Hi Juliette! How are you? This video is in perfect timing! I had the purple Wandering Jew Plant. It grew very quickly and the leaves were very close together. I propagated it and kept making more and more plants. Two weeks ago, I bought the green version. It was a small, 2.5" plant. Right off the bat, it started to wilt and look terrible. I watered it when it was dry with hydrogen peroxide and water. It continued to decline. I just took 5 very small cuttings. Have them in water with a few drops of Superthrive. Hopefully it will come back. I have never seen the Nanock. Very beautiful plant. Enjoy your Earth Day tomorrow. Gerry HPEteacher 😎

Lovely ♡ how often do you change the water while propagating in it? When i propagate the stems, theaves eventually turn brown & limp. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Also, my entire plant was so soaked in a non draining pot.. i wanted to save her, now I realize she had root rot. Trying to save what's left of her. Pls help ♡
Hi! Thank you for watching! Change water once a week or when it looks cloudy. Some leaves turning brown while in water is very common. Hope cutting will bring new and healthy roots soon and you can have your plant back growing strong and happy! 🌿

You did that from one stem? My mom got a purple waffle as a gift in a pot and for some reason there were a couple T. Nanouk stems growing on the side. I wanted to take one for myself but I wasn’t sure if it would kill hers by taking a stem from one of hers.. THere is 2 little baby ones and 2 3 inch ones
I received 2 unrooted cuttings in potting soil this week, all I have is a North facing window but I have grow light and an aerogarden, does it need a lot of humidity like a dome or will it be fine just under the lights?
Hi Laura, How exiting! Grow light is great! You do no need a dome but a small humidifier amzn.to/3BRbbmQ near by would be very much appreciated by your Tradescantia plant. Green Luck & May your plants grow happy and healthy! 🌱
@@Mycityplants I second the new videographer. I got dizzy with all the long stretches of blurry parts, and I didn't see the details you wanted to point out.
Hi! I keep cuttings in water. Remember to change the water once a week or when it gets cloudy. Thank you for watching & May your Tradescantia plants grow happy and healthy!
@@NewUkeNewYork How long do you make your cuttings? So I found a method that works for me that you can try. Use a portable aerator and or diluted hydrogen peroxide to keep oxygen in the water. If you don't have any of those then change the water every 1-2 days. Also mix some rooting hormone in the water. Since I started doing this I have a higher success rate of them rooting with minimal stem rot.
Hi! Yes, you may support stems with sticks! Tradescantia can be finicky when it comes to watering, light and humidity levels. Make sure the plant gets a good light exposure but is away from direct sun. Allow the soil to dry between waterings and place a small humidifier amzn.to/45oho7h nearby. Green Cheers!
Hi Erika, Yes it can. I prefer to leave some dirt around the root as it gives me an option to use the Soil Meter mycityplants.com/products/soil-moisture-meter and test the moisture levels, to make sure the plant is ready to be watered. Thank you for watching 🌱

I transferred my nanouk to PON and its not happy the leaves look floppy and browning. Do you get sponsorship from Lucuza? Please declare in your vidoes if you do.
Hi Shafik, I do not get any sponsorship from Lechuza. Nanouk might be struggling due to Watering issue (over or under), inconsistent watering, light (too bright or too low). *** Allow the PON to dry before watering. Thank you for watching 🌱
@@Mycityplants its been a while and my plant is not happy in PON placed it back into soil. I don't think the transcadia is suited to PON in soil my plant was happy thriving and even gave me lovely flowers. I don't think it would flower in PON. However my snake plant is doing ok in PON.
When i place cuttings in water, the stems rot. Yet there is much talk about place stems in water until roots form. CAN YOU TELL ME HOW TO AVOID STEM ROT! (When i place in soil, they also rot, if soil is wet.) 😕
Hi Nancy, The most common reason for Tradescantia Nanouk root rot in water is not changing the water often enough. Change water at least once a week or when it looks cloudy. To avoid root rot in soil, use a very small pot so there is not too much soil around the cutting that does not dry fast enough. Green luck and Thank you for watching 🌱

