I've always found the Troglodyte Degeneration Contagion to be fascinating. It's one of the rare times we get to see a disease in the Fallout universe (yes I know the FEV was created as the Pan-Immunity program, and was originally supposed to combat the New Plague, but that's in the lore, not something we see ourselves).

I loved this DLC when it came out. I live near Pittsburgh and seeing the familiar sites and sounds of the city of Yinsers through the lens of nuclear apocalypse was fantastic.
Fun fact the River in fallout 76 is connected down stream from the Pitt. Give it a decade or two for all the chemicals and everything to burn through anything maintenance was there to stop.

If you enjoyed the originals and/or NV, or even the main game, don't play it and save yourself the bad time. When i started it, i was almost max level and with overpowered gear. (Spoilers ahead, i'm not an asshole so i'll warn you. But it's literally the beginning, and it's nothing you need to go blind to at all). 4 low level semi naked dudes with fucking pipes beat you up uncounscious in an unavoidable mandatory cutscene where you can't even draw you weapons for no reason. After that, you get enslaved; there i outright killed an armed guard with my bare fists (THAT powerful i was at that point), took his weapon and killed everyone else in sight. Doing all that, basic stuff for what a Fallout game should be, you basically break the DLC. The only way is the kinda nonsensical and unnecessarily convoluted Bethesda way. This was outrageous for me, because the main game itself wasn't really like that, or at least not nearly as bad. Fallout 4 is really the only game that gets close to such lack of player agency in the franchise.

Marie’s resistance to the TDC is most likely to do with Ashur. I don’t remember if it’s actually confirmed but I’m pretty sure The Pitt has become an isolationist state resulting in the same faulty genes being passed on to all children, it actually wouldn’t surprise me if Vault Tec had something to do with mutating the genes of the survivors of the Great War which then lead to TDC being communicable. It’s quite likely that the introduction of new genes gave the resistance to the mutation that was absent in all others who were living/ surviving in The Pitt
Definitely not isolationist, they were a major power player in the slave trade even in vanilla fo3, and have been at least since Herbert Dashwood was out adventuring

[Spoiler] There is a hilariously evil mod for The Pitt which, if you have the cannibal trait, allows you to _eat_ the baby rather than give her to either side. You get the same benefit as the shot you'd normally get from one side or the other, but totally eliminates that single hope for the city's residents (and makes _both_ sides permanently hostile to you).

Trogs were actually part of the cancelled Fallout 3 (Van Buren) by Interplay. There are mentions of them living in Hoover Dam, I think.
