19:30 I definitely care about those little details, and I actually think MOST of us do! It’s the ability to do what you’re doing and make those tiny adjustments that really makes the city come to life
At Vermont St and Olive St, you can make a “super node” by temporarily building a roundabout over the highway, connecting all your road segments into the roundabout, and then carefully deleting ONLY the roundabout. You then end up with a completely joined up multi-road super node.
@@twodollarstwenty Also maybe try adding a median instead of a railing to the sides of the roads. it would atleast look like there is something instead of the road edge.
i think there's an easier way to do this with moveit, you should be able to extend the end nodes of one crossing to where the other one should be and connect the rest of the roads up
19:30 Yes I absolutely care about that sort of thing! Its what makes you unique, its also a big reason why I watch your videos is for the inspiration and creativity.
You should get the mod 'All Aboard!' I had a similar problem to what you seem to be experiencing. That mod was a game changer. Buses, trains, trams, etc., now leave at regular intervals and do not stand around waiting for a bug-stuck Cim to get onboard.
Oh my god, even the first minute of the video blew me away! As soon as custom assets will be available for this game, my social life will disappear cause I'll care only about this game :D :D
I love how even the above ground roads feel like they’re integrated into the suburban landscape rather than just an expressway surrounded by unused land
Infrastructure building is pretty much the thing I care about most in CS so yeah, this episode and figuring this stuff out's been super entertaining. Also, there's a clipping surface that might help in ExtraDetailingTools.
@twodollarstwenty 22:00 There is a method to create a supernode. It would stretch the intersection. You would have to redraw the surface level and put a temporary roundabout up top. Forget all of the steps but it's the best solution I think.
YES I REALLY DO CARE ABOUT THIS UNDERGROUND ROAD PROJECT! Something like this is very rare and with the new epic mod this is so entertaining to watch so yeah its worth the effort!
Truth but I also see a universe where possibly get this mod into base game if they were wise. With all that said, if they actively hate this mod, it might be safe to say that the game will die outright given the fact CS2 needs this mod
they're still gonna be able to sell new road upgrades as dlc tho, and this mod wouldn't work as a workaround around that. for example bike lanes, when they add bikes to the game. although i really hope bikes are a free update and not a DLC
“Good point! This mod is outstanding. Nice to see two dollars struggling sometimes 😵💫. I have very much respect for the CS creators; they are so inspiring!”
@@mrgangsterb0y Bikes could be added as part of a Mass Transport or Green Cities expansion. I hope it's free too, but looking back at the old game, it will probably be a DLC feature.
This mod is a gamechanger-making realistic roads is going to be a piece of cake now! For example…painted medians? Easy, just put a shoulder in the middle and paint markings with netlanes! Want a massive stroad? Make a highway but bi-directional and create turning lane segment presets to easily make good intersections! Want a one lane each direction median seperated road? Easy. Not to mention throwing in and integrating your transit networks and other infrastructure so seamlessly. Where to put that subway track I wonder… ah yes of course! Side of the road should do.
22:05 you need to connect the nodes. It looks and works way better. Remove half, place a roundabout, drag thru the roads (using anarchy). This creates one super node. Then, delete the round-about. This converts it back to a super-node traffic-light intersection.
Very neat! For those fences at the end you can go back to using the fence/wall "pieces" as they are just props and so can be placed wherever. That clipping from the horizontal pillars is a particularly cool side-effect, and very well utilised. The mod is Top Bonkers!
For your traffic situation, I like the mod Cim Route Highlighter. It is not exactly like the tool from CS2 but it can help sometimes. It also is shows you the buildings that cims came from and going to, and if you click on a building it will show you every path coming to or leaving and again the building at the other end of the path. It shows where your university students are coming from, for example.
When adding (bus) lanes to a road you need to check the intersections at both ends. Some of the lanes don’t allow turning left or right. It’s why cars still use the bus lane.
