    This is my Christian testimony as well as my workings with the Norse gods. I hope you enjoy the tale I have sung.
    Asatru. Hail to the gods!
    The song used is called "Helvegen" by the group Wardruna. I claim no ownership of their music.

    This video is so moving. I had very similar things happen to me throughout my life. I grew up Southern Baptist in Louisiana. My dad, who was a duke of our region's Baptist body, saw me carving those runes into trees and writing them on paper and he was so horrified because he knew what they were. He knew that I had a connection to our ancestry and our heathen Scandinavian gods that he never even knew about. He ended up grounding me and told me that if he ever caught me writing those runes again that he would whoop the demonicness from within my body. I did as I was told until I nearly forgot these events. I went through some tough times recently and was questioning Christianity because I was reading over what had happened in the crusades and how the takeover of Christianity was everything but peaceful. I then caught a new feeling of connection to the Norse gods because I stumbled upon the Poetic Edda. I have never felt this truly close to my surroundings or myself. It is a great feeling, but it was hard to reach this point. I had to lose my father in a motorcycle accident, get dumped by my girlfriend, and have my name drug through this terrible muck people call drama. I picked myself up and held my head high.

    Things like this make me realise how weird my upbringing was. I was raised Christian (still am) but Christianity was never presented as something at odds with the old ways. Our faith was intertwined with nature and respect for family (Clan) history. A lot of family ties to the Iona community etc. So much Celtic tradition is Christian and people don't realise because of the iconography used- a lot of animals and abstract patterns don't fit with the mainstream Roman Catholic Christian symbolism. I think the key to spiritual fulfillment is feeling grounded and knowing what your roots are, so you can know your own place in the world and not feel lost. We have lost so much of our histories in the last couple of centuries. So much science and industry, but we forgot our cultures and languages. We didn't realise what we were allowing to slip away. Identity is everything, and that includes past identities.

Loki was made evil by Snorri to have Christian link in norse mythology. Eddas wrote by Snorri a born Christian to help convert Icelandic people into the new Abrahamic religion. Jesus might have existed but as a simple man, all that extra bit about his miracles is all hogwash. He was made into a god only for political reasons. Only one who is evil, selfish and greedy but wise is Óðinn not Loki if you know the stories.

    I have a very similar story. I was born and raised Christian. Taught to believe that everything that was not of Christianity, was evil. It was only until last year, when I woke up and started questioning my beliefs. A few months later I built up the courage to stand up to the religion and walk away from it. Once you walk away from it, you feel so much more at peace. But once you take up a new religion or practice that suits you. You feel even more at peace. Mine was Norse Paganism. The more you look into this practice the more you won’t wanna stop.

    I would like to say, nearly every single piece of this video resonates deeply with me. I grew up in a Mormon church, and loved Jesus with my whole heart. I was sure I was going on a mission, and I did. My mission sent me to Denmark, and found a small group of pagans who identified as Asatru. Being a curious sort, I decided to look into Norse myths, and when I did, my heart desired truth. More so than I ever did in the past. I decided to abandon my mission, and learn with them. For the remainder of what would have been my mission, I learned of why we worship the gods and our ancestors. And this truth has clung to my mind ever since.
    I am not afraid of the future. I do not fear death. I know in my heart and soul, that I will find my place among the gods when my time comes. And for my family, they are allowed to believe what they believe. They are allowed to worry for my soul. And if I sat down with them and explained by belief, I wish that it would comfort their minds. And I will leave with this, I know that what The Heathen Voice says is true. And if you don't believe it, then please respect those who do believe, as we do to you.

I ended up finding out that my ancestors were Swedish and that I even had Viking ancestors from that area. about 2 years ago I started really getting into Swedish culture and learning about my ancestors. I started learning about the Norse gods. I prayed to Odin and asked for a sign that he was there and he answered me. I feel like the gods were calling me. They were calling me back to the old ways. Our government has turned on it's own people and are taking better care of the invaders then us Swedes. This due to the lack of guts and active culture. When I was a child, I loved the Christian God but I could feel peoples secrets when I entered churches. It made me physically sick. So I found God in the woods, in trees, in water, and in stones. I would burn a stick and write symbols on the rocks. At night I would stare at the stars and talked to God as if he were the moon. When i grew older people began to tell me that was wrong to do so I kept it to myself. After a terrible marriage and praying for years that God would help, they're was no change. I realized I could have walked away at any time but I stayed because the Bible and Christians told me to. Ive been on my journey for around 2 years now but its really ramped up in the past 3 months. I was raised in a Christian family, but I never felt the presence of God, or a real connection to the religion of my parents. When I left home for my studies at the age of 18, I started to take an interest in paganism as a whole, and Norse mythology in particular (being interested in the Nordic countries ever since I was 13). The next step for me was historical reenactment, which I took up last year. And through the study of Viking age history, I'm getting a stronger interest in the religion. I've never been a religious person, but the spirituality speaks to me somehow.
    It's nice to see someone had a similar path. Thank you for sharing your testimony :)

