I own a Insta360 Go 3, and one difference I noticed is storage. Go 3 memory storage is strictly internal, whereas for the Ace Pro, you can insert a micro SD card in it. Some may say it's not a huge deal or a big difference, but it is to me. Transferring files from my Go 3 to my external hard drive has been a pain at times. Sometimes it'll transfer, sometimes it won't. Glad to see the folks at Insta360 created an action camera where you can insert a SD card into it. Can't wait to see your action camera comparison. Action camera tech has come a long way.
I had Go 3 but sold it. I found it too frustrating to flip that screen up and down all the time. Front screen with live preview is much more convenient in daily use.
I saw you had a Rode wireless attached in one of the shots. I assume that wireless mics can be used? Looks like an excellent camera for b-roll. Especially the low light capabilities makes it usefull up here in the north.
This new action camera has some nice features. I liked the 2x LOS zoom feature in particular, and the night mode looks good, but I don't shoot much at night so this really isn't a priority for me. Great review, and I'm looking forward to your continued testing of this interesting new camera. Thanks for sharing.
Unanswered questions by reviewers so far (231121): Does it have the 30 minute video limit/gap that other Insta360 cameras have? Does it use/share the same app as the X3 & RS One 1-inch? Does the flip screen lock down? So at 55mph it will not rip it off. No reviewer has said so yet but you all show the flip screen that "appears"" to have latch buttons (surprised this is not noted in reviews). Can the Ace Pro run/operate off of USB while charging? Micro SD card? And maximum size? Microphones? Removable lens?
It can,t beat P3 but p3 is no action cam. p3 is no turn on and forget cam. But it's way more cableble as a semi pro photographer. It's like, you can't make drone shots, by throwing a camera. It's you, what do you shoot. It's apples and oranges, fruits but not same. I love the P3 but i have no use for it. Fishing shooting. I'm the main character in every video, so i can't fidle with cams wile trying to catch fish, and look out if friends do. Just need to run, and hope for the best. If i was shooting, family, dogs, so on, had the cam in hand. p3 is the way to go
Any chance you could check the LRV files and let us know the resolution and frame rate? Most importantly, does the LRV frame rate match the frame rate of the main video file? On previous insta360 cameras the LRV files have a lower frame rate (14.98fps) which makes them useless for using as proxy files for editing. Gopro & DJI cameras use a matching frame rate for their LRV files, so they can be used as proxies for editing. To check the frame rate & resolution you just need to rename the LRV file from .lrv to .mp4 and then it will work like a normal video file. Thanks in advance!
From all the early reviews I watched today, it seems like you guys received a different version compared to the one Insta360 is promoting commercially. On their website, they show the 8k capabilities, and none of you mentioned it, which is quite surprising!
3 pre-reviews I have seen today and all of them mentioned 8k, although one of the reviewer said it's not using 8k because "who does in 2023". In this video, time 3:37 reviewer said clearly 8k is supported but not with the beta sw the review units were shipped.

So, two questions: 1) Can you attach an external mic and if so, is an adapter required? 2) How are the built in mics? Is there one or two? If two, can you make it where only the rear mic is active? Will standard mount of Ace Pro foot be compatible with GoPro accessories? They do not make good bundles for this product (like DJI Adventure Combo) so i wonder where do i get water floating stick or selfie stick for this to not overpay.

So, insta is back in the actioncam marked. So now we have 3 providers. Nice. Did like that low light. Gopro is so bad. I have oa 3 and i do need good night vision. But do it have timecode ? Thats my goal in future cams.
I took a low picture of a house with Xmas lights the insta 360 ace pro 36mp and it all came out blurry why could you do a UA-cam test on this please or is it just camera shake in low light i mean darkness

Does the Ace Pro have the 11 to 14 second gap between files on long duration video? I find this a serious drawback for capturing long motorcycle rides. Murphy's Law says that the gap will occur when something exciting happens.
The spec sheet on the Insta 360 website, appears to show that the Ace has HDR at 24fps. HDR video is not shown for the Ace Pro. The Ace has 6k max resolution and the Pro 8k.
Yes, they have their own app. It’s just simply called Insta360. It’s actually more feature packed than the GoPro app. You can do a lot more with it. It’s quite good.
Ok I need an action cam. What should I get? Latest go pro, latest dji Osmo action 4 or this?. I wanted something waterproof, so the pocket 3 is out. Too bad that was my favourite. Thank you 🙏
There is an allegation going round that the reviewers who received the pre-production versions had a removable lens cover but given explicit instructions not to mention it, perhaps this is why you will find so many reviews of this camera conveniently avoids the fact that the production versions have a fixed lens cover. I have to agree with others that this is a big issue on an action camera, once it is scratched it stays that way…
Great video! Quick question..can the freeframe mode be used in low light as well with same results as pure video? I would like to have the freeframe possibilities in post but with the low light quality that is seen when using pure video....hope you understand my question? Also is horizon lock available in pure video?
It's always replaceable, just like you can replace the lens glass on a Hero 8 now. There are already 3rd party lens covers becoming available that include a wrench to break the lens cover glue free. Do you think they could re-engineer the camera body to properly do a non removable lens so fast?
Wow...quite a surprise from Insta360! The fold out screen and free-frame mode look the most interesting features to me. Low light quality was also amazing.
You didn't say anything about mic quality and durability. The AI chip could be great in reducing wind-noise and pop up the voice, like our phones do and GoPro don't. ???

Thanks for another great review. It seems this new Insta360 Ace Pro camera suffers the same wide Field of View FOV like the DJI Action4. Many will appreciate this, especially Vloggers but others who film landscapes and scenery with foreground subjects will find everything in frame will flatten and appear distant. Not what your eyes see. It can really make action CAM footage look like it was shot on an action camera which takes away the quality of the picture. Other than that this camera looks great
You need to pay attention to the sound... in every video you are quiet... That is not the problem because we can raise the volume up. But the problem is when you insert some sample footage with sound and It is much more louder than you speaking. And when the commercial pops its just exploding because you are too quiet.

Few people are viewing stuff on a big screen these days, millions are on their smartphone’s so 4k is good enough even on an ipad and laptop

Yes, it records audio as well. The audio during the slow motion video was right off the camera.

Similar to a GoPro you just pull it out and gently pull on it and it’ll come right off

10 bit? Insta should bring out a wireless lav and it would be almost perfect.
AFAIK it has no 10 bit… and HDR is only at 30 fps
