Realistic tram neighborhood and highway interchanges | Cities Skylines 2

- Today we're fixing traffic (sort of...) by revamping a super busy intersection feeding traffic into several job centers, before growing the population with low-rent public housing and a historic row-house neighborhood that is slowly recovering from the effects of US interstate planning of the 1960's-1970's. Hope you enjoy!

SO Happy to have fixed our zoning bug and being able to really grow Riverview again! So, what are we calling this historic new neighbourhood in East Riverview? And are you guys ready for SOME CLEAN COAL, THE BEST COAL?
I love you all!
What mods caused the zoning bug? I have the same issue and i have no idea
@@ivanwilcox7350 it's the mixed row zone
@@BluedIsDaBest dammit are you sure i love that one
I think the river view metro needs a metropolitan mall somewhere in the suburbs in new Chelsea
Probably not good, but maybe name it Lincoln. this was an old neighborhood, but Lincoln was already known as a good person. The person had to be before probably even WW1, and Lincoln was pretty known by then. There is also a neighborhood which you can see cut up by a highway and the other side got redeveloped named Lincoln hill in Syracuse, and this is the same circumstances.
Clean coal? Ah, you mean uranium! Yes, nuclear power plant near a major river is a great idea that limits the need for costly cooling towers
Ah the clean only when it have a good maintenance coal yeah. (and really not clean at the mining sites)
@@Morkeoth even when a coal powerplant is maintained well, it's still belching out countless tons of CO2 into the atmosphere that used to be locked in the earth's crust. that shit ain't clean.
@@birbeyboop Don't get me wrong, I didn't say it was. ^^"
Awful means to get energy !
@@birbeyboopyeah really glad my country (UK) is now coal-free! our primary power sources are now wind, gas and nuclear
Clean coal!
Imagine your city having 1 Billion in the treasury and still claim they dont have money for a bridge
Hahahha - well as long as the economy is borked in this game, we've gotta challenge ourselves somehow!
Average politician
It needs to meet the safety standards. Make them high enough that nothing can go wrong as it can’t be done in the first place
I don’t know why, but these videos are so incredibly relaxing.
I watch his vids before I sleep. I think his voice also helps with the vibe. I mean this in a good way though.
For someone called Infrastructurist, you sure make some wonky intersections! Hahah
Glad you spotted the missing connection to the incineration plant. I hope the garbage trucks don't cause havoc at the T crossing in front of the bridge.
Hahaha - that is very very true. A perfect mess!
And you are absolutely right on your worries about the T crossing in front of the bridge, which is why I changed it before shooting the final cinematics!
U dont get it how calming it is to watch these. I get full dopamine dose every time I see you made a video
I'm happy you enjoy it :-) And always interesting to read such comments!
You should get the custom road pack mod, it’s SO useful. An example is the pedestrian alleys, which are awesome for a historic feel.
Once you will have extended the tram track to sterling you might as well move the tram depot there to make the area more dense ^^
I wish there was a secondary district too where you could set districts within districts so you could designate an entire city and see it's population and statistics while also having sub-districts within that city like you've been doing
In all seriousness, you're the only CS2 creator that I can watch for hours on end. Your cities also look MUCH more realistic than those from other people. I don't know if it's the funny comments, the music, or what it is, but your videos are definitely the CS2 gold standard.
As a GIS Professional who works with plans for housing and roadways, the simplest option would be to reduce the number of roads involved. Making the bridge continuous to the highway exit road, not jogged.
Forcing a circle, you need to make the circle huge due to the amt of traffic coming in and give space for merging, angles less severe.
But really a high capacity 4 way intersection w slip lanes for right turns and dedicated left turns would take less space.
One thing you could do I see a lot done is basically a roundabout (that is actually round) with four rounds and a throughpass (either tunnel or bridge) for the road to the bridge and the road towards the highway in this case so those dont have to joing the roundabout would make a lot of sense and still be smaller
@@mypdfproposals are required to be entirely at-grade
this makes so much sense! make it one intersection instead of two with all those roads connecting them
@@mypdfno tunnels or bridges allowed here he said.
