Building the ultimate coal power plant with custom dock and railyard in Cities Skylines 2
Вставка

- The Riverview Metropolitan Area is overly reliant on importing electricity from neighboring cities. This has only gotten worse as the city continues to grow, with the old Riverview Incineration Plant only able to supply 1/3rd of current consumption needs. Today, we're adding a new major power generation station to the city, transforming the metropolitan area from an electricity importer to an electricity exporter! And we only have to handle a bit of super dangerous excessive pollution, score! We detail up the coal power plant with a custom dockyard and railyard to allow easy coal shipments. Hope you enjoy!

Can I get pinned for no reason? edit: can we have a Riverview map? Please don't unpin me.
Nah
If you don't ask, you don't get. Well played!
bump, bro
thank you, Infrastructurist.
youtube moment
Looks like we need some residential areas in the northern part of the city to feed the large industrial job centers of the North.
yes
agreed
Absolutly
I think this guy has been bought by big coal
WHY WOULD YOU INSINUATE SOMETHING LIKE THAT
No, never! He even said in the video that he wasn't bought. The Porche was just a gift the coal companies give to everyone in power.
@@Infrastructurist Y'all see how he's trying to defend himself? Tss... he was bought
*clean coal, its clean
@@dr.vikyll7466*clean coal does not exist.* There is no such thing and there won’t be as coal is inherently dirty as a power source.
What people often refer to as “clean coal” is carbon capture built onto the coal plant which is like putting a band-aid on a gushing stab wound it’s not really fixing the overall issue just patching it (pretty ineffectively as carbon capture is kinda iffy atm)
Hi, I'm from France, I'm used to putting comments under your videos but today I'm overflowing with love so I want to share it with you. I've been following all videos for a while now, and it's really your content that makes me feel good after a long day. Your creativity, your patience with such a long game, your calm and your joy of life make your videos something really cool to watch. Anyway, I love what you do, keep it up 💪
I appreciate the kind words Arthur, I am happy my content has that effect on you - merci!

What is configuration of your PC?
2 Quick things I noticed. Your coal plant needs educated workers and coal. A university and coal mine at an ore depository may help. Great content as usual.
For the ship prop by the coal plant, you need to look the height of the prop to prevent it falling to the ground. Its a function of Move It mod.
It's a combo of Extra Detailing tool (transform) and Anarchy (elevation lock). For a prop just select it and the transform tool is already displayed and you literally have centimetre precision if you want it... but the sunken ship looks pretty interesting I think.
Editor Infrastructurist was hilarious in this video 😂❤
I tried :DDDD
You could name another historic row house district “Lonette” which was named after a Pierre Lonette, the first mayor of Riverview
I like the contrast by the the roundabout. On one side is a nice farm with a lot of plants and fertile fields and on the other side is the purest industry 😂 love the Video ❤
Let's add more traffic to the power plant! Add a shipping harbor(custom) and cargo rail yard (also custom). The custom passenger rail station(s) you made: AWESOME. Pls do it again!
Loving the extra long episode. You've won me over, Clean Coal(TM) is the future! (C) Most of the highway work this episode had me struggling, as did the perfectly colored coal cars. The guy who mentioned adding extra cranes is totally right, as is the guy who says this area will need some more residential or connections to feed the plant. All in all, love it as always.
Regular reminder that *Clean Coal does not and cannot exist.* What people refer to as “clean coal” is just carbon capture which is like putting a band-aid on a gushing stab wound in that it doesn’t actually solve the issue that coal is the most polluting and lethal form of power generation humanity has.
i think building some cabins up in the mountain like in gatlinburg, tennessee would be cool
Clean coal 🌷🌱🌼🌻🥀
fun fact solar is cheaper then coal
also wind
The future is nuclear! 🧪
@@Everie The future of our grand-parents yep.
It should be called "green coal". Is not that far from reality, if you read what some EU decisions have been made ^^
I don't know if you've already named the new Rowhouse area, but I think you should call it something like "Sterling Acres" or "Sterling Heights" because it could subtly suggest that neighboring Sterling and "Sterling Acres" were a part of the same larger community before the interstate divided them.
