I'm sure I will be coming back to rewatch this over and over , Thank you for sharing all your wisdom , these lessons are priceless, you are appreciated my man !!!
Hey Jerry, I hope one day I get to see you out there so I can shake your hand. The amount of information you share is incredible, and for an old dog like me who is just getting back into the game this is excellent. A lot of real good stuff in this video. Thanks again.
Hi Lens! Same here much appreciate there is so much to do with the bucktail it goes on and on wish i got more in there little tidbits for always another day. Thanks as always Lens
My friends, here it’s the kind of knowledge we should listen to be a master on the field of the BT presentation, from driving to work to the dentist waiting room, we must listen to this fisherman, A clip to be share and to be watched more than once along the season, excellent work Jerry!!
Hi Mags! Thanks so much as always for the words. Dusted off the fly tackle and oddly just in from playing with some fly lines in the park and read your comment made the day. so many points to hit with the bucktail I hope I hit the key ones and thank you for the feedback!
Hi Jerry! Thank you so much for taking the time to sharing your years of experience and knowledge in all your videos. You truly give me confidence I need to be more successful fishing. I always heard of others hooking up with buck tails, but I have not much luck and confidence using them. This year, just 3 weeks ago, I caught my first fish on a small bucktail when nothing else was working. I caught several bluefish afterwards when my go to lures; metals, SP Minnows, Mag Darters, and soft plastics were not working. This guy name Mike on the beach was the only one hooking up. I walked over and he put me on it his method and it was a bucktail to my surprise. I asked him if I could see what he was using. focused on the size, color and trailer. I asked if I could watch his cadence, he showed me and he hooked up right on the first cast when i was standing next to him. After that experience and watching this entire video, I am truly inspired and excited to get back out there and "fishing your way" using bucktails. I truly believe I will have so much success. Have a blessed year and stay well!
Hi Harry thanks loved the comment! Once you get the feel it goes much easier from there. Most any fish will hit them to. Do keep in mind ANY jig can be fished the same way, they are all jigs! Thank you for the words Harry
Your description of “swing” is great - I mostly lure fish in streams for trout swinging spoons and spinners and it is so much fun - same concept. I tried it last year in salt water with stripers like you showed but still getting the hang of it - only little schoolies so far - I know there are bigger ones!
Thats awesome so direct as such all can be applied back and forth a matter of tackle and size up/down etc but the action all lies the same, thanks much for watching commenting and subscribing Ben!
Jerry I absolutely love this video! So much information and gold nuggets on this lure! My favorite UA-cam video on bucktails! Thank you so much for putting all this hard work into this!
I appreciate the details in your video, I am new to stripped bass fishing and this gave me a good idea on how to start and what lures to use. Great video and thanks again...
A master level class in fishing with a jig! I've read all the books and have never found any that come close to your info on this subject, Jerry. Obviously the result of years of experience and a systematic/analytical approach to fishing. Can't thank you enough for sharing.
@David: absolutely correct! I have learned so much on Jerrys channel. I am passing by every 2-3 weeks and Jerrys explanations are sometimes a little like sesamestreet and that is the best way you can offer information. You recognize how much Jerry has been thinking about this. I especially loved his herring tackle vid. Keep them coming Jerry! BTW: they also use bucktails in scandinavia to fish in the deeper ponds of fast streaming rivers for lax.
Thanks Robert, they are super jigs for about anything. some years back when I did a lot of river fishing we would call them hair jigs much lighter version for smallmouth and walleye I fished a bit around middletown to, the home of Bob's clouser minnow!

I was a research scientist for 40 years, so I know it when I see it and this video on jig fishing demonstrates it very well.
You definitely don’t want that blue to get your fingers. But he almost got your bait and tackle when he swung between your legs. Great vid. Thank you for sharing. Much appreciated
Jerry, this video is so well done. I've watched it several times, it is so useful and educational. You should see the Florida pier anglers looking at me strange when I put felt trailers on. They all think you have to use the latest expensive "Googan" brand stuff .
Hi Jerry, Great information on what is the proper Bucktail for each condition. You are the "Master." I forgot to tell you that I am moving to Poplar Bluff, Missouri on Saturday. I'm leaving South Jersey with my daughter and son-in-law. They both work from home since the pandemic and decided to move back to my son-in-law's home town. The cost of living there is very low. I guess I'll be doing fresh water fishing from now on. I'll still be watching all your videos. My heart is still in salt water fishing. Take care and good luck, Mickey

When I first started fishing learning on my own, I'd wish someone would told me how WEIGHT on any lure is the most important part of jig fishing, took me almost a year to learn the right weight for certain water flows
I’ve been casting these jigs since I was 8 years old,… I’m 63 now …. suffice it to say,… these are not a new thing but quite reliable in fishing many species west or east coast, north and south and all over the world We also used pork skin tails made by Uncle Josh’s in a little glass jar ,.. Btw ,.. we on the west cast big lures 3 to 6 oz. in the surf I have a BURNING QUESTION,… why are you guys so afraid of conventional reels .??????????????? I own very nice spinning reels but I never use them for the simple fact that there is way too much shit going on like the bale,… WTF do you actually need a bale for.????? And for a reel that will never ever cast as far as a conventional reel and the they can cost over $1000 for no reason other than a name brand Just sayin guys,… don’t waste your money on $1000 spinning reels ,… I have vintage,.. never been used ABU reels 7000c 9000c and 10000c ,… these reels will out perform most new reels of today ,… I found these on the “bay of evil” I got them for a few hundred a piece… great deal on 50 year old unused reels..!🤙😎👍
really learned a lot from your video. Enjoy your way of explaining things too... and I've got some ideas on using felt now. Never considered it as an option. One critique is your audio is down right painful, as in physical, to my ears when I listen. I have to wear a headset or ear buds. With the scratchy high-pitched as well as significantly inconsistent volume levels it sure would help if you got a better mic and normalized the audio when you edit the video before upload. Again it's a critique not a complaint, your content is so much more and your love of teaching definitely comes out. Thanks so very much!

Outstanding jerry. Would it be better to direct tie braid to leader or barrel swivel ? Spring is on its way hope we have a good season ! I received a fly vise for Christmas. Been tying teasers all winter can’t wait ! Always a pleasure to watch pal thanks for sharing your expansive knowledge!
Thank you Hooper, yes great question it certainly may. I generally will tie direct fishing around heavy structure just one less piece of tackle to use. Many prefer to tie as such and I do as well some say it presents better as well. Clear water may make the difference. Did a bunch of teasers myself and still going at it!
