37:08 Krum is 17. Hermione is 15. Hermione's birthday is in September and the ball is in December. Ron's is in March. Harry's is in July. Hermione is actually 10 months older than Harry.
@@robertmbrown4493 yep but they started september 1st and hermiones birthday is september 19th so she was 12 for most of the first movie and the yule ball is on christmas so hermione would have turned 15 by then
For anyone wondering : - Cedric transfigured a rock into a Labrador to distract the dragon. - Fleur lull the dragon to sleep but it woke up last minute and burn her. - Viktor use a curse to make the dragon blind.
Peter Pettigrew is referred to as Wormtail because of his younger years in Hogwarts with Harry's father. When his friends learned that Remus Lupin was a werewolf, the gang learned to turn into animagus and therefore they all got their nicknames. Pettigrew as the rat guy being Wormtail🐁, Remus the werewolf being Moony🐺, Sirius the dog being Padfoot🐕🦺 and James the stag being Prongs🦌.
This was one of the adaptations that suffered the most going page to screen, because they cut out a LOT, including three major characters, and the return of Dobby the House Elf when he goes to work at Hogwarts in the kitchens. One big thing that is missing is all of journalist Rita Skeeters slanderous articles. She wrote pieces about how Hagrid was 'dangerous' because he is half giant, repeatedly how Hermione was out trying to get any wizard that was not nailed down, misquoted Mr. Weasley when he made a public statement, and the biggest of all, a huge piece on Harry about how he was mentally deranged, a liar, and an attention seeker, which seriously ruined his reputation. Also, they made a weird decision with the foreign schools by only having girls from Bauxbaton and only boys from Durmstrang. In the book there are boys and girls from each school.
@@Hwasasthroneismyface That doesn't really matter. They removed the whole barty crouch mystery by just introducing us to him at the start. Such a bad choice. Also dobby was cut out. Another very bad descision.
36:18 It's not mentioned in the movie but Fleur Delacour has a strong effect on pretty much all the boys around her and some girls it's because she is not fully human. Fleur's grandmother was a Veela which is a bird/human monster(somewhat like a harpie) that can take a completely human appearance and is considered at or near human intelligence and in the lore of Harry Potter Veela have a strong effect on anybody attracted to women. This is why Ron just suddenly asked her to the ball
14:05 How did Neville get into Gryffindor, you ask? The sorting hat looks for the traits you value and most aspire to have. Neville craves boldness, he just hasn't been able to manifest it much due to life circumstances. THAT'S why the hat put him in Gryffindor instead of Hufflepuff. It's why the hat put Hermione (and McGonagall) in Gryffindor rather than Ravenclaw. It's about your values.
I saw someone else theorize somewhere on the internet that although Hermione is highly intelligent, she doesn't quite meet the criteria for Ravenclaw. Ravenclaws are not just smart, they're creative. Hermione's vast knowledge comes from studying. She memorizes everything and can be very by the book, but put her in situations that require more creativity and she is prone to getting stumped. She solves plenty of problems with her brain but if she can't solve a problem with the memorized knowledge she has, she gets flustered. We see it way back in the first book (movie scene was altered): During the Devil's Snare section she couldn't come up with the solution under pressure and didn't even think magically. I believe it was Ron (though it might have been Harry, haven't read the books in ages), that had to remind her that she's a witch and only then did she figure something out. Despite already having studied vast quantities of magical knowledge, the sorting hat could see that she's not a true Ravenclaw and that her courage and boldness are more at the forefront of her personality (even though her brain is the first thing people notice about her). Same with Neville, doesn't seem like a Gryffindor at first but when you delve deeper into who they are and what drives them, their placement makes sense.
The reason why the students from the other schools look much older is because those schools brought their older students since it was only going to be open to 17 plus. Now the two schools is shown as a single sex school, that is not true though they are coed.
Neville's parents went crazy from being tortured by the cruciatus curse around the same time harrys parents were killed. He was raised by his grandmother. Thats why he was so effected by seeing the curse in person.
@@tornadochaser2457 Yeah, its eluded to in some later movies that something happened to them. One moment looking at a photo saying "they suffered a fate worse than death". But they really don't explain why or how. Would have taken up just one line in the movie to explain it, don't know why they didn't. They live in the wizard hospital in the psych ward. Neville goes to visit them occasionally but they don't know who he is.
@@kellie6048 "they suffered a fate worse than death". Damn, now it legitimately appears as if it's an actual, logical necessity that this is put in the film, simply to make this line make any sense at all.
@@tornadochaser2457 Kind of late to this, but they do specifically mention part of what happened to them in this movie, but you have to be paying attention to every line. In the memory of the trial scene with Karkaroff when he's about to give away Barty Crouch Jr., he says, "I know for a fact this person took part in the capture and, by means of the Cruciatus Curse, torture of the Auror Frank Longbottom and his wife." It's not in this cut, but it's at about 50:20 It doesn't explicitly say they went mad, but it would explain why Neville reacts the way he does to the Cruciatus Curse.
I'd like to add that one of Britain's most famous writers and comedians with a list of awards as long as your arm and a CBE to boot is Eric Sykes who plays the caretaker at the beginning of the film. A star for over Fifty years.
18:55 they don't explain it much here, but yeah, tl;dr: basically Ron's jealous. you have to understand that Ron grew up in a poor family with multiple (7) siblings. being the younger son he always got second hand clothes, second hand books, second hand everything. even Scabbers (his former pet rat, now Wormtail) was previously his brother Percy's pet! besides that, all of his older brothers excelled at something: Bill and Charlie (not shown in the movies) were successful adults with good jobs, Percy was Prefect, Head Boy and excelled in his studies, and the twins we're both extremely popular for being funny and their pranks (besides, both of them were part of the Gryffindor Quidditch team)... Ron always felt extreme pressure to kinda lay low _and at the same time_ try to be good at something. then he made two great friends: one of them, Hermione, "the brightest witch of her age"; the other, worldwide famous Harry Potter which, on top of that, is crazy rich. so _of course_ Ron's been developing a very big inferiority complex, since pretty much day 1. that's why in HP 1, when he sees himself in the Mirror of Erised he sees himself as a winner and popular and loved, because that's what he desperately wants, to be acknowledged. to be more than "another Weasley" and "Harry Potter's friend" (which is ironic, because the movies did him dirty and kinda make him exactly that lol). so when one of your best friends, who is already extremely famous (and every year "saves the school" and gets more famous), gets into a Tournament that it's said to give the winner "eternal glory" (and loads of money, something Ron desperately wants), of course he will be at least suspicious of Harry lying to him and will be extremely insecure about himself. so, imo Ron's jealously and inferiority complex is much better explained in the books, but there are hints in the movies. his jealousy around Hermione comes from kinda that same place, but yeah, in both instances he's wrong and shouldn't treat his friends that way, but also his friends should've been a bit more understanding of Ron's feelings and the context in which he grew up (except when he's gratuitously a jerk to Hermione, like, come on, Ron, stop!). sorry for the long comment, but it might be helpful. this is my first comment here, but i've been loving your HP reactions, you're both too cute together. take care! :)
Thank you so much for the insight here! It’s been hard to understand each of the characters deeply or their nuances since we didn’t read the books. So we are picking up on these beloved characters only through the movies. But we appreciate all of this insight and does make sense now in retrospect! Thanks for watching this amazing series with us! ❤️🥰🙏🏽
