I think the Dark Knight Trilogy are the best superhero films ever made, and that's coming from a huge Marvel fan. As I get older, I'm starting to enjoy Batman more than Spiderman. I even enjoyed his movies more than the MCU films.

I heard an error in the first few seconds of the vid. Sony first had the IP rights to it as it was first released on PS3 and pc, under the publisher Sony Online Entertainment. Once SOE sold all their ips that was under it's umbrella it was bought and rebranded to daybreak game company.
All games under SOE were amazing until daybreak got their hands on it.

I started playing when the skill points cap was 180. As time past it went to 320. I had 305 out of the 320. I stopped playing because it became more pay to play. Fast forward I'm hearing it's like 850 SP. No way in hell I'm coming back to this grind. You would think they scrap this and move onto DCUO 2 by now. Such a failure of a.game that had remarkable potential...

Disagree. This is one of the few ftp mmo's that are actually fun and doesn't require me to keep my pc upgraded. It saves money. I wish they expanded on it actually. I don't care for realistic characters in a comicbook game. Actually think it is better than swtor.
Biggest issue is how much they try to push you to spend money to satisfy your own impatience and need for quicker rewards.

Most of the random people in ques sucked real bad, but I always thought of it as another layer of a challenge to overcome. I explored EVERY single place in the overworld for briefs and investigations (a kind of collectible) and farmed hero missions for skill points, I had like 200 when 300 were the limit, which I considered quite the feat haha

The game was very nice 10 years ago, when they added time capsules and tied skill points to it, it was damned to fail.
For those that are not familiar with time capsules, the company added boxes that drop cosmetics to the game which could be bought with real money and then they tied it to character progression in form of skill points. Many veterans ran away, sooner or later... and on top of that the cosmetics were also tied to RNG.
The game maybe has 1000 active players at the highest level across all platforms.

as of the house of legends update all dlc is free and as for artifacts and allies it’s more pay to progress quicker but it is easy to do it as you rank up from dlc 1-44, completely f2p players do have it a little harder but not impossible, premium players are pretty much best option at this point as minus the 150 replay badges and 500 marketplace currency every month plus the extra daily rewards and all powers that legendary players get there’s no difference between the two, best thing to do is one month of membership try all the powers keep the ones you want on your account and your good

  • @jmg4208
    @jmg4208 Рік тому +3

    Great first impression vid! 👍
4 points overlooked & could be worth of a mention. Since your new to the game it is not necessary easy to spot.
    1. Monetization; Model is actually better then before. Content access #DLC use to be lock behind subscriptions, it is now lock behind player's progression #artifact. This made the game more accessible to everyone, specifically FTP. But, yes the whale curve is more steep on end game.
Note* Sub is still available, it's more a season pass. Have daily rewards & extra convenience like +inventory. But it is not mandatory. *keep in mind daybreak was also brought recently by a new company focusing on mobile game. This could explain the shift, still for the better.
    2. Feats; this is what's keep me playing since 2016, awsome feature to keep you playing. As you progress in the game, everything you do will mostly have a Feat attach to it. Ex: exploration, styles, collectibles, grind, pvp, etc..This is definitely something alot of game's should learn from. Feats turns into Skill Points and those can be use to unlock.. Ex; weapons combo, mouvement, stats, dps, etc..
So this will counters (PTW shortcuts) like lvling skip, gears, artifacts .. since player's have to physically play the game to be a top dog. You will have some feats behind paywall like time capsule, but they only contribute for maybe 25% of all feats.
    3. Armory; A feature that is actually the best thing ever in MMO. You can customize combat move, styles, skills, mouvement, basically everything & save it at your lair/base. Instead of changing stance from dps to tank, like you did in video, you swap armory instead. So now, not only your loadout is different, but also the way you look, your stats. So you can kinda have 2 to 16 perso into 1 without re-doing a thing. It's brilliant !
    4. Rehashing: Biggest downer of this game personally. Aside a few DLC like Atlantis, most update re-use same asset. So map look the same, dungeons. So I'm not against it, but there is a limit before it become stale. With the monetization prices they asking it doesn't justify contents they put out over the course of 44 DLC. I feel like a cow eating the same sunburn grass patch for 7+ years, sadly.
Any other mentions is described very well explain in your video & on point!

  • @SHMEGAF
    @SHMEGAF Рік тому +2

Skillpoints arent AS important now as they used to be. Once you cap the main stats. You are set pretty much.
The arts and allies are very grindy yes. But through using the Nth metal detecters. Save the Universe event and daily login correctly. Especially if you become a legendary member. You can make the grind far less painful.
It is pay to win at times. But i have been playing freely majority of said time and have almost all i need at this point. Majority of which i have only been grinding out for a little over a year now.
I still very much enjoy the game and truth be told the game doesn't truly open up until you get to lvl 30 and explore all the content to the game.
Legends pve is anoyher fun side mode that i personally wish would get more love. New playable characters. Updated models. Etc.