I am always amazed how differently people plan roads in the US compared to here in the EU.. :D
Low key the nuclear power plant guys have me convinced. Exceptional vid as always. Lol the inclusion of that lake turned the new area from "yeah thats the hood" to someplace a bit more pleasant.
You need a system interchange connecting the two highways, then work to connect the collectors into the two highways
26:00 if riverview has no budget for eleveted roads or tunnels, just treat it like a big stretched roundabout
Call the row homes district "lakeside east riverview" or "lakeside" for short
Omg, just about half an hour ago I started watching an episode of Coniferia thinking "it would be nice if I had a new Infra video to watch instead :/". Thank you for hearing my pleas 😔
Just for you Adam 😁💯
I miss Coniferia
That's a catchment reservoir not a lake.😅
They're very common for flood prevention and drainage where I live.
We need a "for starters" counter
Hahaha, for starters drinking game 😁😁😁
I don't think everyone's livers would survive. 🤢 🤮 😵 😇
Pretty useful for my C1 english exam ngl (I'm spanish)
@@TheJorsy right? As a Dutchie who recently got their C2 certificate, little add-ons to sentences like these are so important. Lets you create sentences in a way not many non-native speakers would, and makes expanding your vocabulary much more fun as well
What a happy surpise to get another video just 2 days after the last one
I'm not saying you messed the tram line at 47:33, but it does look like the bus line loop thingy all over again. It sure looks the same, at least.
What you want for that interchange is a "Peanut" or Dumbbell style roundabout. Basically 2 roundabouts spliced together. You have the right idea but youre crearing too many conflict points and have too many tight corners. Peanut roundabout simplifies these
I'm flabbergasted at the "no tunnel because Riverview is a small city and has no money" it's just the solution to your problem except for a 4/5 lines mega roundabout which would be ridiculous to me haha nice episode as always! Thank you
At time you couldn't disallow left turn ftom the other lane, but YOU CAN USE THE TRAFFIC MOD THAT YOU ALREADY HAVE. Just click the cone icon in the upper left corner!
(I also suggest you to make the roundabout a turbo roundabout, that can easily be done with the traffic mod. Currently in you come to the roundabout from south, the left lane is only for u-turns unless you change your lane, I think that should be fixed. Though the best way to fix traffic is called public transportation😄)
great video❤❤
I have spend a lot of hours making weird traffic intersections in this game, i would say that a large 5 way custom normal roundabout would be your best bet, you now have a 4 way monstrosity bottlenecking itself on the smaller highway T-crossings right next to it, i recommend creating curves into the roundabout and straighter roads out to force traffic to slow down before enterring the round about from the diffrent highways. Drivers will slow down for the curve (atleast in real life… usually) and then notice the roundabout creating safer entry.
26:00 idk if this is good, but why not 2 large roundabouts? and just add slip lanes to them for the highway if needed
This is the best looking CS2 city, hands down! I always love when you do public housing areas, I don't know why, they just hit right. Gives me Confieria vibes 🌲💚
Riverview is the best series for CS2 by far! Great effort as always
Came back drunk yesterday from a EM24 match between netherlands and poland, and hoped that you uploadet a new episode of riverview... it was a perfect timing! thank you :D
An idea about the Mountain (please read it): You could build high in the mountain a small village that half of it will be really old and the other half European low density housing and a small but beautiful hotel will be facing tha city bellow and will have a very beautiful view👌🏻and i forgot to mention that in front of the hotel you can put a really small park that has the same view as the hotel. Thx you!! LOVE YOUR CHANEL!!!!❤❤❤❤
I love the idea! The suburbs seem to be underutilized and the city ends abruptly in most directions.
“My plan is the best plan ever, it’s better than Biden’s plan.” LOL that was funny.