  • @TheaterRaven

    I can relate so much. Grew up Christian (Episcopalian) and my family raised me to think for myself, to question authority of any kind, religious or secular, and they taught me that "to be a Christian" meant to follow Jesus' example of living with kindness and compassion for everyone. So I was the "old soul hippie" kid in my church. I always kept the Sunday school teachers and Bible study leaders on edge because I innately saw through a lot of the dogmatic politics of the religion. Even when I'd bring up, "Well, that doesn't seem very Jesus-like," they would gloss over the inconsistencies. I still have a great respect and love for Yeshua (Jesus) and his philosophies, but yeah, the fundamentalist Christians can keep their dogma and stuff.
    I, too, went to Sweden, in the summer of 2013 as a study abroad college student. I loved it. One of the reasons I chose to go to Sweden is because my maternal great-great grandfather was Swedish and I'd grown up on stories of how he arrived in the States and I wanted to see where he came from. I felt an immediate connection to the land, the people, and the culture while I was there. I actually had a reverse culture shock when I got back home to California.
    Long story short, going to Sweden was the start of my inner Pagan stirring. I'm more eclectic in my path (it just seems fitting to me, being American and having different nationalities in my background), but I do feel a draw to some of the Norse gods. I came out of the broom closet to myself and my family as a Christo-Pagan this past March (thankfully, they accepted me, as I'd hoped).
    Sorry for the long post, but your video really touched me and I wanted to respond properly. I'm glad you found a path that works for you. Blessed be.

Everything you said about your past I done as well. Making up words, symbols, languages. I even drew pictures of various people and named them these weird long names. Like I said everything you pointed out in your past I have done as well. I don't like to speak on my beliefs when it comes to God(s). But I relate and I understand each word you didn't speak. I also teared up when I first watched this video... and a few other times too. The Heathen Voice , your awakening reminded me of my own. I used to be an atheist. I was also raised baptist. I spent years feeling... empty. I knew in my heart that there are other forces at work. Certain things happened in my life, and I ended up finding my roots. My heritage. After trying to follow their moral code, their beliefs, and their faith, I no longer feel stranded. Instead I feel whole, and once again, I'm able to follow my path. Hel awaits... It's the path that determines everything. Hails brother!

    I respect Asatru so much.
    I’m Dutch, my ancestors honored to Germanic gods.
    I’m so happy that so many people are waking up. Its literally hard wired in our DNA.
    Oddly enough, it’s the Greek gods that called on me, specifically Aphrodite.
    But the old gods are coming back, whether they’re Norse, or Greek, they’re brothers.
    Side by side they were the true history of Europe.

    Heill
    This is a very good video of which, I personally somewhat can relate to. I was baptized in a protestant Christian church as a child, I wasn't given a choice, I had no chance to choose a path for myself to follow until the day I realized the manipulation. And I cannot blame my parents for this both because I love them dearly and because it's not their fault. Nowadays, I consider myself pagan and I tend to follow the heathen way as much as I can. I embrace and try to show as much loyalty to my mighty gods and goddesses as I only can. I feel so connected with nature and I get a feeling that I cannot describe by words.
    Needless to say, I find this video very helpful and I have great respect for you that you choose to come forth with this. What the Christians did to our ancestors cannot be forgiven nor forgotten.
    HailaR WodanaR!

    I just found your video and like you were I am torn. I go to church, but have always been a person in nature as a kid. Hunting, fishing, or exploring in the woods. I joined the military to learn and be stronger. I lived in the cities for years, but felt trapped there. I now for the last 7 years own a 17 acre farm and have livestock. Most of the time when I am at home it is outside in nature or sitting on my front porch staring at the mountains. My wife doesn't understand why I am outside so much. It can be freezing cold and I am outside. During this past Christmas I felt the longing in my spirit to learn more about Yule and other traditions. Started watching videos and readling. Like you said I have prayed to Jesus and never heard a world, but in the woods it like they are whispering to me in the wind or the crackling of a fire at night. I have in the last few years, became deeply concerned with what is going on in Europe with the Muslim invasion and the people I come from. Like you don't know my family history, or where I exactly come from, but I want to do the Ancestry DNA to see where my blood comes from orginally. Now, the big issue for me is wife and kids that are Christian. I know this would destroy my family, especially my wife. It like being lost and not knowing which way to head. Any advice would be welcomed!