You get access to all 40+ DLCs for FREE.
No need to have a Subscription anymore.
That was changed about 2 and a half years ago.
All the Subscription really give you now is Daily rewards... more bank space.... and 6 character slots instead of 2.
The people who told you that you still needed a Subscription sadly misled you.
There is a lot of Haters when it comes to DCUO..... you should be careful if you make a video using second hand information.

Good video - as a vet of this game (since beta) I'd agree except one important point - the monetization issues almost disappear if you sub, and you get a tonne of bonus stuff if you do. Just to add to the whole pay wall thing…because you need high level artifacts(160+ x3 at least) to be competent at your role, the game PUSHES YOU BUT NOT FORCE you to spend money in order to play because
    1) if you don’t have highs artifacts it’s hard to do your role and will leave u frustrated especially as a newer player breaking into endgame content when you not able to do your role properly.
    2) groups tend to ask for certain artifact combos when forming
    3) bad performance can lead you to being black listed from the end game content groups
    4) if your arts are low, 8/10 you will get kicked
    5) there’s no tutorial when it comes to using artifacts taught by the game so people just throw on anyone’s that sound cool and level them up with their money just to find out they aren’t good artifacts
    6) lack of fresh content and lack of unique mechanics
Artifacts/ dps comps ruined the potential for the game but made daybreak a lot of money from the business side. We didn’t have artifacts when the game first started up until like 2017? So the way they made money was through time capsules and replays mostly and tokens.
Finally the leaderboard system. The current state of dc is all about the leaderboard and nothing else. That is the only thing keeping the game engaging for almost all the end game players. But created a toxic community that only cared about the scoreboard and who was on top. Top mmos like ESO do not have a leaderboard and their community as large as it is barely has toxicity amongst them.
Just my two sense on the state of the game atm.

im a 10k hr player. theres 2 big things wrong with DCUO.
1: the money hungry devs who grab us by our ankles and shake us to see what falls out.
2: the community its self. most of the community complain the noobs have no idea what to do. then complain theres not enough players for higher content whilst refusing to help anyone newer to gear up to join endgame.
the poor newer players are left with a system of 'grind your ass off in content no longer used or buy your way up.'
the game could be so much more lively and genuinely better if the devs got rid of the p2w crap and the players gave a shit about the game they love.

The most similar competitor (as another superhero themed MMORPG) out there and active is Champions Online, which afaik doesn't get any updates besides maybe new shop items, but not pay 2 win. It is kind of sad that there are only these two official options in this subgenre (+ some private City of Heroes versions). There were some projects, but I haven't heard about them in ages.

Again, like I said, I’m pretty sure that that’s no longer a thing all players free to play or not get access to all the content the last time I played you did it used to be based on the sub but I don’t think it is anymore. the sub is more revolving around things like getting the keys for the lock boxes that you pick up getting, I don’t even remember what the sub does anymore because the last time I played I didn’t solve it wasn’t needed anymore. The sub used to unlock the limits on how much you could spend. For instance, you could only hold 2000 and at the rest when an escrow when you spent 2000 it would get replaced at escrow but your max purchase was 2000 that was eliminated years and years ago. I honestly can’t even talk about what the sub gives you as far as perks go now because I didn’t find it necessary. The last of my played at all and die. If I don’t have to buy a sub if I don’t feel like I have to buy it then nobody feels like it if I play elder scrolls, you gotta buy the sub if you play, fallout 76 you gotta buy the sub for the same reason unlimited crafting stash in both caseseverything else is just a perk to get with it but that unlimited stash required. If you’re gonna play the game seriously this game didn’t feel like that was necessary.

I think the biggest issue with that type of monetization is that eventually the only audience left will be those who opted to invest in it which only serves to reinforce it's presence in the game even with new players, but the reality is far fewer players exist of that caliber than casuals that don't want to shell out their entire paycheck to compete.
And since changing that structure or removing the p2w is guaranteed to piss off the people who have already paid but will not guarantee the growth and revival of the game, it's just stuck. Destined to die slowly as better games come out and all but the most die hard DC fans make their Exodus.

