Nope. It’s definitely Ozma. Dude was pitted against the love of his life for eternity and he’s lost countless friends and families to that battle. He and Salem even had 4 daughters it their conflict killed them.

@@PoisedK1NG_P1N Probably true, but Oz's tragedy I feel is kind of softened by its scale. The man has existed for so long and has faced tragedy on such a massive scale that it's difficult to really feel it. Like it's almost incomprehensible from a human perspective.
I was never her biggest fan, but her story is a damn tragedy.
And in the end, she still had a smile on her face for the people she called friends and made the ultimate sacrifice with them in mind. I'm teary-eyed writing this.
And when Remnant needed him most, he returned.

You know what makes this even sadder than it already is? To my admittedly untrained ear, at the end of the song it feels like it's gearing up for even more, at least one more verse, another solo, anything, but then it just suddenly cuts out. Infinite potential, cut short. Just like Penny
It literally cannot be put any better. 😭😭😭😭 after Penny became a real girl the only thing that went through my mind was “don’t kill Penny”. in my mind I kept on thinking they can have cinder take her power have her finally become the double Maiden as long as they didn’t kill Penny. (unfortunately Penny didn’t agree with me) I didn’t want her getting the Adam treatment and I am deeply saddened that she is dead but at least she didn’t get the Adam treatment and she died on her terms. I was thinking about all the jokes that they could do in volume nine if Penny was alive, “hey Ruby there’s a weird emptiness in my center” “what do you mean penny” “I do not know I can’t explain it” A rumbling sound comes from Penny stomach, she feels hunger for the first time. The many jokes that they could have done. but I guess as the intro states “some lives well and much too soon” and as Penny told us back in volume seven “it will be just like beacon again” they could’ve made a joke with her liking someone else. The possibilities were endless, we need more penny, I need more penny we never once saw Penny and Ruby interact just as friends. Though if Arnolds (murder of birds) theory about the ending of the show turns out to be correct then we will see her again and this time she won’t be brought back just to die again. I like how the song is in three sections, The first part of the song is about Penny before she met Ruby, She was lonely and sad. The second part was after they became friends around volume 2 to 3 she was happy that she finally had a friend. And the last part was volume seven and eight, she grew to be the protector of the mantle so much more than she ever thought and that she’s always been “combat ready”. And then at the very end that last verse is just before she dies.

It was worth it to know you” The worst part about all of this is that after they get out of La La Land she’s going to mention just as often as pyrrha. Now my only hope is they don’t revive her again and we get to see her in the after life, here’s to hoping I guess.
One more thing to mention is that the last line is "A chance [...] to be a girl who finally felt alive." It ends just as her new life was beginning, when she finally felt real. They knew *exactly* what they were doing with this song, and how to inflict maximum pain.
And Pyrrha, both such kind and full of potential. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😢😢😢😢
I've been learning music and training for nearly 13 years, and my trained ear hears the same thing as your ears. Man, she really didn't deserve that.
She was stabbed short... Cut short was Volume 3.
Her death was so bittersweet that I can’t even be mad cause she finally made her own choice and left peacefully
The thing that broke me was she left with a smile she was happy knowing the powers went to a good person 😊

"Even though I can't live for real it was worth it to know you" this line breaks my heart. Even when Penny realises she can never truly be alive she still sees the bright side to her life despite all of the hardship she faced. I love Penny so much. Rest in cinnamon rolls.

The stark contrast with how despair inducing the finale was with how hopeful thing song is is what really gets me
She had come to terms with dying as she was in the Schnee manor. She was hoping she’d get out alive after her humanification, but she was ready to sacrifice herself for her friends.
She left her life on her own terms. It was her choice. That’s why this song is hopeful.

I genuinely haven't cried as hard as I did over Penny. Not even Pyrrha's death mixed with Cold had me crying that hard, and let me tell you I cried DAMN hard then. Also that art is heartbreakingly beautiful

Penny never wished to be a human being contrary to her allusion to Pinnochio-she only wished for was a friend that could see not her robot-persona, but the girl/spirit/entity within such shell. This is a song not just about her but also her love and gratitude for her friends, especially Ruby, the girl who didn’t see Penny as a robot, a weapon, but as a friend. Penny felt as if she was a real girl when Ruby and her friends arrived.

It really makes you stand back and look at just how little we are human now days, we need to remember that something as small as saying hello to someone might save someone's life one day. We all go through these horrible struggles that is life and all need a friend like Penny to remind us that no matter how big or small were all significant

Her death didn't hit me right away, until I realized...she can't come back this time. All her parts were used by the staff and disappeared when the portals were made. And she died as a human, with her body lost. She can't be recovered. Unless he was backing her up regularly after the first death, this one is for real

She was always the realist, she was represented more of Rwby's Morals than any other RWBY Member maybe except maybe sun. But she was given and taken, given and then taken again! in this volume! I used to be optimistic but this shit show needs to end for a show about humanity coming together sure doesn't show it. But my Boy Sun is in shade its about time the fucking Calvary arrived. For a show about huntsmen, sure a lack of them and when there is its pretty bleak. This kids protected that train better than licensed huntsmen.