    I was also raised as a Christian. I went to Sunday school when I was very young. And for the most part, I had no qualms with it. I believed that Jesus was my Lord and all that but as I got older I started to question some of the subtle phrases that I heard. I started to question why people said things like "God-fearing." I never understood why I must fear a person who I also loved. Then later along I started to question other things such as why God claimed to be a loving father figure even though he had done horrible things. At this point, I had started to show a sort of disdain towards Christianity and as my mind started to wander, I had discovered that I actually didn't know where I belong. So, for a while, I was just telling myself "I can interpret Christianity how I want it." But as I started reading more and more about the history of Europe and how the followers of the Cross had committed horrible acts in the name of God I just couldn't forgive such things. So I started to look for my true God, or in this case, Gods. I had started reading about the mythology of the Northern Europeans and I had made a connection with the ancient lore and values. I found myself enthralled by the ideas of honor, wisdom, and strength. But even though I had renounced the Christian god I still felt this sense of guilt. Almost like I was betraying someone. And then there was a day, a day that made me realize that my own family was a little less tolerant that I had previously thought. My mother had started talking about religion and I had hinted at the fact that, and I quote "If I wasn't a Christian, I'd rather be a Pagan" and she turned to me and said with a practically hateful tone "Don't say that! We believe in God in this house!" And with that information, I had reverted back to saying that I was a Christian. Though a little ways after that, I had started to read about the Norse gods again and that reignited my prior belief in them. And my beliefs were set in stone about 8 or 9 months after that. My dog, Zeus, had fallen ill. He was very weak and could barely walk. He had stopped eating, going outside, and was just this empty little fluffball, just staring at the wall. When we had to put him down we were beside ourselves with grief. He had been with us for 10 whole years and just like that he was gone. I was feeling a bit sorrowful and I thought it was a good idea at the time so I went to my altar and I called on Odin. I asked him to lead my poor dog into the afterlife and to give me a sign that he made it. After I had cast the spell I just felt sad. I didn't know how to interpret sign from the gods. But then when we got his ashes back about a week later I read the tin and it said: "Until we meet again on the rainbow bridge." I looked at the inscription and I was overcome with joy. The Rainbow Bridge is a direct reference to the Bifrost bridge that connects Asgard to the nine realms. I went down to my altar and thanked Odin and to this day I am still in his debt. And from that moment onward My faith in the northern gods has been cemented!
    Hail to the old gods!

    This is probably the closest description for my life I have ever come across. How I finally heard call of the Gods, realizing they had been doing so my entire life to return to home and my ancestral roots. How I answered their call and parted ways with a belief that never felt right to me for an older path all but lost as stamped out by the very religion I followed. How the burden i had placed on myself from being Christian was lifted the first time I offered the Gods some homemade mead and bread then just sat under an Oak tree and introduced myself to them. Thank you brother, you are not alone out there. May Odin grant you wisdom and Thor strength on your journeys.

    I see a lot of comments here of people asking if their ancestry is right to be Ásatrú. But the solution is VERY simple; put up an altar with the main Norse gods and try to connect with them. Make a blót and ask them questions and wishes. Wait for signs and messages, thoughts that aren't from yourself, like the voice of consciousness. Nobody better than the gods themselves to tell you if they accept you as a devotee.

    • @1NaturalMystik1
      @1NaturalMystik1 9 років тому +12

      agormanvideos sounds to me your trying to pray to the gods like a Monotheist, the Germans and Celts did not pray to their gods, they sacrificed to them and they saw the gods manifest themselves in nature.

    • @brujo_millonario
      @brujo_millonario 9 років тому +4

      Roamy Bard You're wrong, I don't know where did you get that idea. (!?) They did pray to the gods and even had a special position to pray; standing with open arms which is reflected in the rune Algiz/Elhaz.