As someone who works in a rail yard, I am praying for the soul of the rail switch operator for this coal plant.
*Coal! Coal! Coal! Coal! Coal! Coal!*
You know what we miss with this much coal? A dying coal mining town in the hills!
what is that? oh right…
my fav cs:2 youtuber dropped a new banger
I really love how you follow the biker through the woods to see the view, you should be doing that more often than not. Thank you
Love from Nigeria ❤
Looks like the coal lobby has finally gotten a hold of the Riverview metropolitan council, I look forward to the CleanCoal (TM) Air-Flavouring (TM), pollution is such a harsh word, no?
"Nuclear energy is dirty. Use coal instead. It's cleaner"
- A totally not brought German politician, probably
I'm really curious how the new patch affects Riverview. Let's just say it got pretty chaotic in my fairly small city🙉 hopefully you can continue without major issues.
Hi Infrastructurist!
Great video, as always! I really enjoy following your videos :). Just a friendly suggestion regarding your railway tracks. It seems to me that you're placing them a bit too tightly and with rather sharp curves. In real life, this can lead to significant slowdowns for your trains and potentially cause rail traffic jams.
Try increasing the curve radius and spacing out your tracks a bit more. This will allow your trains to maintain a more constant speed and smooth out the traffic. Plus, it will give your railway network a more realistic look!
I asked ChatGPT to give me a list of the maximum curve radius based on train speed for a standard gauge railway, in 10 km/h increments. Here's what it provided:

Build Idea: build a small town or village which was the first developed area in corners of the map (i think it is in west side of the airport)
Village or Town Name:old riverview
context:it was the first development done by the previous mayor but was unsuccessful and the development moved to the river side
You have an immense amount of patience to get roads that perfectly. I usually just build one intersection then close the game for a month.
I'm absolutely loving the new industrial area! However, I have a few suggestions for improvement. It would be awesome if you could add the two other upgrades to the coal power plant to make it truly "clean." Also, I think it would be really great if you could install the advanced filtration system at the wastewater treatment plant to keep the citizens healthy. Considering its location, I believe it's really important for the well-being of Riverview's residents.
Clean Coal baby! The environment loves the clean coal! No, dont look up the mines! STOP ITS CLEAN! CLEAN!!!!
I think you should more custom lakes. They really add to the aesthetic to the city 🌆
@56:25 If you are traveling towards Banff, Alberta in Canada from Calgary, the very first thing you see as you enter the mountains is a giant industrial plant right in the mountainside. I empathize with Mr. Smith lol
Another classically smooth and seamless transition to remind us to smash the like button as always.
My drug of everyweek. I love it 🤣
But I got a request:
i'd like to see more dangerous places within your city. It seems like a very happy place (but that doesnt exist)... I wanna see more trash, more graffitis, more crime rate jajajaja
well, I comment first, and then realized that "Crown Park" is my place jaja.
Hey, maybe some addictions are healthy? :-D
Thanks for the recap! The last week was a busy one and I'm not joking when I tell you I tried to watch the last episode at least 5 times and always fell asleep somewhen. Never made it to the part with the lake 🤣🤣🤣
You should get the custom road packs mod, it has everything from small ped roads, to massive roads, to BRT.
Nice JPark reference. !
Dr. Ian Malcolm representing!
I think u could maybe put some type of crane that gets the coal from the ships to the actual power plant, as it would look more realistic. Anyway amazing video!!
You can name a suburb vale, especially around some mountains after one of the big companies of coal since u love big coal and vale is a irl mountain town
I really enjoy your videos. They are the perfect mix of simulation and detailing gameplay. Also - which is the main reason I watch your videos - one can feel your expressions/emotions during your builds, i.e. the joy when something works out exactly as envisioned or the opposite i.e. when a game mechanic understandably frustrates you :D
Keep up the work! Greetings from Germany :)
Always get happy, when i see that you uploaded. You should do a first person train ride or something like that!
For the ships as props, I usually do some terra-forming underneath the ships. Works perfect.