@@MeeshDeeReacts omg thank you for replying so fast (wow!) and your lovely comment! :) yeah, i know this series could be a lot, especially for people that haven't read the books and also because it has a lot of characters and moments that sadly for time's sake couldn't been better explained. it's perfectly understandable to struggle with names and motives, etc... so, don't worry and hang in there! u u' and if you have questions moving forward i will try to answer them (obviously without spoilers, so feel safe hehe). thanks again and have a great week you two! :)
and also! in the book fred and george spend weeks maybe, figuring out how they could fool the cup into letting them put their name in, ron and harry joke about maybe joining them if they figure it out, then when harry gets chosen Ron actually thinks he came up with a way to put his name in and didnt tell Ron!
@@MeeshDeeReacts A callout to you two Fleur Delacour is not from an all-female school she is from Frances's top school of Wizardry 'Beauxbatons Academy of Magic' which is a Co-education school. If you remember Nicolas Flamel the maker of Philosopers Stone (OG Name) the American version of Sorcerrors Stone. The school has the highest number of Famous Female Witches as they are French which I love. Fact the Tri-Wizard Tournament only allows the best so all the candidates in this movie are females and their entourage are also female same in the case of Viktor Krum as they are shown as a boys school which is not. Fun Fact it is not Soccer it is Football as yours is American Football the US is not the World but it is vice versa. Don't take it in the wrong way but it is a British Origin story turned into a Movie. Love from India (don't worry I still hate Winston Churchill but not the current UK citizens). ✌🖖💓
Great comment. I remember watching this movie and the next thinking 'how on earth are people understanding this if they haven't read the books?' after all the books are door stoppers. But people did and that's testament to all who made them. My goodness I'm excited for the TV adaptation
You guys are doing great, just want to say how enjoyable y'all make it for us following along. The audio and mic quality makes such a huge difference for the viewer! Can't wait to see more 🙌
This movie doesn't really explain how cool it is the way Harry solved the first task... In the book it shows him practicing the summoning charm on his broom and talks about how it's difficult to summon objects, even ones you are familiar with, from that distance away, which would have been from inside the castle all the way out to the pitch they were having the challenge in... When he yells, "Accio Firebolt" in the movie there is very little context given, other than that in the previous movie it established his new broom model as Firebolt.
In the last movie, the creators of the marauders map are called Mooney, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs. They were, Lupin, Peter, Sirius and Harry's dad James when they were friends at hogwarts. Lupin being a werewolf had to me isolated during his transformations so the others became animagus so they could transform themselves into animals and could accompany him (werewolfs are not agressive thowards animals). They grew up, Peter betrayed James, turn into a rat and escaped, Sirus was framed, Lupin was left all alone. and the rest is history. Book stuff they don't explain well in the movies.
Plus her empathic/empathetic attitude (frowning) when someone's harmed, while Dee is just laughing xD (so Griffindor of her, as she knows it's not hard injury, it will recover so it's like she thinks "don't worry, laugh of the situation and go back to your adventurous journey, kiddo")
Fun fact: at 48:29 when Barty Crouch gets nervous & walks away from Moody, he gets heartbroken because he realizes it’s his son in Polyjuice potion because he notices his son’s tongue tick.
Omggg😂😂😂 you said “wormjuice” 😂 that’s by far the best I’ve heard yet! Love it! Can’t wait til you see the rest. Definitely subscribing so I can watch!
Wormtail is Pettigrew's nickname from the school years, when he was a part of the following friend group: Remus Lupin (Moony), Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail), Sirius Black (Padfoot), and James Potter (Prongs). They have created the Marauder's Map of Hogwarts that Harry has. This is never explained in the movies.
I had a theory about author order. Moony (Remus) figured out the magic of it, Wormtail (Pettygrew) was the artist and Padfoot and Prongs (Sirius and James) were the explorers that found all the secrets.
Fun fact the actors are all told not to cut their hair in between film production so that the hair stylists can choose their style for the film but when the new director for this film came in, he didnt know about this, and when he saw the actors he loved the long hair so much he decided to keep it. The actors apparently hated it though 😭
There is a lot of stuff like this with the Director Mike Newell changing a lot of story decisions or scenes for Goblet of Fire. He also refused to read the books and only read a few passages so he didn't even understand the film he was making to be changing story decisions. I personally think he was the worst director of all the movies he really didn't care about the source material. We went from one of the best directors of the series with Prisoner of Azkaban to the worst director of the series with Goblet of Fire.
8:05 They have 1 Asian at Hogwarts. One of the earliest criticisms of Rowling that I remember seeing was her lack of diverse characters in the books, and the few she did write were all basically stereotypes, particularly their names. Cho Chang is one of the most commonly referenced, because from what I read the names she chose are actually two surnames from different languages. They actually made a joke about this in the popular fanmade parody/musical because it’s such a well known criticism in the fandom.
I went to look at your bio bc i was trying to see more about yalls ethnicity. I never would have thought yall were married! But now that i know i can definitely see it ❤😂 how you ladies look at each other you can see the connection
2:10 I was there that day in 2005, I remember people actually were clapping when the WB logo rolled. It was my first time experiencing applause in a theater and it was so cool.
Actually in the book the schools visiting Hogwarts are NOT all girls/ all boys. It doesn't even make sense for them to be all girls/ all boys because they are the main schools of each their countries. It would be weird for the main school of a whole country to teach only one gender, right? 😅 I don't know why they did that in the movie, but it's one of my least favourite changes. Also, just to be clear: the students underwater were not gonna die, obviously. The teachers would remove them from the water if the competitors didn't. And in the book the dragon did not escape and followed Harry around, there were bars stopping him from flying away. And there were witches and wizards prepared to stop the dragon if it did fly away, but if never did. Fun fact about Voldemort: in the books his eyes are not white, they are RED actually. And also: Lucius Malfoy is a terrible person, yes. But I just want to be clear that (despite some of Draco's crazy fans say 🙄) he does not harm or abuse his son. He does teach him to be terrible and prejudiced like him, but he never hurt him. So there is no "bad childhood" or "abusive trauma" behind Draco's behavior. Obviously it's his parents fault he is the way is because they are the ones teaching him to be like this, specially since Lucius is a death eater (Draco's mom is NOT a death eater, but she does support Voldemort) but he is actually pretty spoiled by them. And they do love him as well.
I don't care how many times I see this movie. The ritual to restore Voldemort, and seeing him rise out of the cauldron will always simultaneously send shivers racing up AND down my spine and make me nauseous. Trivia: They got the movie appearance of Voldemort almost identical to the book. There is one missing detail: in the book, Voldemort is described as having blood-red eyes with a slit-like pupil. It is understandable why they didn't use creature contact lenses of Ralph Fiennes in the movie adaptations since it would eliminate the realness of Voldemort's threatening presence. The arachnid the imposter Mad-Eye Moody was demonstrating The 3 Unforgivable Curses on was a whip scorpion. As someone who was sorted into Hufflepuff on The Wizarding World website, Cedric Diggory's death hit hard. Especially seeing Amos run onto the quidditch pitch and hearing him shout "That's my son!! That's my boy!!" Backstory: Neville was traumatized by the Cruciatus Curse's usage because his parents were tortured into insanity with it.
Honestly the eyes are an improvement to the books. I think the whole point of what makes characters like Voldemort scary is how human they are yet how evil they are. If you add red eyes it just turns the villain into a caricature.
