I’ve been playing coach mode a bit during my dynasty I’ve done for like 2 seasons after seeing you and a few others do it. And this is what I’ve seen and read that helps a bit: I haven’t tried it with the triple option, but with read option, if you player lock onto the HB, the QB will decide whether to hold onto it or give it to the HB. I also do this during RPOs and the QB will still decide to throw or hand off. You can also lock onto him during a play action if he will move towards the qb after the ball is hiked and go onto his route. If you user throw during a screen, the receiver will run up the field without having to be controlled. I sometimes lock onto the TE if he’s an option. But the QB tends to throw it to the HB in those cases. There are certain plays you can lock onto receivers (some slants) and they’ll move on their own, but most of the time they will just sit there if you don’t move. Sorry for the long post. Hope it helps! Slow sim could possibly be another route to a semi coach mode experience. I haven’t really played it myself to see how it does in CF 25. But it could be another way to test your team without you in control.
@@CK-py5hb That’s perfect feedback. I think this supports Kofie’s theory that the coach mode is designed poorly. Every snap the QB waits a half second for user movement, and if there isn’t any, then the play proceeds. But if you switch off the QB, the game isn’t waiting for your input on him. It’s waiting for your input on the running back, which is no issue. The QB behavior is autonomously simulated, So that’s why it’s been working for you pretty well. However this is all messed up when you do have your user on him. You’re right that slow sim gives a similar experience to what coach mode should be, that’s why i’m so confused why they couldn’t just execute it like that
@@gabecox3548 Yeah I agree 100%. It shouldn’t be this tedious to force the offense to work semi autonomously when it seems capable to in slow sim. It honestly feels like coach mode is there to just automate QB passing to make it easier to throw to the first receiver that seems open first and freezes up when there’s nothing available for you to control the scramble. Kofie really put that into perspective for me when he talked about the coach mode wording in CF 25.
I got a Kent State dynasty going and a couple things I noticed is one the CPU DBs and LBs have the hands and catch radius of Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald. Like my first game against Pitt I threw like 3 picks but I let it slide because I was like Pitt is a better team with better players. However the second game I played was against an FCS school and these dudes had like 6 picks and like 4 of them were like some prime Ed Reed/ Santonio Holmes in the Super Bowl type catches. And some Superman type flying for deflections. The other thing that bothers me is how many jet sweeps the CPU run. I played Penn St and no bs they ran that lil jet sweep touch pass like 20 times in a row
Yeah, the int’s are bad in this game. A DB intercepted my pass and never turned his head. It was nuts. That would be disgusting to play against. They have to fix that. The CPU runs way more after the update too. Most teams favor the pass now. I don’t know if they’ll get it right.
@@kevinhatten33 haven’t touched it after the update but I saw that they patched some stuff like the FCS teams being hard and the scrambler ATH/QBs so hopefully playcalling was included or next
It’s weird because I just did a little testing with Air Force and the speed option in coach mode and in those places the QB will actually make an decision either pitch or kept the ball. Wish I could test more but I only have the trial but there’s definitely something up with the read option
I think the game looks at the read option and the speed option differently. The QB will pass or keep it on a speed option, but they never keep it on a read option. They won’t pass the ball on screen passes to RB’s either.
9:55 i actually think its a gameplay flaw overall, i was looking for a team to run with so i was testing out teams/playbooks in play now randomized the computer and got Navy...they FB had like 30+ carries😂 they gave it to him everytime the ran triple option
I'm not sure if coach mode lets you do this, but have you tried switching off of him pre-snap (circle) to a HB or WR and player locking (double tap LS)? It's annoying af because you have to do it every play and it's absolutely bizarre that coach mode just doesn't work but when I want to play a WR on a pass for example that lets the QB run through his stuff automatically for me. Not sure if the auto control of the WR/HB would work in that case either.
@@jmiyagi12345which is so stupid. These players are only there for 4yrs while the dynasty could go on 20+ and I can't change their names and stuff??? Trash.