I followed the advice on this video, a few days later my plant is dying. What did I do wrong ;_; Maybe its too hot? It has been 80-90 degrees this week
Hi, i got mine in my terrarium, unfortunately the hygrometer is broken and i sorayed too much water, now it have dark spots on the leaves and seems "off"..i have to cut the leaves or it's going to die anyway?
Hi Simone, As long as the roots are healthy and not rotting, the plant will grow new leaves for you. So you can simply prune back the plant and watch new stems/leaves grow :) Green Luck! 🌱
I started water-propagating some nanouk cuttings about 2 weeks ago... they have lots of roots already, ranging in length around 1-3 inches. Is it okay to pot them in soil now? Or should I wait a bit for the roots to get longer?
Hi May, Yes, you are good to go! Remember to check on potted cuttings often as they need to be watered more frequent at the beginning to help them to adapt to the soil environment after being in water. Green Luck and Thank you for watching ! 🌱
My City Plants Thanks for the advice! I potted them in a terracotta pot, kept outside in the shade. It’s summer time now... what would be an appropriate watering schedule?
The watering frequency will change and plants need to be watered more during warm seasons. The best is to check your plants twice a week to help you to understand how fast the soil is drying out. Once you understand the watering needs,, you can adjust testing the soil frequency.. Green Luck! 🌱
This is a very long wait for roots to come u just need to make small cuttings straight to the soil water well and keep the soil moist for at least 2 weeks and u have it try and u will never look back
Thank you for the tips. 🌱 Yes, propagating in soil is another way to go. I personally prefer to pot plants (that can be propagated in water) into soil when they have some developed roots. Keeping soil evenly moist (while new roots develop) can be tricky and risk of overwatering is higher in this case 😀
Please, how often to water Nanouk? I know you never water from the top to prevent water going on the leaves which mustn’t happen. So I put the pot in a bowl of water and it soaks up what it wants in the 2 hours I leave it. I do this every 2 weeks. But, I know Nanouk MUST be dry compost, so is my ‘timing’ right? Is every fortnight right? Or should it be every 3 weeks? Every 4 weeks? Hope you can help please.
Hi! The best is to test the potting mix before watering. Do not water the plant on the schedule. ***Watering frequency changes through out a year as it depends on the light, temperature and humidity levels. Green Luck! 🌱

Hi, my Nanouk has flowered so much now, it's very healthy but too many flowers there. I don't think a flowered Nanouk doesn't look good. How can I grow it with no flower?
Hi Demi, If you have plenty of room for your plant, you don't have to prune it much. Just a little bit to to keep the plant in a fuller (on top) shape. Thank you for watching 🌱
Yes, this substrate already contains some fertilizer. You will have to fertilize on a more regular basis in (semi-)hydroponics or use a slow-release product
Hi! Thank you for your comment. Yes, you may propagate Tradescantia plants in soil. I prefer the water propagation method so I can see how the roots are developing:) Green Cheers!
I love this video, but this is not practical for people on a budget. Lechuza Pon alone is expensive, not to mention the pots. I thought you would show a more practical way for these plants but thanks. Your video is beautiful.
Hi, Thank you for watching and your feedback. I think, when it comes to pruning, propagating, dividing, trimming, fertilizing, cleaning, dealing with pests, etc., it does not matter in which pots plants are growing. It just happens that all my plants are potted in Lechuza planters, most in soil BTW not PON 😀
Great info, I loved it. But you need a better camera handler. It’s hard to tell what you’re doing when it’s zoomed in since it was so blurry. And it was very shaky.
Hi! Yes, you can. Here is how: bit.ly/3EclgvY I prefer the water method for our Tradescantia plants as I love seeing new roots growing + gives me the opportunity to make sure new roots are strong and healthy! Green Cheers!

I got a stem today and propagated about 5 new plants. Hoping all will survive.

Make sure to keep water at the right level. These guys are drinkers:)

Great! 🌱
@@Mycityplants it’s already rooted :) I had it directly in soil and just in 6 days .. yay.. thanks for the water tip

Hi Laura,
How exiting!
Grow light is great!
You do no need a dome but a small humidifier amzn.to/3BRbbmQ near by would be very much appreciated by your Tradescantia plant.

How often should I change the water in the propagation?
Hi Isabel,
Once - twice a week or when water starts looking cloudy.

Hi Melissa,
Thank you for watching 🌱
I use Lechuza pots for all my plants.