Cho is adorable. Especially with that Scottish accent. Lol. Yep! Ron's an a$$-man. Later in the movie he says "You know how I like to watch them walk." In the books, Hagrid is nearly 12' tall. They sized him down to 8 feet for the movies. Moaning Myrtle is a dirty girl. 😄 She was also Voldemort's (Tom Riddle) first victim. He successfully put the blame on Hagrid's pet spider, Aragog. The grave is Voldemort's father. Tom Riddle Sr. Good reaction. Looking forward to the next one!
51:13 I think there was a comment mentioning it in the previous movie reaction but Wormtail is Peter Pettigrew's nickname fro his school days, he was one of the four that created the Marauder's Map. Each of the four took a nickname based on their animal form Lupin is Moony(werewolf), Sirius is Padfoot(dog), James is Prongs(Stag this is also why Harry's true Patronus is a Stag) and Peter is Wormtail(rat).
Funny you mention the other three students competing being much older, they're all literally several years older than Daniel Radcliffe. Robert Pattinson is around four years older at age 19 at the time of this film coming out, Stanislav Ianevski the actor for Viktor Krum was 20 and Clémence Poésy who played Fleur Delacour is actually the maturest and was 22-23 at the time.
I'll always remember the day this book came out. There were no films or merch or anything. Just the books. Outside every bookshop in my town were queues of people. It was so moving
There's supposed to be roughly 14 in this film The characters. They start when they're 11, so the Philosopher's Stone they were supposed to be 11 secret 12 Prisoner of Azkaban 13 and got a little fire 14.
1:04:08 I mean, Lucius tried to bring Voldemort back even before Wormtail. Lucius slipped Tom Riddle’s diary into Ginny Weasley’s cauldron in the second movie.
I really like how you just enjoy the movie/movies and not try to over analyze them. It's always a joy to see You watch a movie and truly enjoy what is meant to be and that is to try to pull you into it and immerse into the world of Harry Potter
Thank you! Exactly 🥰🙏🏽 we really appreciate this comment. This is exactly why we jumped into the Potterverse to begin with… completely unbiased and have no idea what the actual details of the movies are (since we didn’t read the books). But so far we are LOVING the whole series! Of course, there’s only so much we can pick up on by watching the movies as opposed to reading in detail, but we are enjoying being present and watching these movies for the first time. Thanks for your kind comment! ❤️🙏🏽
During the first challenge the dragon challenge, Harry use the spell accio and then he said Firebolts the name of his broom is a Firebolt he was calling his Firebolt to him. That's what accio does it calls a particular object to you that you need.
21:35 ... There is an old saying, "Keep your enemies close, keep your friends even closer." I think that's what Sirius is saying. Friends sometimes turn out to be Peter Pettigrew...🤔
In the book Prisoner of Azkaban we find out that James Potter's nickname is prongs cuz he turns into a stag, Sirius Black is called padfoot because he turns into a black dog Remus Lupin is called Moody because he gets quite Moody when he turns into a werewolf, and Peter Pettigrew is wormtail. This we find out in book 3, Unfortunately they don't really mention it in the movie except for their names as the Marauders which they were the four Marauders the creators of the Marauders map.
I feel like this movie makes Ron out to be really unlikeable. The book does a way better job explaining his struggles, the way he has always been overshadowed either by his older brothers or by his friend. He's just had enough. Also, in the book he encourages Harry to enter together in the tournament but Harry says that he is not interested. Then he is chosen by the goblet and Ron thinks that Harry lied and entered behind his back. Yes, Ron still makes a mistake but maybe these details show where his feelings came from.
A popular fan theory is that in 1694 when wizards declared secrecy and seperated from the muggle world, any muggles that saw the Killing Curse "Avada Kedavra" and had their memories wiped only remembered what we know as "Abracadabra" to be related to magicians and entertainers.
Each school only sent a small delegation likely to make it into the tournament. So the students were older from the other schools. The book describes the great hall as having about 20 people extra after the other schools arrived. Also the two schools were not one gender only schools like shown in the movie. The prize money was 1000 galleons for winning the tournament. In the book they are told this beforehand. And they are not told the specific tasks. But they are warned that they are very dangerous. Be sure you are willing to compete before entering.
If you remember in Prisoner of Azkaban, when they introduce the Marauder's Map, the quote reads, "Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs are proud to present the Marauder's Map." Moony - Remus Lupin Wormtail - Peter Pettigrew Padfoot - Sirius Black Prongs - James Potter
The third task indead was a Labyrinth with Monsters and different obstacles in it in the book. Like a Boggart, a giant spider, blast-ended skrewts (a magical dangerous beast bred by hagrid which they studied this year in his classes, and also a Sphinx that gave you a Riddle.
This is the movie the book readers like the least. They cut out a lot of important plot points, entire characters and character arcs, altered what happened to Barty and his son and a lot of other events, and so so so much more. I probably can't fill it all into a comment, you'd almost have to read the book. Looking forward to see you react to the 5th one! It's one of my favourites.
I like Half Blood prince far less than goblet of fire tbh. That film gets under my skin, it's such a bad adaption. SPOILERS FOR HALF BLOOD PRINCE At least here, they tried to focus on things that mattered but HBP is just a teen rom com that cuts 90% of Voldemort's memories, has a massive tonal problem, focuses on the romance while doing a terrible job at it and adds scenes that don't make sense (the burrow, harry flirting with the muggle girl, all the cringy lavender scenes..) It's a matter of opinions but I personally can't sit through and enjoy that film knowing what the book is like.
@@grace19005 I think that HBP is equally irky for the reasons you mention. A little note: since they read comments, try to avoid spoilers :) Keeping book and movie separate helps me a bit.
18:00 Damn, I was hoping you’d include the part where Dumbledore basically pins Harry to the wall and yells at him so I could post this line from the book: “Did you put your name into the Goblet of Fire, Harry?” [Dumbledore] asked, *calmly.*
Wormtail got his nickname back in 1970...the year James Potter became a seeker, and got his trophy badge in the display case. The same year the Mauraders offically made their map and rampaged Hogsmeade.
Harry was still at the Dursley's most of the summer. The Weasley's went and picked him up themselves that year, so Harry could stay at their place before going to the Quidditch World Cup. They just cut the scene to try to fit the entire book into one movie. That was where the Twins pranked Dudley, and it kinda leads into their decisions in the next movie.
Avada Kedavra is the real-world etymology of the modern word "abracadabra". It's an ancient Arabic curse meaning "Let the things be destroyed". In the Potterverse, "abracadabra" is a distorted memory that lingers in Muggle culture along with all the other trappings of a world in which we no longer believe, the Wizarding world having gone underground several centuries ago.
I am 40 years old, and I wish I looked as young as the guy playing Victor Krum, who was 20 when this movie came out, and honestly looks great now at 39.
The girls are from Beauxbatons Academy of Magic which is in the Pyrenees mountains of Southern France. While the boys are from the Durmstrang institute which is somewhere in Northern Europe and probably in one of the Scandinavian countries. Hogwarts, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang are the three biggest and oldest magical schools in Europe. Other major magical schools mentioned are Ilvermorny in USA. Castelobruxo in the Amazon rainforest of Brazil. Koldovstoretz in Russia Mahoutokoro in Japan Uagadou in Uganda, Africa
@@dmscnn Sorry you are totally wrong and mistaken... Durmstrang is not in Bulgaria especially if u go by the vague but still somewhat specific description of the Durmstrang school by J. K. Rowling herself.
Peter Pettigrew's nickname has been Wormtail since the Marauders era, when all the marauders had nicknames. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs. You will see people refer to Sirius as Padfoot at various points in the series going forward.