@@jmiyagi12345 It _literally_ isn't a legal issue though. And we know it isn't a legal issue to have created players, because you CAN create players, it's just restricted to RTG. We also know isn't a legal issue to edit player ratings, because you CAN edit player ratings, just not from within dynasty mode (even though there is a dedicated setting for it that doesn't work) These things have never been "legal issues" for any other sports game in any other franchise EVER. I have no idea why people are inventing this nonsensical excuse to defend EA removing features from the game, something they have a long history of doing
Game one in coach mode, I grew concerned because I was anticipating the QB to eventually pull the ball back and run with it. Never happened. The gameplay on coach mode is a copy and paste version of Madden. Could this be the beginning of another title from EA to bank in on micro transactions and ignore previous year's features that kept our attention? I really hope EA does right with coach mode corrections.
It’s been this way for years in Madden with coach mode too. I use it every year still but if my QB hasn’t thrown the ball within seconds I will take over. I’d rather not but no other option due to the limitations you mention. Also find that they always throw to the closest receiver which often means that they throw to the back who is half way towards running out of bounds so often ends up with a hell of a lot of third downs!
That's annoying. On certain option plays as a QB in road to glory, I'll snap the ball and just be stuck in place, incapable of moving or pitching the ball to avoid being tackled for a big loss.
I don't really play coach mode, but for what it's worth, I have found that the hand off is often the best choice when doing the option. In my current dynasty, I was OC at Iowa State for 4 seasons and am the HC at Florida now. I've had scambling/improvising QBs for 4 of my 5 seasons and in spite of this I feel like I always get more productive downs by handing the ball off in the option. It feels like even the speedier QBs don't get past the line of scrimmage very quickly. You can even sort of test this for yourself. Since the game will track average yardage gained on each play, just pick one option play where you always hand it off no matter what and another where the QB keeps it no matter what and see the difference. Handing the ball off is the meta to the option game in CFB 25 like the QB keepers were the meta in NCAA 14. It's like the games swapped places.
I bet if they had kept the old option controls the QB would keep it every time. Not pressing X in 25 means to handoff, and to your point about the setting, coach mode seems to be designed for passing only, so the game is reading you wanting to handoff the ball
Coach mode fan from way back. Started playing the game exclusively this way back with NCAA 06! Back then, it was just turning on “auto throw”. Same shortcomings as you are seeing here (QB never scrambled, etc). EA recognizing that a lot of people liked to play this way and (eventually) implementing it as a formal game mode was huge. Too bad they’ve taken it away. Irritating that they just renamed the “auto throw” setting as “coach mode”. Feels kind of disingenuous.
Yup no way im buying the game now i only play cpu v cpu and the fact that you cant watch other teams games or have a semblance of realism when it comes to ai decisions makes it a no go
I think the issue is that it's mislabeled. It should be called "QB autopilot" and they should just make an actual coach mode that works the way it has in the past.
Are there any glaring issues with coach mode while playing defense? In the old games, i would typically take full control on offense, but just call plays on defense and keep my hands off the sticks.
I've tried it in the last 5 Madden games. Coach mode has no AI logic. Receivers are open; throw it away. Receiver has double coverage on him; throw it to him. It's a run play; eveyone falls back deep. It's a throw; CB and S stop moving till the ball is thrown and caught in stride. I hate it so much.
Idk if this would be better, I know coach mode sucks, but if you super sim on the slowest setting it DOES allow you to watch (not pick the plays) which I know isn't quite what you're looking to do. I just now found this out as I hadn't owned any recent madden games, didn't know that super simming on slowest setting allowed you to spectate. Regardless, my QB did run while in this spectating mode. 100% understand this isn't the same as coach mode but it is an alternative option. Just thought I'd share as I thought you couldn't even spectate your own team's games this whole time....
In theory, this should be a simple fix. I've watched the computer make plenty of correct reads, good scrambles, etc when I'm on defense. They just need to make it so that coach mode uses that same logic
Bro you’re not tripping, these flaws are 100% accurate, I knew about these flaws previously because these same flaws were in madden. I have switched to cpu vs cpu now due to this problem.
