Other scenario: my bike has a built in batterie. so every time i want to charge it, i need to carry the entire bike to my flat. therefore i want a 2nd one, that i can use first and recharge easily. if i happen to need more than that power, i can switch to the internal battery on the run.

Hi, i have a question. Currently im using external battery as my reserve. Both internal and external batterries are using same V and Ah. Once i notice internal battery on low, I manually disconnect the internal battery cable and switch to the external battery via XT60. Is there any concern or safety precaution that i should be worry about on my current battery set up or do i need two of this Solid state switch on both batteries? Hi there. So I just want to add some more capacity to my Apollo Pro which is 52v 23ah. I think I would be happy with another 10Ah of capacity. If I add the solid state switch to the arrangement then I would only need to plug my scooter to one port and charge both is that correct?

Yes you can. You can run them together, or separately, by connecting/disconnecting the wires to/from the parallel connector. If you connect them both and try to charge the batteries it may not work because the BMS in each battery pack will conflict with each other.. You will have to charge the battery separately. Or remove the BMS from one of the two battery packs for the charging to work.

Connecting in parallel is a dangerous method,it can burn both of your batteries or degrade them prematurely, one discharging the other. The safest method is to extend the cable from the controller, tonaply a 6 pin swich(ON-OFF-ON) and to use separately the batteries, also charging separately. If y realky want to connect in parallel without switch,y need 2 new batteries with the same voltage, the same brand and the same capacity, fully charged and use the same distance of cable for connecting to controller and charger.Otherwise,y will have errors of charging batteries.

You don’t say which plugs to plug into which XT60 plug for the internal battery or which controller is number one and number 2. If it doesn’t matter you should say it doesn’t matter which ones to plug together otherwise we will be afraid we will get them wrong. You need to be more detailed and precise as many of us know nothing about what to do.

  • @ericklein5097

You cannot discharge and charge with DC current at the same time. Your explanation makes no sense.
The correct answer is if your batteries are at different voltages the current when connected in parallel may be quite high for a short period of time. The battery discharging can likely handle this but the battery taking in that current…well nearly every lithium ion has a charge rate that is a fraction of their discharge rate. The P42A can discharge at 45A (below 80 Celsius) and is likely capable of bursting higher than that without negative consequences (the data sheets often give two life cycle numbers for a slow charge/discharge and a fast charge/discharge so keep that in mind) but the max fast charge rate of the 42A is 8.4A or 2C. You’ll see that even the best power cells from Samsung/Sony/LG typically have a limit of 2C when charging but discharging rates can be 10C.
So one battery might be discharging at a rate that is close to or within manufacturers spec but that means the lower voltage battery will be FIVE time over the safe charging rate.
Voltage differences of less than a volt typically only give very short bursts of current before declining to a much smaller rate but over one volt and you can see some very large balancing currents that last for more than 10 seconds depending on the size of the batteries. So besides voltage difference there are two other factors. Internal resistance and battery size can increase the current rate and length of time if the pack has low resistance and is very large in capacity.
This can be simulated by taking two high IR cells 1V apart and measuring the current flow vs two low IR power cells 1V apart and measuring the current flow. The low IR cells have the ability to balance each other faster albeit at higher currents. The larger the pack the longer it will take them to balance which means more time it will take for the voltage delta to change from 1V to 0.9V

Yes, your message is too long and I was feel like going to sleep. God did tell me that what you said (all of it) is incorrect.. As for the Molicel P42A battery cell handling 45A discharge and 8A charging is incorrect it will cook those eggs for good. Their test rating is fraud. At that rate those cells will go bad very quickly, less than a month. The Samsung 40T cells on the other hand are the opposite, they handle 45 to 50A discharge and last much longer than that. It can handle 8+A charging as well. For the Molicel P42A the safe charging is at 1.5A, that is one and half amp. The owner that runs this company will run into serious trouble cause a lot of high ranking criminals are getting scammed by these batteries. You also need to be careful on the Samsung 40T cells as almost all of them floating in the public market are fake, but performs better than the P42A in charging.