One detail you could add is a grid under the train tracks next to the coal pile, since you currently don't have an "unloading asset". Some coal trains drop the coal straight down onto the floor for easy unloading. I believe it's called a hopper.
In my Town there used to be a nuclear power plant but my town has under 50.000 population. (It was deactevated because the German Goverment decided to stop using nuclear energie.)
Riverview has 100.000 people living in it but I don't know much about american citys.
Well the train station should not be only decoration ... actually bring the coal there
Yes, a water treatment facility beside a coal power planet. Very fitting, surely won't cause any problem!
Love the small memes in the video.
that was awesome man, i enjoyed the ride ;P
Could you do me a favor and rebuild the railway structure of the powerplant? Especially those curves for the rails near the river are so damn tight, even model railways have wider curves. This really looks ugly. It really triggers me as a railway-nerd :D
Oh and there is one house between Crown Park and Highland Peak wich belongs to no district ;)
Some idea to improve the look: The road, you marked with the center line should get the darker asphalt like it is on the roads around the cooling tower and also the yellow outlines. This way it would look more like one structure. Currently I think it looks kind of weird, that there are two different road-asphalt textures
reminds me of the villain in _The_ _Lorax_
With a "clean coal" power plant just being added (what year is it?!), I'm just wondering, is @Infra trying to mimic all the mistakes that Poland makes while trying to become a reasonably developed country?
man u are my favourite youtuber... your videos are awesome
I think your ships are sinking because you dont have elevation lock enabled. Love the vid btw :D
Please do a first person tour of riverview with a random npc in the future
Is the chowder bay series done or is it just on a hiatus right now. Either way both regions look fantastic and you are probably the most talented CS2 creators on here.
enjoyed the video, quick thought, if its supposed to be "clean coal" it'd make sense to go for the building upgrades like that filter.
The city definitely has an education problem
If you look at how fast the "undereducated" positions were filled at the coal plant compared at the more educated ones, you can clearly see that the city lacks educated people.
I think it's a major issue that requires massive fixes since the city is growing, I think there should be as many elementary schools and high schools (and some more colleges and universities as demand grows in the future) as what demand shows. It's probably one of the main reasons why there are so many open positions in North Port and in other places in the city. Just a little bit more education please
I’m new to Skylines and your channel is 🔥 thank you for the great content.
🔑 for engagement
Dude I swear I love your videos
I'd love to see some high schools. I'm guessing with the population boom/correction, the high school deficit is even greater! You are creating a lot of jobs that require more than an elementary school education. I'd also love to see some more playgrounds in residential areas but that's just personal preference :)
I love the series so much! For a future project, would you consider starting a Danish, Dutch, or German style city? I just recently returned from the Netherlands back to Canada and would love to see that kind of city style!
Glad to hear that Brandi! I am currently working on the (hopefully) final details for a new series with a predominantly European theme, but with a unique narrative and story which should allow me to draw inspiration from several European architectural- and city planning styles :-)
@Infrastructurist That's amazing! I can't wait! Mind you, River View is very beautiful! But as a North American/Canadian, its very reminiscent of home lol
You know what this city really needs? To fill that canal that goes behind the downtown and turn it into a massive interstate.
Why fill in the canal? Just demolish some historic neighborhoods!
@@franki1651 Because Infrastructurist doesn't like demolishing mid or high density neighborhoods, only single family ones. Plus he said he wasn't sure what to do with the canal a couple of episodes ago.
Add some dozers and fork lifts to the power station.
Dozers would move the coal piles around forklifts for the containers.
Infrastructurist needs to buy a Tesla just to compensate for this episode
Looks awesome and ecological!
Recently I've been enjoying the concept of a video you could do for April Fool's where you play like normal but you do the whole video in Danish and just don't explain it at any point in the video. Might need to do actual captions though so people still have a reason to watch😅. But I think you should consider this, could be fun.
Great video!
Great vid as always ❤
Since I have managed to get a working custom cargo through station working I'm now tempted to see if we can get an actual working extension to the Coal Power Plant that has a rail storage/delivery element and is actually functional.
Could you put the road from the outside connection on the same hight as the main railline?