    • @1NaturalMystik1
      @1NaturalMystik1 9 років тому +4

      agormanvideos
      actually it was with both arms shoulder level held outwards bent at the elbow and touching the head (it is depicted in both German and Celtic pottery in reference to the sun and labyrinth, to me it seems more Druidic than German but its referenced in both), it had to do with the sacrifice of the bull using the mjolnir. it wasnt a posture of prayer it was a posture of trance.
      they did not pray to their gods because they were Pantheists, they sacrificed to their god(s) and rode the soul of the sacrificed animal through ecstatic trance which was the whole damn reason for a blot in the first place.

    • @1NaturalMystik1
      @1NaturalMystik1 9 років тому +3

      agormanvideos actually agorman you are correct on the posture, but not its intent. praying is a submissive act, the Celts and Germans werent submissive to their gods. what they did, as i stated earlier was sacrifice and use that animals soul to either ride or send their messages to the gods through ecstatic trance.

    • @brujo_millonario
      @brujo_millonario 9 років тому +9

      Roamy Bard Well I can't sacrifice a bull nowadays. I offer them such things as red wine, mead, bread, candles and incense and I see the gods as my ancestors. I believe I communicate with them. I talk or think to them and they send me thoughts, inspiration, feelings and signs (like finding names of Norse gods in unexpected places). Unfortunately I can't still see them or hear them unless I'm in a trance. The historical aspects of the religion are to be respected of course, but what I really care about is relating to superior beings to improve my life, within a culture I'm fond of (I did the same with Hindu gods for a few months, but I don't like Indian cultures). That's the most important achievement to accomplish, not playing the Viking.

But I do know that the only music that I can eat, sleep, train, and breathe to 24/7 is Norse style music. It ignites this feeling in me that I can’t exactly understand, but it’s powerful. Same here. I grew up in a Christian household. But around the age of 13 I started to be an Atheist. I remained like that for a while,until one day. I just got this feeling inside. A connection to my ancestors. I looked up "Norse religion" wondering what they practiced. I found something that really just made me feel that I had done something that just felt... right. I later realized that it had been all around me. My girlfriend was Wiccan and practiced spells with none other than the old Norse runes. My neighbor had the Hagalaz rune on her wall, and my dad had named our dog Odin for an unknown reason. I am know a Theodist and wish to die in battle so that I may fight honourably alongside my gods at Ragnarok.

    I became disenchanted with Christianity in the same way, for the same reasons. This really speaks to me. My family is from Norway and central Germany (Thüringen) and I've been living in Germany for 14 years. I fell out of Christianity at about age 16 but have always felt that there was something out there for me. I always felt a calling. I found it in Ásatrú about 2 years ago and have had, what feels to me, a happier, more complete life. The doubt and worry of Christianity, the empty loneliness of atheism, are no longer of concern for me. I feel spiritually fulfilled and complete.

    I was raised a christian and for almost 5 yrs now I've been Asatru. When you were talking about your experience with the runes I had sort of the same experience as a kid but not with runes. I remember when I used to pray to god I used to give offerings and strongly felt that made more sense. When I first read about Asatru I just sat there and literally yelled "That's me!" I was excited because at the time I found Asatru I had been going through a search to express myself spiritually.
    And yes the gods are soo loud and clear.

      Interesting in that you have a goddess's name. The gods have many names and Thea is usually known as Thrud, Thor's daughter, goddess of storms, strength, and beauty. Names and spelling depended on which Germanic language, tribe, and/or nation you were in.

    Thank you for this fantastic video. I also grew up in a Christian family (even have an uncle and cousin who are pastors) but have always felt awkward about it. I've never felt at peace and I've always been fascinated by other religions. There have been several odd things that have led me down this particular path but they've ended in me looking into Asatru lately. I already feel at peace. Anyway, what literature would your recommend for someone just beginning to dip their toes into Asatru?

    I grew up in the American South, surrounded by Baptists, though my own family was mostly nonreligious. Despite this, the old gods have always spoken to me, since my earliest memories, and it is only recently that I've begun to listen. Since I have, I've had this sense of rightness, and I know I chose well.

    13:15 moved me to tears.....I am an Indian and unfortunately i too don't know my ancestors though i am Hindu . The point about connecting to your origins through the mythologies of the people who've walked before you, is something that takes a very deep realization to grasp . Its something only a few a capable of arriving at , and of those few , even few go through the experiences that point them to this path of redeeming themselves (if that phrase can applied).
    To articulate this is critical in today's world and you've done it.