@@TheKyrix82 This probably sounds ridiculous but I genuinely think time travel is going to come up soon and that could be a way to bring penny back/save her. I'm a sort of new fan so there could be an "absolutely not" from crwby I'm just not aware of, but I think its possible, the past 2 volumes almost seem like they were designed to put the world into an unwinnable situation and a little time shenanigans could fix that. Additionally theirs still 2 relics with unknown powers and time travel is one of the few things i can think of that would be on par with "learn literally anything" and "create literally anything"; additionally as the old adage goes" any fictional property that goes on long enough will eventually A. invent god, B. go to space, C. invoke time travel" and we've already met gods, kinda gone to space, sooooooo its not out of the question.
CRWBY has said that volume 9 is going to be a sort of 8 part 2 so I can't help but wonder if volume 9 will further rubys breakdown over everything going wrong, followed by someone suggesting a classic"maybe its not too late" and then using the power of one of the remaining two relics/or the semblance of a new character to get a redo of the finale. (the only issue with this idea is that if you incorporated time travel it would need to have specific limitations as to not just allow for a "lets time travel all the way back to the vital festival and undo the entire series"
\I know its highly unlikely and would be a very contentious writing choice but i definitely think theirs a possibility

@@gabgalla7403 definitely. "Protecting each other" was blake and yang's line. "Nuts and bolts" references the ship name. "All the feels" is shipper culture. "Talk about cute boys" is explicitly an attempt by ruby to become closer WITH ANOTHER GIRL.
If Penny ever comes up again in the story, crwby is going to have some explaining to do.

Penny is so tragic, but Pietro, her dad, never even got to hug his newly human daughter. Her first death had high odds to be reversible if they were lucky. This is guaranteed to be permanent. He can try to make a new one based on a memory backup, but it won’t be Penny. Poor guy.

Penny's death is the second time I ever cried in this series (the first was in volume 3 episode one when it shows monty's symbol with the sun and crows)
Everytime I think, "Rooster Teeth can't top THAT." And everytime they do, and I'm blown away with feels and awe at the writing and music of this show. I've never been part of a Fandom that cares so much about a show as RWBY's FNDM does. And I love it. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Both Pyrrha's and Penny's deaths hit me hard. This show has killed off both it's heart and soul.
Pyrrha's death outshone Penny's they killed her twice to make up for it.

She was, and still is, my favourite character in this show so that hit me hard, especially since, unlike Pyrrha who, let's be honest, was glowing red with death flags from day one, unlike Penny. Yeah, that was the first thing that tipped me off that it was a Penny song when I was hearing it for the first time. Pretty clever

I've listened to this song over and over these past few days and it still makes me emotional. Moments that really get me are the moment when Penny's leitmotif first starts up, "do hugs always make you feel this warm" and the whole part about "humanity comes with sacrifice" ;-;
After so long... the king... returns...
The only thing that hurts worse than what happened to Penny, is that Pietro- her father has no idea right now. He has no idea what's happened to her, he isn't aware of her fate. Just as Qrow doesn't know what happened to the kids -- to his *family*. Penny's wish came true, and she found an ounce of peace. Even if it was grim and bittersweet, she was finally able to make a choice of her own. And that makes every moment of this just that bittersweet. It's just like Beacon, all over again.
It's nice to see you again dude. While this song was definitely emotional. It sure gave everyone a beautiful perspective point of view from a girl who was more human than anyone else.
Just when I think I'm starting to heal from Penny's death, I come across things like this and the pain starts all over.

I notice in the bg, in the beginning at the part where it depicts Penny's machine era, that there's ticking noises. Near the end, the drums play in the rythm of a real heartbeat.

I love all the little references to nuts and dolts and how the fans of them talk about the ship. While I'm happy with them being platonic, I won't lie I was excited to see more nuts and dolts content come back when Penny did. Penny was a wonderful person, someone who deserved happiness. And I'm glad she got that even if it was only a moment.
This is the first time I cried for something that had to do with RWBY. Not even Pyrrha's death was this sad.
Pyrrha's death was shocking and sad for me, but damn Penny's death really hit hard, literally cried when Penny was talking to Winter to transfer the Winter maiden's power T^T
Agreed, Pyrrha's death had shock factor, like my jaw dropped of course but since I was never really invested with her at that point I didn't really care, same with Penny, but with v7 Penny really hit me and became one of my favourites, she kept her naive charm but this time around she had something _more_ and I loved that, and yet I only got to enjoy that Penny for a short time

Man, I was so emotionally drained from the finale that I didn't realize it was a Penny song until partway through the credits then I just lost it. I'm not ready to see how her dad will react next volume(assuming RT didn't forget about him and he escaped Mantle in time). RIP Penny.
Probably the best thing about season 8 was that this was actually much sadder to me than the first time she died. I felt more attached to Penny this time around.( when I got over the frustration that she survived and Pyrrha didn’t) but I also like that she got to pass on the power to winter( who I wish she had a couple more scenes with.)
An Alternate Universe where Pinocchio and Little Red Riding Hood become the bestest of friends? YES PLEASE! Also this Pinocchio hiccups whenever she tells a lie. So adorable.

