Once you had your way with the piece of Beech firewood, the finished product created more aesthetic warmth than it would have created physically when burning in a fire. And, of course, it’s still warming hearts whilst the firewood would have turned to ash. Bravo Andy!

The jade epoxy really works with the beach grain. love the fret saw/burrs work and the finish with the torch was just inspiring. Really knocked this one outta the park. If I had a hat, I'd take it off to you.
Hi Andy, always amazed at your ability to see shapes and possibilities from the most unusual lumps of wood, the tree-root from the reservoir in particular. When you finished hollowing I thought "thats nice", shame about the bit of live edge that got tore off, then you mount the piece vertically on that contraption on the lathe (what was it - never seen that before) and then you tidy up the edges and apply a flame to even up the colour and effect. Brilliant idea and produced a stunning piece. You've certainly taught me to look a lot more closely at my scrap wood pile to look for possibilities and to just see what you end up with. Great video.
You make it look so easy, but it must be some amazing craftsmanship to get an even thickness and smooth curve in spite of having to work with such jagged edges.
It’s really cool how early on the rotation was synced with the camera frame rate but even just the slightest cut depressed the rpm juuust enough that the piece started spinning to the camera

Also interesting to see how when he starts scraping, it 'appears' to start rotating backwards, showing that the scraper is actually affecting the RPM :)

When the rotation speed of the wood and the frame rate of the camera match and it appears to be not rotating, that looks pretty cool.
Shanghaimartin I was thinking the same thing! Then started thinking about calculating lathe rpms, frame rate and speed increase to accomplish that.

Very true! I have had a GoPro on a fat bike with the tire in view and it looked like it spun backwards the whole time.
And magic happening around 2:31 when the scraper seems to touch nothing, yet the form changes... whoooaaaa! 😯😲
