Goodday bro! Sorry late reply. Adding battery in parallel will extend the range that your scooter can reach. Meaning it will give you more mileage. You will get the full potential of you scooter. Torque and speed may improve depending on the controller and motor of your scooter. I highly recommend adding battery(parallel) for better performance. If you want more speed then you have to upgrade three major components. Higher voltage battery Controller Hub motor All should be in the same rating (eg. 60v) I hope this made it clear. Extending battery is about adding capacity(Ah) The higher capacity, the longer it will run. Ride safe!

I see that you have BMS in each battery and connected the packs in parallel. Didn't you have problem charging the battery packs?...because two bms's will have conflict with each other. I had this problem and it would not charge.
Goodday! It's been more than a year since i did this to my electric scooter. I never had any issues or problem after the modification. The two batteries are charging/discharging at the same time. Charging time takes longer than before, because of the doubled(combined) capacity of the battery. So far everything is working properly. Ride safe always!🤟
Goodday! Ah doesn't really matter. But voltage is very important to be taken care of. It should be same voltage, same chemistry(lithium to lithium or lead acid to lead acid. NEVER MIX!) Goodday! The 52v will make the motor run, but it's going to be over voltage and may eventually damage the motor. I recommend to use same voltage rating(48v motor/controler/battery) There are two options when connecting two batteries. Parallel connection for increasing the Ah. Series connection for doubling the voltage. 36v 20ah + 36v 20ah = 36v 40ah (parallel) 36v 20ah + 36v 20ah = 72v 20ah (series) Parallel ( link the two batteries by connecting the 2negatives and the 2poditives) Negative to negative. Positive to positive. Series (link the two batteries by connecting the positive of the battery to the negative of the another battery) Positive to negative. Ride ssfe!🤟

If they are not in the same voltage there could be a big current flow from the higher voltage battery to the lower voltage battery because in a parallel connection both batteries try to even eachother out. This big current flow could damage the battery and even cause a fire depending on how much current goes from one to the other. The lower voltage battery has less resistance than the higher voltage one. If you don't have alot of knowledge about batteries I would better not mess with it because these batteries can burn your house easily down.

Hey man very nice build. One thing u might want to add some inline diodes to the positive of each battery. So then one battery cannot discharge the other battery
ChatGPT doesn't recommend it: If you want to connect two battery packs in parallel for a scooter, and the packs have the same voltage but different capacities (ampere-hour ratings), using a diode in this situation is generally not recommended. Instead, you should connect them directly without a diode. Here's why: Battery Capacity: When you connect batteries in parallel, the total capacity (ampere-hours) of the combined battery packs will be the sum of the capacities of the individual packs. This means that the scooter will be able to draw power from both packs, effectively increasing the overall capacity. If one pack has a higher capacity than the other, it will provide more energy to the scooter when needed. Voltage Matching: Since the battery packs have the same voltage, they can be safely connected in parallel without causing voltage mismatch issues. Simplicity: Adding a diode in this configuration would introduce voltage drops and potential efficiency losses. It would also add complexity to the system without providing significant benefits, especially if the goal is to increase the scooter's runtime by using both battery packs. Monitoring and Balancing: While you can connect the packs directly, it's important to monitor their state of charge and ensure they are properly balanced. Battery packs with different capacities may discharge at different rates. To address this, you could implement a battery management system (BMS) or a balancing circuit to ensure that both packs are used evenly and to prevent over-discharge of one pack compared to the other. In summary, when connecting battery packs with the same voltage but different capacities in parallel, it's generally best to connect them directly without diodes. However, you should implement monitoring and balancing mechanisms to ensure the safe and balanced operation of the combined battery packs in your scooter.

As long as same voltage and same chemistry .. for example: lithium-ion to lithium-ion or lead acid to lead acid battery.
18650 to 18650 or 21700 to 21700 lithium battery.
It is also highly recommended as much as possible same age of the battery.
I hope this still help though it was a late reply.

No need to get new controller.
When you do parallel connection it will increase the capacity(Ah) of your battery.

Is it safe to combine batteries directly in parallel like you have done? I am wanting to do the exact same thing for my ebike, but everyone is telling me that I have to use a battery blender (or combiner)
Goodday!
Yes, it is safe.
But you have to consider some factors.
The two batteries must have the same voltages.
Must be the same chemistry(18650 to 18650

Goodday bro!
Sorry late reply.
Adding battery in parallel will extend the range that your scooter can reach.
Meaning it will give you more mileage.
You will get the full potential of you scooter.
Torque and speed may improve depending on the controller and motor of your scooter.
I highly recommend adding battery(parallel) for better performance.
If you want more speed then you have to upgrade three major components.
Higher voltage battery
Controller
Hub motor
All should be in the same rating (eg. 60v)
I hope this made it clear.
Extending battery is about adding capacity(Ah)
The higher capacity, the longer it will run.

It's been more than a year since i did this to my electric scooter.

Goodday!
The 52v will make the motor run, but it's going to be over voltage and may eventually damage the motor.
I recommend to use same voltage rating(48v motor/controler/battery)
There are two options when connecting two batteries.
Parallel connection for increasing the Ah.
Series connection for doubling the voltage.
36v 20ah + 36v 20ah = 36v 40ah (parallel)
36v 20ah + 36v 20ah = 72v 20ah (series)
Parallel ( link the two batteries by connecting the 2negatives and the 2poditives)
Negative to negative.
Positive to positive.

Positive to negative.

does it needs to be same bms ampere and capacity?
and what will happen if the battery aren't of the same voltage(say, 0.2v difference?
If they are not in the same voltage there could be a big current flow from the higher voltage battery to the lower voltage battery because in a parallel connection both batteries try to even eachother out. This big current flow could damage the battery and even cause a fire depending on how much current goes from one to the other. The lower voltage battery has less resistance than the higher voltage one. If you don't have alot of knowledge about batteries I would better not mess with it because these batteries can burn your house easily down.

Hey man very nice build.
One thing u might want to add some inline diodes to the positive of each battery.
So then one battery cannot discharge the other battery
Thank you for the great advise man!
Ride safe!
ChatGPT doesn't recommend it: If you want to connect two battery packs in parallel for a scooter, and the packs have the same voltage but different capacities (ampere-hour ratings), using a diode in this situation is generally not recommended. Instead, you should connect them directly without a diode. Here's why:
Battery Capacity: When you connect batteries in parallel, the total capacity (ampere-hours) of the combined battery packs will be the sum of the capacities of the individual packs.
