Am I the only one who thinks that this song sticks out like a sore thumb? It vastly overshadows the rest of the album. I think this song is fucking amazing, but it's jarring compared to the rest. You can feel the difference between the songs made specifically for RWBY and this.

I completely agree. I've been theorising this pretty much since Volume 6, Chapter 3. Both Salem AND Cinder are the main antagonists of RWBY; either one of them could be the final villain of the series as a whole.

The God of Light said that they would only allow Salem to die if she learnt the importance of life and death, which is most likely what she's going to do -- she'll be redeemed, learn the error of her ways and understand the important lesson that the Gods were trying to teach her, and then she'll die alongside the spirit of Ozma. That's probably how Salem's story will go. Of course, with that comes the potential for Cinder to take over as the sole main villain, rather than sharing the role with Salem. Cinder's motivations are quite a deal more complex than Salem's, and thus Cinder may be a lot harder for Ruby and the heroes to try convincing.
I'd say since volume 6 we've been going up in quality again. 5 was a downgrade for sure, but since then I think they've majorly course corrected. There's still problems but that's just RWBY. It's flawed for sure but I think currently they're in a pretty damn good place with the show. Some of the biggest lore drops in the show are sprinkled into volume 6. This volume (8) has been pretty consistently intense. I'd recommend giving it another shot, the volumes aren't that long!
Indeed. On that subject Cinder's name is actually interesting for another reason. In the oldest tellings of that story, her name was actually just "Ella". But as she cleaned out places full of soot and other things like that she was called "Cinder Ella" by her sisters. It seems in this, her step mother just cut out the middle bit and just decided to name her after the soot she cleaned.
Minor RWBY spoilers!….I can’t wait for Jaune to finally go toe to toe with Cinder and hopefully win. He got stomped the first time, actually put up somewhat of a fight the second time but his sword was broken. Really hope Cinder’s destiny is to finally fall to Jaune. Also his story is really interesting because it could mirror Salem’s. Imagine the end of the series comes and he has the option to revive Pyrrha when the gods return. Would he make the right choice? Man I can’t wait for season 9!!!!!