Did you say the propagated ones take a few months to grow new roots? Where do you keep them?
Hi! I keep cuttings in water. Remember to change the water once a week or when it gets cloudy.
Thank you for watching & May your Tradescantia plants grow happy and healthy!
Greetings, how do you prevent the cutting from rotting in water? I did a few cuttings and some stems would rot and others will root. Thanks 🙏
Hi! Change water once a week. Pot cuttings when the roots are 1"-3" long.
Thank you for watching 🌱
I have the same problem - in fact, all of mine have rotted so far. I guess I’ll keep trying.
Thank you for sharing 🌱
Make sure not to get the leaves wet when watering. Seems like mine wants to shrivel up and die when I do that

My tradescantia nanouk stems look very weak...like they are falling of what to do ??will they grow like your plant or I need a moss stick for it??
I looked online and saw that the Lechuza-pon is very expensive. Does anyone know of any cheaper brands I could use?
When propagating cuttings, do you have to change out the water every so often or just leave it in the same water for a few months until roots grow?
change the water ❤
Hi Alma,
Yes, change the water once every 7-14 days or when you see it's getting cloudy or greenish.
Thank you for watching 🌱
Hi Lin,
Thank you for your helpful answer 🌱
Hello, can this be planted directly into Pon with dirt still attached to its roots ? I’ve been having trouble removing the dirt from its roots.
Hi Erika,
Yes it can.

Hi Shafik,
I do not get any sponsorship from Lechuza.
In my experience with tradescantia the tips of leaves turn yellow or crispy because of overwatering.
Hi! Yes, one of the reasons. Thank you for sharing and for watching 🌱
When i place cuttings in water, the stems rot. Yet there is much talk about place stems in water until roots form. CAN YOU TELL ME HOW TO AVOID STEM ROT! (When i place in soil, they also rot, if soil is wet.) 😕
Hi Nancy,
The most common reason for Tradescantia Nanouk root rot in water is not changing the water often enough.

Hi Luke,
Thank you for watching 🌱
If the cutting are dying, may be you need to change the water more often since it is very hot there.

Hi, i got mine in my terrarium, unfortunately the hygrometer is broken and i sorayed too much water, now it have dark spots on the leaves and seems "off"..i have to cut the leaves or it's going to die anyway?
Hi Simone,
As long as the roots are healthy and not rotting, the plant will grow new leaves for you.
So you can simply prune back the plant and watch new stems/leaves grow :)

Hi! Deltini planter www.lechuza.us/promo/deltini-shiny-taupe/14904.html
I started water-propagating some nanouk cuttings about 2 weeks ago... they have lots of roots already, ranging in length around 1-3 inches. Is it okay to pot them in soil now? Or should I wait a bit for the roots to get longer?
Hi May,
Yes, you are good to go!
Yes, propagating in soil is another way to go.
I personally prefer to pot plants (that can be propagated in water) into soil when they have some developed roots.
Keeping soil evenly moist (while new roots develop) can be tricky and risk of overwatering is higher in this case 😀
Have you propagated Tradescantia Nanouk plant before? Share your best tips in the comments on how to care for propagated stems properly 🌱🙏
Do you have to replace the water the stems are in at all?
Hi! I refresh the water once every 10-14 days, Thank you for watching 🌱

Hi Ethan,
A flowering plant is a happy plant! If you are not a big fan of flowers, get a plant type that does not flower 😀 🌱
@@Mycityplants I like flowers but this has too much - sorry for not able to show you - typically Nanouk is beautiful if it has no flower right?
My plant has not flowered yet and it still looks beautiful. You can always cut the blooms off if it is too much for you 😀
My plant is so huge bigger than yours but I feel bad pruning it 😫
Hi Demi,
If you have plenty of room for your plant, you don't have to prune it much. Just a little bit to to keep the plant in a fuller (on top) shape.

Yes, this substrate already contains some fertilizer. You will have to fertilize on a more regular basis in (semi-)hydroponics or use a slow-release product

I love this video, but this is not practical for people on a budget. Lechuza Pon alone is expensive, not to mention the pots. I thought you would show a more practical way for these plants but thanks. Your video is beautiful.
Hi,
Thank you for watching and your feedback.
I think, when it comes to pruning, propagating, dividing, trimming, fertilizing, cleaning, dealing with pests, etc., it does not matter in which pots plants are growing.
It just happens that all my plants are potted in Lechuza planters, most in soil BTW not PON 😀