He's always been 'Wormtail', he's part of the 'Marauders' (the map that shows everyone's location) with Harry's Dad (Prongs), Sirius (Padfoot), and Lupin (Moony), all of which are an Animagus...Which is extremely difficult to pull off, I recommend reading what it takes to become one...and they did so in order to keep Remus company during the full moon when he becomes a werewolf... it seems as though whatever your patronus is, that's the animal you necome as an Animagus, you don't have any control over the animal you become. McGonagall is also one, she turns into a cat, but she's registered. All Animagi have to legally register with the Ministry Of Magic to let them know what you become, but none of the Marauders did that, and that's thankfully why Sirius was able to stay both sane in Azkaban, aswell as escape it...cause dementors don't feed on or pay any attention to animals, so he just walked out of his cell as a dog and no one knew how he was able to do it. If they had known he could change into a dog at will, they would of made sure he wouldn't of been able to escape. I'm sure there's a lot of unregistered Animagi in the Wizarding World, but it's a steep penalty if you fail to register and get caught... Peter Pettigrew becoming a rat was far too fitting, even his human form took on the look of a rat since he spent the previous 12 years hiding as one with the Weasleys....Peter cut off his own finger for the Aurors in the Ministry to find after killing abunch of muggles in an explosion while fighting Sirius, that way everyone thought Sirius killed not only Peter, but those muggles aswell...Even Sirius thought he killed Peter, that's why he was laughing maniacally when caught by the aurors and sent to prison without trial as a 'Death Eater' when he wasn't one, and everyone thought it was Sirius who sold his best friend out to Voldemort, along with his family....When Sirius saw the picture of Peter as a rat in the Weasleys family photograph from Egypt after winning that prize, he decided too escape and get revenge on Peter for selling the Potters out to Voldemort, aswell as for framing him for something he didn't do. The books go into far more detail, I recommend reading them and then watching the corresponding movie right after finishing each book.
I'm fairly certain that the dragon Harry faced, is the same hatchling that poisoned Ron, in the first movie. Also, one of Ron's older brothers, is the dragon keeper and is how Ron knew of them. This is also when said brother and Delacroix meet and start seeing one another.
The other schools only brought students who were of age for the tournament. First Years are 11. Besides the Cup, the winner gets 1,000 Galleons. Harry first offered the money to Mr Digory, who refused it. He gave the money to the Twins to start their joke store, but they had to buy Ron new dress robes. A Ball is a very fancy Dance where everyone dresses up for the occasion. What got to me was Cedric's father's anguish.
51.07 The Mauraders. James "Prongs" Potter, [ for his Animagus animal form, a Stag/Elk.],Sirius "Padfoot" Black, black Wolf, Peter "Wormtail" Pettigrew, The Rat. Remus "Moony" Lupin. Werewolk. [ Full moon.] James and Sirius learned shape shifting in school to help protect Remus. [ Possibly Lilly also, after their marriage, but that's just a guess.] Pettigrew, however, had ultierior motives that running with the gang just helped hide.
There are 17-18 year old students at Hogwarts. They graduate after 7 years at Hogwarts. Also wizards are considered adults when they turn 17. The twins are just a few months shy of being 17. In the book there was a large amount of money as a prize too not just the trophy abd eternal glory. Crouch Jr used the Confundus Charm (causes confusion) on the Goblet of Fire. He made it think there were 4 schools participating and Harry's name was the only one entered. Those aren't baby dragons. They're just magical replicas of the dragons they have to face. Harry's dragon didn't break loose in the book. That's just gratuitous movie action. As others explained Accio is a spell to call things to you. Harry called his Firebolt broom to the arena. Hermione turned 15 right after school started in September and Krum is supposed to be 18 at most so not that big an age difference. Death Eaters are Voldemort's followers. Dementors are the guards at Azkaban that suck all the happiness out of people.
The four Messrs of the Marauders Map is Prongs (James Potter), Padfoot (Sirius Black), Moonie (Remus Lupin) and Wormtail (Peter Pettigrew). They were all friends of Remus and to help Remus when he turned into a werewolf each month the three friends learned how to become an unregistered Animagi. James learned to become a Stag, Sirius a large black dog and Peter a rat. Moonie got his name because of turning into a werewolf for each full moon. Since a werewolf's bite and scratch does not cause other animals to turn into a werewolf, the three friends would turn into an animal to be with Moonie each night of the full moon to be able to play and run with their friend.
I was about 24 when these came out and had read the Tolkien books but never considered these franchises as being in competition. I think adults dismissed Harry Potter initially because the first 2 movies are straightforward kids movies (directed by Home Alone’s Chris Columbus). It’s not until #3 that the franchise really begins to open up and most people don’t jump into the middle of a franchise. The books and films follow the characters as they go from preteens to young adults and this gradual climb in emotional IQ and physical appearance, being done in such high filmmaking quality, is what makes the films beloved and rewarding to rewatch over and over.
@@MeeshDeeReacts I see your point though in comparing them because it is both fantasy and growing up with Star Wars, reading Tolkien, etc, I am predisposed to like the genre. Looking forward to the rest of your reaction to the series (have really enjoyed both of your perspectives and commentary). The production team being able to keep all the core original actors (aside from Dumbledore: RIP Richard Harris but kudos to Michael Gambon) and then having the same director helm the last 4 films is something special that we don’t see often.
I always thought Harry did Ron dirty with the dress robe deal. If my best friend was given an old suite that had lace on it....I know he will be made fun of at the dance and have some bad self esteem. I would just buy him new robes when I got new ones (because we all know Harry didn't have them before) and be like "i got you bro" or "you can get me back for something in the future man". But he just lets Ron wear the old robes.
the ladies of the Beauxbatons Academy are magical Veelas, who are almost irresistible to mortal men. and you need to look up the curses, Avada kedavra is the killing curse
In the books, they are a lot more clear about the prize for the winner of the tournament. They just say "eternal glory" is the prize in the movie, which naaaaaah, i'm all good if that's it. But they win money, as well
In the bookS they explain that harrys and voldemorts wand are brothers thats why they connect and that makes the charm priori incantatem which means previous charms therefore the souls of their fathers and cedric where summoned by voldies wand since those where the souls that the wand has killed
"Messr's Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs are proud to present the Marauder's Map." Moony = Werewolf = Prof. Remus Lupin Wormtail = Rat = Peter Pettigrew Padfoot = Dog = Sirius Black Prongs = Deer = James Potter 4 friends who together made the Marauder's Map and also all but Moony become animagi. All done in order to slip away together and keep him company in animal form during the times he transforms at the full moon. Those names are code words they came up with, based on the bestial forms only they knew amongst each other.
I just had a flashback of this movie when I was watching the Walking Dead Daryl Dixon series bc the girl that plays Fleur (the blonde girl in the tri wizard tournament) starred in it. It took me a few to figure out where id seen her face😂 crazy to see her grown
I felt I wasn’t keen on Hermoine either in the ball scene, she also didn’t ask Ron out, despite liking him, so really they’re no better than each other there 😅. I also think Myrtle would be seen as so quirky is the sexes were reversed 🫢
I am a huge Lord of The Rings fan as well and I absolutely LOVE Harry Potter just as much - I am just a huge fan of anything Sci-fi or Fantasy! Also I would definitely recommend you guys reading the books after you finish the movies. It dives so much more in depth and it's so intertwined and deep and unique.