@26:00 Just 2 interconnected roundabouts should handle that.
Builds roundabout, proceeds to ignore the benefits of a roundabout by creating complex crossings anyway. 😭
Crown Park for the new district. Public Housing complex given an optimistic name, but then paved over by a highway. Happens all the time, there's one in my town that was given a nice name, but then it became very dangerous. Now its undergoing gentrification.
The huge freeway cutting New Chelsea and the huge cloverleaf there are a huge eyesore, and they're always kinda empty! I would suggest transforming them into zoneable avenues instead and that cloverleaf could just be a big roundabout, would be smaller and leave room for more development in a central area. Love your city. Cheers
I agree! But then again it's an American themed city...
Call it Mallard! For the quaint little duck pond next to it
I really think you should develop the area to the east of New Chelsea. The transition from high rises to farm land within a couple hundred meters seems a little too drastic :)
Riverview has decent GDP per head/capita of approximately 9,566. People in Riverview are happy people 😁
To create perfect grids and avoid messing them when connecting to other segments I reccomend you to draw the road past the intersecting road and then remocing the segment you don't need.
I think this city needs some major sport area, maybe a race track or soccer arena?
for the love of god, traffic entering the roundabout is supposed to give way to others already in, not the other way round
Come for the city building, stay for the sick beats ❤
I think you should turn that intersection into a double roundabout
I would call the district "for starters". it rings a bell
Yes a new Riverview vid! Feeding my ever growing addiction. Keep up the good work bud!
fun fact, you can create districts inside districts with anarchy
Man that interchange triggers me. Your builds are very organic and natural, but the intersections are just a mess 😂
Great work as usual! Dexter Harding’s family definitely has an APB Silver Alert out for him 😅
I love the idea of adding more small ponds around the city and throughout the foothills. I know the water mechanics make it tricky, but it helps to add natural breaks within the city limits so it's not such monotonous urban sprawl.
The traffic circle section 😂
@19:50 i would make the center crossing a tunnel. It will bypass the highway and there’s plenty of room on the other side without having to make a lot of movement rules.
Edit: just remembered you said no tunnels. But … still
Fun fact:
By placing stop signs along a one way tram track you can turn it into a two way single track line. Great for making rural old tram lines with just a few passing loops.
I absolutely love how you play this game. You have completely changed how I approach things and have made it very enjoyable. Thank you.
BYPASS BYPASS BYPASS
JUST MAKE AN INTERCHANGE INSTEAD OF AN INTERSECTION
Because of these videos I started studying urban planning... maybe one day I'll be good at this game.
That's awesome Amanda!
Your city has increased massively the last time I saw it, and the missing plot in downtown river view should be a Silicon Valley office building in my opinion
The jumping zoning is the bane of my existence in CS2.
I always wait for your vids, you're the CS2 player that I prefer.
I think you have resolved the comlex intersection really well! Thumbs up! 👍👍👍
DID I JUST GET A COMPLIMENT ON ONE OF MY INTERSECTIONS?
WORLD FIRST
"each time this fails, you take a shot"
Gotta sayy man, loove zthis series...
Anyway, the tram section in the "new" old neighbourhood: what could work is to have the tram wander a bit in the area on single direction roads and then get a newly built tram extension towards sterling :)
A custom shopping mall would be a cool idea for your city, might help drop the commercial demand.
Either way another great video
That ended up being a really interesting neighborhood - reminds me a bit of Eastwick in Philadelphia, down to the trolley loop and planes overhead. Maybe Packer Park would be a more accurate comparison in terms of geography.
I'll take a tour around those parts on maps, thanks!