I am enjoying the game but why doesn’t Road to Glory go beyond the first year? I would have thought it would at least give you 4 years even if the objective was to win a championship and the Heisman
I love coach mode cause of you but I for now just lean in to it and only recruit strong pocket passers and if possible always give my QB a hot route in case of pressure I have also found screens are nearly impossible without you tapping the button they'll almost always hold on too long
Bro, this is exactly how I play the game too and I played NCAA 14 the same way I have found some settings and sliders that you’re not gonna believe but make Coach mode much more realistic. Believe it or not the settings I found that are great is to put your your difficulty setting to all American You’re gonna put your QB accuracy and your wide receiver catching and all of that to 75. You’re gonna put your offensive line blocking both passing and defensive to 100 on the flipside you’re gonna take your computer sliders and you’re gonna put computer access to seven but you’re gonna put the blocking 100 you’re gonna take the receiver and put it to 20 or 25 you get the general idea now you’ll have to tweak all the settings to get what makes it feel good to you, but this is how off-balance to the game is, Heisman does nothing but allow the computer to completely cheat. It freezes your players and place takes horrible angles is a CPU is.😊
Oh yeah, Coach mode is not actual Coach mode the way it used to be. That’s because this game is basically a rescan of madden which also had this form of coach mode. It’s not NCAA coach mode.
It seems like it wouldn't be that hard to just impose the already existing opponent AI system onto the user's team after the snap and then just turn it off when a button is pressed. Or... Why do we need the ability to take over mid-play anyway? As is said, maybe that half-expectation is the wrench in the gears.

The game is missing the feel. I want to recruit and create a lightning fast dynasty team. I want to watch them cut and carve through defenses through four years, this game just doesn’t do that at all. I wish they would’ve taken NCAA 14 and just put it on a newer platform.
Basically, there is no Coach Mode. Hopefully we'll get that at some point.
I’ve been playing coach mode a bit during my dynasty I’ve done for like 2 seasons after seeing you and a few others do it. And this is what I’ve seen and read that helps a bit:
I haven’t tried it with the triple option, but with read option, if you player lock onto the HB, the QB will decide whether to hold onto it or give it to the HB.
The gameplay is great but the game options are so hollow. Not being able to edit anything makes it so it isn’t addicting.
This is something that will never be "fixed" because in the dev teams mind, this isn't broken.
Or they think people don’t care about it. I hope they fix it, but like you I don’t think they will.
I honestly avoid reality dating shows like it’s the plague but do you Kofie. That’s the beauty of having your own channel.
It’s weird because I just did a little testing with Air Force and the speed option in coach mode and in those places the QB will actually make an decision either pitch or kept the ball. Wish I could test more but I only have the trial but there’s definitely something up with the read option
Maybe it’s tied to the players archetype or tendencies? 🤔
@@biggiejerseysTVthat may explain it.
Lets talk about the UNGODLY amount of jet sweeps the computer calls
Why not call it how u see it, coach mode is straight up trash and is unplayable long term due to the complete lack of attention to detail
This is a great idea. I’m going to see if that works. This would be a GAME changer if it does. Thanks for the idea bro!
I’ve also heard you can’t create recruits in dynasty mode any more? They really out here charging $69.99 for LESS features😭
It’s because of NIL.
@@jmiyagi12345which is so stupid. These players are only there for 4yrs while the dynasty could go on 20+ and I can't change their names and stuff??? Trash.
It’s a fun game but that does suck
@@jmiyagi12345 It _literally_ isn't a legal issue though. And we know it isn't a legal issue to have created players, because you CAN create players, it's just restricted to RTG. We also know isn't a legal issue to edit player ratings, because you CAN edit player ratings, just not from within dynasty mode (even though there is a dedicated setting for it that doesn't work)
These things have never been "legal issues" for any other sports game in any other franchise EVER. I have no idea why people are inventing this nonsensical excuse to defend EA removing features from the game, something they have a long history of doing
You need to write in to the devs about this
Game one in coach mode, I grew concerned because I was anticipating the QB to eventually pull the ball back and run with it. Never happened. The gameplay on coach mode is a copy and paste version of Madden. Could this be the beginning of another title from EA to bank in on micro transactions and ignore previous year's features that kept our attention? I really hope EA does right with coach mode corrections.