Hold onto your hats! Ron is about to enter puberty, and it hits like an atomic bomb, spilling over on EVERYONE! Poor Ron grew up in a huge family sharing a tiny house. They were all boisterous loud individuals, and Ron had nowhere to hide. He was the youngest of six boys, so was teased and pranked and his space was constantly invaded. The poor boy had no privacy and had to be constantly on guard for what his brothers might next do to him. It's said Ron's fear of spiders comes from the twins turning his teddy bear into a large spider! So many people, so few resources. Ron grew up with a bad case of food insecurity; you had to be quick or devious to have enough or to have much choice. You see, as time goes on, Ron eats almost obsessively and 'helps himself' to others' food and treats. His food insecurity is transitioning to poor impulse control. Family dynamics has also led Ron to poor self-esteem. His brothers are all ambitious and accomplished, leaving Ron wondering how he can possibly make his mark in the family or even in the world. Even his quiet little sister is making her mark. Ron is just lost in all this. And up rises Ron's hormones, hitting like gangbusters. He has developed no self-reflection; he doesn't really know who he is or even a direction for himself. He doesn't even understand that he has an attraction to Hermione or that Hermione is aching for Ron to realize how totally smitten she is with him. All the signs have been there, but he just has no clue. And poor suffering Hermione, who wants him to realize this himself, not tell him what he should feel. It's a crazy year for Ron, who doesn't understand his insecurity projected at Harry or understand what Hermione means to him. _____________________________ The film opens at Riddle Manor, with the caretaker thinking some kids have invaded the property, but it's actually Voldemort and two of his supporters. Tom Riddle Jr (Voldemort) is the only son of rich muggle Tom Sr and a witch Merope Gaunt. (In Greek mythology, Merope was the faintest star of the Pleiades and the only one to marry a mortal.) The Gaunts were a pureblood family, so were not amused when Merope married a muggle. Merope held Tom Sr in bondage by feeding him love potions. When she stopped and he regained his senses, he abandoned her. Tom Jr spent time in an orphanage before Dumbledore brought him to Hogwarts. His flat affect and inability to feel love or empathy is likely due to effects from the love potions, much as cocaine can permanently affect crack babies. Riddle Manor sits alongside an ancient church and a graveyard with centuries of graves of the well-established Riddle family. The gravestone with the death figure brandishing a scythe is Tom Sr's grave monument, as attested by his name carved into it. _____________________________ This entire film seems to be about the relationships between fathers and sons. See if you can count the pairings. _____________________________ Harry is not 'living with' the Weasleys; he's just spending the night before a predawn trip to the Quidditch World Cup. _____________________________ As you first enter the Quidditch World Cup camping grounds, there's a juggler whipping around a huge quantity of fringed white items; those are foreshadowing events to take place in the Dark Lake by Hogwarts. The white things mimic grindylows, a water demon that travels and attacks underwater in swarms. They grab swimmers and drag them deep below the water surface so as to drown their victim. First, they attack Fleur before she finds out her sister is being held by merpeople, then they attack Harry as he is struggling to hold his breath and get Ron and Fleur's sister to the surface. Harry uses the same Immobilus spell Hermione used on the Cornish pixies to stun them and escape. _____________________________ All schools of magic are coed. It seems like Beauxbaton is all girls and Durmstrang is all boys, but they're actually both coed. Also, Hagrid and Madame Maxine (Headmistress of Beauxbaton) do have something in common; both are half-bloods with one parent being of magical ancestry and the other parent being of the giant race. Madame Maxine denies her giant ancestry, claiming she's 'big-boned', but the markers are too obvious to be anything else. Giants average a height of about 20 feet. Half-giants average about 10 feet, which matches Madame Maxime's height. But Hagrid's wizard father was of unusually short stature, so he comes in at only about 8 foot tall, 2 feet shorter than Madame Maxime. They get on quite well until Madame Maxime denies her giant ancestry to his face, and he is upset that she does not take pride in it the way he does. They break up, but eventually return to being just good friends. Hard to blame Madame Maxime for this. Giants as a race are similar to trolls in that they aren't that intelligent. Hagrid's father was brilliant, but Hagrid is barely able to read and can't spell. Hagrid can keep his own secrets, but he struggles to keep others' secrets ("I shouldn't have told you that!"). The fact that Madame Maxime has risen in her academic career to headmistress of one of only 11 schools of magic worldwide says a great deal about her intelligence. But she still has to hide her ancestry to be taken seriously against the prejudice against giants. _____________________________ Viktor Krum is 17 and finishing his final year. But, being an adult, he has already begun his professional career in the World Quidditch League. In fact, the age restriction for the Tri Wizard Tournament is set at 17 because at 17 the participants are legal adults and can choose to do dangerous activities if they want to. _____________________________ The first Unforgivable Curse (the Imperious Curse) was used by Quirrell on Harry when Harry was ordered to come down to the Mirror of Erised. If you ever questioned why Harry would obey the command, it was because he couldn't resist the power of the Imperious Curse. _____________________________ Let's clarify this right away: Rita Skeeter is NOT either a reporter or a journalist; she's a gossip columnist. If the gossip and rumors don't have enough zing in it, she 'embroiders' the facts (makes stuff up). She is totally unethical. _____________________________ Looking at Mad-Eye Moody, you can see how magical injuries are so much more serious than naturally-caused ones. Mad-Eye was a longtime and successful auror (magical police). His job was to locate and bring to justice dark wizards/witches and after trial take them to Azkaban. This means many vicious wand-duels and suffering the landing of many curses. It took a leg, it took an eye, and it left him a whole lot of scars. These things, caused by magic, do not heal. He's probably lucky to be alive. _____________________________ The tiny dragons pulled from the pouch, to determine order of play, are not baby dragons. In fact, they are not real living dragons at all, no more than the pieces on the wizard's chess board are real people. They are temporary creations of magic, conjured for the moment. _____________________________ Others have addressed the minimal age difference between Krum and Hermione. But what is important is why Krum would ask Hermione when he had his choice of so many girls. Krum is an adult and a solidly practical individual. Being from Bulgaria, he also has a deep cultural appreciation for politics. I think he could read that Hermione is a person of some importance with a significant and serious future ahead of her. This confluence of three magical schools has been pitched to every student of every school as an opportunity to build connections that may become important in future years. I think Krum sees Hermione as a person of substance who will be important in the political sphere, and he wanted to establish a contact and build a possible future opportunity. You'll note that Krum treats her with great respect; he doesn't try to take advantage of her. You'll also note that Krum gives her his contact information and requests that she write him. In fact, Hermione and Krum correspond many times over the years. After saying goodbye in the courtyard, she asks Ron and Harry to write her, and they blow her off. Boys. _____________________________ Again, the short white creatures with pointed teeth and tentacles below the waist are grindylows, not merpeople. Fleur retired before she found out her little sister was being held, because the grindylows freaked her out. Then, as Harry was leaving with Ron and Fleur's sister, the grindylows attacked Harry.
WEIRD FACT: During some period of time muggles were under great threat by dark wizards. They would hear the curse "Avada Kadavra" , but it's likely anyone close enough to hear it, died. Like a game of 'telephone', the actual curse was lost in translation and muggles have since associated the phrase "Abra Kadabra" with magic.
We hate Voldemort so much lol
What would you rank the first 4 Harry Potter movies?! Let us know 👇🏼
We can’t wait to watch the rest of the HP series! 🤩
It'll just keep getting -better and better- till the very end.
From the ones youyou’ve seen so far: Azkaban, Philosopher’s Stone, Goblet of Fire, Chamber of secrets.
So 3, 1, 4, 2.
It was Lucius who give Tom Ridle diary to Ginny Weasley so why you didn't think that he is a Death Eather?
31:33 come on,girls, you can overlook that flub by Harry. 🙂
3 > 4 > 2 > 1
37:08 Krum is 17. Hermione is 15.
Hermione's birthday is in September and the ball is in December.
Ron's is in March. Harry's is in July. Hermione is actually 10 months older than Harry.
Hermione is 14, they started at age 11
@@robertmbrown4493 yep but they started september 1st and hermiones birthday is september 19th so she was 12 for most of the first movie and the yule ball is on christmas so hermione would have turned 15 by then

