People think metal singers can't sing, Corey is one of the best examples of how short sighted those people are! He can scream like nobody else, but he can do literally every other type of music as well. Check out Vermillion part 1 and 2 from Slipknot, or his other band Stone Sour Bother, Through Glass, etc... for more revelations. Corie is the GOAT!

    • @shakeykarma106
      @shakeykarma106 2 роки тому +15

Couldn't agree more! Most metal bands have great clean vocalists. The screaming and growing is a choice, not a lack of vocal skill.

I'd say Christian Älvestam, formerly the lead singer of Scar Symmetry, is one of the best examples of Metal singers who can Scream/growl and also sing very well. Matt Heafy of Trivium is also one of the greats.

It's a strange thing but one of the many upsides of UA-cam's reaction channels is that more and more people are realizing that "heavy" music has so much to offer. The number of reactors who I've watched that admit to always believing bands like Slipknot, Jinjer, Metallica, etc., etc.. were "just screaming" is staggering and now we're all learning to appreciate all kinds of art that we were ignoring. I might still give country music a chance. Probably not but maybe. ;-)

Country music isn't that bad bub, my first love is Metal all the way but I don't want to be in one mindset on music I can listen to Mozart 1 min next some Chris Stapleton (should definitely check out) then the next minute Morbid Angel lol.
      Hope you extend your journey

"I could literally feel the pain in his voice"
At the 6:45 point in your video, you can hear somebody in the crowd let out a loud "woooooah-oh" while Corey is still strumming his guitar a couple steps back from the mic. Then a few seconds later Corey echoes the note the fan sang....the fan's timing was dead on for the recorded version, but during this live performance Corey needed a few more moments to compose himself before continuing. So, yeah...there was absolutely real, raw emotion in his voice.

The song always gives me chills and tears. When a loved one passes, the song takes on new meaning. On that original video (on Corey’s channel) there’s a comment by a guy whose wife was battling cancer (a young couple i think) and he used to sing this song (the orig version) to her softly at night when she was in pain and couldn’t sleep. A long time later, he stumbled on that acoustic live version video and left that comment, and sent his love to his wife. She didn’t survive the cancer. 😢

He wrote this about a woman who helped him through a very hard time in his life. He fell for her but she didn't feel the same way and really messed him up in the end. Then when his friend died it means even more to him. That is why it is so hard for him top sing. I cry every time I watch this video or hear the song. It's beautifully sad.

  • @originone

According to Corey, this is a very personal song. He said the person he’s singing to was someone very special to him who helped him survive a really dark episode of his life. He ended up falling for her and thought she had similar feelings for him. However, at the end of the day she disappointed him in a really heartbreaking fashion.

Corey is an absolute powerhouse. He has such a large range of vocal talent…he can do screaming and he can do slowed down lyrically heavy songs and convey that emotion whether it be live or through the recorded versions. Definitely one of the more talented metal singers that’s out there. He’s incredible. He doesn’t sing this song live very often because it carries such heavy emotion and can be hard for him to sing

Corey is also in Stone Sour. You should react to Bother or Through the Glass. His vocal range is awesome and he's a vocal beast.
This song was about a very dark time in Cory's life, including having to do with a woman who didn't feel the same about him.
Slipknot member and great friend Paul Gray worked on this with him and pushed him to go with it. Cory has said if it wasn't for Paul's support, he wouldn't have recoded it.
Paul Gray died in 2010, and this song forever became dedicated to him. That is where a lot of the heavy emotion really kicked in, and he had a hard time even getting through the song. The crowd would sing it for him as you see a little of here.
RIP PAUL AND NOW JOEY 🤘🤘

This song always hits me like a ton of bricks. It came out right at the time I left my fiancee. It was a horrible break up and lead up to it. I listened to this on repeat for months. It was just somehow comforting knowing someone else out there felt like I did. Hearing it I feel like I'm there again for a few minutes, sadness, anger, tears. Leaving her was the hardest thing I've ever done. We'd been best friends for 7 years and together for 5. The song is like he wrote it looking through my eyes. I haven't had a serious relationship since and I'm pushing 36. I always wanted a big family but I don't know, it kind of broke me. I can't trust anymore.
    TLDR: Song is dope AF

I'm a huge fan of hard rock and heavy bands performing acoustic versions of their music as well. One band that does it impeccably is Starset! It's almost like two bands in one. The studio and normal live concerts have a healthy dose of synth instrumentation. BUT, their acoustic versions, and there are plenty of them, are so much more melodic and emotional. Also, the cello and violin, yes they have a cellist and violinist, are brought even more to the foreground and easily cover the space that the synthetic sounds once had. Trust me, won't regret diving into this band. If I had to recommend a song to start with represents both sides the best it would have to be "Ricochet". I would love to see a reaction listening to both.

Great reaction!! This song always gets me! Since you love great vocal performances w/acoustic you should react to Mark Morton & Lzzy Hale - She Talks To Angels (Live Acoustic). It's a great cover of the Black Crowes song. Mark Morton is the guitarist for Lamb of God and Lzzy has her own band, Halestorm. That duet is phenomenal though.

This besides bother is one corey taylors masterpeices. I love how he writes to a relatable level. Many thought this was about his divorce. He wrote this song about paul grey the bassist and his best friend who died of an overdose. But thats the beautiful thing about music. Whatever note it hits with you it hits

It was written about a lady who helped him. He cared for her in a way she didn't for him.

Yes, he is the lead singer of Slipknot. But, I had a conversation years ago with a friend of mine. Both of us are metalheads. Heavy isn't always the way the music is played. It's the lyrics and more importantly, how you Feel afterwards that gives it a heavy sound.

I would probably describe this better as a letter or a poem than a song. Yes that’s ridiculous lol but it is VERY CLEARLY a direct message to a direct person. Could not imagine the kind of grit to be able to tell that to every soul on the planet. Such and incredible epic

He is singing this song to Paul Grey who had past away not soon after this song hit #1 for Slipknot, Cory Shawn and Paul wrote this song, it was a message from RIP paul grey to his estranged wife
