Your wandering jew plants look amazing. I just received a few cuttings of one kind and I'm now waiting for them to grow out. And see them be as beautiful as yours.
Fantastic video! I am a huge tradescantia fan. If you are ever interested in selling cuttings, that pure blush tradescantia tricolor minima is incredible.
Thanks Kirsten, all praise is gratefully received! 😂 You can get them from Ebay for a few pounds and they root very easily. Success is practically guaranteed. Good luck! (By the way - I've loads of Tradescantia videos for you to plough through - and another coming out this weekend on Tradescantia Pallida Purpurea so keep a look out for it.) 😀
Just watching this one. I have a whole planting bed 20 meters long and a meter wide in front of my house in Ghana, filled with Purpurea! I could give you a bucket full of cuttings for free! That’s how I got mine. A neighbor was pruning back and needed to get rid of the cuttings.
Very nice Geoff! I have a Tradescantia Sitara and really enjoy it. It's an upright grower. Maybe a trailing one is in order. They remind me of my childhood. Everyone seemed to have these lovely house plants. back then.
Mine are currently flowering. They seem to be lapping up the current bout of sunny warm weather we've having here in Surrey. I have a variety of Tradescantias. I think it is more of an addiction actually . . .
Haha yeah I think it gets like that with many genera of plants. I've actually just made an update video on my small Tradescantia collection which should be coming out in a few days so keep a look out for it. Hopefully it'll be better quality than this one you've just watched - that was months ago when I'd just started out with UA-cam. That's about 70 years in UA-cam terms!🤣
@@Grow_Up_Man55 70 years, you mean vintage quality! I had to laugh watching your video because I too have a very poor experience of Hermes . . . looking forward to your new update one.
Haha yeah - like an 80s film! I'm only filming on an iPhone 7 so quality was pretty poor initially - until I learned how to change the default settings to 4K. Although if I use the selfie camera I'm stuck with it! If/when I hit 1000 subs I'll treat myself to an upgrade!
Hi! So I have a question... I went to water my young Tradescantia today and noticed these teeny tiny little white bugs in the soil. They are less then a millimetre in length so super tiny! After some research I think that they are Springtails. Not sure though! I am worried that they will damage the plant or that they are a sign that something is wrong in the soil. Should I try and get rid of them by re-potting the plant in fresh soil or just leave them to do their thing? I thought that you were the best person to ask for help! Thanks! 😁😅
Hi - thanks for your question. There is quite a lot of evidence now that springtails are actually beneficial to plants - I even know of some growers who actively encourage them. However, Tradescantia prefer to dry out for a couple of days before re-watering, and springtails don't really like dry conditions, so by reducing your watering you'll also be reducing numbers of springtail. I certainly wouldn't worry about them - they'll stay in the pot and won't cause any harm.
@@Grow_Up_Man55 Thankyou so much for your reply! Phew, thats a relief! I was really worried that they would hurt my plant and bite us or something! 😂 I will reduce watering like you suggested but other than that I guess I will just let them do their thing! Thanks so much!!😁👌👍
I recently bought one and it was only labelled as ”Tradescantia” with care instructions. I am confused as to which variety it is as it looks very much like the Zebrina and another which you mentioned. I need to find out which it is because it's bugging me now.
Zebrina has larger leaves and is silvery whereas Red Jewel as you might expect, has more red in it. They both look similar though, and it doesn't help that younger and older leaves can be quite different. That's what makes them so interesting I guess!😁
Thanks Mick. I'm still trying to get to the bottom of the 'freeze' issue! It could be one of a million different things. It probably doesn't help that I make such lengthy videos - I just waffle too much!😂
When I started someone said try to keep them short because viewers like to watch a lot of channels in a short time , so what I’m doing is trying to build up an audience first then I’ll extend the length of the videos.
Yeah I certainly don't seem to be building much of an audience. I'll give it till Spring but then I'm afraid it's back to work! You can only spend so much time creating videos for free. 🤣

Thanks I appreciate that! I've made loads of Wandering Jew videos so I hope some of them are useful to you. Good luck growing yours...😁
Apologies for the occasional pixelation - comes from filming with an old iPhone! I've solved the problem on newer videos. :)

This is an old video (in UA-cam terms!). One man’s weed is another man’s jewel. I made that up but you get the idea! 🤣

That's a really nice plant! You wouldn't think they'd have such different characteristics. But you can tell straight away it's a Tradescantia.

You're welcome Lola - and I'm very happy to have you along. 😀
Great video. I’m going to try them. I have the same taste in plants as yourself !!!
Brilliant! It's great to meet a kindred spirit. You should see them now - they're absolutely romping away. I'll do an update video soon.
Beautiful plant
Indeed - but a weed in many parts!🤣

Ciao from Italy, in latino the pronunciation is TRADESCANZIA.

Geoff I work away from home so it’s more difficult for me and I only grow a specific genus but eventually we will both get a good following.

Very true. You say potato, I say potato - doesn't work in text!😂