For the first task, Harry uses the summoning charm, Accio to bring his broomstick called the Firebolt, which Sirius sent for him in the last movie. 😊
For anyone wondering :
- Cedric transfigured a rock into a Labrador to distract the dragon.
- Fleur lull the dragon to sleep but it woke up last minute and burn her.
- Viktor use a curse to make the dragon blind.
@@blameitondanny Cool! I always wondered how they beat their dragons. Viktor is ruthless! Blinded it. Hagrid would have been very distraught.

Peter Pettigrew is referred to as Wormtail because of his younger years in Hogwarts with Harry's father.
When his friends learned that Remus Lupin was a werewolf, the gang learned to turn into animagus and therefore they all got their nicknames.
Pettigrew as the rat guy being Wormtail🐁, Remus the werewolf being Moony🐺, Sirius the dog being Padfoot🐕🦺 and James the stag being Prongs🦌.
wormtail sounds like an insult
Also because a rat tail looks like a worm

The makers of the Maraudar's Map.
@@JFrazer4303Exactly, why do people not mention the map when explaining
They also cut all the magical creatures that appear in the maze, like the Sphinx and its riddle
This and the half blood prince are the worst adaptations. And it's not just difficult, they actively made bad choices.
@@Hwasasthroneismyface That doesn't really matter. They removed the whole barty crouch mystery by just introducing us to him at the start. Such a bad choice.
Also dobby was cut out. Another very bad descision.
@@blondymonk1535 What they chose to exclude from Half Blood and what they decided to add is really painful.
Agree completely with everyone. This is my 2nd least favorite movie. Only Half-Blood Prince is worse IMO.
@@Autobot9400Just like Harry rejected to be in Slytherin, Hermione rejected to be in ravenclaw. Its mentioned in the book, order of the phoenix.
Damn, that definitely seems like something worth putting in the film - It adds depth via context.
In the memory of the trial scene with Karkaroff when he's about to give away Barty Crouch Jr., he says, "I know for a fact this person took part in the capture and, by means of the Cruciatus Curse, torture of the Auror Frank Longbottom and his wife." It's not in this cut, but it's at about 50:20
It doesn't explicitly say they went mad, but it would explain why Neville reacts the way he does to the Cruciatus Curse.
@@JesseElena Ah, okay. Things make sense now.
But we appreciate all of this insight and does make sense now in retrospect!

