    Quality, Honest review.
    Quick story:
First time I dragged my bassboat to Florida I stopped at Fishin Franks in Port Charlotte, FL. Looks like they are now closed but verify if interested.
Owner was very nice, had good suggestions and assured me that my “bass gear” was fine for saltwater as long as I took good care of it and throughly rinse everything after every outing.
I was concerned that my gear would not hold up for “saltwater fishing”. Great relief!
He came out to the bassboat, shared a few more tips, disappeared into the store again and came out with a free gift: a can of corrosion resistant spray (I think it was Boeshield T-9 Rust & Corrosion Protection).
Yes, he OWNED my business from that moment.
Still use T-9 every time I bring my boat to Florida.
I am very particular as to what reels I will use in saltwater and send every reel used in saltwater back to Shimano after my Spring Florida trips for inspection and cleaning. Inexpensive service and their cleaning fee covers any parts that need replacement. Then I’m ready for the year’s Midwest fishing one the “hard water” is gone.
Mostly wanted to share a Great Retailer experience that parallels your video that freshwater rods will work fine in saltwater with some simple maintenance.
    Be well and Thank You.

I'm still fishing freshwater rods that I started using in the salt 25 years ago. I always wash them. Remove the reels from them to get the reel seats clean & dry. Reels do require more service/attention than the rods. My rule of thumb is, if it went to the beach, boat or pier, it gets washed. That goes for all of my gear.

I’ve been using some rods made by a local rod builder. He only used Microwave Guides. I’ve gotten a few from him and he is no longer in business but made some awesome rods with these guides. After using these rods for a few years I have gotten better distance and accuracy with plastics and topwater. I would like to hear what your thoughts are on the Microwave Guides. For me, I noticed a big difference in smoothness and distance right away. Any comments would be appreciated.

I live in upstate ny. I stumbled on your video about spinning reels and was hooked. Good channel Fellas. I'm a freshwater kinda guy but your channel is really informative on Both Salt & Fresh water. The Title "Salt Strong" threw me off.

My experience: salt rods tend to be longer, with slower (softer) tip action (for tossing delicate live bait) and the guides are bigger to allow heavy leader knots to go thru cleanly. Freshwater stuff works fine if the guides are big enough. Either way you gotta clean both types since salt eats thru everything over time.

I caught a nice size snook on a fresh water rod and I always wash my fishing rods after coming home from fishing even if they're saltwater rods.

Thank you for confirming what I remembered when I was a teen. It's all about washing off your freshwater rod, even if it's a saltwater rod.

Sometimes the power and action does change going from salt to freshwater water rods. For example the 7’ M St. Croix mojo inshore has the same specs as the 7’1 MH mojo bass.

I would definitely use any of these rods and reels for shallow water flounder fishing inshore 🐟

Unless I missed it?I didn’t see anything about the fishing reels themselves, which I assume are pretty much the same concept some might have more salt resistant components but I was just curious if the same holds true on the reels. Thanks

Is there even a difference between the st croix triumph inshore and freshwater well other than 30 dollars and green instead of blue? Looking at their site it looks like the same exact components.

St-croix tournament inshore and avid have aluminum oxide rings. Really strange why St-croix decided to use low end rings instead of SiC, Zirconia or Torzite. Any ideas?

    Questions: from a beginner …
    1) is it safe to power wash rods after use ?
    2) what is the difference between 1 piece and 2 piece rods - I want to but 2 piece rods (for storage and carry purposes) do they make 2 piece saltwater rods ?
    3) can i just put the higher pound line mentioned on rod and be ok ?
Any help would be great …

If you have a soft tip for cleaning cars, windows etc that should be fine, anything with more pressure than that I would advise against.
2.) Yes they make 2 piece saltwater rods most people use one piece rods for inshore though. Almost all surf fishing rods are multiple piece rods.
3.) If you are inshore fishing you shouldn't need more than 15-20lb test line. If you need stronger line than that you should get more of an offshore based rod. You shouldn't need more than 3-5 pounds of drag, anymore than that with higher lb test line will snap your rod on a big fish anyway.
