    great vid, you got more fish in it than i did in the past 3 months. wish i coulda fished LI for the fall run. here in NJ there wasnt even a run, just a slow pick here and there. there hasn't been one consistent body of fish along the entire coastline all season. i'd be happy to run into schoolies or even blues let alone sizeable bass. hoping the spring wont suck as much. glad you got good action, thanks for the video.

    John, can I use the bucktail without the pork rind? Just the bucktail itself with naked hook. Will that work at all? If not, are there any alternatives? Such as a piece of frozen fish from a local grocery store, or some sort of meat?Also, how do I attach the pork rind to the bucktail? Just hook it on? Is there a certain "technique" to it? I would like to see a video where you set up your rig. How you tie your knots, how you attach the bucktai to the line, etc.

    John,
    when you are tossing such weighted bucktail (2oz) in a wind of 30mph plus. Is the wind blowing onto the beach or against? i am facing with the dilemma that with northeast or east wind howling at 30mph (here in New jersey) it would be quite difficult to toss even a 2ouncer against such wind no? On your video I do see lots of fishy white water all around but curious to know pratically on ALL of your fishing videos wind and tide conditions you are fishing in. BTW I know you had mentioned it on several vids

    The first time I caught a striped bass on a bucktail I was holding the pole under my armpit with the bucktail dangling in the water near my feet on the rock keep in mind I was not fishing yet . Then I felt my pole trying to drop from my armpit . looking down near my feet it was a Bass inhale my bucktail . That was the only bass I ever caught on a bucktail . I can't say I caught it more like it caught it self . I have been trying for so long not even a hit . just have to keep on trying till I get it .

    I was thinking about getting this Rod with 1 foot off the butt. What do you think it's lure rating would be with 1 foot off the butt. By the way I'm the kid who gave you the 2 1/2 oz wine red bucktail.

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  8 років тому

      +Daniel C Surfcasting Hi Daniel! The rod in this video is an 11-footer, it's not the one that I cut down. My 9-footer that I use in most of my bass videos is cut from a 10-foot blank. The sweet spot for that rod is two ounces, but it is great i the 1-3-ounce range. I also fish rigged eels with it, and I bet they weigh a little more than 3 ounces. Thanks for the bucktail!

      +John Skinner Fishing I know it not your LamiGlass 120 1L with 1 foot off the butt I have that Rod. I was wondering about the 132 1M used in this video do you think one foot off the butt would change it a lot? I'm looking for a Rod that can handle lures from 2-4 well. So I was thinking the GSB 132 1M with 1 foot off. Do you think it would be good for that?

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing

    Something that I have always wondered about your videos is.. Obviously when we edit videos, we try to just show catching fish or something informative and we usually skip showing all of the useless casts in between but what I am wondering is.. How often were you actually hooking up to fish in this video? Which kind of leads me to my main question, If I am fishing a spot that meets all of the criteria to make it a "good" spot for bass, and I start fishing it and dont immediately get fish, how much time would you think is reasonable to spend in a spot before moving to another spot?

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  5 років тому +1

      This video I stepped out of the truck and had one on the first cast, then about a dozen in total for the 90 minutes going into dusk. I'll put 30 minutes into a spot I have confidence in, but will make a small move of a few yards if I go 2 or three casts without a hit in a setting like this.

I tried the uncles Josh's pork grind without luck but it was the red and white ( they didn't have all white). do you think the color matters that much? also there was a cpl other guys on the jetty with me using the new 6.5 inch gulp nemesis in the chartuse color. they hooked up jigging that and it seemed like a good set up and I'm going to try it this weekend. have you tried that yet and what do you think it so.
