      @@metanefridija they should have kept Claire, because when Season 2 ended, it was the early 1960's when Elizabeth was 35, then Season 3 begins in the late 1960'sthey replace her with Oliva who is almost 50! very BAD CASTING!!!!!!!!

      If you want to blow your mind, look at the live coverage of the 1970 General Election. It is spectacular and looks and feels so modern, I've seen worse from the mid 1980s.

      When things are shot on good film and well preserved they can be converted into digital at pretty much any resolution. That is why the wizard of oz for example can get a 4k version.

    Fun fact: Caenaforn castle was used as a filming location for the scene in the Crown that depicts this very event. (In other words the scene for the show was filmed where it took place in real life.)

      @M J The television networks in the States went full color in 1966. The first show I remember watching in color was "Batman". We still had B/W TV sets in our home so I watched it with a neighbor.

    He just looks so sad. He keeps looking at his mother for some kind of affection or something, and she just looks at everything and anything but at him. It really is sad.

    This BBC coverage is amazing. "The Crown" really played down the hype surrounding the investiture. I had no idea that Prince Charles investiture had so much international attention.

      Eugeniya Leshenko, The episode did not focus on the international interest of the investiture. It concentrated on what the Welsh felt about Charles and Charles relationship with his Welsh professor and the queen. In my opinion, it portrayed the investiture as only something the U.K. was mildly interested in.

But since it's TV and time is limited here, they chose to focus on several aspects -diplomatic mission to patch things up with Wales, and relationship between Charles and the Queen. That's how TV works

      Eugeniya You don’t have to agree. You’re entitled to your own opinion. The BBC coverage shows more than it being broadcasted globally. The Japanese Prime Minister actually came to the event, Japan is certainly not a commonwealth country. I think the show missed an opportunity, to highlight the UK’s soft cultural power that it has via the royal family outside of the commonwealth and 🇬🇧.

    This episode of crown3 was one of my favorite episode on crown series. I always thought prince charles as a bad and unfaithful person, but watching the crown i touched and admire of his personality. Love this show so much

      Charles had a very difficult, unloving upbringing. He is a good and kind man who has done a lot of good work.
      He was unfaithful to Diana because he always loved Camilla whom he couldn't marry. The one big mistake of his life was not to stand up to his parents about his choice of wife - but if you watch the show you'll realise how difficult it would have been for a sensitive boy who was always bullied by his parents.

      We all don’t know how he is real life. Don’t forget the director can make the worse of people be loved by viewers.
      I do admit that royals had it harder back in the day before their belief system evolved. Honestly if I was Charles I would have pushed to marry Camilla and not let it slide.

    I was 9 years old watching this in 1969 with my great great uncle born in 1890. He took the monarchy very seriously and with reference. He fought in WWI and had lots of stories. Looking forward to May 6 2023. God bless the King.

    It's fantastic to watch this again. I remember watching this in school as an' 8 year old on a black and white TV. Its hard to believe this was over 50 years ago . It was refreshing to hear Richard Baker saying for those of you who are not watching in colour.

    Previously I hated Charles because of leaving Diana..... But after crown I started sympathising with him as a troubled soul forced to live a cold life with a cold heart. My son is almost his age now..... I can feel the emptiness of his soul. Like u Charles.....like my son

    I'm from Caernarfon. The filming took all week for The Crown, pretty much everyone in the town got involved as extras, but the town shots shown in the final episode were sooooo brief 🤣🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

    The hat of the Queen seems like it has a reminiscent reference to something worn in the 1500 or 1600s. That's the only time women seemed to wear a hat of this design. Wouldn't have been my first pick either, but I'll bet it has a historical meaning behind it.

    Watch Princess Margaret’s startled reaction at 1:28:54...she had heard an explosion in the distance. Unknown to the crowd and to viewers watching, dissidents had attempted to bomb the event but were intercepted.

      point of order: i cannot find anything that mentions an explosion during the speech, only an explosion early that morning and various explosions in the weeks and months surrounding the speech.

      Graham Floyd It featured on a documentary recently aired on ITV in the UK called Charles 50 Years a Prince, where more details were revealed. If you listen very closely you can hear the muffled sound at that point. It was also revealed that earlier two dissidents were ‘taken out’ by special forces.

      at 1:27:34 you can clearly here some kind of an explosion in distance... and the queen does seem bothered by something on 1:28:20 and on, but I can't hear it at the mark you mentioned. Maybe the princess was distracted by the response of some of the security guards.

    Announcer said Charles was first to speak Welsh since the English took title. Not true .. Prince Edward studied it at university and spoke it at Caenavron in 1911 at his investiture. In subsequent years, Prince Edward spoke often in Welsh to crowds travelling throughout Wales.
    So Prince Edward was first, and certainly had a stronger grasp of the Welsh language than his successor.

      @smadge100 I mean, you would have probably done the same (collaborated with the Nazis) to get the Crown back after you were "forced" to give it away just because your wife was divorced twice. Britain didn't look that strong after Dunkerque.

    Nice to see a cameo by Sir Rodin Cutler, former Governor of New South Wales. He visited our school once; he looked extremely vice-regal, but I remember him being very warm and friendly to us kids, he seemed to enjoy having a chat. A very nice man.

    Wales has it's own royal family, the House of Aberffraw. The Head of this family is Evan Anwyl of Tywyn. He lives in Gwynedd, North Wales. He is descended in the male line from Rhodri II, Prince of Gwynedd.

    Both Richard Baker and Cliff Michelmore had long distinguished journalist careers with the BBC, enjoying lengthy retirement, living into their 90s and passing away fairly recently. Michelmore died in 2016 aged 96, two months after David Bowie died, whom he had interviewed when the legendary singer was an unknown appearing on the BBC's Tonight Show in 1964. The clip is on UA-cam. Baker died this month last year (Nov 2018) aged 93.

    The reason they took so long to have his formal investiture, is simply because the Queen wanted him to be old enough to understand the significance of what he was taking on and to behave himself on such a solemn occasion.