It's not going to happen. No Coach Mode for you! Play Ultimate Team and burn you paycheck. 🤣
Netflix dating would go hard
That's annoying. On certain option plays as a QB in road to glory, I'll snap the ball and just be stuck in place, incapable of moving or pitching the ball to avoid being tackled for a big loss.
I feel like There's alot of stuff ppl are just glossing over with this game bacause F**** Madden😂
It's like the games swapped places.
another issue i have in cfb 25 is the lack of full access to the playbook during no huddle which they hyped up a lot during the pre launch time
I bet if they had kept the old option controls the QB would keep it every time.
Yup no way im buying the game now i only play cpu v cpu and the fact that you cant watch other teams games or have a semblance of realism when it comes to ai decisions makes it a no go
Brother. I had my shit on mute. I expected you to sound like paper boy from Atlanta, lmao , not what I expected at all
Yeah it’s unplayable
AI has been the weakness of all sportgames
ASAP best EA is going to do is next year if your lucky.
The option issue is because if you hold x it will put the ball and run, and if you don’t do anything it will always hand it off.
NCAA 06 had the best cpu instincts
For me, Coach mode is the main mode I'd use. So it's incredibly disappointing that this is what we got.
I hate it so much.
brodie got a fresh BIP looking clean
Idk if this would be better, I know coach mode sucks, but if you super sim on the slowest setting it DOES allow you to watch (not pick the plays) which I know isn't quite what you're looking to do.
I just now found this out as I hadn't owned any recent madden games, didn't know that super simming on slowest setting allowed you to spectate. Regardless, my QB did run while in this spectating mode. 100% understand this isn't the same as coach mode but it is an alternative option. Just thought I'd share as I thought you couldn't even spectate your own team's games this whole time....
I've been waiting for a coach mode patch before buying the game. 😭
Whelp, you might be waiting a while
It’s nice to have college back, but this is just another piece of EA slop
if you do more of the ASU series, can we please play without coach mode? The team is good and I wanna see where it goes.
My G got a cut and looking like Malice from the clips
my players numbers change CONSTANTLY in dynasty and it’s not like i can change them back it’s so frustrating
Definitely do the commentary on the dating show. I think that would be a dope branch out
Didn't know about Coach Mode in NCAA 14 until @NotTheExpert ran it in his last series. But you make excellent points Kofie.
Slip screen plays are basically useless in coach mode
I am enjoying the game but why doesn’t Road to Glory go beyond the first year? I would have thought it would at least give you 4 years even if the objective was to win a championship and the Heisman
ncaa 14 coach mode is pretty good unlike cfb 25. coach mode is definitely my preferred style of play.
Kofi with the clean cut fuckin me up what alternate universe am I in rn!?
I would love to see a video about a Netflix dating show that sounds amazing
I love coach mode cause of you but I for now just lean in to it and only recruit strong pocket passers and if possible always give my QB a hot route in case of pressure
I have also found screens are nearly impossible without you tapping the button they'll almost always hold on too long
I wish road to glory was more in depth. The story mode is just reading an iPhone from, it progresses the story without substance.
Vultures 2 is kinda buns. It has its moments like FRIED, FIELD TRIP, and DEAD. But the rest of the “album” is pretty bad.
It freezes your players and place takes horrible angles is a CPU is.😊
I’m sorry that did not get written correctly quarterback accuracy is seven yes seven
Oh yeah, Coach mode is not actual Coach mode the way it used to be. That’s because this game is basically a rescan of madden which also had this form of coach mode. It’s not NCAA coach mode.
Congrats on 40k Kofie 🎉
In my personal experience Ive never ran a read option successfully it always seems both options are covered
This is why I don’t do coach mode playing on hesiman level yourself is insane so I’m definitely not letting the cpu A.I doing shit
Hey bro, congrats on being featured in The Athletic!
It seems like it wouldn't be that hard to just impose the already existing opponent AI system onto the user's team after the snap and then just turn it off when a button is pressed. Or... Why do we need the ability to take over mid-play anyway? As is said, maybe that half-expectation is the wrench in the gears.
You mind if I use some of this?
I'd def watch your Netflix commentary video
Kofie you would LOVE football manager!