I didn't know it is from daybreak too. Damn it is crazy how many big licenses they own or at least the MMOs. I feel like they should take the risk and invest a lot in those. Especially in the marketing and technical base. If I was daybreak I would hire a team to work on a new decent looking engine and then port the games over step by step. One nice engine for lotro, ddo and dcuo would actually justify any cost. I also believe to start with the base game of each as a pilot project might be a nice idea. So transfer the vanilla experience as a test and when it gets a big enough audience continue this way. Great Video as always! And again get well soon!

I’m pretty sure housing works on the friendship type set up I don’t recall, but I think that in order to go in someone else’s house, someone else is Larry have to be made a friend and a allowed access and then when you go to the door to that particular layer you will have choices. I’m not positive but it seems to me I remember something About that where you normally would just enter your layer at a given entrance like if if you choose the original tiny little air which honestly is all you need, you can put all the crafting tables in it and and the bank in the in the market everything can fit in that layer was designed that way so you can have all the functionality in one space and not have to fly all over your big ass layer if you choose that one you enter Fuck I can’t remember where the entry point is but I’m pretty sure when you walk up to the entry point if other people have that same layer and your friended you can enter theirs. Otherwise you know you gotta know where their layer is and go to the door personally that’s the letter I use because what the fuck is your layer for a few loadout things and crafting tables so you can fast travel to your layer do your shit and then Fast travel back where you wanna gowithout running all over one of the bases and by the way, that little layer has a vendor right outside the door so you got everything you need right there

Your movement ability. This is a role-playing game. OK I’m in certainly there are people who only play Meadows but when you’re playing brawler character like Superman or the Superman abilities, you don’t choose super speed, but when you’re playing a character, that’s acrobatic you don’t choose flying and likewise, if you have a speed you choose super speed, it’s a role-play game. If you’re not playing it to play the role of a DC hero with certain abilities, similar to known hero then you’re doing the wrong thing you’re turning it into a job instead of an escape from reality and fun.

  • @Mantaforce2
    @Mantaforce2 Місяць тому

Flying is kinda lame tbh. Easy to use and definitely the traversal of choice if you are lazy, but as far as having fun while traveling is concerned, it gets old quickly.
Super speed is definitely the most chaotic of the 3. You can use your momentum while running up a building to fling yourself into the air or become a living fidget spinner by running around a thing horizontal object like an overhead traffic light.
Acrobatic essentially turns you into pseudo-spiderman and also allows you to glide. It's the most balanced mix of ease of use and fun.

You really don’t have to buy anything to play the game but when you do, it’s not expensive I I think I outed my entire layer with every crafting bench every vendor thing like the bank that the marketplace all of that, and I don’t think it cost me 25 bucks, in elder scrolls online it would cost me five or $600 to do the same thing

The combat in this game is far superior to the button mashing in video video may be more particle effects and more spectacular to watch on the screen although I don’t agree I think it’s just annoying, but it’s not better and it certainly isn’t console friendly by any stretch video is a PC game ported the consul not very well mind you but ported the consul. The user interface is designed for the PC and it’s still designed for the PC even on consul, the game itself is designed for the PC to be good at it. You have to play it on the PC actions that can be mapped. The buttons need to be mapped to buttons only available on the PC on the console people just smash buttons this game, however, let you choose how to string together, combos which ability to use at any given moment, as what’s appropriate at any given moment, this game has real rotations i.e. one ability, setting up another ability, setting up another ability done, and in a series repeated until you’ve killed. Whatever it is video you just smashed buttons till it’s dead.

As far as the content of the game goes, I really wish that those DLCs would actually give us massive cities to explore, but what we get are at most a few sections of what a city or island would be and the instances of the dungeons/raids. I felt really scammed when i saw that starting areas like Metropolis and Gothan were so massive and imersive and then when we get to central city for the flash DLC we got only a few blocks.
As for the quests, i disagree on the point of them being pointless like what we saw from WoW quests where you just go, kill x creatures because a random person told you to only to get the xp, the quests on this game felt actually important for the lore of the world and your character, for example, when you start at Metropolis, your first quest is to go and help with the goriklla attack caused by Grod and even though the start kinda feels like "ok, so I am just killing creatures for XP" the quest goes on evolving up to the point where you are actually helping some iconic character to fight an iconic villain and for this specific quest, you end up having to halp the flash beat up Grod.
So unlike WoW that made me feel like a peasant helping other peasants and never actually felt like someone important to the world, DC Universe really give you the fantasy of being this hero on the rise that will constantly be disrupting plans from iconic villains (or helping them in case you are a villain).
I had a blast playing the game, but honestly, i felt it was under-delivering in some aspects, they really watered down the pvp mechanics, which was a shame and the DLCS felt underwhelming in terms of content which was also sad, I really hoped they would build up this massive world with massive cities rather then 2 cities and loads of small scale instances.
It got to the point where i really didn´t want to keep the VIP just to enjoy the game to the fullest, because i felt there was too little to enjoy.

