exported out of the country. So no local cruising for us. Due to the weather patterns and time of year, our best option right now is to sail the 600+ miles across the South China Sea, through the Taiwan Straits (notoriously treacherous bit of water) and into the Philippines. That’s one helluva first sail! Welcome to the world S/V CURIOSITY.
    In other words this is not a shakedown cruise. This is a multi-day Bluewater passage that will have to serve as our shakedown.
    Goodbye China and hello Philippines.

    WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales.
    We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us.
    Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.
    We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste.
    Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity

    Congratulations! A new chapter begins. Although you don’t see us, many people have been with you for years. Since the days of RV life when one day, you announced that you wanted to become seafarers. We were with you then with words of encouragement and we’re still here with you now. The boat is amazing. Looking forward to the adventures to come. We’ve never met, but you do feel like friends.

    Dear Jason and Nikki. Although I am writing personally I know I speak for all the team at HH Catamarans. We are so very proud of the boats we build and it is always hard to express this passion we have to the world. It is wonderful to have such an amazing couple take our dream and concept, make it your dream, allow us to make it reality, and then share it with the world in such a beautiful way. Watching this video made me proud and smile all the way through. Throughout our construction journey together we have all had to tough it out at times when it doesn’t always go to plan, but the quality is always remembered, cost and tribulations become distant memories. As a client you have truly embraced the cruising ideal, as a builder I am over joyed with the outcome for all of us. Fair winds and calm seas dear Wynns, you have made life time friends here in China, your adventures will bring you plenty more. Take care. Paul, James, Hudson, Seth and all your friends at HH.

    It's amazing to witness the level of commitment this manufacturer (HH) has to their customer. You can tell how happy and even emotional they were when delivering the product. This isn't something you see very often around here.

    Spectular VIDEO...I think you have captured the elements of hurry up and wait, checking, rechecking, discovery, breathing, relaxing, and settling in a single video...with good food thrown in. The new areas on a new boat to shoot video are being explored with great sound and music...10 out of 10 experience for the viewer...and most of the things we worry about never happen...10 out of 10 for the crew and you. Best Luck for the next portion of your life's experience and the Curiosity that goes with it.

      My parents had this kind of relationship until dad had a series of strokes a few years ago in his 70s. They just respected each other and enjoyed each others company. And they worked together all day too then would go out to a restaurant after work together and talk for hours. Your relationship is what you make of it, and if you respect each other there is no reason why it should ever go downhill.

      These two clearly love each other very much. It’s hard to be with anyone 24/7. Obviously, we don’t get to see the times nobody wants to videotape, so I’m sure there’s arguments like every other married couple. But it is a special relationship that they have and a unique life that they live.

    In this increasingly mad dystopian world where we witness so much horror and things that we know are increasingly unpleasant your video felt like balm to the soul. It felt warm, friendly, calm and beautiful. indeed, out of all the videos that I have watched from you both over the years I think this moved me the most. I think all of us knew just how much it meant to you to get this brand-new cutting edge boat that you’ve waited so long for actually on the water. it certainly didn’t disappoint The sails looked absolutely beautiful. The interior design, looked clean and fresh and ultramodern. Thank you for allowing us to share your wonderful adventure.

    这种出海的感觉太棒了,我还看了up说的HH造船厂的网站,非常的专业。工程师都很优秀,大多都是国外的履历。生产制造在中国应该是成本原因。
    之前有看过新西兰、台湾的那种原住民就是坐的两个小船,中间加几个横担的结构的船。在现代文明之前就可以横渡大海。这个结构的船型加上现代技术应该会很棒,这应该是两个人带着两室一厅游遍全球很经济的方式了。
    真的很棒的生活方式,祝他们一切顺利。

    Jason, here's a tip for when you are pouring out of a 5 gal bucket with a spout. It's common to want to put the spout on the low side. But if you will rotate the bucket 180 degrees and put the spout on the high side, it won't surge or "glug". It will pour smoothly and you will find it much easier to control the flow.

    • @DHClapp
      @DHClapp 3 місяці тому +8

      Not only that, but with the spout on the high side, you get to tilt the bucket pretty much right at parallel to the ground before it starts pouring, which seems like it wouldn't matter but makes it so much easier to hold steady, especially when it's full.

    • @UUBrahman
      @UUBrahman 3 місяці тому +6

      But the fall of the oil from the bucket into the funnel is increased by the width of the top of the bucket, making a miss more likely. Frankly, on a boat at sea, I don't know which way is better.

So oddly formal for a business transaction, but so fully suitable for the moment considering how much both you and the HH crew have put into this boat. For me a middle child it felt like how, how can we leave the others there. One challenge in nomadic life is the great connections we make and then break, not to be felt again for years if at all. Pandemics are hard emotionally because of that disruption. These sailors likely experience an emotional pandemic annually if not more often. I'm grateful to the scientists, for our great communication devices, phones, internet, to help soften these times.
