    Lenovo Legion Go for me; that screen when in handheld is fantastic to use and when I want to play dock to a display or on a table I can disconnect the controllers and play it like my Nintendo Switch. The others are probably great and I would have gone with a Steam Deck but the removable controllers is what sold me. Plus it has two usb-c ports.

    The Steam Deck (mostly the OLED) wins in most everything but performance (which, for the power it uses, is still pretty good).
    Now, I understand that the technology wasn't as good (still isn't now) when Valve was still designing the og Deck, but this just makes me more hyped with a potential Deck 2.
    Never stop being the pioneer, Valve.

    A GPD device deserved a spot on this list. Windows without a keyboard is just painful.

    • @megaloth1955
      @megaloth1955 4 місяці тому +20

      I have a GPD Win 4, a GPD Win Mini and GPD Win Max 2 6800u, and they all pale in comparison to my Legion Go for me. Windows without keyboard is perfectly manageable a good 99% of the time. The remaining 1% are special situations which can be worked around of using hardware shortcuts like left Legion button + A for Ctrl+Alt+Del and left Legion button + B for always on top On screen keyboard which is good for just about anything (can be customized to use modern OSK that doesn't hide the screen using Ciphray's Bat, for example)
      Either way, it's hardly "painful". At worst, a minor nuisance. As if my GPDs lack any "nuisances". To each his own. I'm kinda sorry I wasted my money on the GPD's, the Go really is my perfect handheld right now.

    • @Anchelspain

      I only ever use the keyboard when I need to login to Steam/UbiConnect/Epic/whatever. Or at most to do a search in a game store. I can live without the extra bulk and compromises that a physical keyboard requires on a handheld. At least I've never felt the need for one. The M1+up combo on the Ally brings up the virtual keyboard after all.

    I'm stoked that Asus decided to make the battery larger in the Ally X, better battery life is what i think we've most needed for these handhelds in the past couple years and all the other competing companies will probably follow suit because of it. If GPD manages to give a bigger battery like that to the new Win4, i might just get one since the Radeon 890m IGPU they'll probably choose for it will literally be more powerful than the GTX 1650 laptop i'm daily driving right now! @JURO768KUJO I did unfortunately get issues with both of the triggers and these issues were both within weeks of my purchase. The RT and LT both were making a loud sound with the spring. First the RT did so I opened up the Ally and I sprayed a bit of white lithium grease onto a fine paintbrush and lightly coated the area where the spring was. A few weeks later I had the same issue with the LT so I did the same. It seems to have done the trick as 2 months on and I am having no repeat issues. I'm not sure if doing this is recommended but personally for me it worked and I havnt encountered any problems.
      I also had a squeak on my d pad after a few weeks but that seems to have just resolved itself without me having to do anything. Of course it's not ideal that such an expensive device should encounter issues like this, but they seem to have been fixed without too much effort and I don't envisage them being an issue again now.

    I've had my Steam Deck (LCD) for awhile, maybe 3mo. after it came out. I didn't get it to play AAA games, but I've changed settings to play games like cyberpunk and it runs fine. The rest of the games available on Steam , especially indie games run like a champ. I get between 3-5hrs of game time and it's a no brainer when hooking it up to an external monitor/tv.
    For it's ease of use, the amount of entertainment I get for the cost -- I think the Steam Deck is the overall pick for casual gamers

    It all depends on what you're looking for in a handheld. I was looking for comfort, small text legibility and screen, and the Legion Go has that in spades. I'm absolutely in love with this thing. I love the Windows complatibility, and not only am I not bothered with it's un-console status, I very much enjoy finding 3rd party apps and workarounds to fully tailor it to my preferred experience, so the Steam Deck doesn't quite appeal to me. The Ally...the Ally is great, especially the X variant, but it lacks Hall Effect and a trackpad, which really helps in a pinch. Plus, a 7" doesn't quite cut it for me anymore, that 8.8" Go display needs to be seen to be believed, it's that good.

    I am an extreme gamer. In my job I design and test diagnostic software for Heavy Duty trucks and equipment. I just wanted to say that you did an amazing job at this breakdown. Not only is the editing on point, but you explained everything perfectly. A lot of people do not understand how these run or what a lot of the components are that make these up. Then you will have a handful that pretend they know these things for reasons I will never understand. You explained it in a way that didn't feel elementary and you didn't announce the extreme technical terminology then follow that up with a condescending explanation, which is a lot of what I see when watching reviews. Good job dude, seriously. I have been back and forth on getting a Steam Deck. I travel A LOT for work. I am in the air constantly. I then spend a lot of time in hotels. When in my room I'm hoping I can HDMI to the TV and watch my streams and play my games. This will work great for me. I know this sounds crazy, but I take my Xbox Series X with me a lot. I have taken my PS5 a few times, but that is only when I am deep into an exclusive. I do take my Switch OLED, but Nintendo is always so behind on getting out their next console and I am just not a huge Nintendo fan. I wasn't even aware of all the competition Steam Deck had until 6 months ago. So watching your video helped me a lot. I hate the idea of this horrible looking frame rate on a newer AAA title, but everything else sounds good. I want to have my Netflix and HBO and all that in the hotel without having to take a giant console.

Lego beats ally X for me most of the time, my OG ally beats it too having 90wh battery mod and 32gb ram mod. Probably returning the Ally X because it just isn't enough upgrade to be worth anything in my use case. But 100% recommend for someones first handheld, behind oled steam deck, the all time king.

    To me the top contenders in the more known brands (outside of Orange Pi, Onexplayer etc) are the Steam Deck OLED and the Rog Ally X. You just cannot beat the OLED no matter what spec LCD you throw at it. The steam deck OLED is stunning but Rog Ally X wins by having 24GB RAM (although we should be expecting it to be 32GB!) iGPUs just need more RAM and with games needing 16GB alone for rendering the world, there is no RAM left to be assigned as VRAM
