    As of publishing this, I want to make it clear that this method works for me and so far I like my results. I don’t care if it doesn’t follow [ insert UA-camr/Photographer name here ] or follow the rules of the manual, these results will either make you happy or not. At the end of the day, these are your photos. You can do whatever you want with them.

    Beautiful results! Thank you for this video. I've been scanning through a camera + LOMO digitaliza, but that process can be exhausting - and film bending can still be a problem, so parts of an image can be out of focus. Pulling the trigger on an Epson and the ANR glass option seems to be the best investment of money into scanning.

    • @russellrabanal
      @russellrabanal  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you so much I appreciate it! I was actually thinking about buying the digializa and scanning it with the Epson. Keep in mind though, when you scan ANR straight on the glass, you are likely to get newton rings. Rings that might be noticeable. If you are just uploading photos on a platform like Instagram, it goes unnoticed. Thanks again!

    I'm swinging by to pick up glass from Scan Tech - glad to have found this! Good to see it's eliminating newton rings. I see people using other brands and somehow still getting rings- perhaps they are using it incorrectly.

      Let me give you a quick update. I still scan my photos on the glass and I'd get newton rings on my photos here and there. So using ANR doesn't prevent Newton rings 100%. Maybe lifting the glass a few mm off the flatbed glass would work but not always when it's flat on the glass.

      I’ve never tried wet mounting so I can’t speak on that. I’ve always been sandwiching my negative on the glass and get results that I’m happy with. You can always try experimenting. ☺️

    Hi Russell. I'm archiving the slides and negatives (sizes from Kodak 110 [the one w the the very small negative] up to 120) that my Dad & Mom took of our family as we grew up for myself & my three brothers by scanning them on an Epson V850 Pro. After seeing this video on ANR Glass I plan to get some of the ANR glass plates. I have a couple of questions. First, can you have several ANR glass plates on the scanner bed at the same time? Second, does it work on slides? Thirdly, does scanning prints (both color & B&W) with ANR glass on top improve results? I ask this because a number of old b&w prints I have from my Dad are ones he took doing WW2, and these are basically contact sheet prints. Thanks a lot --you are doing a great job!

    • @russellrabanal
      @russellrabanal  3 роки тому

      Hi Joe, with the Epson V600, I can only place one ANR glass over one 120 negative or one 35mm negative over the glass. The one I bought works specifically on 120 negatives with or without the tray. After using it for 3 months, yes, it does improve results if you zoom into scans and look into details. Using ANR from my experience, it improved in sharpness on details and contrast. --- You did mention about scanning prints, ANR glass was designed for negatives. And for slide film, I can't speak for that since I've never shot any but I believe it would work the same. I've never shot 110 as well, but they will fit under the ANR glass since it's smaller than 35mm film. Lastly, my method of scanning is not something that Epson put in their instruction manuals, but using ANR glass does bring improvements. Again, these improvements can be seen if you zoom in otherwise you can't really tell. Hope this works for you and let me know if you have any other questions.

      @russellrabanal  3 роки тому +1

      What are you scanning 35mm or 120 film? Using the ANR glass did bring improvements. The 3 scanning videos I’ve shared on my UA-cam is my process. I’m not doing anything in post unless I say so in my video. I’m shooting 6x9 on medium format and the shots from that camera are usually sharp.

    • @russellrabanal
      @russellrabanal  3 роки тому +1

      I was going to forward you to my video that I created awhile back, but you found it. There’s really no trick to it. In that video, I show my settings and basically click and drag the marquee tool over the image. Whether you’re using silverfast or Epson Scan, it does the same thing. - Most people will say the same but that’s basically it. Click and drag. The only time you can’t get the film borders is if you use the tray that comes with the V600. The tray blocks the borders from even showing up in your scans. May I ask, what you’re getting when you click and drag? At this point, I’m thinking some settings might have been changed. You’re going out of bounds with the borders. Or there is something wrong with your V600.

      You’re getting newton rings because you’re putting the film directly on the scanner glass. That’s why the holders that came with your scanner raise the film a few mm off the glass.
