Couple of extra tidbits: (1) the CX-60 is 34% dearer to service than a CX-5 when you compare the two diesels ($3217 vs $2386 for five years); and (2) make sure you test drive both, especially to see if the CX-60's firmer ride is still acceptable for you. -TB

As an independent in Melbourne I
Get slightly annoyed when you quote servicing costs. As I believe they do not reflect the true costs of maintaining a vehicle over a period of time. If you tell me that your can service a vehicle for $2000-$3000 over 5 years I would like to know does that include tyres, brakes, coolant flush etc because in my experience these are often not part of the deal. I’m not saying what I see is the be all & end all. However in my workshop the common theme is your average car costs around $1200 per year to maintain. Servicing costs are only 1 component of that figure. As we include tyre rotation & safety checks each visit. So these generic figures don’t always add up.

Had both, and loving my CX60 GT PHEV. Definately feels like more room in the cabin, and very well packaged. The PHEV has some grunt to it in Sports mode, and I can usually get my daily km EV only. The ride has softened after 1000km too. Great car.

Drove cx-5 2021 Sports for last 2 years. Now I singed for CX-60. My only competitor for choosing was volvo XC40 petrol which is a lot cheaper than CX-60. But they removed HUD from all trims for new XC40 ..then this was only reason I decided to go with CX-60. My test drive feeling of CX-60 was a lot heavier and firmer than CX-5, but I think I will be familiar with that anyway.

I have a Holden VFII SSV Redline but my daily is a 2022 CX5 touring active diesel. I absolutely love it. It barely goes over 2k rpm due to the massive torque, it's a big small SUV with enough power to do whatever you want, the range is about 600-700ish km - Not too bad! The only hang up is the cost of Mazda vehicles. The price point has increased 10-15k since before COVID. If i were to spend 80-90k on an SUV i don't think I'd be buying a Mazda.

I had ordered and waited over 6 months for the release of the CX-60 which was subject to a test drive. I was very disappointed when I finally drove it as it was not comfortable and the suspension was jumpy. The PHEV fan was also very loud at startup.
I ended up purchasing a CX-5 Akera Turbo and may upgrade to a CX-60 down the track if Mazda fixes the teething issues with this car. I really hope they do as I think it looks and feels premium but they need to focus on the ride quality.

The biggest difference between a CX5 and CX60 petrol hybrid is that the 3.3L is insanely overcomplicated in design, to the point where the 'over engeering' and making everything really complex even leaves the Germans in the dust. The new Mazda engine is something that makes a BMW inline 6 look like something out of a 2000s Toyota.

The CX-60 is definitely better finished. But I have a few issues. 1. With the Takumi pack, the driver and passenger doors look like they were designed by committee (5 distinct colours, 5 different surfaces). Very 'fussy'. 2. The centre console is very wide, pushing the drivers seat very close to the door. Hence the offset of the seat and steering wheel is large 3. Nowhere to put the right foot when using cruise control

I don’t know why Mazda went for a single clutch gearbox rather than a conventional automatic or why it set up the ride to be so firm as these seem to be the two biggest criticisms. If they want to compete with the more luxurious competitors they need the refinement to live up to the promise.

From the US here. Mazda should have made two divisions in my opinion. One division for the regular CX-3, CX-5, CX-7? and CX-9. And a premium division for the CX-30, CX50, CX-70 and CX-90. Then they could have really went upmarket with the upper division and kept the others affordable.

Have a 2019 CX5 GT Diesel - fit, finish, paint on car, around doors and boot are top notch - overall quality 9.5/10. Maybe Mazda are scrimping post covid on their cars. Interestingly, I looked at a new CX60 and the paint on car, around doors and boot were NOT worthy of the premium price. Lots of orange peel - quite disappointing. CX60 Petrol 6 Cyl was nice to drive - but spending $40 -55K to trade up had me thinking there were better cars to buy.

@@scottmackenzie318 If Mazda want to go premium in their models and pricing I think they need to up their exterior finish. My silver CX-5 looks great, I keep it looking as new and waxed and have had PPF put on the exterior plastic pillars. However truth is the paint finish is thin, areas around the tailgate that are seen when the tailgate is open has no clear coat. Chrome window trims are too soft, plastic window trims are far too soft. If they were to improve these things, and make the leather seats more comfy, then I would be happier.