Always good to see you comment Blujitsu, OG :-)
It's stupid that THIS GAME ISN'T OUT ON CONSOLE AND ITS MAKING ME REALLY ANGRY IVE BEEN WAITING FOR IT TO COME OUT AND IM ABOUT TO SNAP ABOUT IT ITS UNFAIR
always love the oldschool timelapse building montages
don't neglect to make use of your traffic mod (the traffic cone at the top) to customize the lane connections-makes a world of difference in traffic management
Amazing job as always! So relaxing
A car view trip of whole city plz........btw watching you since 80k🎀
25:59 - have you tried a simple 4-way junction? with a traffic signal?? :)
I love this series, so relaxing and pleasant to watch. As for the naming suggestions, the new rowhouse district gives me British vibes so perhaps you could name it something alonf the lines of (New) Highbury/Anfield/Wavertree.
At time of the video 11.24, you can use a temporary roundabout technique, in all same kind of problems. Roundabouts have a lot bigger footprint, so you can draw roads from kinda further away, and they still connect, to the roundabout. Then just remove the roundabout and there you have, the intersection you were trying to get.
21:00 That Trump impression was hilarious. Thank you! 😂
I'm pleased to watch all your videos on cs2 you're the funniest and the best city planner on youtube
For the river you wanted to drain you could make like a very long park area as a buffer between downtown and the suburbs
Haha def think you over engineered that traffic. I think 2 T-Intersections with large roundabouts could work well, provided there's enough room between them
Great to see more Riverview
Why don't you just reroute the Riverview Expressway on/off ramps to interact with the new roundabout. Would alleviate pressure on to the Dean Highway without those current junctions that remain a bit snarled up
Did you forget you had the traffic mod for most the video?
If you click on the traffic cone up top left, you can create dedicated lanes when you select the intersection. Similar to CS1
Loving the videos! I wondered if you’d thought of adding a passenger ship line in this city? Would love to see how you’d implement that
Loving the series!
Didn't you assign police and other services to specific districts a long time ago?
As you have added so many new districts since then, the district settings for those services might need an update.
East Riverview neighborhoods should be called "North East Riverview" and "South East Riverview". I mean you want american names....
watching the first 27min was very painful
18:00
You do have the lane selection tool which will allow you to cut off left turns from the right lane
As an American, I laughed so hard when I heard “It’s better than Biden’s plan.”
Haha @infastructurist you will not listen to the fact there is a mod for enabling/disabling zoning on streets :D
As always an amazing episode. Your city really look life like! I wish I had the same skills in CS2. One day maybe! :D
1:08:52 wait............River lake 🙂
“The Abomination”. Top tier entertainment. 😂
At 25:00, you could have built a circle with 4 roads connected to it 😂
NUCLEAR POWER REVOLUTION 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
You should build a mountain road with a lot of sharp turns and a little "village" up on the mountain as a ski-resort or something.
Hey, I couldn't find your email to send my idea for the lane math configuration. Where do I find it?
When you mention reshaping the mountains again, would you ever consider a elevated mountain lake with a waterfall visible from the city?
I suggest the name of D25 for the row house district.
Id imagine the renaming happening during the construction of the I25, so the majors office wasnt as creative naming the new district, and said "Thats District 25". I see the non-creativity as a homage to the naming scheme of the city, and I like some "unusual" district names, that have numbers in it as well.
The public housing sort of reminds me of stuytown in new york
Why when I see your videos I need a cup of coffee or tea ؟
honestly your custom roundabout solution hurts to watch otherwise good content though
35:43 I really hate that when by grid gets broken that way.
Wow, a lake with calm waters!
Temperate countries: 🥰
Tropical countries: 💀
A gentrifying neighborhood next to a lake and freeway? Sounds like Silverlake in LA. Maybe Tin Lake? Or some other mining resource from historical Riverview.
Copper lake
nice layouts ,and cool how you fixed that traffic issue, i cannot do better ,about rent problem ,sometimes put commercial or parks fix that issue itself ,need a little time ,wen plobabble mod is enabled ,then you have to buildoze your zones if you change a zone ,ive notice this for myself, its not a bug :)
don't use the extended harbor mod, my demand go to zero for everything ,ive removed ,the problem was gone