I loved DCU Online when it released. I bought it (back when that was a thing) day one and made a bunch of my buddies grab it too.
We had fun with it initially, but as you correctly point out the questing/story is more than a little flat and they fell off it.
I tried to stick with it and focused on my character, but then there was some sort of ownership move and I lost my account and character.
I came back to it a few years ago and levelled up again, but I dont think its stood the test of time as well as its fellow old skool MMOs. The story is especially frustrating later when it makes you plays as iconic heroes rather than your character, that kinda killed it for me.
I think you have a great take on it tho. There is some fun to be had, especially if you like DC or supers, but I don't see this as anyones 'main' MMO

One of the biggest issues I had with DCUO was time gating. New players won't see this, older players are mostly unaffected. Its when a new player who gets drawn into the game starts progressing their gear and runs into a wall. Let me see if I can break it down (and understand this is an experience that is not recent, but a few years old, changes may have happened since I last played).
Max level in DCUO is 30. The mainstory will take you there in a few sessions (maybe 2-3 if you chug through it, but most will take roughly a week or two). Once you reach 30, your level is replaced by your gear score. I can't remember what its called, but we'll go with gear score. Once you finish some of the main story I believe it gives you a set of gear to get started in some of the first instances. Some of these are 1 man, some are 2 man (I believe) and one or two 4 man (again going based off of a memory here).
There are bonuses you get for daily runs. Bigger bonuses for weeklies, and even bigger bonuses for monthlies. These all give tokens for the tier you are in. So the first tier gave enough tokens and you used these to buy T1 gear. You needed to do this to get the required gear score for the next tier. Then you need to do the same in the new tier.
Here's the issue. As you progress tiers, you need more tokens to buy each piece of gear. But you can only run things a certain number of times. If you have a subscription, this gets a little better. But even trying to buy your way through this grind doesn't (or wasn't when I played last) really work as an option. There is also no reason to run lower tiers because you need so many tokens per piece of gear that you'd be running these instances like hundreds of times (but they have cooldowns as well, so grinding them out wasn't an option).
You simply needed to wait till the next day once your dailies were done. Next week for the weeklies. Next month for the monthlies.
This made grouping with other players a chore. You needed to be in a guild (or league I think its called), or have friends to run with. Otherwise it was going to be all solo. There is solo instances you can run. But without the ability to run the group dungeons your progress is going to be even slower.
You're personal skill and the amount of time you have to play the game will not matter. You will progress at a set rate, alone. And the worst thing was.. ok.. I played WoW back in 2006-2009, where we had a limited number of Heroic Dungeons you could do, and one raid a week. How is that different? Well cut that content up into tiers that made previous dungeons obsolete, and later ones off limits until you had a full set of gear, and there's not much in the way of drops in the dungeons (as far as I remember).
Its almost like once you reach level 30, they discourage you from playing. And I don't remember if the timers were account wide or not. I think they were, which meant working up alts wasn't really a thing, at least I don't remember that being an option. Again old memory here.
I hope that was all revamped for anyone looking to play. But the last time I played left a really bad taste in my mouth. And thing was, it wasn't even an issue of being a free to play player. I was subbed. I had an all access membership since I was playing Planetside 2 and Everquest at the time. All Access its quite the deal because you get subscriber benefits across Everquest, Everquest 2, Planetside 2, and DCUO. If you play just two of those games, its one of the best bargains you can find.
They definitely should get the time gates out. Even for the freebie players. They can just give bonuses to subscribers as an incentive. But they also need to work in a system similar to how FFXIV is with lower tier content. Give bonuses to veteran players to run random tier stuff that will scale their power down, but give them at tier rewards to help the newbies get caught up and reduce those queue times. Again.. if they haven't already since I've not played this in a few years, so I'm not certain about the current state.

I skimmed through your comment, a lot has changed, their's still a lot of room for improvement but you still have a lot of p2w stuff can be acquired though in-game currency. Theirs still a time-gate for dailies and weeklys, no monthlies. As for the instances (solo,duo,4p,8p) the 3 latest episodes are time-gated, you can replay all the rest of the content at will.
The biggest problem right now is server imbalance between hero's and villains. Villain side is almost dead compared to hero's side. Also the game is really old and running on an almost skeleton crew. The lastest 8P raid is a square box where you fight 3 boxes and the previous ones weren't better. Granted they have mechanics rather than just beating a HP bag.

A lot of that time gating has been removed entirely and only applies to the most recent DLC.
I leveled up some alts and their CR by doing one raid over and over because it's super fast.