yeah, i know this series could be a lot, especially for people that haven't read the books and also because it has a lot of characters and moments that sadly for time's sake couldn't been better explained. it's perfectly understandable to struggle with names and motives, etc... so, don't worry and hang in there! u u' and if you have questions moving forward i will try to answer them (obviously without spoilers, so feel safe hehe). thanks again and have a great week you two! :)
and also! in the book fred and george spend weeks maybe, figuring out how they could fool the cup into letting them put their name in, ron and harry joke about maybe joining them if they figure it out, then when harry gets chosen Ron actually thinks he came up with a way to put his name in and didnt tell Ron!
28:10 he called it, you heard him say acio fireblot, firebolt is the name of his broom which he got from Sirius at the end of the previous movie
Harry called for his broom on the first challenge with the dragon☺️
The Nimbus series is so iconic nobody ever remembers that Firebolt is a brand name too
"Did you put your name into the Goblet of Fire, Harry?" Dumbledore asked calmly.

Ah yes, the one where no one cut their hair 😂😂😂 these hairstyles were pretty book-accurate though!

Aww thanks so much for watching with us! We’re loving this whole HP universe and the Potterheads 😊❤️
7th year students at Hogwarts are typically 17.
Also the age wizards are classified as adults
“I like magical creatures“ is so Hufflepuff of you 💛
Plus her empathic/empathetic attitude (frowning) when someone's harmed, while Dee is just laughing xD (so Griffindor of her, as she knows it's not hard injury, it will recover so it's like she thinks "don't worry, laugh of the situation and go back to your adventurous journey, kiddo")
Fun fact: at 48:29 when Barty Crouch gets nervous & walks away from Moody, he gets heartbroken because he realizes it’s his son in Polyjuice potion because he notices his son’s tongue tick.

I don't know why they did that in the movie, but it's one of my least favourite changes.
Trivia:
They got the movie appearance of Voldemort almost identical to the book.
That's my boy!!"
Backstory:
Neville was traumatized by the Cruciatus Curse's usage because his parents were tortured into insanity with it.
Later in the movie he says "You know how I like to watch them walk."
In the books, Hagrid is nearly 12' tall.