You uploaded again!!!! 🎉
Pleaaaase make that harsh right angle corner next to the water a diagonal so it follows the bend of the river.. :D
How do you get the custom assets? I don’t see the mods in the list in description
Awesome project!!!
I know what you mean about the water...whole districts have already been flooded xD
You have to do a little more terraforming on the quay. Then the ship will stay straight
I don't think upkeep cost will be extremely high, given that a power plant should pau for itself in form of energy. Tho idk how economy in Cities works exactly.
Sad to see such a dirty way of producing energy, but it at least looks cool
So I looked it briefly up and yeah, it should pay for itself and even generate profit with current city demand.
It looks cool! :D
But it would surprise me if the nuclear plant would generate a profit due to exports, as that would in effect then be an infinite money cheat, no? I also really hope that with the new big economy patch on Monday, we will be punished for reckless spending - it's going to be very interesting to see how it affects Riverview!
@@Infrastructurist Well, my research was brief xD
BTW, a crane or two, like those in the port, will work wonders for detailing of clean power plant.
Also, doesn't water treatment plant require clean ground, as it return treated water back into the system? Won't you just poison your people by accident?
At 50:46 if you click the lock elevation button at the bottom, it might fix the issue.
I did it. I am the 1000th person to like this video.
P.S.: UA-cam didn't notify me of your upload...
I still suggesting few wind farms in the mountains range as a cleaner alternative :) Or at least Geothermal power plant.
I believe you can use the Advanced Road Services mod's quay wall tool on paths. I know you can do it to rails in addition to roads, so maybe it would work on paths too? Might make things easier :)
can you do a pov city tour? it looks beautiful 🤩🤩
Really enjoyed watching a lot of your videos the past 6 months. But watching you play this game at 20FPS makes me die slowly inside
Bro cheaped out and got bought by big coal. ;(
It's amazing!! What about a coal mine now??
Just a small thing that boggers me are the tracks by the water that just hit a 90 degree turn all of a sudden. My idea would be to maybe just make the tracks go diagonally across and strech them out to where the tracks branch off from the main line. It's pretty unlikely (and maybe pretty derailing) for trains to do such a sharp turn.
Loved this build. Very well done, but it is missing a fence, powerstations can be a target for terrorism etc so should be more secure especially along the highway going past. Also maybe in future some sort of low ecenomic housing estate for workers, some workers may be intercity/state or fly in fly outs and need somewhere to stay while on their shifts.
you should connect these three cities into one and creating a huge metropolia
im loving your content
you need employee housing around the industrial area, mostly around the coal plant and the less polluted area around the port. it will make it more perfect and it will replicate the mighty Ohio River, kinda.
🔥👍Дякую за роботу та відео
I feel like Riverview needs some two lane highways going through the lower mountains around the city. Some empty country roads mainly going around the city
In response to your rail grades: Like you said earlier in your vid, city skylines is slightly smaller than scale. So then apply that to the numbers, maybe a 3% grade across a slightly smaller land area is ok cause simulated
Hey, I've been really enjoying your videos, but the length has gotten a bit long for my taste/availability. Some parts such as the districting could probably be done off-camera with a quick mention. I know it sucks to cut out a lot of time spent on fixing stuff, but it might make the video more engaging on the whole. I'd personally aim for 30-45 min for long form like this but ofcourse that's a creative decision up to you.
Thanks very much for the content you provide. ^^
It's so wonderful
Smith River is a great name
Would be very nice if you could build a very special villa in the hills, I could imagine that the family that owned the farm received a lot of money for selling all their land and now they retired.
I recently made the mistake of placing an industrial waste management building. My city services all immediately started having issues with backed up sewage due to my waste water treatment plant no longer emptying its waste.
I live in Niagara Falls, New York, where it is generating clean ol hydro power-but us nearby citizens aren't allowed to use any of it-because it would be too cheap to meter, I guess-so all our power comes from coal plants from further away places. go figure!
Which mods did you delete to get demand back?
coming from a fellow Dane
what map do you use, it looks super good
There are no locomotive props for the coalwagons ?
you should add grafitti to the train cars
You have to remember that the empty railcars are going to be hauled up the grade not loaded ones