22:00 i would put slim buildings (only props because it obviously won't zone there) on the part above the highway where it widens and we can still see the grass. A dense city would use every bit of space so it could make sense
Send the savegame top Biffa to fix your traffic :P would be a good episode. Also the entire underground highwaything started nice and simple and then .......
I would find an eventual "let the pros deal with the mess" colab with biffa VERY fun, but biffa might not want to due to the possibility of screwing up twenty's detailing and such, maybe something of a "How I'd fix it" video from biffa then twenty applies the fixes himself? would make for a two video back and fourth colab rather than a single video, which is better for youtube engagement stuff
21:38 You can try to draw the nodes from one single joining point to create the intersection and THEN redraw the roads to be off to the side as you have them right now. I’ve used this consistently and it should work!
The intersection at 8:04 looks like it has stop signs which make the buses have to wait for every single pedestrian that wants to cross. I think a traffic light would be both more realistic and function better, where I live there are almost always traffic lights near bus stops.
Mod we're still missing: the Slope Tool! Even out all those bumpy roads. And it'd be great if sunken & elevated lanes became part of the Road Builder Mod.
the highway detailing is soooo good! you make it look easy and honestly its close to CS1 detailing in terms of just throwing down tunnels and elevated sections wherever you want. I'm predicting Tokyo style road builds with mods by next year at this rate
Ah man, everything looks great mate! And for the record: I really, really, enjoy your attention to detail so concerning your question about the clipping; please pay such attention as you did!😊
You can make complex junctions work by changing it to a big roundabout and then delete the roundabout. It creates a sort of ‘supernode’, connecting all the roads together.
I am not sure if you are aware of this, but in the tree controller mod, you can set it to always have Spring Colors. Don’t know if you mind the autumn colors, but just wanted to tell it to you anyway. Great vid as always!
@@tomasb704 it also has a setting to use the dead tree visual in winter for deciduous trees so that they will go orange for fall and drop the leaves in winter then green in spring. I'm constantly amazed by the mod creators and the things this game is capable of!
To connect the nodes that are close together, remove one (likely the one that was to the right when you were talking about it) and place a large roundabout on the other. The roundabout having a larger footprint will allow you to reconnect the other roads while keeping them straight. You can remove the roundabout after to have a larger standard node that can be governed by a single traffic light.
Great road work. When it comes to protecting the above highway roads, you should be able to put a fence there with the line tool. There's a residential fence which is concrete and bars which I think would look great there. Also, I have an idea for your struggle that you have got going. Double also, if you put a roundabout on the Vermont Street intersection - connect all the nodes - and then delete the roundabout you will have fixed that issue.
Perhaps a ‘road with a sidewalk section’ might solve the issue of fencing over the exposed tunnel sections. The fence/barrier might attach to the sidewalk? Great vid.
I've been waiting to do roads like this since SimCity 2013 promised something similar early in its development. This really is the way. I'm excited to see mods this powerful coming out in (imo) the early days of the game. I stepped away for a while to focus on other projects while the game settles down, but it's hard not to get excited about this. Thank you for showing what it's capable, and always happy to see what you do with your cities!
love what you did with the highway, the intersection down thats barely visible. The small things make the great cities I just think the roads up top should some sort of barriers
- for the railings, maybe adding a very narrow sidewalk (0.5m) in roadbuilder would make it work? - for the greenery, i think the bushes work, but trees on an overpass like that seems a bit much, imagine dealing with the roots!
I'd really love to see a video segment dedicated to redesigning the bus station by the main train station. A big issue there is the island bus stops requiring loads of pedestrian crossings causing buses to get stuck getting through. You could design a U shaped terminal instead with an outer lane for bus stops and an inner lane for overtaking.
For the Vermont Street intersection. Try turning it into a roundabout. Then connecting all the roads to that roundabout. Then delete the roundabout. The intersection should remain as a single node and all the roads will operate on their traffic lights together.

Procedural road creation is something I wanted to see in the base-game for Cities Skylines 2.
