      So, making a passable realistic pine/fir/xmas tree is tricky. Blender Guru (the doughnut tutorials guy) did a great tutorial on that many, many years ago on a completely different version of Blender than what we have now. Most of it is still translatable, though.
      A trick that noobs like me can do is to go into Edit> Preferences and activate the "Images as Planes" addon. From there, I can build a 2d douglas fir branch, downloaded from Google, save it as a PNG, then import that as a plane shape. (Add > Image > Image as Planes, find where you saved your png of a branch.)
      It sounds confusing, but you'll probably see where all this is going the second you see your branch image pop up. Subdivide the 2d plane image you imported, bend it all up, extrude it a little, and you have a decent pine branch. If you don't get too close to it, it looks ok.
      Then you just stick them into some tree trunk, resize and reshape, repeat and rinse.
      Takes like, 8 minutes unless you want to do it slower.

      @@ericprice5471 Yeah, I find realistic trees very hard to make, but that sounds like a good method.

      @@RyanKingArt for quick trees in the background of a scene, it kind of works. To do it the "right" way, it's all about learning the "Sapling Generator" Add-on. Which I'm not very good at yet. I keep forgetting where the thing even is. Under curves or something.

      Well, Its not exactly in real time, but I have a powerful GPU, and I also use the viewport Denoising, so it renders the viewport quickly.

    Why can't I do the cntrl + E to get the hook very well? Mine gets incredibly thin and distorted and does not make the loop like the tutorial.

    • @RyanKingArt

      can you let me know what part in the tutorial your at? and I will try to help.

    • @boo.hates.spiders
      @boo.hates.spiders 3 роки тому

      @@RyanKingArt Yes, at about 10:00. You start by making the base of the hook, and then you say to press cntrl + E to get it to extend with the cursor in a snapping motion. I can do that... except mine doesn't curve around neatly. It just gets thinner and thinner the further down the z axis I go with my mouse.

      Hello, it would be faster to model and hand paint it afterwards, or use edge lines and then color it, if you go sculpting route you will need to retopo the mesh for UV unwrapping and then painting, doing it in 1M and more tris would be pain