I came here after finishing Vol.8 for the first time. Penny was my favourite character, and this was the first time I sobbed so much, but smiled too while listening to a song.
Penny and Pyrrha may be gone but they will never be forgotten
This song evokes so many feelings in me, sadness, and glee. This song is so happy and sad its weird lol.
Penny underwent so much character development, from her first appearance to her last. She was very robotic at first, stiff. And even tho she had a fragment of her dad's soul, she was still trying to fit in... she became so human. Literally and figuratively. When she finally becomes human, i knew her end was coming. And she knew it too. A shame it had to come to an end so soon after it began. Its rather poetic. How a former machine can experience so much human emotion, much more than all the other human characters. She experienced life, life being a human. And she knew death too, almost simultaneously, as she saw her metal body explode into pieces. She understood what it meant to sacrifice herself. So quickly. She chose life, and she chose her death. Truly beautiful. I dont think ive ever witnessed someone as beautiful as her.
I always liked Penny as a character but ever since Volumes 7-8, I think she became my FAVORITE out of everyone. I never really felt attached to any of the characters in RWBY but there was a glimmer that caught my attention to Penny and these recent volume fleshed her out (pun intended) appropriately. I'm so glad they made her journey so tragic yet beautiful. We will always remember you Penny.

This was basically Penny's goodbye song to Ruby from the afterlife
Was already sad at Penny's fate but then listening to the song really broke me. The show really won't be the same without her.
This is easily one of my favorites credits song, props to the Casey and others composers

When Penny was revealed to be an oddball because she wasn't a regular person, I never changed my view of who she was; a machine may have been her vessel, but deep inside, the soul of a real girl was there. Penny wanted friends, which she got because she was "strangely wholesome". Even if Penny looked down on herself for being a "fake" person, it was the most human thing she did; to question herself and wonder who she was.
I’m still absolutely gutted they killed her, but this song captures everything I love about her character, and makes it a little easier to mourn.
Same, I really hate roosterteeth brought her back and made her a human only to kill her off again, it’s just not fair
I still feel hurt that her wish came true of where Penny wanted to be a real girl, but then she died, she couldn’t say goodbye to Ruby, the friend that made her feel alive when she was a robot
@@huh5909 i think that's the most upsetting part, ruby still thinks penny's alive, and jaune has to tell him that he killed her. I think this is mirroring V3 when Pyrrha killed Penny. And I find Penny's death rather interesting because it shows us that humanity comes with a sacrifice

As a writer, I think Penny's arc was masterful. As a fan, I am PISSED!!!
I felt a connection with Penny, she was kind of like a fictional older sister to me. She was very important to me as a character. I’ll miss her terribly, I know that we all will... 😢. Thank you Penny, and well done mate...
This song feels like a mix of Christmas music, anime movie ending songs, Japanese live action movie ending songs and Disney music put together. It is sad to see Penny die again. I was not ready for this. She was a beloved character and deserved so much more.
I was never been one to get emotional about music. The most amount of emotion can get out of me is nostalgia, which isn't saying much. This is the only song that can make me feel sad/happy/fuzzy all at once. My compliments to Jeff Williams. Now don't mind me while I try not to cry to this song.
I'm a bit late to add my piece but the verse. "But I found that humanity it came with sacrifice, a pact." Gives me chills every time cause... that was the cost to be human, to be fallible, to be self-sacrificing not because it's logical but because it's right.
People can have their opinions if her death was the right call or not. As I see, a girl who was more human than most finally made a choice on her own terms.

This is such a beautifully bittersweet song. It's happy and hopeful as it tells of a girl who got her wish of having friends and experiencing life. At the same time, it's also impossibly sad because even though that girl had her wish come true, we know she'll no longer be around to keep experiencing it. We know that that time was tragically cut short. Penny will be missed by many, both in universe and out
I think the whole point is that Penny finally got to make a choice for herself, and true to her character, it was a choice that ultimately helped save her friends despite her own safety. It was true genius on the writers parts because the solution was something Penny would so easily do if she knew it help her friends. After all, having friends was everything Penny ever wanted.
it's not good writing at all to punish the fans for liking a character more than the main cast.
@@christopherbravo1813 It has nothing to do with punishing the fans, it's about staying true to to your characters, and Penny doing what she did for her friends' safety is true to her very core.

I first heard this song in a RWBY song comp, but I didn't know this was Penny's song until the lyric "Do hugs always feel this warm," which is close to what she says in the show.

When people give up their lives, they have no clue if it's actually going to make a difference. They don't know if their sacrifice will actually help, but they're willing to do it just for the chance that it might. They don't get to experience the happy ending even if it does happen. They just have to have faith that everything is going to turn out OK.