"I said I'd go." Love the accent there.
Just add 10 to the movie number and you have Harry's age.
They did ron dirty in the whole franchise.
ron apologist till the day I die
This was the time Carlisle saved Edward and turned him to vampire.
If you remember in Prisoner of Azkaban, when they introduce the Marauder's Map, the quote reads, "Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs are proud to present the Marauder's Map."
Moony - Remus Lupin
Wormtail - Peter Pettigrew
Padfoot - Sirius Black
Prongs - James Potter
The third task indead was a Labyrinth with Monsters and different obstacles in it in the book. Like a Boggart, a giant spider, blast-ended skrewts (a magical dangerous beast bred by hagrid which they studied this year in his classes, and also a Sphinx that gave you a Riddle.
Worm tail is from the Marauder's map. Harry's father and his friends were the marauders 😮.
SPOILERS FOR HALF BLOOD PRINCE
At least here, they tried to focus on things that mattered but HBP is just a teen rom com that cuts 90% of Voldemort's memories, has a massive tonal problem, focuses on the romance while doing a terrible job at it and adds scenes that don't make sense (the burrow, harry flirting with the muggle girl, all the cringy lavender scenes..)
It's a matter of opinions but I personally can't sit through and enjoy that film knowing what the book is like.
@@grace19005 I think that HBP is equally irky for the reasons you mention. A little note: since they read comments, try to avoid spoilers :) Keeping book and movie separate helps me a bit.
@@veridicusmind3722 OH shoot, totally forgot they hadn't seen it yet. I pur a warning on my comment, thanks for telling me!
Every time Cedric is introduced, I always think to myself: "This is Cedric Giggety!" hehe
I saw every one of the Harry Potter movies in theaters, talk about insane!
I have seen this film like a million times...and I just noticed that Cedric did not wear a badge (Potter stinks). today years old lol
Koldovstoretz in Russia
Mahoutokoro in Japan
Uagadou in Uganda, Africa
There's also a North American school of magic called Ilvermorny
@@rainbowpegacornstudios Oh sorry I mistakenly thought I had written Ilvermony too which apparently I didn't. 🤦
@@vivek27789you did "other major magical schools mentioned are ilvermorny in USA"
Durmstrang is a Bulgarian school :)
These are amazing reactions! Excited for the next ones. ❤
Thanks for watching with us!! HP5 coming soon 😉✨
Great chemistry:) Really enjoy your reactions ❤
Aww thank you for this sweet comment! We appreciate you watching with us 🥰❤️
Wormtail is Peter's nickname from school. James harry's dad was prongs. Lupin was called Mooney. Sirius was called padfoot.
Love watching your Harry Potter journey.
Thank you! 🥰🙏🏽
rat tail and worm juice 😆
In my opinion this was my favorite book, but also the movie that did the book the most disservice. They left so much amazing story telling out.
This is all facts!! Thanks for pointing out all of those nuances. Very true that both LOR and HP franchises are just completely different 🙏🏽
The guitarist and drummer for the band at the ball were played by Jonny Greenwood and Phil Selway of Radiohead.
I`m also a proud Hufflepuff (its the best house), but i`m a Gryffindor at heart, also. Keep up the great reactions!
😊❤️
In the books, they are a lot more clear about the prize for the winner of the tournament. They just say "eternal glory" is the prize in the movie, which naaaaaah, i'm all good if that's it. But they win money, as well
Beauxbatons and Durmstrang are both coed schools...
In the bookS they explain that harrys and voldemorts wand are brothers thats why they connect and that makes the charm priori incantatem which means previous charms therefore the souls of their fathers and cedric where summoned by voldies wand since those where the souls that the wand has killed
“accio firebolt” he was summoning his broomstick, the one Sirius bought him remember 😊
"Messr's Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs are proud to present the Marauder's Map."
Moony = Werewolf = Prof. Remus Lupin
Wormtail = Rat = Peter Pettigrew
Padfoot = Dog = Sirius Black
Prongs = Deer = James Potter
4 friends who together made the Marauder's Map and also all but Moony become animagi. All done in order to slip away together and keep him company in animal form during the times he transforms at the full moon. Those names are code words they came up with, based on the bestial forms only they knew amongst each other.
HARRY! DIDYOUPUTYOURNAMEINTHEGOBLETOFFIYAH? Dumbledore said, calmly.
Agreed!! 🙏🏽
I saw 5 minutes of yall watching the first one, and knew to just wait until this one to start watching your reactions to it tbh lol
Harry goes to the Dursleys every summer. He said he just got to the Weasleys’ house when Hermione work him up.
The tests put me in Gryffindor but I am a Hufflepuff by values. Friendship, loyalty, food and hard work. In that order.
Peter pettigrew has been called worm tail since he was 15 😂 he’s one of the 4 marauders (Harry’s map) he’s always been known as wormtail haha
Harry's parents coming out to save him in the end always gets me in my feels
I am a huge Lord of The Rings fan as well and I absolutely LOVE Harry Potter just as much - I am just a huge fan of anything Sci-fi or Fantasy! Also I would definitely recommend you guys reading the books after you finish the movies. It dives so much more in depth and it's so intertwined and deep and unique.
Ahh we LOVE LOTR too 🤩 wish we can do reactions to that but we’ve just seen them so many times lol thanks for your support on the channel ❤️🙏🏽
In the books, both visiting schools are co-ed
Also in the books moaning Myrtle helps Harry find the hostages.

The film opens at Riddle Manor, with the caretaker thinking some kids have invaded the property, but it's actually Voldemort and two of his supporters.

Harry is not 'living with' the Weasleys; he's just spending the night before a predawn trip to the Quidditch World Cup.
_____________________________
As you first enter the Quidditch World Cup camping grounds, there's a juggler whipping around a huge quantity of fringed white items; those are foreshadowing events to take place in the Dark Lake by Hogwarts.

All schools of magic are coed.

Viktor Krum is 17 and finishing his final year. But, being an adult, he has already begun his professional career in the World Quidditch League.
In fact, the age restriction for the Tri Wizard Tournament is set at 17 because at 17 the participants are legal adults and can choose to do dangerous activities if they want to.

The first Unforgivable Curse (the Imperious Curse) was used by Quirrell on Harry when Harry was ordered to come down to the Mirror of Erised. If you ever questioned why Harry would obey the command, it was because he couldn't resist the power of the Imperious Curse.

Let's clarify this right away: Rita Skeeter is NOT either a reporter or a journalist; she's a gossip columnist. If the gossip and rumors don't have enough zing in it, she 'embroiders' the facts (makes stuff up). She is totally unethical.

Looking at Mad-Eye Moody, you can see how magical injuries are so much more serious than naturally-caused ones.

The tiny dragons pulled from the pouch, to determine order of play, are not baby dragons. In fact, they are not real living dragons at all, no more than the pieces on the wizard's chess board are real people. They are temporary creations of magic, conjured for the moment.

Others have addressed the minimal age difference between Krum and Hermione.
Boys.