      Indra, Zeus, Jupiter, Thor, etc come from the same source and are from cousin religions. Abrahamic religions are unrelated to natural religions. Dharmic is natural. Abrahamic religions are un-natural and initially require coercion. Threats of death, damnation, starvation, are modus operandi for Yahweh. The joy is you won't get roasted or beheaded. Join the borg or die. No wonder the churches are empty when there is no sword to force you.

    What a beautiful and moving testimony.
    You weren't kidding when you said they speak thousands of times louder than the Christian god.
    I have never felt such a powerful manifestation of the presence of a god or goddess before in a wakeful state.
    This was when I was visited by Odin and he introduced me to the rest of his pantheon.
    I could feel and see in my mind's eye all of them around my bed in my room!!! It was amazing!!
    Also the ongoing communication with Odin instructing me was very strong with synchronicities happening a lot as well.

    glad you made this video. I always known I was different to other children because I would ask my ancestors for guidance even tho my family are Christian. I prayed to Jesus and every time I did something bad would happen to me. so at the age of 16 I asked my ancestors for guidance.i disciplined myself to become spiritual and connect to the God's of my ancestors. it's very powerful . I love being a warrior like my ancestors. I don't go around fighting but just train practice and give thanks to woden for me as a Anglo saxon but it's the same God as the Vikings.

    I was raised catholic, but not very devoted. My family didn't really profess their faith, but we were labeled as catholic. Over the years I began to feel abandoned by God. I was in middle school when I became atheist because I didn't believe what my parents told me, I questioned the Catholic Church. Then I learned of the Christian atrocities described in the video. When I started high school I labeled myself as a buddhist to enlighten myself. That faded with my confirmation when I was 14 and I became catholic again. But I remembered what my church had done throughout history. I started to search for a religion that agreed with my beliefs. Now I am an asatruar and only 15. Don't let your parents tell you what to believe; believe in what agrees with your morals and your conscience. The vikings weren't bloodthirsty pagans. That is a stereotype to further the church's popularity. There is a reason Christianity is the most popular religion, because it was forced on people who were forced to give up their own faith.

    • @tessfarren8661
      @tessfarren8661 9 років тому

      Dalton Campbell almost every single religion has a history of being forced upon others. It's not just Christianity. Only exception i can think of is wicca, because it is a modern day religion and law prohibits people from having religion forced upon

    • @daltoncampbell1142
      @daltoncampbell1142 9 років тому

      The Wiccans didn't have a religion forced on them, they were just burned at the stake for being Wiccan

    • @daltoncampbell1142
      @daltoncampbell1142 9 років тому +2

      Wait are you saying that almost every religion has had another religion forced on them or they have forced their religion on someone else? If it is the second one I can think of a few religious tolerant empire such as the Mongols or the Norse

    • @tessfarren8661
      @tessfarren8661 9 років тому

      Dalton Campbell I'm saying that a large majority of religions were forced upon people because of some empire or kingdom ore something. My point is that it isn't the religion thats violent, its emperors and kings. There have also been instances of atheism being forced, like Stalin's genocide

    • @daltoncampbell1142
      @daltoncampbell1142 9 років тому +2

      That is true, but Christianity is usually never mentioned. Have you seen A.D. Or the Bible on television. They show what happens to Jesus, but they don't show what his followers do after christianity is legalized. I have not seen any mention of Christian atrocities in textbooks or on television and now the Catholic Church just acts like it never happened. They just swept it under the rug and hoped people would forget about it

    But when I pray (i don't even know if i'm doing it right) i feel something like a deep power rising from within myself. Is that what the gods response is?
    I'm rather knew to this, and i still have to learn alot, but i know iin my heart, that this is my religion.

    I love how you explained your journey and I have so much respect for that. The way how you explained your household all the way to your adulthood is exactly the same for how I was raised and how I found myself. Until I matured and became a man, I then realized that Christianity was not for me but the old Norse gods were very much my calling. I thought I was alone by the age of 14 all the way to 18 until I found out there was a Norse church that just opened and my heart felt filled with excitement. Hearing your video has definitely made me want to find out my ancestors past and want to learn more about heathenism. Thank you so much for posting this video and I praise you brother.

      And Odin is said to have hung himself from Yggdrisil and his worshipers apparently followed suit
      by strangling victims and casting them into bogs or having slave-girls 'willingly' follow their
      deceased chieftains into the afterlife by being gang-raped & murdered at the site of a ship burial
      (as witnessed & recorded by Ibn Fadlan).
